Comments:NSC 1306 - I would not take her if you have the option. This was a team-taught course, and I did the worst on her tests out of all 4. I got a B in the class, only because this test was thankfully dropped. Her lectures are all over the place and don't really follow the lecture notes they tell us to buy. However, she did work with us to not include a section so that we could have the Friday before Thanksgiving off.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:NSC 1306 - Dr. Malavanti is awesome. Her unit of the team-taught Introduction to Neuroscience covers a small part of Chapter 6, Chapter 7, 10, and 16. A lot of the information in Chapter 16 is really theoretical, but she does a really good job at explaining everything. With her unit, and really with all the units of the course, just make sure that you read the textbook before class and make flashcards from it (I prefer Anki, although some of my classmates also did well using Quizlet). Her slides are good to give you an overview and are a good basis for active recall since you can practice adding to the information from there. She pulls a lot of her questions straight from Revel, so I definitely recommend using that to read the textbook. If you have any questions, ask her!! She is super helpful. I will admit, she can be a bit hard to follow in lecture if you haven't done the readings, but other than that she's super! I definitely hope to take her again in the future!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:NSC 1306 - I did the best in her section of this team-taught class. I am not sure why she receives these many negative reviews. I had a good experience with her! The units she covers are very interesting and more theoretical.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:3311 - The class is structured like an upper level bio course where lecture covers maybe a third of the material for the exams, and you really just need to know the material in the book. It is from my understanding that she had modified some stuff in the class to make it easier, so I cant imagine how it was before this. From what I understood, she added an extra exam, added weekly quizzes with optional homework to study, and changed a few other minor things. The exams were pretty difficult and like I said, covered the material all the material in the book. The quizzes were all online and were fairly easy, the lowest one gets dropped. regarding extra credit, there was really only one avenue for this as if you showed up to 100% of the lecture your lowest test grade would get replaced, which I feel is an odd thing to have during a pandemic. Other than that, she added two extra credit questions to 2 of the 4 exams including the final. There was also a research paper that you have to write throughout the semester and give a presentation on it, but overall was not that bad. Overall, the class is difficult but if you just read the book and study it, the class isn't too bad.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:NSC 3323 - If you don't have to take her, don't. Dr. Malavanti is a really nice person, but unfortunately she wasn't a good professor. I was excited about S&P because it interested me in Intro to Neuro, but this class was awful. It made my semester hell. The exam questions are poorly written and she tests on super obscure concepts in the textbook that are not relevant to any big concepts, and her lectures were not helpful at all. I regret not having skipped class and just spent that time re-reading the chapter instead. There were major pathways she never covered and instead chose to show YouTube videos for half of the class time. Don't take her! I can't express how happy I was when the class was over, which sucks because I love neuro. You're better off taking a different class with a better prof.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:3323 - TLDR; She is not a good lecturer and her exams are poorly written. Malavanti's S&P course was possibly one of the most stressful and difficult classes I have taken, not because the content itself is difficult but because the class and exams were poorly organized. Her class consists of 4 exams, readings that are also on the exam, a project that consists of a presentation and a media submission + a final exam. My biggest problem with her teaching style was that she went through the materials extremely fast without putting any usable notes on her power point slides. On top of that, she'd skip huge parts of the chapter and expect us to read and know it on our own for the exam. There were days where she'd just end class 15 minutes early or cancel altogether. She'd also play way too many YouTube videos, most that weren't very important for class but she'd still test us on the videos..? I saw no point in going to class because most of her exam questions came from something extremely obscure in the textbook which meant we'd have to read the textbook very much in-depth and pretty much know everything. I can't emphasize just how dumb her exam questions were. It felt like she was trying to trick us as best she could rather than testing our understanding of the material. The project was pretty easy though - it seems she was trying to help cushion our grade with a boost so although the project was boring and time-consuming, it was an easy A assignment. Furthermore, Malavanti deserves credit for her efforts to help the students do well. She gave back some points if you explained your reasoning for a test question and she also curved our grades at the end which she normally said she doesn't do. In short, her class was horrible and it's one of the worst classes I've taken at Baylor.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1306 - Dr. M was probably the worst teacher out of everyone in the team taught Intro to Neuroscience class. She went very fast, didn't explain the arduous concepts clearly, and just assumed we had a very stable foundation of Neuroscience, even though we are all freshman. Almost everyone did horrible on her test, the average was a high D, I believe, because her test was oddly specific even though her teaching was oddly vague and confusing. I wouldn't take her!  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:3323 - Honestly, avoid taking this course with her. I had to take it as asynchronous online (thanks COVID) and it's the worst class I have had in all my 6 semesters. Dr. M was on leave from January literally until mid-April, leaving us to be "taught" by a grad student. When she came back, we only got 30-40 min of lecture video per chapter (each week is a chapter, so we did NOT get our 3-hr lecture time that we would in person). She was slow to respond to emails. We got little to no feedback on any assignments in the class, even after her leave. Each week we had an article to annotate, but they were hard to read, outdated, and hardly relevant. And the tests, UGH. I studied so hard, but it's difficult to self-teach the amount of detail she expects you to know. The highest grade I ever got on an exam was a 90, the rest were B's and never represented my effort. I think you have to sell your soul to the devil to be able to get high A's on those tests or something. I tripled my amount of studying for that last exam and only increased my score by two points. She is really sweet if you talk to her in office hours, and she did accommodate our week we missed from the freeze by letting us do those assignments to replace our lowest grades. I hate to say anything bad about her because she is so nice one-on-one, but she gives off the vibe that she literally could not care less about teaching her class. I hope that things are better for in-person students, but I have heard that the tests are just as ridiculous. And she doesn't let you see the exam unless you go to office hours, so something tells me she reuses them each semester. Like I said before, minimal effort is put into her class. I wanted so badly to like it, but I was very very disappointed.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:3311 - I don't like her for most of the reasons everyone else has said. She is not helpful and her lecture videos are pointless because what she says is never on the test. Her tests are hard. They are hard because she doesn't teach anything. I think the first few weeks of the class you think this is not bad and then you take the midterm and are completely caught off guard with her tests. In my opinion there is a lot of busy work with asynchronous. I don't mind that but she has been the worst professor I have had in the psych department. She is not helpful at all and her lectures are useless and a waste of time. She is also kind of rude because she ignores emails if you are asking a question regarding your grade. Some people like her, some people don't. Try to take someone els, I would not recommend taking her.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:3331 - This class is a lot of work, but the content is so interesting I honestly didn't mind. Being asynchronous because Covid, Dr. Malavanti was great about posting assignments and due dates early and clearly. She is so kind and teaches really well. The tests are no walk in the park, but if you prepare early and well you will be fine. Definitely recommend.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3323 - Dr. Malavanti is really nice and very helpful, especially in office hours. However, she is not a good professor she is not clear in her lessons and her test are so off from what she teaches in class. Here tests are fair but she likes to ask questions about details that aren't important to the overall picture of the class. I would recommend but just know she is not the best but she is better than others.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:S+P and Cognition - I cannot believe how much I love her!!! I felt my love of learning actually spark again! I wont lie, im not the brightest person but she always made me feel good about myself and really helped me learn the material  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:NSC 3323 - For being her first semester teaching, Dr. Malavanti was surprisingly an amazing teacher! I don't know if it's an act she puts on or if it's her true personality, but she was extremely interested in the material she was teaching and taught us with so much enthusiasm; it was a little overwhelming at times (because my class was half asleep for some reason) but it's what kept me focused and interested in the subject as well. She also brought her dog Roedie (named after Roediger haha) every now and then and he was super sweet and chill! I never visited her in office hours (I'm too shy to for any professor) but she was very understanding and accommodating to my needs throughout the semester. There was homework questions for each chapter that you had to complete, and to be honest these questions were so easy that I didn't even read the full chapters to answer them (sorry Dr. Malavanti!). There's also online quizzes for each chapter as well, and like the homework questions, I didn't really have to read the chapter to answer them (90% of the questions were literally extracted verbatim from the text so all I did was skim). She drops the lowest 5 quiz grades (out of 15) and mid-semester she decided to drop the lowest 5 homework grades as well; you can literally get 100% quiz and homework credit from how easy they are and the fact that some of them were dropped! There was 3 exams throughout the semester, which I did not like for two reasons: 1) usually when there's 3 exams, the professor doesn't drop the lowest one (as applied here), and 2) the first exam was basic Sensation & Perception and visual system, second exam was concepts in the visual system, and the third exam COVERED THE OTHER 4 SENSES. That may not seem bad to you, but converging 4 senses in one exam was a little rough considering it was a lot of reading for one exam compared to the others. The exam had multiple choice, short answers (she literally wants you to keep those short, sweet, and to-the-point), and essay questions (which you might want to expand on in a lot of detail). In my opinion, Sensation and Perception is a VERY interesting psychology subject so I thought the exams were pretty fair in testing our knowledge over the outstanding material. The final was solely multiple choice, which really did help a lot and evenly covered the material taught throughout the semester. Overall I very much enjoyed this class. It taught me a lot about Sensation and Perception and did so in a very challenging yet exciting manner. This class was very easy in my opinion; the only reason I got a B+ was because I didn't apply myself to studying for the exams. I absolutely 100% recommend her for S&P (you have no choice anyway lol) and you will enjoy her class as much as I did! She is a God-sent angel that knows exactly how to stimulate your interest in neuroscience/psychology.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:3323 - Dr. Malavanti is a wonderful professor! As a senior she has been one of my top 3 I have had. She gives a little bit of homework but its not overwhelming at all, it is really an almost freebie and helps to boost your grade. Her tests are reasonable and she is a fair grader, she is super friendly and a very entertaining lecturer, sometimes I forget how much I love learning but she helped me find my passion again. She regularly shows demonstration videos to keep things fun and interesting and to help you better understand, and is so open and friendly you will want to go to office hours just to talk to her. Highly recommend and will be taking her again for cognition.   - Grade In Class:A
