Comments:2310 - The GOAT!!!! TAKE HUMPHREYS!! She's super nice and passionate about English literature, and clearly knowledgeable about her authors. Unlike other english classes, she teaches using short stories instead of novels, so the readings are usually pretty short, and we cover a lot of ground, which prevents the class from being super boring. She holds exam reviews, where she literally gives you every question on the next exam, and as long as you know those answers (just pay attention during class, she will literally tell you what will be on the exam during lectures), it's a free A. The final project is super easy as well.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - DR. HUMPHREYYYYYSSS!!! She is the best person you will every meet at Baylor. She is so passionate about what she teaches and it definitely inspires you too. The course consisted of; quizzes, 4 tests, and a final paper. The quizzes are everyday over the readings and there are little details in the quizzes that you would only know if you read. But other than that it is easy and she often curves them. The tests are very easy if you show up to class a pay attentions. On review day, she goes over the questions on the test and you just have to find them on your own time. The project was so easy and she gave my whole class a 100 (I don't know if everyone's was that good or she's a easy grader). It was a 2 page (double-spaced) paper) and a 8-13 minute video over an author of your choosing. Overall, I would take this class over again mainly because of Dr. Humphreys and her personality. I always felt like I was annoying my professors by emailing them so much but she reassured me that I wasn't. UGHHHH I can't recommend her enough I love her.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Humphreys is the best professor ever. She is kind, flexible, and a fair grader. I took her in the spring of 2023. She canceled class frequently (which was nice because we can just work on our essays at home). She always gave feedback on your work so that you would succeed. If you dislike writing like me, you can still do well and get an A in the class as long as you meet the requirements. Even if you don't get an A on the essay, she allows you to rewrite the essay for a better grade. Her class periods are different than other types of classes. Instead of getting lectured, her class is basically just a study hall. You work on your writing assignment or essays and turn it in at the end of the class period. She is really flexible with the due date, so if you need extra time, she won't deduct points. I always preferred to stay the entire class time to work on my writing so that I wouldn't have to work on it at home, but many other students left early. Fun fact: She gives extra credit if you come to class on a rainy day! If you want a stress-free class, take her!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - I took this course as a winter master and it was a lot. Assignments and quizzes every single day. Despite the work load she was a great professor and super helpful!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ENG 2310 - American Literacy Cultures----- TAKE A CLASS WITH DR. HUMPHREYS! I cannot overemphasize how much of an angel she is. She is one of the nicest, funniest, most lovely people ever and an incredible professor. She knows very well how to teach a class geared toward non-English majors and gives enough information in order to be thorough but not so much that it's unnecessary. This class had readings for every class but most of the readings were 10 pages or less of amazing short stories. Every story she picks is interesting and an easy read. There are daily quizzes (every class meeting) that are 10 questions long and since there are so many, she drops around 10 of them. The tests are directly from her lectures; if you take notes and star what she says is important, you will get a 100 in this class, no problem. She is interesting and lively while teaching and explains concepts very well. She loves student interaction and I often went up to her after class to share my thoughts or opinions and she was always very happy to engage. She encouraged us to think deeply and is incredibly compassionate. I went through a medical situation the semester I took this class and she followed up with me throughout the semester to check on me and see if I needed anything. There is a final project where you pick any work written by an American author and make a short presentation (ours was online) and write a two paged, double-spaced paper about what you learned or general impressions. This project is very low stakes and she allowed people to pick anything from musical artists, American musicals, short stories, novels, anything. She is amazing and will absolutely work with you if you need anything.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - SHE IS THE BEST!!! She is so passionate about the coursework that it is easy to listen to her lectures. The tests are directly from her lectures, so if you listen - you will get an A! There are daily quizzes over the assigned reading which ask details of the story that you will not be able to answer if you don't read...but the assigned readings are short and interesting. If your taking this class, choose Humphrey. She is so excited that it is contagious!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - BEST PROFESSOR EVER. I love love love Humphreys and her class. She is so bright and bubbly which made me always excited to go to her class. The workload is super easy and we had one quiz all semester. 10/10 recommend taking this course!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER!!! she is so sweet and you can really tell that she loves what she does and cares about her students. I am pre-med and I took this class as a requirement, but I honestly really enjoyed it and definitely never felt stressed about it. Easy enjoyable A for sure :))  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - Loved Dr. Humphreys! She is super sweet and grades very nicely! There are daily quizzes but as long as you read the short stories, they are easy. And the exams are directly from the lectures, so take notes and you will do well. The workload was not too much and the class was enjoyable, fun, and easy.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ENG 2310 - American Lit. She is AMAZING and so sweet! She cares so much for her students. You are seriously mistaken if you do not take her. She explains things so well and prepares you amazing for tests and quizzes. Quite a bit of reading, but that is to be expected for an American lit class. The reading is not hard, and I found a lot of it to be very enjoyable. We had a quiz for every class, but the reading was never long. 4 Exams, and a final presentation as well. Do yourself and your gpa a favor and take her!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - The best professor at Baylor! I have never been so willing to write three different essays in one semester. She helps to pace the workload and most days you do not even have to stay in class for the full class period. I had her in the morning and she never failed to greet students as they walked in, she was really personable. She gives extra credit for going to the writing center and will gratefully revise your essay before the final due date to make sure you get the highest grade you can get. She makes it a point to learn student's names and never fails to say goodbye to each student by name as they leave. There was only every one quiz from the "required" textbook and most people either did not buy the textbook or did not read it because she added a large curve on the quiz after she saw that most of the grades were not that good. I LOVED Dr. Humphreys - absolutely take her if you can!! She has a real passion for what she does.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-11-21

Comments:2310 - Dr. Humphreys was incredible!! She is so sweet and always willing to engage in conversations about your readings. She has daily quizzes over readings but allows you to take in a notecard with notes on it to use on quizzes. There was a lot of reading, but it was manageable and the quiz questions were super easy! TAKE HER!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-11-20

Comments:2310 - Take her. Please just take this professor. She is the sweetest lady ever and has so much enthusiasm, which makes this course so much fun, and this review is coming from someone who does not like English courses whatsoever. I absolutely loved this class and Dr. Humphreys and would take it again in a heartbeat! I took this class online during COVID, and it was the easiest course I've taken. The readings really aren't that bad. They're pretty straightforward and actually kind of interesting (again, this is coming from someone who doesn't like English classes or reading). Her lectures are short, and trust me when I say that you probably won't do well if you don't watch them and do the outlines for them. Her tests basically come straight from them. She has quizzes on the readings, but they aren't hard if you read. Sparknotes isn't quite specific enough for her quizzes, so I would recommend readins before the quizzes, which are all multiple choice by the away. Again, this is for 2310 as an online course, so it's kind of hard for me to speak on what an actual in person class would be like with her, but I bet she is super fun and upbeat, just like she is online. I highly recommend her!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-11-19

Comments:2310 - Take this class. This class for me was online due to the pandemic and by far was my easiest class. She tells you EXACTLY what is going to be on the test and the reading quizzes are not hard. Although sparknotes won't be as much help to you because there are small detailed questions that go beyond the summary of the books. Take this class. Easy A.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - Amazing professor. She loves what she teaches about and really cares about her students. You do have to read a lot and have quizzes daily. Honestly though it’s manageable and quizzes are easy as long as you read. I highly recommend taking Dr. Humphreys.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-09-23

Comments:2310 - If you read many of the other reviews on her page, you'll know that Dr. Humphreys is very nice and sweet. I completely agree with this. I will instead focus on the course I took with her (American Literary Cultures). While I did enjoy many of the stories I read in this course, I think there were far too many assigned to us. The readings were longer than I anticipated and were difficult to balance. I'm a little bit of a slower reader personally and this is only a 2000 level course so I was a little thrown off for the level of workload. I greatly appreciate Dr. Humphreys assistance during this course and the passion and energy she puts into her lectures. Despite my struggles, I would probably take this course again simply because of her persistence and consistency in keeping our class alive in the morning and making sure the material flows nicely.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:American literary culture - Dr. Humphreys is the nicest person you will ever meet. I would go visit her in her super cool office just to talk to her about anything. She is really intelligent and also really funny. She cares a lot about her students and that really comes through. Even though i am not her student this semester, whenever I have a stressful class, I would go to her office. Just being around her makes your day 1000% better. the test and quizzes are all multiple choice and there are no papers, just a short presentation. If you do the reading, the answers are pretty clear, but if you do not, you wont do well. Alos, she threw her favorite author a birthday party with cupcakes and the whole shabang. She also wrote a letter of rec for me. k, Im done. I just love her so much.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - PLEASE TAKE. best teacher i have ever had. she cares about everyone and is so passionate about her work!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-04-09

Comments:1302 - take her. she's super sweet and extremely helpful. I cannot stand English and Dr. Humphreys made it one of the classes I was most excited to attend. She offers to personally edit essays before grading them so her students can do as well as possible. I plan on taking her for American lit bc of the experience I had in her intro class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:American Lit Cultures - TAKE HER CLASS OTHERWISE YOU LITERALLY AREN'T EVEN DOING ENGLISH RIGHT! I love this woman TO DEATH. She is such a Mom and loves her job so much! You can see how passionate she is about everything and it really helped me fall in love with literature. Yes I put 5 stars on workload because I love her, but I didn't feel like it was even hefty. You read obviously, but what you are reading is so interesting. I think the most we ever read was about 50 pages in 2 days, but that was just for the novels (WHICH ARE EVEN SO INTERESTING!) You are quizzed every day on what you read, but she lets you bring in a notecard with information. And if everyone does poorly on a test, she'll drop it and give everyone 100s. At the end of the semester she turns your 5 lowest quiz grades into 100s. If you go to office hours with your notecard she'll check it and make sure you have quiz answers on that note card. This class isn't made to make you struggle, she wants you to have fun. She tells you exactly what is on the exam and the answer she is looking for. I have never gotten before an A on any exam. These Exams are mostly multiple choice with a few short answer questions (which you can write 3 words and get the correct answer). I LOVE THIS WOMAN TO DEATH PLEASE TAKE HER! Imagine Ms. Frizzle and Mary Poppins. That is Dr. Humphreys.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2304 - American Lit - class is fairly normal for a lit class. Reading quiz pretty much every day (MWF). She drops quite a few at the end of class. The handouts are super helpful for studying for the tests. When she says that something is important, it usually means it's on the exam. Exams are typically 40-50 MC with 1-2 "essay" questions. I used quotations because its more short answer than essay, but you really have to focus on the details you write. My favorite part of the class is definitely Prof Humphreys. I don't think I have ever had a prof who individually greets each person every single class. It's my morning class on MWF and always starts my day off on a good note. The group presentation at the end is easy as long as you don't wait til the last minute (like any group project). Was kind of weary of taking another lit class, but she made it interesting.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1304 - There aren't enough good things I could say about Dr. Humphreys. She is by far one of the best English professors in the department and probably at the university. She is so caring and kind and willing to help you with anything. She makes it almost impossible for you to do bad on an essay because she lets you send a rough draft of your essay to her, she'll edit it and send it back to you revised. Most professors don't do that. We do have quizzes that are from readings from the book. if you read the assigned pages the quizzes aren't hard. Dr. Humphreys was my favorite because anytime I submitted an assignment she would always send me a comment back telling me how great it was or how excellent it was. She would always compliment my writing style which was nice. She always let my class out early. She also makes it a priority to learn your name by the second day of class. She greets you and says good morning to each and every person. She is such a nice person who really cares about her students. I highly recommend taking Humphreys.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - Dr. Humphreys is honestly the nicest prof at Baylor. From day one she made it a priority to learn her student's names. She is so helpful when it comes to writing essays and wants her students to get an A. She is always smiling and brightens up the classroom. Her workload isn't too bad, and its not hard. Every 2 weeks or so, there will be an essay. And there are quizzes over readings from the books, but again, they are easy A's.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2018-11-28

Comments:2304 - I can't say enough good things about this teacher. The way she cares about her students and the class is incredible. From day 1, she inspired us with her enthusiasm for the course. She also learned everyones names in the first few classes and continued to know our names throughout the semester, just one example of how much she cares. The class isn't too difficult if you try and do the readings.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-11-23

Comments:1302 - Dr. Humphreys was my favorite professor this semester. She learned all of our names by the second class and is very helpful. She is always available and gets back as soon as possible. Before you turn in a paper she will look at for you so you can correct errors and make an A. You have some quizzes but as long as you read they are easy. She is so kind and makes English fun. She is also very passionate about English which makes it even more enjoyable. TAKE HER CLASS!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-11-14

Comments:ENG 1302 - Dr. Humphreys is THE BEST. She learned all of our names by the 2nd class, and I loved how she took the time to greet every single one of us in the morning. We have quizzes almost everyday, but they're so easy. She assigns reading assignments from the textbook, but it's usually only like 3-5 pages. It's seriously not bad at all. Also, for every class, we have a worksheet or assignment that we do. Dr. Humphreys does read through all of the assignments that we turn in and provides feedback, but for the most part, this is just a completion grade. I did bad on one quiz, but it didn't even drop my grade because there were so many 100s in the grade book from the daily activities we do in class. Additionally, make sure to go to her office hours to have her look over your essay before you turn it in! I did this for every essay, and she helped me improve my writing skills. I have never gotten below a 97 on an essay because she takes the time to help me. I usually never talk during class because I am a super shy person, but I love talking in Dr. Humphreys class. I always look forward to her class, and I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone!!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-11-08

Comments:ENG 2304 - Dr. Humphreys is amazing! She is kind and cares about every student. She learned all our names and greeted us every morning. She went out of her way to make sure the quizzes weren't too hard and she even baked us cookies just because! She is passionate about American Lit and does a great job helping students through the material and making it interesting! Go to class and do the reading and you will get an A (: Her class is the best of both worlds because you actually learn so much, but she doesn't make you slave to get an A. I highly recommend taking this class!!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-05-16

Comments:2304 - Dr.Humphreys is absolutely the sweetest professor I have had here at Baylor! She gives daily handouts that are extremely helpful for the exams and her quizzes are super straight forward! Plus she drops a quiz and gives a great review for what to expect on the exams!Even if you are not the biggest fan of English she makes the class super entertaining and simple to understand! Not to mention the final group project is a great grade boaster! You will not regret taking her and you will have the best time if you do!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-04-25

Comments:ENG 1304 - WOW! There are not enough good things to say about Dr. Humphreys. She is truly the best professor I have had at Baylor. She goes out of her way to help her students. English is not my strongest subject, and she was always encouraging and postive. She will look over your essay multiple times before you turn it in, and if you do this you will most definitely make a good grade in the class. You will not regret taking her class. She is a ray of sunshine, and she has really made a difference in my time at Baylor. TAKE HER. TAKE HER. TAKE HER.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-04-19

Comments:1304 - Dr. Humphreys is by far the best teacher I have ever had. She is very helpful, and is very encouraging. She loves her students, and will support you in all that you do. The workload for this class was average, and she allows a lot of time in class to work on essays. I would highly recommend her.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-04-09

Comments:2304 - Dr. Humphreys is the BEST!!! Her lectures are engaging and straightforward. She gives you handouts so you can follow along in class and study off of them. You have reading assignments every night and quizzes almost every class period, but trust me just read or even spark note it and you'll be fine. She's passionate about literature and so much fun to have as a professor. Her exams are straightforward and only over material covered in class. I absolutely loved being in her class. If you have the opportunity to take her, DO IT!!! SHE IS AMAZING!  - Grade In Class:A
