Comments:HED 2421 - Katie Brown is very educated and her work experience can prove that. However, she is not a good educator by any means. You will rely more on the textbook and yourself more than you rely on her. She posted new material to learn and memorize less than 24 hours before the exam. You leave her class feeling confused most of the time, but attendance is a grade and she will report you to your advisor if you start not showing up. Pros: She posts the guide you'll need for the exam. Everybody that I know usually just relies on the textbook. She will also not go over anything in depth in class because "her videos" will explain it. As if teaching IRL isn't her job. Not terrible, but also not good. She also leaves her lab TA's confused and without materials sometimes. So if you have a TA for A&P2 lab, you will all be confused together. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:HED 2421 - Dr. Brown is very knowledgeable in this content as she was a pediatrician in the past. The class itself is very interesting, but the workload is crazy. She wrote the textbook we used, which is very helpful, but each exam covered about 300+ pages of that textbook, making it very difficult to study even two weeks in advance. She also posts lecture videos along with our in-person lectures, which we are expected to watch before each class. If you take her class, be prepared to read a ton and study as you go. DO NOT WAIT! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:HED - Dr. Brown is literally the best professor I could have asked for. She is so kind and flexible. I got a concussion partway through the semester and she was so kind in allowing me to take the exam a week after everyone else with her in her office. As long as you really lock in like a week before the exam and study all of her readers hard, her exams are sooo straightforward and easy. She is a full time mom as well and is so helpful whenever you ask her questions. She knows who listens in her class too and that is super great as well! Take Dr. Brown if you get the chance! She is absolutely amazing. She has also been a Dr. for so long her knowledge is super helpful and she explains everything in a great way. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:HP 1420 - If you like extra credit, take Brown. I am not kidding, I did the math on Canvas and my grade was 13 points higher because of all the extra credit in the class. Apparently she only teaches in the fall because she is a full time doctor, so if you can put off taking the class, I would definitely recommend that!! I\'ve heard other professors were a lot harder, so taking her was a GPA booster. In terms of her teaching, lectures were definitely a little boring, but it\'s soooo worth it. There\'s almost no homework and her tests aren\'t too bad, all multiple choice. I would recommend her!!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:HP 1420 - I absolutely loved learning from Dr. Brown! She’s super sweet and definitely knows what she’s talking about. The class is structured very simply: 6 exams, including the final, and your final lecture grade is calculated with your Anatomy Lab grade. Dr. Brown made the material very easy to understand. She doesn’t try and trick you on her tests with the types of questions she asks. Her questions are very straightforward as long as you study what’s in her powerpoints, and she curves them! There are no quizzes or outside class assignments, so I would recommend using that time to study!!! The material may be simple but there tends to be a lot you need to know for the test! She also offers opportunities for extra credit. She is very kind and loves what she does. Take her! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1420 - Dr. Brown is hands down the best anatomy professor at Baylor. She only teaches one section, as she's a practicing pediatrician and commutes to campus just to teach this class. Because of this, she isn't available to have office hours, but she will meet with you either before or after class if you email her and schedule it in advance. I didn't find this to be an issue at all, since anatomy is not really a subject where you have many questions about the actual content. Grades in this class are based on 7 exams (including the final, weighted the same as other exams), attendance, and occasional small quizzes. She calls the quizzes "extra credit" because she will literally tell you exactly what she will be quizzing you on during the class before, but she enters them in as their own grade, not as extra credit points. I think it is her way to get you to start studying some of the material before the actual test. I literally got 3/3 points on every quiz because she really does tell you the exact things that you'll be quizzed on. She also drops your lowest test grade (which can be your final, although you still have to actually show up and take the exam) and has tons of actual extra credit things you can do like listening to podcasts or TED talks online that are related to anatomy. Her tests are straight forward and she curves them. For each test, she provides an individual "syllabus" of exactly the information that will be on the test, so there's no need to even get the textbook for this class because she'll literally give you a mini textbook of just what she wants you to know. Yes, anatomy is a lot of memorizing and regurgitating information, but that's just the nature of the course and Dr. Brown could not make this class any easier or more straightforward. She is also super kind, funny, and professional and clearly loves teaching this class. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN GET HER!! - Grade In Class:A
