Comments:CSI 2334 - I had Fry for both Discrete Structures and Intro to Computer Systems. This Professor is extremely hard, and the workload in this class has been greater than all of my other classes combined. Additionally, her grading is ruthless, and it is very difficult to consistently receive A's on programs and assignments. The projects she gives are interesting but completely irrelevant to the class and are also extremely time-consuming. The best way to get good grades on assignments and projects in this class is not necessarily to get the answers correct but to put in a lot of work. For projects, make your reports unnecessarily long and detailed. For assignments, show way more work than is necessary for each problem. If you are taking Discrete Structures, I would recommend taking the class over the summer so you can get a different prof. If you are taking intro to comp systems, make sure you have a schedule that is otherwise light and easy, because this class alone will take more time than all of your other classes combined.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:CSI 1430 - Prof. Fry is a very nice person but i'll cut to the chase her grading is extremely harsh. I cannot tell you how many assignments I ended up failing not because the program I wrote wasn't functioning right, but because a comment wasn't exactly up to her vague and unclear standards. Do not even get me started on the practicums... they are EXTREMELY stressful not because the program was difficult, but because even if you still got the program right you could still fail due to small documentation mistakes that you didn't even know were mistakes until after you found out you failed it. I just felt Prof. Fry made this class way more stressful than it needed to be and that 1 to 5pt mistakes on an assignment were amplified to 20 - 50 pt mistakes. I would recommend avoiding her if at all possible ESPECIALLY if you're a freshman CS major.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Intro to Comp Systems - Professor Fry has the most material readily available to students, but expects a lot. Her rubric for homework and projects is unforgiving and relentless. Her workload is high and the material covered is only helpful in a handful of professions, but isn't useless. I have an internship at visa and her class is actually helpful in for low level work that I'll be doing. She is incredibly nice outside of the classroom but terrifying within it.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1430 - This class isn't about whether you know the material or not. This class is about how much she likes you as a person. I knew all the material like the back of my hand and still got a C+. To give an example of her harsh grading, one time for a function comment I put "Object X must exist" she took 20 points off because I didn't put "X Object must exist". The person next to me had their code exactly like mine and scored 60 points higher on that assignment. The mistakes she marked down for me were nowhere to be seen on his paper. The only difference is that she liked him and not me (I don't know why). Also I strongly recommend reading ahead because the practicums are usually over parts of the book that you may not have read. Honestly if you want to make a good grade in the class be her friend, if you want to know how to code focus on the book.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:2334 - Reading the reviews on here for Fry will make any prospective second-year computer science student freak out. I'm going to give some reasoned advice and tips for this class, and also a bit more of a reasoned perspective on Fry as a professor. First of all, this class will definitely be the most time-consuming of the computer science classes so far. I took this with data structures this year and managed an A in both courses, but you will have to make some sacrifices to your free time to succeed. Expect weekly homework assignments that consist of a written portion from book exercises as well as 1-3 coding assignments tacked on once you start programming in Assembly about 3-4 weeks in. If you take your time on these assignments and are meticulous about your work, meaning spend 5-10 hours or even more on each assignment depending on the assignment, you can achieve an A on the homeworks. I did not find her grading on the homework assignments to be ridiculous, in fact, even if my answer was mostly wrong on some written problems, I was often only docked a point here or there if I had ample work, meaning I was able to achieve some high A's on some assignments. Do not start these assignments a day or two before the due date or your work will be sloppy and unlikely to pass. If you expect to do this, I promise you will struggle to keep up in the course, as I saw many of my peers do. These are weekly assignments for a reason. Get them done on the weekend or as early as you can and refine them during the week that they're due if necessary. As for Fry's tests and quizzes, you have roughly one quiz per week. Quizzes are fast-paced timed examinations of your knowledge, and you don't know what day they will happen which encourages you to stay sharp on your knowledge. This is where doing your homework early comes in to play, as if you've done your homework over the weekend, you will be prepared for all the random quizzes because the knowledge should be fairly ready if you just spent 10 hours doing a homework over the material. As for tests, each one is fast-paced, much like the quizzes. All I can say is that if you have put time into the homeworks and have studied a reasonable amount, these should be fine. They're hard, but not impossible. This is where I want to address Fry's teaching and class structure. Most would say she is a horrible teacher and her class is designed to destroy you, but I think there is more nuance to this issue. Fry's in-class lectures are not amazing by any means. She meanders a bit in lecture and can spend a little too much time or too little on some topics. However, the major saving grace is that she offers video lectures that mirror her in-class lectures except they cut out all of her meandering. WATCH THE VIDEO LECTURES. I'm serious. The video lectures + reading the book chapter every week will guarantee that you have a strong grasp of the material come class-time, meaning the in-class lecture will become less important to your success in class. Once again, most of my peers did not take advantage of the video lectures or the book, and those that expect to just use the in-class lectures to keep up with the material will find themselves falling behind. Overall, no, this class is not the devil. Yes, this class is hard and time-consuming. For any of you reading this page as I was a year ago freaking out, you should only freak out if you aren't willing to put in the work. Fry's class has as much material and opportunity for you to succeed as you're willing to take. Should you be willing to be meticulous on the homeworks, watch the online lectures, and read the book weekly, you will survive and even thrive. If this doesn't sound like something you will do, well, maybe you should freak out, just to be real with you. Most people I know that didn't stay on top of assignments and materials either barely maintained a passing grade or maybe a B if they were lucky. TIPS: 1. Start homework when it is assigned. Stay a week ahead on the homeworks. 2. Watch the video lectures on the pace they're assigned. This will keep you ahead on the material. 3. Read the book on the pace it's assigned.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Comp Systems - This class shouldn't be as hard as it is. The material is pretty basic and the programs are not very hard. The grading is absolutely insane though and that will kill your grade. It is entirely possible that you will get a 50 on a program that completely works because it is "inefficient." Her definition of inefficient is never consistent though...sometimes it means using least registers, sometimes it means least generated code, and sometimes it means best run time :(  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:CSI 2334 - I like Fry as a person, not as a professor. She is the most strict grader out of all the profs I've had so far and the amount of workload this class offers is overwhelming at times. The project is not that bad if you know what tools to use, but is very unnecessary and time-consuming. Outside of class, she is very nice. In class, she likes to make it clear that she is the authoritative figure, talking down to some students and isn't afraid to tell you that she doesn't like your answer to a certain question. She definitely has her favorites, and how she selects them seems random. If any other professor teaches this course, I would take them instead. Professor Fry isn't the worst professor to take, but I definitely feel I deserve more than a C+ considering how much time and effort I put into studying and working on the programs.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:CSI 2334 - I cannot stress it enough that depending on the first impression you make, the professor will either be normal or hate you. This impression never changes throughout the semester. She appears to display signs of insecurity, compensating by liberally wielding her power as a professor. First impressions will influence your grades (the leniency/grading standard on all qualitative assessments in the class such as short answers, coding comments, etc...), the answers to questions provided in class/office hours/over email (detailed instructions/explanations vs "go back and read the chapter"), and expected workload/general disposition (understanding/encouragement towards existing efforts vs. the idea that you're not doing enough). Professor Fry is a good person, but thanks to how her impression of students literally affects their grades, I cannot recommend her as a teacher. How she determines "first impression" is unknown and seemingly random, but here is what I've gathered from observations and feedback from others (This involved comparing homework and receiving direct feedback). In the past, those who were visibly injured(crutches, broken arm, etc...), talked very little, failed to show outward signs of confidence, and/or were female generally obtained a positive first impression. On the other end, those who allowed her to know that they weren't Christian (if applicable), and/or those who talked too much (before, during, and after class) obtained a negative first impression. Note that these are only first impressions, so you can relax after the first week, just not too much. Also, the negative impressions is a bit random, I wasn't able to figure out what made people become targets. About the class, lecture videos are older lectures recorded on video, very good for taking notes/writing questions that you can ask in class. I'd recommend staying ahead on the videos so that you can start on homework early (since you haven't learned everything on the homework when it's assigned). The book is OK but necessary, it serves as a supplement to the lectures. The homework is less difficult and more time consuming, like math homework. The programs are in assembly, so you'll use new implementations with simpler programs. Tests involved a practicum and a written portion. Practicums are simplified versions of the programs and the written portion is similar to the quizzes/homework. She's usually clear about which sections/question types will appear on the test. tl;dr: Make a good first impression for roughly the first week (imagine a strict mom is judging you), then work like it's a normal class (coming to class, doing the work, occasionally asking questions).  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:CSI 2334 - Let me start out by saying, if you are taking intro to systems, you're screwed. For some reason, she is the only professor who teaches the class - and it is going to be one of the worst classes you are going to take. On the bright side, your performance in this class is completely arbitrary to how you will do in the rest of the major. Everyone talks about how she's such a nice person outside of the classroom, but those are the people that got on her nice side. I wish I could tell you the secret on how to do that, but unfortunately I was unable to figure it out (outside of having a sex change and becoming a woman, but then I would be forever reminded that prof Fry took away my manhood). All you learn from this class is how to use the debugger, and that the definition of efficiency is completely arbitrary. My only advice is, don't schedule her class as the last of your day - as it will promote alcoholism.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2017-07-05

Comments:CSI 1430 - Honestly, Professor Fry has both her advantages and disadvantages. First, yeah she grades unreasonably hard for an intro class, and at times, just flat-out unfairly. You just gotta accept that it's not enough to have a program that works...It has to be documented up to her incredibly high standard and all algorithms must be simplified fully, and for the sake of your grade, don't forget the function block comments....Even if you do all she verbally requests of you, she will still find something to take off for, so your program grades are going to be much lower than you expect every time. There's no point in trying to argue with her about grades, even if it's rightfully justified. She is not receptive to contrary ideas, so just do exactly as she says. Don't attempt to be too creative with how to handle the programs, just follow her advice and run with it. And Even if you think you've done all the comments you need, do more...This class will take up a lot of time, so manage it well. Take her advice and start early on everything. Staying consistent with starting early will make the programs, the reading, and the group projects so much less daunting. The course was structured somewhat differently this year in which we had a total of 9 practicums, usually weekly until the latter half of school when things slow down a little. Now, that being said, there are several advantages to taking Professor Fry, the first and most important being if you make it through this class (I say if, because honestly there were several times when I thought I was going to fail this class), you will come out knowing the material. Professor Fry is very receptive to hard work and she goes out of her way to give you every chance you need to succeed. She gives little extra credit projects that can cover for low grades here and there, and if you do all of them as I did, you will learn helpful things outside the scope of the course material that can help you on the exams. She is also in her office pretty much every morning except for Fridays (or should I say Fryday). GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. She is just sitting there with answers to your questions waiting for you. No she's not perfect, In fact there were several times when she was just flatout unhelpful during her office hours and leaves you with nothing but wasted time (don't expect her to help you debug your code, she is really only good at answering conceptual questions. Be explicit! Make sure she knows exactly what you're asking.), but it's definitely to your advantage to visit her every so often. Overall, I guess if you're the student who just wants to slide through this class, don't expect to make a good grade or get along with Professor Fry, but if you're a hard worker who demonstrates an interest in the course material, you may just make it.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2017-05-07

Comments:2334 - So I took this class not concurrently with data structures, so that was a definite advantage I had over most of the other people taking the class. This is a very time intensive course with a kinda rude (only in class-she's SUPER nice outside) professor, making lots of people uninterested in it. The material is actually pretty interesting and it is worth it to do everything she tells you: read the book, watch the videos, start early! You will not have enough time on the exams, just accept that now. There is no time to recheck any of your work so get good at doing things correctly the first time. I spent a lot of time studying for the weekly quizzes which may have been what saved my grade. The practicums are really easy and she does grade this class like an intro course where the final can replace your lowest exam. She also gives you lots of practice programs and the practicums are usually on that list. However, the final is about 10x harder than the other exams. I found that repetition is what helped me the most. So watching the videos and reading the book before she lectured was super helpful. Also, take the first assignment seriously b/c it is a hefty percentage for your final project. The project isn't too bad if you know what tools to use. Anyway, try to do well because this is definitely a class you do not want to take again.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2334 - Professor Fry deeply cares about the subject she teaches and is very knowledgeable about it. She is very passionate about her subject content. Given that, her explanations are always good but never great. Between her explanations and asking the PI lots of questions I have been able to understand the content fairly well. However, the class has been a considerable amount of work, which it should be, but the grading standards often feel overly harsh with little room for student error. Since it is my first time learning many of these concepts I have hard to work harder than in other classes and I am still achieving worse grades than in these other classes. Coming from a background of Honors classes (all As) and three previous computer science classes (B-, B, A), considering that I have learned so much and yet still have a C (and only just barely) has been very frustrating to me. I hope to end up with a B before the class ends but I feel like this is too unrealistic an expectation due to the grading methods and and high standards required, which for practical purposes demand near perfection. Professor Fry will ask you to do a considerable amount of work but if you fail to conform to her exact methods then you WILL get points taken off. Lots. She is a nice person but is not really the teaching type. I feel like her research would be pretty high quality, but not sure who would want to work with her.  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2016-05-23

Comments:2334 - This will be the first class where I'm not going to hate on the professor just because I got a C. I'm going to be honest here - Fry has a terrible reputation within the Computer Science department. Just reading the reviews on here and hearing other people laugh at me when I told them I was signed up for Fry made me absolutely terrified of the woman. I got into the class and she wasn't that bad. She's a decent teacher and personally I found the material interesting once we got a few weeks into the class. You have two exams with practicums, and a final exam. You have an easy final project and weekly homework(easy but takes FOREVER). The class is a lot of busy work. You're going to be learning Assembly mostly and then how things are stored in memory, stuff like that. It's not difficult by any means but it's very complex and there are a lot of details to remember. Once you get around to taking the tests you'll find that all those little details are very easy to forget. She isn't a bad teacher, and she's a very friendly person. I went by her office several times and she was always very nice and helpful. She cares about her students and she always has friendly interactions with them, but if you get on her bad side she will be very rough with you. My only problem with Fry is the grading - I don't think my grade represents the scope of knowledge I have learned from this class, and it especially doesn't demonstrate my proficiency relative to the rest of my class. The grading is absolute garbage at times - she takes off massive amounts of points for simple things in your programs, and massive amounts of points for wrong answers on homework(like I said, little details). Use 4 bytes too many in your code? You might be looking at 5-10% of your grade gone for efficiency. Stuff like that. Not a bad teacher, probably doesn't deserve the bad reputation she has, but her grading is crap. You'll get through this class - not difficult, just a lot of work.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2016-05-10

Comments:CSI 1430 - Before we talk about the class, Professor Fry is a fantastic person. At the beginning of the semester, she offered an office hours appointment for people who knew nothing about programming coming in. I took her up on that, and wouldn't have done as well in the class without it. She also gives hugs. Teaching-wise, she expects you to have read outside of class; if you haven't learned Comp Sci before, the book is your new best friend. She also has high expectations, and wants your code to be efficient. You're probably going to hate her multiple times throughout the semester, if not constantly. So, she's great to know, but if you take the class, you'll have to learn from your mistakes and deal with consistently low programming assignment grades (small portion of overall grade) and other trials.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2015-12-13

Comments:1430 - I should start off by saying she's a genuinely good person, and one of the most professionally qualified professors at Baylor. As far as teaching goes, though, she could not be worse. Piles on work that she never tells you how to do - even if you ask after it's due. Grades her tests in a way that ensures lowest grade possible. Makes her class more about getting a good grade than actually learning. Unapproachable about problems with the class. Terrible, terrible teacher. Avoid at all costs - hint: you can't in this department. But still try.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2015-11-30

Comments:CSI-1430 - By far the worst teacher you can get, avoid her at all costs. She's a nice lady, but who gives a shit about that anymore. If you want to have your dreams crushed take this teacher, her bullshit grading will make you want to break something or cry. I am not joking when I tell you that she is the reason my semester was not enjoyable, I have no idea how we have let her continue "teaching" I quote the word because she never actually does it. I put so much time into this class, at one point I neglected my other classes and the grades in those classes suffered, and I still did poorly because she is an impossible grader. If you aren't the type of person to go hunting, avoid her, because if you want to meet with her, you have to track her, and then when you do meet with her, she only helps you 50% of the time, and I'm being generous with my percentage. Overall terrible teacher. Take booth.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2350 - Dean Fry has a really, really bad rep as a teacher in the CS department, but I didn't find her all that bad for Discrete. Granted, I'm not pleased about that B+ after I had A's on the first two tests and on most of the quizzes, but I also didn't do the homework too reliably. People keep complaining about her tests, but she does allow you to bring in an 8.5x11 sheet of paper cheat sheet for each test, including the final, so if you're too lazy to write out what you'll need (hint: the review is VERY, VERY similar to the test), then that's on you. The quizzes can be a smack in the face, especially as their average replaces a test grade whether you want it to or not, but she's really just checking to see if you did the reading (I didn't, more often than not, but still did pretty well on quizzes). Don't sleep in class - or if you do, listen to the voice recording she posts. I didn't try too hard in the class, and I came out fine. Perhaps the upper level classes are worse? Regardless, I would say she's about an average teacher for Discrete, and she is helpful in that she takes plenty of time to answer any questions you may have.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2013-01-14

Comments:CSI 2334 - Overall just a terrible teacher and grader. She grades for efficiency, but when you only have an hour to write two assembly language programs you're not going to be as efficient as someone who writes code in this bullshit language every day. If your program is working, but inefficient, you get half credit. If it's not working but a lot of the code is correct you get next to no credit. If there is ever another professor who teaches this class, take them over Fry. She is, by far, the worst teacher I've had my whole life.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:Intro. Comp. Sys. - The truth about this horrible woman is this... When it comes to anything none school related she is the sweetest person and easy to get along with. But don't be fooled by this double sided wench. I am being perfectly clear in saying i hope she reads this review so she can realize that she is not qualified to be a teacher. She is ruining those students dreams who wish to pursue their carriers in computer science by draining the life our of them. Her teaching ability, if it must be called that, is that of a 10 year olds with ADD. There is none what so ever. It consist of the first few days of her "teaching" easy material, then turns into story, and gibberish lectures that covers 10% of the material she expects you to learn for the week. So basically there is no teaching to be done by this woman. It is all read the book and teach yourself if you want to survive, but I go to baylor im not paying alot for me to teach myself, so teach me. And her grading... is just as bad as her "teaching" she grades expecting perfection. She wants code to be as efficient as possible and if it isn't there goes half or more of your points. so basically if you aren't her your not perfect. This person doesn't get that people think differently and write differently and I can understand trying to make the best code but dont' grade people like that if you don't TEACH IT YOURSELF. Don't you dare ever ever take this teacher if you wish to pursue your dream because she will crush it. But i know she will amount to nothing for myself and everyone else who knows her knows she is trash and will get what is coming to her. But i still wish her the best in changing her ways for everyone deserves a chance, but she has no more respect from me. I just want her to leave and never teach at baylor again. So again bottom line, cannot teach, cannot grade, oo and when you go see her after class, she talks to you like your a liar, and an idiot and doesn't even show up half the time the next day for help when she said she would. GET RID OF THIS DISGRACE BAYLOR.  - Grade In Class:F

Date: 2012-05-10

Comments:CSI 2334 (Comp. Systems) - Fry's inability to explain concepts clearly was twice as evident in Intro to Computer Systems as it was in Discrete. Unfortunately, she's the only option for this class as far as I know, unless you take it in the spring, in which case I don't know. Once again she's a wonderful person, who is SO helpful outside of class, but she grades with "the red pen of death" and wants your code to be as efficient as possible. The class is about 10 homework assignments, all painfully long, anywhere from 2-5 hours, so start early and spread it out; a weekly Friday quiz, which usually is fairly difficult so be sure to study for them; and then two tests and a final. The final can replace whichever test helps the most, and so can count for up to 65% of your final grade. Do well on it. Altogether, it's a tough class, very time consuming, and if you're taking it with Data Structures, be prepared to work hard and contemplate killing yourself multiple times.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2012-01-02

Comments:CSI 2350 (Discrete) - Fry has a pretty bad rep within the CS dept, and it's somewhat deserved. She's definitely not the best teacher, although not absolutely terrible. She's able to explain basic concepts, but is very scatterbrained and has trouble explaining the more advanced topics in Discrete. Her lectures seem like more of a review over what you should be reading in the textbook. So read the textbook. Duh. Teaching ability aside, she is EXTREMELY helpful, and definitely wants you to do well in her class. If you get to know her outside of class, she's unbelievably nice, willing to work with you, and just a great professor to know anyway, after all she is a CS dean. And she prays for us before tests and quizzes. Whether you're religious or not, it's nice, encouraging, and it says something about her care for her students. As far as the courseload, the tests are difficult not because of the content, but because the quantity she puts on the test. Typically she does not give enough time, so be prepared to be able to do problems quickly. There is a two question quiz every class period over the previous lecture, and these are free 100s if you pay attention. The final wasn't terrible, and all homework is optional.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2334 - Please do not take her, well you have no choice. This woman is hell! hell! Let me put it in-perspective for you. I made an 83 on the first exam, a 70 on the second the third highest grade. and made a D in the class! Just a D on bearweb, no idea what my grade on the final was or anything else to show my final score was put on blackboard. No shit this is hands down awful!!  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2010-12-16

Comments:2350, 2334 - I took two classes with Dean Fry. I hope this is the last I ever see of this woman. She cannot teach if her life depended on it. She grades ridiculously hard (for HW and Quizzes). We had weekly quizzes that became just obnoxious. The book wasn't much help for her tests or quizzes. She clearly does not know the material in either class. She is a nice woman, only outside of her teaching room. In 2350, I was certain I would make a D in her class and could only get a C if I got an A on the final. I walked out of that final thinking that was the hardest test I'd ever taken, and I failed that class. I walked out with a C. So she does understand to an extent that her grading is preposterous and I'm sure in her head an 'F' = C and a 'C' = B because otherwise there is no possible way ANYONE could get an A. In 2334, you code has to be extremely efficient to receive full points. Yet, she couldn't write the code if she wanted to. She can't even adjust the font size correctly on Visual Studio. How does this woman teach? Oh yeah, she is the Assistant Dean. No matter how many times I write terrible things in her teaching review, she still comes back every year and is completely unavoidable for any comp sci student at Baylor. Good Luck.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:CSI 2334 - Discrete Structures - Avoid this teacher at all costs. But good luck with that, since she's the Dean of Computer Science. Let's start with teaching ability. She is absolutely the most condescending teacher I have ever had. When we are learning simple material, she acts like we're 8. When tougher material appears, she does such a horrible job explaining it (because she hardly knows the material) that almost nobody follows what she's doing, and then acts like it's the easiest thing in the world. She is one of the toughest graders I've had. By tough, I mean she takes off ridiculous and inconsistent amounts of points, counts correct answers wrong, and getting points back for correct answers is an almost impossible battle to win. She may take off 10 points for an incorrect answer on one person's homework, but 15 on someone else's for the exact same answer. For tests, quizzes, and sometimes homework, a great deal of mind reading is required. Many of her questions are highly ambiguous in what they're asking, with at least 3 different correct answers, of which she will only accept the answer to her interpretation of the question. Other questions have clear meanings if you interpret them using standard english convetions and grammar, so you won't even bother asking her what the question means, but she will still assert that the question had a different meaning. Only when the entire class complains will she sometimes give points for the other correct answers. On homework, she might decide to deduct points from the entire class for following the directions instead of answering the questions in a completely different way, which she never said to do. As far as availability goes, I don't know why she bothers to have official office hours, because she hardly ever sticks to them. She is oftentimes half an hour late, even to scheduled meetings. This includes class as well. Overall, this is a great teacher to have, if you want to make your life miserable and frustrating.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3336 - This was my 3rd class with Professor Fry and this is just fair warning for anyone who had for an intro class. Cindy Fry is an engineer, and in high level compsci classes like this one that fact shines brighter than the sun. She did not know the material, at all. She would incorrectly solve her own assignments and count off if yours did not match hers. Every class consisted of her coming to class late, writing broken code, ignoring all questions (you can only hear "you should look that up later" before you realize that she just doesn't have the slightest clue"), and jumping off topic in any way possible. Her tests are not in any way a good measure of your knowledge of the course. On more than one occasion, the "right" answer to a question was proved to be wrong and sometimes she'd ask a question that was never talked about in class or in the readings or had anything to do with the course. Upon these occasions, we were told that we should have found it on wikipedia. The biggest problem overall was her inability to admit when she was wrong. I heard it was only her second time to teach the course but she was awful and unqualified and I have a hard time believing that the department was not aware of this. Seriously, this was hands down the worst class I've ever had through my entire education and it has changed my perspective on Cindy Fry forever. Again, this is after having her twice for intro to compsci and intro to systems which I thought she did fine in. I don't think she's teaching the class again, but if she is then wait for Sturgill or anyone with an actual compsci degree to take the course.   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1430 - Very, very good prof to get to know. After you talk to her a couple times outside of class, she'll give you a lot of help on anything, not necessarily limited to course material. I owe a lot of my success dealing w/ Baylor bureaucracy to Cindy Fry. As for her class, well, I had CSI in high school, so this was review for me. I'd say she does a good job of explaining everything (though to be fair, sometimes it takes a second explanation, or just some careful work on the weekly programs). If you put in a little extra work on each program, you'll find that the class is a breeze; don't just do the assignment to get it in--really learn the stuff, try stuff that's not assigned--if you don't learn it, you'll regret it the following week. If you learn it well, each week will seem easy. The tests and quizzes are dressed up with terms, but nothing you can't learn from the lectures or figure out from the test itself, if you worked on the programs.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1430 - She's a great professor, very prepared to class each time. Just follow her lecture, make sure you do the homework, and review the quizes (one quiz every week), it should be ok. I learned a great deal in this class! Highly recommend her!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3336 - Secretly, Cindy Fry doesn't know the material. She'll put on a big smile, act bubbly, and hand you back ridiculously-graded assignments... 2 weeks after she promised to return them. She'll tell you exactly what she doesn't plan on putting on the test, but you can almost guarantee those topics to be a significant portion of the exam. She never apologizes if she makes a mistake... Getting her to correct a grade is a nearly impossible battle to win- even when it's justly defended. Her advice during one of our review sessions, "If you get nothing else out of the class, you'll be able to teach yourself." Truer words were never spoken. This would even seem appealing to some students, except that the book we were required to buy is so mired with poor grammar and incorrect input/output examples, that teaching yourself is frustrating and ultimately hopeless. A third of the class is supposed to be devoted to learning PERL, yet we spent less than 2 weeks at the end of the semester skimming over the very, very basics. She just doesn't seem to care if her students actually pass the class or even learn the material.   - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1430 - GREAT TEACHER. fun, high spirited, funny, smart, helpful. best teacher at Baylor so far. tests aren't are so tough if u study moderately. her lectures are funny and she goes over the information enough so you can understand it. highly reccommend her. you definately won't regret her as a teacher.   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:CSI 2334 - I'm glad I had her for this course! The course isn't a cakewalk, but she knows the material and is very helpful! Make sure you work until you understand it and you'll do fine on the tests. Highly recommended for this course!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1430 - Ms. Fry is the nicest teacher at Baylor. This is a rough course regardless of teacher especially if you haven't had any previous experience in C++. Fry is an excellent teacher. She does tend to have pop quizes at least every week or two. The weekly programs aren't too bad, but study hard for the tests. If you ever have any trouble...go to her office. She is extremely friendly and always willing to help you. I'd definately recommend her, especially if you're a computer science major.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Multiple - I have taken multiple classes with Dr. Fry, and I think she is a great teacher. She assigns a lot of work and her tests are faily hard, but she will make sure you learn the material.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2334 - Mrs. Fry is an cool lady and an equally cool teacher. However, this class was no cake walk. In order to do well, you had to keep up with the readings and assignments. She is very willing to help you out though, when things get fuzzy. Her tests require you to know the material very well. Overall was a good learning experience. I recommend.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:CSI 2334 - So far, Fry is definitely my favorite computer science teacher. She's not the teacher to pick if you want an easy A because she assigns a lot of work, but she makes her lectures easy to stay awake and teaches the material very well.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:I have had her for 2 different classes and she has a very effective teaching style. She is also pretty enjoyable to have in class and her tests and quizes are not too hard.

Comments:helpful, but really not a good teacher, a good number of those i had the class with are retaking it this semester...

Comments:High reading & lab workload...but if you want to do CompSci- take her-you'll end up learning more. Fun lectures help with the pain. Pay attention to prog style. Don't fall behind or the tests will eat your lunch.

Comments:She has a great personality and is very entertaining in lecture. As soon as she starts getting on your good side she gives you an exam from hell and you immediately hate her. But after the next class you love her again. NOT an easy way out. You will learn a LOT and most likely ENJOY the semester though!

Comments:Is a hard teacher, yet she makes you learn. If you are looking for an easy way out, then she is not the right professor. If you want to learn, then take her.
