Comments:PSY 3313 - Malavanti is super sweet, funny, and genuinely wants to help her students, however, her teaching style is extremely difficult. Both people in my team-taught class when it was her unit, and other classes have agreed that the way she teaches is a bit hard to follow. For this class, slides were mostly just from the textbook, and I feel like I could just stay home. She also seems to word things in a overly academic way that makes it hard to follow unless youre a linguistic learner.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PSY 1305 - For me, Dr. Malavanti's teaching style worked well with my learning style. I found the structure of her slides to be effective in helping me digest and remember the information. Most slides had few bullet points, some had a ton of text (so I usually just took a picture of those), some just had a diagram or video (but it would usually be a relevant and helpful example that she would explain pretty well), some had practice questions (which usually showed up later on exams), and some had quick discussion prompts/partner activities. All of her lectures were posted on Canvas too, and her Canvas page is very well-organized and easy to navigate. Her exams were pretty straightforward for the most part and she always graded them quickly (for most [if not all] of them we got our scores back on the same day). Shivani was our SI leader, and I usually found her practice exams to be a great way t review. There's an open-note quiz for each chapter, but beware that your lecture notes alone will not be very helpful; most of the quiz questions come from the textbook. You're also required to submit a study guide for each chapter, but if you just take notes during class and submit them when she finishes going over the chapter, that's perfectly sufficient. It's really just an easy way to get more points. She drops your lowest exam and I believe 2 or 3 of your lowest quiz grades. You're required to participate in 4 credits worth of SONA studies, which may sound overwhelming, but you really just need to answer a bunch of simple survey questions (also, here's a pro tip if you're in a time crunch: if you start a survey and the first question determines your eligibility, and you submit an answer that deems you ineligible, the survey will conclude without you needing to answer any more questions and you'll still get the same credit for it). If you complete more than 4 credits worth of studies, she'll give you up to 5 points of extra credit. There were definitely some days where class felt super long and/or it was hard to stay focused; also, I do wish the quizzes had more to do with the lectures, and that it was a bit more clear what the expectations surrounding the textbook were; overall, though, Dr. Malavanti was one of my best professors this semester and I would definitely be willing to take her again.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:PSY 1305 - Dr. Malavanti is an exceptional professor with a profound understanding of the subject matter. As a non-psychology major, I found her course to be highly valuable and well-structured. While her exams are challenging and demanding of students, the course material provided a comprehensive learning experience. I just am not good at studying. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Malavanti to anyone seeking an engaging and effective professor for their university core requirements.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:PSY 1305 - Dr. Malavanti is genuinely a very kind person, however I did find her teaching style a little difficult. Taking AP Psychology in high school definitely helped me in this course, but for those who have no experience whatsoever in psychology, this course may be a little difficult for you. Her lectures were super long and pretty boring and I found myself zoning out most of the class and ended up having to reteach myself all the material. I definitely recommend going to SI for this course as I would not have done as good as I did without my SI! In this course you will have chapter quizzes for every module you cover and I found those to be extremely difficult compared to her exams even. Dr. Malavanti's exams were never too bad (as long as you studied and went to SI) but the quizzes were just next level for me. Overall, Dr. Malavanti is seriously the sweetest person, but if you do not enjoy lectures at all, I would not recommend!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4385- Psychology & Film - Objectively, this class isn't super difficult. She makes it easy- only thing due are your simple short notes on the films watched, and , two discussion papers, and a slideshow/presentation at the end of the semester. It's a discussion based class so it's just you and your peers discussing a film you watched, and you have to lead one discussion. That's graded. You would have to try really hard to get below a B in this class honestly  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PSY 1305 - I took the team-taught Psychological Science course. Dr. Malavanti's exam was a little bit less straightforward than the other two, but she does really well with explaining all of the main concepts during lecture. Make sure to pay attention during class and read the textbook and you should do just fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - One of the better teachers out of the three. Her tests are pretty easy if you follow her notes and go to SI.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - i was in the group lecture class, dr.malavanti is an amazing teacher and super sweet I just felt that you had to study really hard and know almost everything in the lecture slides to do well. she got off track a lot however. go to SI !!  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:PSY 1305 - Boring Lectures but a manageable course.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - Dr. Malavanti is the best intro psych professor. She is easily one of my favorite professors I have had at Baylor, and I took her my junior year. She is the kindest soul and has great teaching ability. If you simply do the quizzes on time and review her lecture slides it is more than likely you will get an A. She is not only a great professor, but an ever better person. Take her!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - 1305 PSY Online - EASY. All PCQs have multiple attempts and can be found online or just by studying the keywords. Grading is very dependendant on turning things in on time. Overall would take again.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3311 - I don't like her for most of the reasons everyone else has said. She is not helpful and her lecture videos are pointless because what she says is never on the test. Her tests are hard. They are hard because she doesn't teach anything. I think the first few weeks of the class you think this is not bad and then you take the midterm and are completely caught off guard with her tests. In my opinion there is a lot of busy work with asynchronous. I don't mind that but she has been the worst professor I have had in the psych department. She is not helpful at all and her lectures are useless and a waste of time. She is also kind of rude because she ignores emails if you are asking a question regarding your grade. Some people like her, some people don't. Try to take someone else I would recommend not taking her.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:3311 - NEVER TAKE HER. first off, on the quizzes I would pick the correct answer and it would say I was wrong and that another answer was the correct answer. I sent her proof from the textbook that the answer I chose was correct and she would just ignore me. She made these quizzes herself which shows she does not even know the material. She has given me zeros on those assignments even though I showed her I was correct. One time she argued with me saying a psych term I was talking about did not exist so I had to send her a literal screenshot of the book where it showed the term was a highlighted key term. she ignored me after that. Anotehr example of how hard this class is: on our last quiz the average was a 5/10 and the highest grade was a 7/10.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - Dr. M was great at teaching. She really knows what she teaches, but I feel like she tried cramming way too much into one semester. In order to pass the tests or do well, you literally needed to memorize all the textbook chapters to do well. You must go to SI to really learn since there just isn't enough class time to actually learn information. Inquizative was also a helpful tool to really quiz yourself and be solid on the information. After each test, she held office hours and would really take the time to explain what you missed. She's a kind person, but her class is just insanely hard. She had clicker quizzes that made everyone's grades suffer because they were over the next chapter that we had not yet talked about; in order to pass the quiz, you needed to have already completely understood the material. I got an A because I studied for like 10 or more hours a week for her class, went to every SI, read every word of the textbook (I wish I was kidding), and did Inquizative. It is doable to get an A, but you better be prepared to WORK.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - She is by far one of the most difficult professors I've had to take at Baylor. Dr. M never used class time efficiently, but instead would talk about her personal life and brag about the great parenting techniques she uses. She gets very political randomly when it has nothing to do with psychology in any way and it's not the appropriate time nor setting for her to start telling students what stances to take on controversial issues. She never gets through all the slides and the slides she does present are vague and very general. I did all (yes, ALL) of my learning for this class outside of class because the time spent in class was in no way helpful or beneficial to learning. She spends time on class activities that no one participates in and aren't helpful, even though she says at the beginning of class that there is a lot of material to get through. Her tests are hard and very detailed, which I wouldn't mind at all if she taught some of the material in class and actually went over the details, but I learn it all from the textbook and outside studying. The last day of classes is when she decided to tell us that perfect attendance was extra credit, which no one knew because she never told us and it wasn't in the syllabus. She also disables the total calculation of your grade in the grade book so you have no idea what letter grade you have or what grade to expect from the semester. That was a huge stressor and I believe there is no valid reason for doing this and making the student jump through hoops just to find out how they're doing in a class. She gives out some extra credits, but they are few and far between and did not help much. I had taken psych in high school and had some basic knowledge of psych so I thought I could handle this professor, but she made this class far more of a hassle than it had to be. She's a very nice person but her bragging about her personal life, pushing politics into the lecture when it was irrelevant, and overall failure to properly teach made this class very difficult.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - She is amazing! So sweet, a good teacher, very helpful. I struggled in this class but she helped me in every way she could. Homework is kinda hard, the key is to have your text book open while doing it. Tests aren't too bad but still challenging.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:intro - I thought she was pretty good overall. She is a very kind lady and for sure knows her stuff. She makes all kinds of funny jokes and makes the class engaging and not boring at all. She's also very passionate and very sincere about her material. Sure it was a lot of work, and the tests were more difficult than necessary, but psychology isn't the easiest major in general. Don't take this class if you want and easy A, take it if you want to learn something and become more interested in the topic  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:PSY 1305 - Malavanti is by far one of the worst professors I have ever taken. I had taken AP Psych in high school as well as the national AP exam. I got an A- in high school AP psych and a 4 on the AP exam. However, that was not nearly good enough for this course. I put in effort and used my previous knowledge but I was still unable to succeed. This class is 100% based on 4 quizzes and stupid pop quizzes on material that we have never learned. Additionally, we have to participate in studies (which is not bad) but we get no credit for them; yet they are required to complete the course. She only gave us extra credit towards the end of the semester because she realized her course was too difficult whereas other psychology classes had been given extra credit oppurtunities throughout the semester and were receiving points for completing the studies. She also lied to us about the final saying it would be definition-based when it was actually all application and much harder than the chapter exams. On top of that, she would change the class' grading scale/curve whenever she wanted to but at the end only curved it by 2% when she has promised us a curve of at least 6%. The final alone dropped my grade from an 84% to a low C and it then significantly dropped my GPA. Malavanti is an awful professor and I would NOT recommend taking her unless you enjoy fake, unorganized, and lying professors.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1305 - DO NOT TAKE HER! WORST CLASS EVER! This class should not have been as hard as it was. Her teaching style is boring and she goes over incredible amounts of information every lecture. The tests are so hard. They are on the most random details from the textbook. To do well you have to memorize everything in the the textbook. SI is helpful if you have a good SI Instructor. Go if you want to pass the class. The final is cumulative and it covers the entire textbook so it was very hard to study for. She gave a lot of extra credit in the end because she realized how hard she was making the class. Do all the extra credit offered. You will thank yourself later. You have to participate in a couple online studies and a in-person study. These take longer to do than you might think. I ended with a B but that was after A LOT of hard work. Most people I knew in the class made below that. Don't take this class unless you have to.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1305 - DO NOT TAKE HER. She makes intro to psych much more complicated than it needs to be. We had pop quizzes almost every class and you would never know what it could be on and it was only 3 questions! So if you missed one you basically were screwed. An 'A' in her class is an 86. She was not present half the time I went to her office hours and when she was I was always waiting on her to get to her office because she was running late. She does application on all quizzes and exams. She said the final was going to be concepts and definitions but it definitely was NOT so study for it as application. She does not give full attention during her office hours to you as she half answers your questions while she is doing something else on her computer. She gave a lot of extra credit at the end which was nice but no intro class should have been as difficult as hers. SI was fine, but it was not as helpful as I was hoping it would be because Malavanti never gives direct answers when it came to whether or not certain topics would be on the exam. Basically to sum it up: you have 120+ pages of information to memorize and "everything is fair game" and she asks about the most detailed things on exams. Trust me - do NOT take her.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1305 - Recommend taking Dr. Malavanti. Class overall is very easy. I only read the chapters for the first unit test and scored an 82, then stopped reading the rest of the chapters and made above a 90 for the last remaining tests. However, the quizzes in class are bs only because you have to read for them, but reading 50+ pages for almost every chapter is annoying. If you buy the book or just buy the InQuizitive code, highly recommend using the InQuizitve feature - that's what I used to study and obviously did very well in the class. She also drops the lowest test grade. DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT and GO TO SI. To recap, InQuiztive + SI + Paying attention in class = A  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - I would not recommend taking Dr. Malavanti. The subject is very interesting and overall she is a kind person, but not a very good professor. Your grade is reflected upon quizzes and tests, nothing else. She makes the quizzes so difficult because it's a "pop quiz" over material she has not even gone over yet. The tests are okay but some of the content has material that she did not even thoroughly go over. Lectures are okay but she wastes a lot of time with wanting you to explain basically details of your personal life to your neighbor. Oh and she also will go through a whole 40-50 page chapter in one class, which makes it so difficult to be understand concepts. I would just avoid taking her.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-11-21

Comments:1305 - Do not take Malavanti's class like ever. She is a very nice person and is very kind, however, her class is SO hard to succeed in. The class is only a lecture and there is no homework except for reading, however she always gives pop quizzes on the chapter that she has not gone over yet. Like she expects you to know about what she has not taught yet... Her tests are literally so hard and do not reflect anything taught in class. The only thing your grade is based off of is tests and quizzes, which makes it really hard to be successful. She is a wonderful person and a great professor, however, it is extremely hard to be successful in her class. I love psychology, however, Dr. Malavanti has truly made me not like the subject which is sad...  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1305 - I love this woman. She's totally kind and adorable and is a wonderful teacher. SOmetimes brings her service dog to class. I enjoy her lectures which are fairly interactive, and she makes the subject interesting. She very clearly has a huge heart for others. I will agree that she is quite political at times, although I agree with much of her ideology, so I actually enjoyed it, but others may find it annoying or frustrating. Tests are not easy and the clicker quizzes are annoying but won't make-or-break your grade. I like visiting her at office hours, even though she's a little bit awkward at times. Love her though, she's a gem  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1305 - Great teacher but extremely political. Compared holocaust to illegal immigrants being stopped at border. If you don’t mind that you’ll be fine if you go to SI and do the reading.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3311 - Excellent teacher! She is such a breath of fresh air and breathes some life into the subject! I was concerned about the community project but it wasnt too hard and she made it worth my time by making it worth quite a bit of basically free points  - Grade In Class:B
