*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:2301 - Dr. Hinojsa is one of the BEST great texts professors you can take! You can tell she enjoys discussing the books we read and tries to make class engaging as well as informational. As any Great Text class there is a LOT of reading. It can range from 20-100 pages for each class, just depends on the text you are reading and it is manageable. She gives 10 random quizzes throughout the semester on the content of the text but they are not difficult and spark notes can get you through most of them. There are two essays one on The Odyssey and one on The Aeneid. She is not a very harsh grader and will give helpful feedback if you just come and talk to her. There are also graded discussions (seminars) for each of the texts usually 1-2 per text. If you talk at least three times your grade is at a 90 where you can then build up with a higher score. There is a midterm and a final about the texts but Dr. Hinojosa provides a study guide of exactly what you need to know for each and the format of each of them . It's a mix of mcq and frq nothing too difficult. Additionally, for the two essays she allows you to use a week suspension on one of them without any penalty, She drops your lowest quiz grade and even gave out a free 100 to the class at some point. I would definitely recommend taking her for great texts if you get the chance because she is super sweet and truly cares! If she sees your trying she will reward you for that. A true gem In the Great Text Department. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2301 - Dr. Hinojosa is a great professor and is very knowledgeable about Great Texts. The class had 10 reading quizzes, of which she dropped one, and there is an insane amount of work. Beyond the crazy amount of reading, there are two essays, a midterm exam, and a final exam. She is decently strict on grading the writing, but is very helpful and is always willing to give advice about our essay topics. There are also "Quote Journals" that require additional work and are usually due on the days of the Socratic Seminars that we had. Overall, a very labor-intensive class but a great professor that I would definitely recommend. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:GTX 2301 - H - Dr. Hinojosa is a very wonderful professor, and she really cares about the student and is passionate about the subject. As with all the GTX classes, there is an insane amount of reading, which you probably will not do all of it every class. There were 12 reading quizzes which were 10 multiple choice questions that were randomly given throughout the semester and 2 of them were dropped. They were pretty surface level and you could definitely get a solid 8/10 on each with just using Sparknotes, but keep in mind that there are not many grades in this class, and you need a 94 for an A. There were two papers throughout the semester - one on the Odyssey, and one on the Aeneid - and she is very easy grader. Just show that you are trying on the papers and listen to all her suggestions and you can easily get a high A on the papers. She also has discussions which you really only need to talk 3 times in order to get a good grade. I got lazy during the middle of the semester and ended up getting like a 93.67 in the class, but she put my grade as an A on the report card without even requesting her to curve it. She is a super nice person, and even though I felt like the discussions weren't at a very high level, the class was still enjoyable and I would definitely recommend you take her. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:FYS 1399 - I took Professor Hinojosa for my Honors FYS and absolutely loved her and this class. The books are interesting and the quizzes are easy. Besides the chapter quizzes and quote journals, there are only 3 papers all year that aren't too challenging and 1 super easy oral report. She also gives extensions on the papers if you need them and offers a lot of extra credit. Overall Professor Hinojosa is amazing and genuinely cares about her students and I would take her again in a heart beat - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2301 - Can't explain enough how amazing Dr. Hinojosa is. For those of you looking for a breeze through great text, she is for you. For those of you looking to learn and debate things and observe different perspectives on different issues, she is for you. Dr. Hinojosa is just the sweetest and down-to-earth professor I've met. She's very gracious and understanding. Her class consists of several pop quizzes that are not hard at all if you read the books. She also enjoys discussions and frequently have the class gather to debate different topics arising from the books. There's also a couple essays we're required to write. She's not a harsh grader: I turned in a very trashy paper but she still gave me a 90. She's also very understanding of the fact we're all taking so many other harder classes and tries her best to ease the workload for us. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2301 - GOD BLESS this woman. She grades so generously, and tries to make the reading and discussions interesting. You have a reading due every class, but most of the books are on Sparknotes or Shmoop. She gives out 14 random quizzes, and she drops your lowest 2. There are only 2 tests and 2 essays for this class, each worth 15% of your overall grade. NGL, I bsed my way through this class and still made a B+. she's wonderful - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:GTX 2301H - Dr. Hinojosa was a very nice professor! She was always well prepared and you can tell she cares about what she's teaching. I was also able to garner a lot of good information from her about some more difficult texts. The workload is very doable and she outlines the requirements for the papers clearly. She didn't seem like that hard of a grader, and if you just do the reading and take notes on what she says in class, it should be pretty easy to get an A. Overall, I would highly recommend taking her for Great Texts if you can. - Grade In Class:A
