Comments:4301 - Immunology- Dr. Dean is the worst professor I have ever had at Baylor. She is rude and fake. She will stare over your shoulder, call you out for things in class, and not apologize when she is in the wrong. She is all attitude and disrespect. Her tests and quizzes are ridiculously hard. Her lectures going in circles. Avoid at all costs.  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2024-02-07

Comments:1306 - I would not recommend Dr. Dean as a teacher. Her exams and quizzes are poorly worded and designed more to trick students than to measure their understanding of the material. She writes the sort of questions that have multiple answer choices that could go either way, but she only accepts one of them. She also ask questions that have multiple parts to them. She knew about this issue and said she "try's to trick students so the future doctors are smart". We sped through all of our material in the first few months of the year, only to spend the last weeks learning things we didn't need to know. She tends to repeat general ideas while glossing over small details, and then asks about those details on the exams. Initially, she comes across as very bubbly and friendly, however, as you get to know her, it becomes clear that this is just an act. If I could go back in time after knowing everything I know now I would NOT take her again. She does not round up any, I finished with a 89.97 and she refused to give me and A. She will flat out tell you that no one can touch her job because she is department head and so she can do whatever she wants.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2023-11-14

Comments:1306 - I had her 8 am class so you know it was a hike to get there on time. A lot of people will argue that they disliked her class because all the exams were purely off of the slide show presentation. yEa that is very true. But she even tells you at the start of the course to PREVIEW that slides prior to class so you know what you're getting into. I noticed myself enjoying everything learned in this course, but that wasn't the key to my success. I began using her chart method (if you take her, you'll know), and I began taking cornell notes after class. The cornell notes enhanced my understanding, and once I finished up my own studying, I would meet up with a friend and we would explain the concept to each other to solidify our understanding. In short terms; active recall will be your best friend in this class. She uses lots of anaologies to help you remember stuff, so I began making up my own on my free time to help. Overall, take her if you're ready to put good study skills to use.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1306 - Dr. Dean was an excellent professor and super energetic and fun to listen to at 8am. However her workload is insane!!! It wasn't extremely difficult but it is just a ton of work. She also have 6 unit tests throughout the semester (so like a test every other week) and each test would be over almost 600 slides that you would need to memorize word for word. Her tests also started pretty easy but quickly got much harder. Tests are worth 60% of your grade, the final is 30%, assignments are 5% and attendance in also 5%. If you miss class for any reason (you could literally be on your death bed) you will get points taken of for missing class and if you miss a test she will not give you a retake under ANY circumstances. If you are good at memorizing things quickly I would take her class but otherwise you should probably stay away. She also only does office hours on zoom which sucks.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1306 - I am going to be so honest when I say please avoid taking this class unless you are an absolute God at memorizing 100 slide word for word power points for her exams. Her class is SOLELY exam based, where you have to take 6 exams with NO DROP (each 10% of your grade) with a cumulative 360 point final (30% of your grade) at the end. She does offer a 10% easy grade as long as you do her participation (super easy and takes no time) and show up to her class which was an 8 am. this means that you have to put all of your focus into studying for her exams, sounds easy right? NO. I thought that for the first few weeks because her exams started out pretty manageable, but they get progressively harder.. and harder.. and harder... and EFFING IMPOSSIBLE TO STUDY EVERY PIECE OF INFORMATION. What sucks the most is that you can do amazing on every final and mess up one and it brings your grade down immediately and you will spend the rest of the semester putting every brain cell in your body to work trying to bring that grade up again. And do not get me started on the final exam. Might as well count your blessings. She will "shorten" down the slides but you will still end up having to memorize roughly 700+ slides, and I wish I was exaggerating. DO not get me wrong though, she is such a nice lady to talk to and super enthusiastic! Her class just sucks:) Proceed into this class with caution, and my 2 pieces of advice if you decide to still take her as a teacher are 1. have someone quiz you on every single word of every slide for every exam, and 2. START OUT STRONG AND GET GOOD GRADES FROM THE BEGINNING SO YOU ARE NOT STRESSING OVER HER FINAL.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1306 - Dr.Dean comes off as a very happy and energetic person but honestly she's so rude and will make you feel dumb, her office hours are only online and once a week by appointment which makes it hard. She uses the clicker thing but for some reason if you use your mobile app she will take points off. She does crazy hard exams that say only 36 questions but have like 5 in each one of them No drops, make ups or extra credit... JUST DONT TAKE HER  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2023-04-26

Comments:4301 - Dr. Dean is a very nice and upbeat professor, however do not take this class if you are looking for something easy. Quizzes and exams were very hard, so if you want to do well on those, be sure to study consistently. On the bright side, your two lowest quizzes will be dropped so if you bomb a couple, you'll be alright. At the end of the semester she does application activities which are easy 100's and are a good grade boost. Overall, immunology was a very interesting class, and Dr. Dean's personality helped make the class more enjoyable, however the material is very difficult and requires a lot of studying outside of class to get a good grasp of it, so if you're looking for an easy A, I'd look elsewhere.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIO 4301 - I would not recommend Dr. Dean as a teacher. Her exams and quizzes are poorly worded and designed more to trick students than to measure their understanding of the material. She writes the sort of questions that have multiple answer choices that could go either way, but she only accepts one of them. Other times, she will write questions that just don't make any sense or don't give you enough information to make an informed choice. She also loves to ask questions that have multiple parts to them. I don't know if she will change this for future classes, but for us, these questions were all-or-none. For instance, if we got one part wrong out of a 10 part question, we would get zero points for that question. These questions can be worth many points and you can quickly find yourself getting 60s and 70s on these assessments as a result of missing a single part of these questions. She knew about this issue and somehow felt justified in keeping the grading system this way for us. In addition to her already poorly worded questions, this grading style made it pretty hard to pull off an A. On the bright side, some part of me thinks she is aware of her below-average assessment skills because she gave us a good amount of extra credit, way more than I was expecting. There is about a month and a half of learning material that isn't going to be on any sort of exam or quiz. Personally, I spent this time studying for the final, so that was nice. However, it did annoy me that we sped through all of our material in the first few months of the year, only to spend the last weeks learning things we didn't need to know. Instead, I would have rather had her space out the chapters over longer periods of time so that we could better learn the material that mattered. Additionally, Dr. Dean's teaching style can be condescending at times and she does not effectively explain the material. She tends to repeat general ideas too much while glossing over small details, and then asks about those details on the exams. Initially, she comes across as very bubbly and friendly, however, as you get to know her, it becomes clear that this is just an act. This inconsistency in her behavior can make it difficult to build a positive working relationship with her. It's important to be aware of this aspect of her personality when interacting with her. If I could go back in time after knowing everything I know now (even about all of the extra credit), I would NOT take her again.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2023-01-13

Comments:biology 1306 - Please do not take her. She is the sweetest person at baylor but do your GPA a favor. I could not for the life of me get a good grade on her tests if I did not memorize the chapters.  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2022-12-15

Comments:1306 - Dr. Dean is a great person who tries to be very helpful. However, these reviews are pretty deceiving below. She has entirely changed her class for Bio 2 which involves 6 exams, and not a single drop. Unless you can memorize a total of 500+ slides per exam, which will be every 2 weeks, I would take another teacher. Her final exam consisted of a 1000 slide review, which you had to memorize word for word to pass. If extremely dense word-for-word memorization is hard for you, I would recommend another professor.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2022-11-03

Comments:4426 - I have had Dr. Dean for histology and bio 2. Her class is anything but easy but she makes it worth it. If you put in the work you will make an A because she never tries to trick you. The amount of information to memorize is a lot but it makes you really know the material. I have found this class to be the most rewarding and as long as you aren't taking anything else thats super hard you should be fine. Dr. Dean is super energetic and really cares about her students. Tests and quizzes are completely based on your ability to memorize the powerpoint. Overall an excellent teacher and person and would take her again in a heartbeat.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2021-06-11

Comments:Bio 2 - I was IN THE HOSPITAL and she gave me a C due to a couple missed assignments so that I would not be able to move on to genetics that semester. She intentionally did this and I was within reasonable rounding range (0.4 points away). I cannot believe how fake she is, she acts energetic and happy but if you somehow find her in her office she is one of the most inconsiderate professors at Baylor.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2021-06-07

Comments:4426 (Histo) - First off, an 89 in this class needs to be illegal. I think that Dr. Dean is the fairest biology professor in the department. She gives a lot of information and you have to stay on top because her pace is fast. She is really fair and she works with students. Her final is CRAZY. Just study the lectures! She is the queen of multiple multiples.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2021-05-10

Comments:1306 - I took Dr. Dean online. Dr. Dean is extremely energetic and watching her lectures is fun. However, her exams are pretty difficult and my main piece of advice would be to CHART! Chart all the information (like she recommends) and it makes exams much much easier. Make charts as you review her powerpoints and you're golden. It's a difficult class, but doable. Good luck!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2021-05-10

Comments:1306 - Dr. Dean is really sweet and has a super fun personality! Her lectures are a LOT of information, but she doesn't use the textbook at all so I liked that all we needed to do was review the lecture slides. She seems like she has a lot of responsibilities but still makes time for her students and is really fun to talk to.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2021-05-10

Comments:1305 - What a mean person. She acts like she is the happy go lucky type in class but beware of going to her office with questions or concerns. She does not believe in a personal life or issues outside of her class, and will not accomodate anything however extreme it may be. I would never in my life take this professor please for your GPA's sake STAY AWAY!!!!  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2021-01-11

Comments:BIO 1306 - I just finished the class, and I cried because I was so happy it was over. Dr. Dean is extremely enthusiastic about this class and she seems like an amazing person in general. The whole class was online this semester. There is SO MUCH material you have to learn for this class. Her powerpoints are straight forward and she explains them pretty well. If you memorize every. single. powerpoint. you will get an A. Also her tests are majority matching terms, functions, etc but there are more answers than questions and she tries to trick you on the tiniest of details. Make sure to read every question all the way through. She also had small participation and attendance assignments that were really easy to do, if you remember to do them. My biggest complain is she had an exam every other Saturday morning at 9am so I spent half of my Friday nights this semester cramming for the exams. However, there is a pandemic so I wasn't doing much anyways. Overall, I recommend this class if you are good at pure memorization.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-12-05

Comments:1306 - Dr.Dean is very high energy like others have written. She really wants everyone to do well and she was so helpful during the transition to online. This class is mainly memorizing her powerpoints. The textbook is unnecessary. Her tests were straightforward and participation is key in her class. Overall would definitely recommend!! She's great!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-06-07

Comments:1306 - I loved Dr. Dean's class! Way better than my last semester prof for sure! Go over the powerpoints thoroughly before every test and make sure you know every detail; even little diagrams and labels could be on the exam. Overall, she adapted very well during the Covid semester, and I really enjoyed her class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-05-16

Comments:1306 - Very energetic professor so class was never dull. 90% of your grade depends on tests, and she doesn't drop any, so it's important to do well on all of them. Her tests are mostly information off her powerpoints, so studying them a week before the tests will help you get a good grade. There is a lot of information to sort out so make sure not to get behind on anything. Her SI is great and prepares you well for her exams. Not an easy class, but definitely doable and enjoyable if you take Dr.Dean!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Histology - (Covid19 semester) Dr. Dean has tons of energy and genuinely loves teaching!!! She will make you excited about Histology. Her notes and lectures are DENSE but it is all important info. You will be amazed at how much you will learn in this class. It will prepare you greatly for medical/PA school. You really do need to know every little detail for exams. She has tons of quizzes so you are forced to constantly be studying. I recommend using Anki to study. She transited to online learning pretty well during the pandemic.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-05-06

Comments:1306 - Dr. Dean is incredibly energetic and excited about everything she teaches. For her course, you do not need to touch a textbook; however, in order to be successful you must memorize every word on her powerpoints. They are very straightforward and are word for word from her powerpoints. Pay close attention to the wording of her tests. If you go talk to her, she will remember you and is willing to help you in anything you need both inside and outside the classroom.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-12-28

Comments:1306 - Dr. Dean is so energetic its literally unbelievable. However, this makes her class fun and somewhat interesting to pay attention in. Her tests are the absolute most straight forward tests I've ever taken. Never touched the textbook, if you know what her powerpoint say you can get an A on every test.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-12-12

Comments:1306 - Dr. D is extremely animated! She is very funny, kind, and passionate about what she does. She offers so many opportunities for extra credit, quiz points, and really cares for your ability to learn strategically. That being said, if you don't put in the effort to take those opportunities, study the material she emphasizes, or go to the seminars, you will probably fail. But this is Big Girl College now, you are going to need to put in a lot of effort regardless. Dr. Dean is a very busy woman so her office hours arent always as available as other profs, but if you email her, she does her best to work with you. In conclusion, Dr. D3 is AMAZING, but expect the same effort you put in to be the same average reflected in your grade.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2019-11-18

Comments:Bio II - Lectures are so boring and pointless, literally nobody listens or just leaves right after quizzes (which are impossible because there are like 10 choices for one question) Powerpoints are vague but study those points in the book, pay attention to her in class examples bc she loooves those. The worst thing about this class besides her lack of clarity are her tests. The material isn't even hard if you read the book but her test questions are so vague and weirdly worded. She admits there are sometimes more than one right answer, i guess she just grades by which one she likes more! Test averages for the class are most always below failing which says a lot about her teaching. She isn't any help in office hours either.I have always love biology but this class made me hate it, take someone else if u can. She's nice tho  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2019-08-14

Comments:4426 - If you are thinking about taking Histology just to knock out an upper-level credit or you think it will be fun, try to find something easier. This class was by far my most time consuming upper-level bio class. However, if you have to take it and you want the A, I suggest dedicating like 2 hours before every lecture to thoroughly go over the material until you think you know everything, then another 2 hours afterwards to make your own study material, whether it be quizlet or a doc or a condensed powerpoint that makes sense to you (which I found to be most effective.) Then one more hour to go over material to memorize every detail before each QUIZ. For the test... pray. I liked to make practice tests for myself and go over my condensed powerpoints. Dr. Dean is a great prof so go in and see her as much as you can. This is a difficult class though, so buckle up. An A is possible if you keep a responsible schedule and don't mess up on the tests. But you will be proud to walk out with a B, and satisfied with a C if it so happens to go that way. No one gets through this class without tremendous effort.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2019-05-19

Comments:1306 - The tests are challenging, but you don’t even have to look at the book. Her tests are straight off the powerpoints. You do need to memorize EVERYTHING. She’s very nice and energetic and LOVES teaching. Make friends with her, she’s great.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-05-17

Comments:1306 - This class requires lots of effort. Memorize the powerpoints and in class examples. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS and get to know her! She is super easy to become friends with and wants you to do well. Don't be discouraged, put the time into studying in advance and fully memorizing the details of the powerpoints! GOOD LUCK, you can do this!!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-05-14

Comments:1302 - This class seems difficult when you're just sitting in class listening to her talk about plants... but her exams are straight off of her power point, so an A is very doable and easy at that if you just read the PowerPoints a few days before the exam. At the end of the semester she ended up replacing my lowest exam grade with my final exam grade. clicker quizzes are random and pretty much every day and just count as participation so as long as you take them you'll get an A on your quiz average at the end. her syllabus says she grades them but I got many questions wrong throughout the semester and got full points. SHE GIVES SO MANY EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES ITS INSANE. if you don't take advantage of them, that's your problem, I think there was a max you could do but either way THEY HELP!!! it could make a difference between a B+ and an A.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-05-13

Comments:BIO1306 - Dr. Dean is the only prof I would wake up at 8 am for! She is lively and energetic, and teaches exactly what is on her powerpoints. I never touched the text book in this class, and did no worse than a 90 on each test. She has no quizzes worth grades, but she does have clicker quizzes that factor into your participation grade. If you take notes directly off her powerpoint and study those at least 5 days before the test, you will get an A in her class. Test are all multiple choice.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-05-10

Comments:1306 - This class isn't easy, but Dr. Dean is really great. I made a bad grade on a test so thought it was impossible to make an A but realized if you memorize the powerpoints you end up doing well. Its a lot of work but Dr. Dean is really fun and I will miss her next semester. If you're willing to put in the work take her - the tests are at least predictable but not easy.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-05-10

Comments:1306 - Dr. Dean’s class is fair. Her tests come directly from her powerpoints. If you study them and know them very well you will make a good grade. She does go through the slides quickly but that is because there is a large amount of information to cover. Again, study the powerpoints. EVERYTHING on them is fair game.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-04-19

Comments:1306 - Not going to lie, I struggled in this class. 1306 is a hard class because it is simply information that nobody wants to learn or study. That said, Dr. Dean is the nicest professor maybe on all of campus. Go to her office hours, she will take her time to invest in you. She has a contagious energy which makes her 8AM course bearable. She really is the sweetest lady and doesn't deserve the hate she gets. If you do poorly in her class, it is on you- just study you morons  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-04-15

Comments:BIO 1306 - DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!! LITERALLY RUN AWAY SCREAMING... SAVE YOUR GPA!!! please please please take my warning she! she makes her exams on ridiculous days and they are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT! if you do well on this test chances are that somebody told you what was gonna be on it before you took it so its not really your work. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE save yourself! these other ratings are too nice and they are the ones that screwed me over in the end so just save yourself and don't waste your time.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2019-04-12

Comments:1306 - Dana gets a bit more hate than she deserves. Her class was totally fair in the sense that her tests were completely based off of her powerpoints and some random fact she would blurt out in the middle of class. Everything was fair game. I won't name names, but her SI was god awful, so passing this class is totally on you and how much time you want to put in. The only grades she has for the most part are exam grades, and she doesn't drop a single test. This makes each exam worth so much more, which blows because I made one C on a test that she scheduled the day after fall break (class average was a 59) and it was practically impossible for me to make an A in that class after that. Dean is a very nice lady, and you can tell she loves her job.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2018-12-14

Comments:1306 - The key to this class it to start out strong, which I unfortunately did not do. I aced every exam but failed the first one, which left me playing catchup all semester. Be prepared - this class is a massive amount of material. However, it is not impossible if you study well and truly understand the material. Don't bother with the expensive book- exams are straight from the powerpoints. Memorize those and really focus on understanding key points and you'll do well. Dr Dean ended up replacing our lowest scores with the final, which we were shocked by since all semester she swore she would not. I am very grateful for her teaching style- she's super passionate about bio and relates it in a fun way. I can't wait to take her for Histo. Yes, the class is tough but it's not impossible. I can honestly say I studied more for this class than any other and I feel as though I earned my B! She does not give B+s which is slightly frustrating. All in all, I learned a lot and would take again - just be prepared for the powerpoints and memorize them all. you CAN DO IT!!!  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2018-12-12

Comments:1306 - This class is VERY hard. While Dr. Dean is such an amazing person and very passionate about what she teaches, trying to make plants interesting, her tests are VERY challenging. She goes through material so fast, sometimes I had to type notes to catch it in time and her tests questions are written in "which one is false" forms, so almost all information from one unit will be included. I would definitely read the textbook and then just try to learn how to take her tests because even if you feel like you know the material, the exam will still be hard.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-12-11

Comments:1306 - Ok, I'll start off by saying this: Dr. Dean is a very sweet lady. She is always friendly and will smile and say high to me in the hallways, and she is super energetic which makes it easy to stay awake in her 8 a.m. I'm glad I know her as a person. That being said, 1306 with Dean is definitely a very challenging class. I managed to do well, but that's only because I dedicated time to reviewing the material many many times before each test. Thankfully, her tests are entirely based off of her powerpoints, BUT she absolutely blazes through them in class. No breaks, no waiting for you to write down anything, just constant rapid fire nuggets of biology. She does so much talking I'm honestly not sure when she finds time to breathe. She does not really do much explaining of concepts in her class, she kind of just reads what is on her powerpoints to you. And everything on the powerpoints is fair game on the test, even if there was only one sentence about it. Also, she does not curve exams...our class average was pretty consistently in the low 60s, but no curve. In conclusion, if you take 1306 with Dean, be prepared to work your butt off. It's impossible to do well in this class without taking really good lecture notes and spending hours reviewing them outside of class; you will be responsible for making sure you know what's expected of you. This class is not an easy A, the grade you get is very representative to how much work you put in. Those of us that walked out with A's were not the smartest people in the classroom, we were just the ones who were willing to study hard.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-11-25

Comments:1306 - She has a lot of energy so she admittedly wont put you to sleep, but she really does not seem to care about her students. She makes things extremely difficult and her exams are done in the 4 truths and a false format making things hard. She is quite sloppy and her powerpoints are basically useless and she doesnt give much of a way to boost your grade as she gives 4 tests and a final and does not drop one. No curving either. I have had many good professors during my 4 years at Baylor but she is one of the worst I have had the displeasure to have. Also I think she might actually be a little insane  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2018-11-14

Comments:BIO 4426 - Dr. Dean has a lot of energy and makes listening to lectures fun. Her tests are multiple choice, but she likes the multiple multiple choice format which can make her exams and quizzes difficult if you don't know the material well. Overall, histology with Dr. Dean isn't bad as long as you pay attention in class and stay on top of studying.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-11-05

Comments:1306 - I just cant even begin to describe how angry I am with this course, I took it the previous semester with Harvill and made a 68(sigh) but thought id pretty easily get an A this time through right? Hahahaha i wish i had not taken this professor. She makes it impossible to actually do well on tests, She rushes through her powerpoints, she makes her tests on the most inconvenient dates and even when she acknowledges the fact the dates are inconvenient and that we have rushed the material too much she does nothing about it!! I would avoid at all costs   - Grade In Class:C
