Comments:HIS 1300 - The class was pretty easy and not too much work. She assigned readings and discussions but I found them manageable. She posts her slides too after class, but they're mostly pictures, so you have to take good notes. She is not the most friendly professor honestly. I found her to be fairly cold and passive aggressive. However, I felt like she taught the class well, and the exams weren't difficult.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - TAKE HER!!! I don't understand the harsh comments as I thought this class was fair. I understand the thing about the phones, but I never saw anyone being kicked out of class, and if you don't go on your phone you shouldn't have a problem. There are four exams with two short essay questions (you choose from three prompts) and five short ID questions, which just require you to write two sentences about the listed person, place, thing, etc. There is an opportunity for two points of extra credit on each exam (including the final also), so I ended up with over 100 percent. I took notes during the lecture and looked over them before each exam and tried to write two sentences about each thing I thought would be on the exam, which made it easy when it came to the exam. Professor Coffman made it easy to learn about history as I never enjoyed it before and I would definitely recommend taking her!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - Some of these comments are a little harsh. Yes, the TA’s would take up phones or laptops but I didn’t mind it as I was trying to learn. I never saw them yell at or kick anyone out. However, the tests were easy which made the TA’s grade them quite harshly and they wanted more specifics than it sounded like when dr Coffman described the tests. As for the readings, they were pretty long so most times I did not do them and it wouldn’t impact me at all. I loved dr coffman’s teaching style as she told everything like it was a story which helped me remember topics on the tests. I’ve also seen comments saying she was politically biased and I don’t feel like she was. Most of her opinions were quite universally accepted. The class is definitely no easy A, but i still found it enjoyable.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:HIS 1300 - Dr. Coffman herself was an interesting professor to listen to. She clearly had a strong understanding of the material she was teaching us. She also clearly had a love for what she was talking about. I would add that she would often make comments that were biased towards a certain political spectrum. Her notes were organized and she never stuttered when speaking. The tests questions themselves were easy and straight from the lectures. She also posted her lectures after class, and told us multiple times to study the lectures to do well on the tests. I did this and scored an A on every single exam. My biggest complaint about the class would be the Learning Assistants. The LA’s were the graders of our tests, and would rotate each group that they would grade. I disliked this, as you did not know to what standard your test would be graded. Overall, the class was an easy A with minimal effort. As long as you did the work and followed her instruction, you were guaranteed an A.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - For starters, I'm not a history person whatsoever, but taking this class really helped me learn history in a unique way. She chose to teach about food and I really liked that she did "food factors" where different groups got to do an activity in front of the class. She allow the food groups to keep the food if they wanted. Her tests aren't that hard as long as you study the terms and people. I made A's on all her exams with just studying a night or two before (not all-nighters, maybe like an hour or two). You also got to answer an extra question for an extra 2 points (all her exams were out of 20 points). Also, there was not a lot of work; just 2 discussions per week. Overall, I really got to enjoy this class even though sometimes it would be pretty boring, but easy with just a bit of studying.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1300 - I think the people in the previous comments that are somewhat bashing Dr. Coffman just didn't want to put in the (minimal) work. I made an A (90-100) on every single exam with little to no effort. I will say that the Graduate Assistants were perhaps not the most helpful or necessary, but that has nothing to personally do with Dr. Coffman. She's a very knowledgable and kind woman that's passionate about teaching and goes above and beyond to make her class engaging. Some of her topics do tend to dwell on one side of the political spectrum, but I absolutely do not consider her to be biased. I think her class was really eye opening in some aspects of history and I loved that! I wish she taught more courses so I could take her again!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - This isn't the best option for an easy A. The workload isn't that difficult, but her exams are so unnecessary. No multiple-choice, all essay questions. Her essay questions are also extremely demanding. If you're not good at history, do NOT take this class. If you do okay, you will be fine. Also, her TAs would walk around and confiscate your phones if you used them??? Her grading system is pretty terrible as well, and she graded attendance using two metrics-everything just seemed really disorganized. She talked a lot about slavery and feminism because it's very essential to the development of food history, but she would sometimes involve topics that were completely unnecessary. Don't take her if you don't have to. If you do, she's not terrible. Just not the best option.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - flop teacher tbh! sweet and endearing but the class topic was "american food history" yet we barely talked about food history, mostly just politics and slaves and feminism. workload was kind of a lot, there's a bunch of reading and at least two discussion posts a week that got tedious. tests were medium difficulty, just make sure you go through the slides and actually know what she's talking about, but even then it just matters what TA you get because they all grade differently and it would switch around a lot. its a hit or miss of a class, and i wouldn't choose her for a blowoff class option  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:His 1300 - Her His1300 class was terrible. She is rude and did not care one bit about her students. Her TA's walked around the class and took up people's phones and computers if they were not "paying attention" they would yell at students and kick people out of class. The amount of work is doable but her tests are all short answers and essays. The TA's did all the grading and they varied a lot, one would grade easy while the other graded harshly. The HW would never be talked about in class and honestly there it was just busywork. Also, she teaches about food and makes it boring.. idk how she does it but she can.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - TAKE COFFMAN! She is so great and will work with you to make sure you do well. The class is not hard - just do the work and you will be fine. The reflections and essays are graded a little rough, so take time to do a good job on them.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - I'll be honest, I would normally call Dr. Coffman's class boring in the sense that most classes were very slow. However, I contend that this is the case for most History courses at Baylor, especially if you're a non-History major. I respect Dr. Coffman and her personality but didn't really enjoy either half of this course (I took it during the COVID-19 lockdown semester). I probably would not take it again if I am being totally honest. But if you're looking for an easy A with some learning here and there of history I would probably say go for it. You won't run into any issues of getting a bad grade or anything of the sort if you just put a tiny bit of effort in.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 1300 - Dr. Coffman is one of the best Baylor professors I've come across. I am not a fan of history, but have ended this class loving it. She ties historical events into your life today and makes things interesting enough for you to actually pay attention. The class was supposed to consist of weekly readings, three quizzes, three cookbook reports, and a final project/exam (your pick). She also offers extra credit (you can write a "blog post" for points or volunteer at a Texas history fair). The readings were so easy to follow and actually kind of interesting, but make sure you keep up with them--it can pile up really fast if you don't. She also gives really helpful test guides. Make sure you do the reading!! I was golden for the first quiz just by doing so. The second half of this class was online, but I will say Dr. Coffman was the professor that handled it the best out of all my other ones. She had a plan that ensured we were still learning without having to stress about tests and hard deadlines. She was always ready to answer emails and encouraged us the whole way through. She's probably the best history teacher I've ever had, and I highly recommend taking her if you have the option!!!! Take her!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS-4340 - I loved this class's material but this professor was not the best. She does not respect any viewpoints other her own. She once said during a discussion about economics, and I quote, "market forces are not a thing". Why a self-proclaimed socialist would teach a class on capitalism is beyond me. If you can write in a way that represents her viewpoints, not your own, and you do the work, an A won't be too hard. I received Bs until I figured out how she graded. From that point on, I wrote like Bernie Sanders and received straight As. The class consisted of short readings for homework, 3 short blog posts, a book report, and a research project. All of this was pretty easy. My advice for this class: don't be yourself. Be her, and she'll like you.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2366 - TAKE THIS CLASS! She is one of the nicest professors ever and is really passionate about history. We only had 2 tests and a final along with being required to write 2 of 3 essays. There was only daily reading as homework which is not to bad because the stuff is interesting. I took regular history in high school with coaches as teachers. This class is not difficult.  - Grade In Class:A
