Comments:ECO 1305 - When I decided to attend Baylor, I was looking for professors just like Dr. Buckles. He integrates academic excellence and Christian commitment in his classroom. As an individual he is an extraordinarily strong Christian man who is open about his faith in the best way possible. Before exams, Dr. Buckles takes time to pray over the students in his class. He also makes himself available to students outside the classroom. I have benefited strongly from the methods Dr. Buckles uses in the classroom, and you will too if you are lucky enough to take him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Micro 2307 - What I liked about Buckles is that he is very open about his views (which are very conservative btw). However, coming from a liberal educational background I found this to be very interesting and thought stimulating. He always makes an effort to engage the class in some sort of debate or another which I find to be a refreshing change of pace as economics to me is really dry. Makes an effort to help students if you show up to office hours and light workload compared to other econ classes.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:ECON1305 - I think Professor Buckles is very passionate about the field of economics. He is incredibly knowledgeable on everything he discusses. He is helpful when asked questions regarding the material before/after class and during office hours. He brings in political topics but that is what makes the class interesting in my opinion. If it was not for this class, I would not know much about current events. I think it is important to know that he is conservative, but never grades anyone based off of their opinions and beliefs. Homework is assigned but not graded. It is useful to do the homework to prepare for quizzes. Overall, I think class is riveting when we have different opinions discussed in class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Micro - I liked Professor Buckles, he is a nice christian guy and prays for his class before tests, which was cool. The tests were average difficulty, but he does curve them. He commutes from Dallas everyday so he is not available very often, but he is a good professor overall and i would recommend him. One thing I will say is that he is extremely conservative and openly speaks about controversial topics that may make some uncomfortable. For me, I didn't mind because I agreed with his thoughts, however some in my class were openly offended, just a heads up.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:ECO 2307 - Dr. Buckles rocks! He is extremely intelligent and presents material in a way that is easy to understand. He is very respectful toward his students, and not only wants us to understand the material, but also think about how it relates to Christianity and our personal beliefs. Dr. Buckles is not afraid to share his opinion on some more controversial topics, but he always opens up the floor for discussion and listens to students\' perspectives and experiences. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to his lectures. The class itself is really not bad. As long as you study the notes and do the homework (there is not too much homework), then you should be just fine! Dr. Buckles gives a few quizzes based on the homework, as well as 2 multiple choice tests, and a final.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ECO 2307 - Professor Buckles is a great professor!! He always explained things very well and he was always open to discussion, no matter the topic. I didn't always agree with what he had to say, but the discussions were interesting. He was open to hearing everyone's opinion and he encouraged us to ask questions. He is always willing to help during office hours and you can go over your old tests and quizzes. We had homework questions on each chapter and he gave us a few really short quizzes to make sure we did the homework. We also had 2 multiple choice exams plus the final. As long as you pay attention in class, study the notes, and do the homework, you will be fine. I really enjoyed having him as a professor and I recommend that you take him!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2306 - Take Buckles for micro !!! He is passionate about economics, tells you what to star for the tests, and grades on the curve. There were only 4 quizzes straight from the homework so make sure you do the homework even though it isn't graded! There were three tests including the final. If you pay attention in class, take good notes, and do the homework, you'll be fine!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:ECO 2306 - Wonderful class! Super easy to ace. You can tell he really loves what he lectures about. The first day of class, he announced that his classroom wasn't a "safe space" and denounced secular education and non-binary inclusion. While that was a bad first impression to me as someone who is relatively liberal, I learned throughout the course that he is a very caring professor that only curves your grade up, pretty much always gives 100% on quizzes, and sometimes goes on personal rants. We took a total of 4 quizzes, all straight from the homework. He prays for us before each exam which is very sweet. Lectures prepare you very well for the exams, which are 50 MCQs. He will tell you to star certain things as essential to remember and goes over everything he thinks you should know the class before the exam. Take his class!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ECO 2306 - Dr. Buckles has been by far my favorite teacher here at Baylor. He is a very good teacher who teaches in a way that helps students take good notes. His class is setup where at the end of the semester there is 4 total grades. There are two midterms, a final exam and the average quiz grades. Dr. Buckles was always available during his office hours and it really helped me personally to go in and talk to him because he answered my questions and made sure I was understanding his class material. To be successful in his class, make sure you go to every class and write down every single note that he puts on the board. In the end, if you put in the work and study you should have no problem getting an A in his class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306 - Professor Buckles is a phenomenal teacher. He is obviously very passionate about Economics. He teaches right from the book, so if you miss a day all you have to do is read. On top of being a good teacher, he is a very kind man.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:MICRO 2306 - Dr. Buckles is the bomb!!!! The class was so interesting and he was honest with us! Yes he is a conservative but most importantly a Christian and he taught us that way! He infused theological discussions into our lectures in a very applicable and helpful way! The homework is few and far between and easy to manage and the quiz is EXACTLY like the homework!!! I highly suggest taking him and he curves the exams! He is a very nice guy and I’m really glad I took him!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ECO 2307 - DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU ARE IN ANY WAY LIBERAL. All the other reviewers loved him because he is so conservative, which would be fine if he didn't always feel the need to discuss social or political issues and just stuck to economical issues. I love economics but taking him for macroeconomics was a huge mistake. He teaching directly from the book, literally WORD FOR WORD and uses the same examples the book does, which to me is a sign he doesn't actually know the material that well. I missed class several times and I just read the textbook and learned more than in his lectures. Sure, the class only has 4 quizzes, two test, and a final which was nice. I'm so surprised by all the rave reviews he has, many of the people around me shared a similar dislike of him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2307 - Dr. Buckles macro class is great. He teaches the material in a way that laws it easy to understand and apply to the practice problems he assigns as homework although they aren’t taken for a grade. Instead he does a quiz over the homework which usually is a breeze if you took the time to actually do the homework. His test are easy if you review and attempt to learn the material well. My favorite part about buckles class was his way of incorporating Christian and political ideology to the class. If there were more professors like buckles this country would be in a much better place today. Overall this class was both informative and easy making it that much more fun to take.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ECO 2306 - Dr. Buckles is one of my favorite professors at Baylor so far! Right from the get-go, he makes it clear that he is a conservative Christian and aims to teach economics through the lens of a biblical worldview. He ensured my class that we're free to express and discuss our own opinions openly in a mature manner and that he wasn't going to act like his claim was the correct or truly superior one. In my humble opinion, this sort of collaborative acceptance where people's differing ideas and experiences can interact with each other is what an ideal classroom environment should be like. I personally really enjoyed whenever I stayed after a little and talked with him about economic and social issues in America. I thought it was really easy to talk to him about serious subject matter, and it was always interesting to see what his views on various matters were. He's a really chill guy, and the whole class should be pretty low-stress if you just do standard note-taking and studying. Buckles' teaching style is no-nonsense and no-filler—he lets you know exactly what ideas you'll need to know for each test, and he only teaches the things that he thinks will be the most important down the line. His lectures have fairly relaxed pacing, and even as a student who has a difficult time writing my notes fast enough to keep up with lectures, I was able to easily write down all of the info for each lesson. He takes things slow and steady, and he's always fine with questions being asked. Lastly, I thought I'd mention that there's no need for any monotonous textbook-reading for this class—everything he teaches in class is everything you need to know for the test. Buckles structures his grade percentages evenly—all of the quizzes amount to 25%, Test 1 is worth 25%, Test 2 is worth 25%, and the Final is also worth 25%. Homework is minimal, with the only homework that he hands out essentially being optional prep-work that will help you be ready for each of the quizzes he has sprinkled across the semester. While optional, I strongly recommend doing each homework assignment so that you can be best prepared for each quiz. Also, your lowest quiz grade is dropped at the end of the semester. In addition to that, there was also an extra-credit assignment our class could do that would get you an automatic 5/5 on your lowest quiz. When I took this class, there were four quizzes in total, and I can't imagine the total number of quizzes will deviate much from that in the future. Tests are very straightforward if you just study your notes and get the concepts memorized (he tells you what will be on each test the class day before the test day). His Final is no different, only that there'll be less focus on each individual chapter and more focus on the big ideas from the cumulative chapters. His tests were about 98% multiple choice (I recall there being only one fill-in-the-blank, and that was an extra credit question), so there aren't any essay questions or anything like that on his tests. Overall, Buckles is a great guy, and he's frankly one of the best professors I've had the pleasure of taking a class from so far. Take him! You can't go wrong with Buckles!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ECO 2306 - Brian Buckles was a unique professor. With a strong conservative and religious stance regarding both the social sciences and life in general, he aims to incorporate both aspects into his lectures. That being said, I never felt as if I was being indoctrinated with an unthoughtful viewpoint. He presents both sides to an argument and presents a solid case backing up his worldview. The class was very light in workload yet the content is not necessarily a joke. I wouldn\'t label it as \'tough\' per-say, yet it is not a pushover in rigor. This is a classic college course in the sense that there is little homework, yet knowing the material well for the two exams and final is crucial, as that accounts for %75 of the grade (%25 each) with quizzes filling in the rest. I felt that Dr.Buckles was a great lecturer and taught the material as clearly as possible. Even if I failed to see the use of a topic in-lecture, studying the material makes you realize how useful each and every topic is. I did well in the class, as I took MacroEcon. in high school. Despite this, I feel that anyone can do well in this class as long as they take the time to read over lecture notes and understand them. I walked away from this class feeling that I learned a great deal, and I feel that Buckles contributed to that.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ECO 2307 - Buckles is fantastic. Take him. I think higher education needs more people like him. Every time I left his class, I had a new perspective on economics, theology, and contemporary political issues. I can honestly say I learned more in this class than I have in any other class at Baylor, even though I studied less than my other courses. The exams are tough but fair; he gives you all the information you need to know during the lectures (which are incredibly engaging). I rarely had to open the textbook. If you are looking for a professor that will make you think deeply about the social sciences and understand economics on a whole new level, Buckles is your man.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2307 - Had Dr. Buckles for Macro, I would have taken him for Micro too if I could have. Class started in a bad room for note-taking so he got it swapped to a normal classroom; which was pretty nice of him to go out of his way and arrange that. Isn't shy about his religion and why should he be, at Baylor? Teaches with a conservative lean; doesn't hide that fact, and he is very open to discussion about any opinions he offers in class. His wife had a baby during the semester and he missed only 1 class period - less than I did. ha! Seems like a nice guy. Doesn't seem to care much about attendance but you're only hurting yourself missing lectures. Easy to follow during lectures, and material isn't rocket science. Do the homework, or at the very least the problems where you use formulas and have to apply the knowledge; and the quizzes and exams should be pretty easy. Made an A on the first 2 tests and I didn't spend more than 2-3 hours studying my notes. The Final exam was comprehensive and a little more difficult than I expected, but he also curves depending on the median class average. Also offered a very easy extra credit turn-in that helped the quiz average and drops the lowest quiz grade.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ECO 2307 - Professor Buckles is an incredibly informed, well-read, and passionate professor. He's teaching style is directly from the book, and he writes the notes on the board with you so it is easy to keep up. Buckles did a great job of connecting the class to current events and always challenged open discussion of hot topics which I found fun. honestly this professor made me want to major in economics- if you can do yourself a favor and take him!!!!!!!!! it's a fairly easy A if you just pay attention in class and do the assigned homework. hands down one of my favorite professors at Baylor, you will learn so much!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306 - Dr. Buckles is a great teacher. He is very clear at the beginning of the semester what is expected in his class. The homework is easy and if you do it you will have no problem with the quizzes in class. If you pay attention in class and take notes simply looking over the notes is all the studying you need to do for the exams. Dr. Buckles isn't afraid to talk about theology during class, which is refreshing given we go to a Christian university. All in all I enjoyed the semester with Dr. Buckles very much so and would highly recommend him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ECO 2307 - Dr. Buckles is definitely one of the professors you want to stay away from. Take the other options. While he seems to have somewhat of a passion for economics, he's told us directly before that he wishes he did something else with his life. He's a middle aged dad who travels an hour and a half to Waco to teach, which means he's never available to help you really. He offers office hours directly before or after class, but that's it, and he's not the type of guy who is happy to teach you. One time I had a question about some homework and he looked at me like I was an idiot and that the answer obvious. He only has two tests, so if you get a low grade on one, you have to do really good on the other. The final is cumulative and very in depth. I expected a higher grade in the class, but he has a weird curving system and doesn't post our grades anywhere. Essentially, you don't know what you have until he posts the grades on BearWeb. Lastly, Brian likes to chew cough drops as he lectures, so if you sit front row, expect to get spit on your desk. I'm not kidding when I say one class a small chunk of a cough drop flew across the room and landed on my paper. Altogether, I'm SO glad this class is over with.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:ECO 2306 - I really like Buckles because he is very straightforward in the what he expects in the class. The homework is not graded but is used as a prep for in-class quizzes that are 25% of the grade. Tests were definitely a representation of lecture material and he does do a review session the class before an exam. The strange thing that kind of bugged me is the way he does grades. He does them off a curve and will add curve points at the end of the class. You never really know what you have in the class until the final grade is posted online. Really sweet guy and easy lecture to follow. Would totally take him again.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2017-12-07

Comments:2306 & 2307 - Buckles does a good job explaining what he thinks is important and making it clear what to expect on test. The test aren't to bad but there is only two and a final so you have to do well on them since they are 75% of your grade. No homework other than a couple quizzes. Super nice guy but, he brings up politics and theology frequently so be prepared for that.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-11-08

Comments:2306 - Although he's pretty lazy, he's a pretty good teacher. He knows his material well and explains it in a good way. He's also very conservative which is good. His test aren't too bad but if you do bad on one you are in danger of failing the class because they are 25% of your grade. I'd take him again  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2017-11-19

Comments:ECO 2307 - I really enjoyed having Buckles this semester! He made the material very interesting by applying conservative politics and theology into his lectures. There is barely any homework (they're all from the textbook) and he has homework quizzes for them. The tests aren't difficult if you study the homework problems and pay attention to the lectures in his class. I'd definitely take him again for another course!   - Grade In Class:B+
