Comments:QBA2302 - You are in a cold, dark room. The air is thick with the unmistakable scent of statistical despair. Welcome to Dr. Eide's statistics class, where the only thing multiplying faster than your workload is his collection of Hot Wheels.
Dr. Eide, the maestro of statistical torture, has a peculiar proclivity for steering his lectures off-road. He solemnly warns against getting off topic, only to promptly veer into a detailed discussion about the latest paint job on his prized Hot Wheels truck. Yes, forget probability; the real gamble is whether you'll make it through another anecdote about miniature vehicles.
In a desperate attempt to maintain some level of class attentiveness, Dr. Eide consistently asks for "questions, comments, or inappropriate remarks." The only inappropriate remark seems to be the absurd amount of homework he assigns while assuring everyone that he's "not trying to kill us." It's almost as believable as a Hot Wheels car winning a real-life drag race.
But wait, there's more! Dr. Eide, the unsuspecting star of his own statistical reality show, has a YouTube channel named "Eide Analytics." Picture this: a techno intro theme song blaring as he attempts to teach analytics with all the charisma of a statistical DJ. Move over, TED Talks; there's a new analytics sensation in town.
In yet another desperate attempt to maintain some semblance of order, Dr. Eide continuously asks the class "Y’all tracking?" Spoiler alert: No one is tracking. We're lost in the wilderness of his convoluted explanations and Hot Wheels metaphors.
In summary, Dr. Eide's statistics class is like a carnival ride you never wanted to go on – filled with unexpected turns, questionable decisions, and an overwhelming desire to get off as soon as possible. Don’t worry, at the end of your exams when you realize there is no shot you are getting an A in the class, he will make sure to dap you up or give you a fist bump to make you feel better about your GPA being tanked. Just be prepared to laugh your way through the statistical equivalent of a circus gone wrong. - Grade In Class:B+ |

Comments:The first QBA - Ngl I don't want to get too much into it because I will go on a neverending rant about this guy. But basically for the last 6 years his tests were open note open GOOGLE take home online. So I decided to take this class. However, he decided this year that since his coworkers got all salty that too many people got A's in his class, he would make it 10x harder this year. Not only are the tests not open note, they are in person. There is "optional" excel work to do, but if you don't do it you will be so confused. Oh, and also, a NINETY FOUR is an A. The first 3 tests were relatively based on the test, but the final was probably one of the worst things I've ever had to deal with, and on top of that we also had a problem. I like Dr. Eide overall, but this class is so hard for no reason now. If your group for the final project is bad, you are screwed. Dr. Eide cares about his students, but the material (especially the last unit) is hard and you have to teach urself with these long lecture videos he posts (and there are like 5 videos per topic). The Canvas page takes some time getting to Navigate. Also he has like 3 classes and always has "meetings" and so his office hours are basically nonexistent because he says it would be too overwhelming if he didn't do it on an appointment basis. Basically he just tells you to go watch his recorded videos if you don't understand. Which is honestly a fair point, because they are usually pretty helpful. The group work for the final project is kinda brutal. There are also like 170000 quizzes you have to do (like 50) so it does take a decent amount of time to do the work. Overall getting an A is super hard, but getting a B+ or A- is very attainable, if ur able to deal with the class just being annoying. - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:2302 - The review below is 100% accurate and you should treat it like a syllabus for what you're getting into. But, this dude assigns so freakin much. I get done with a quiz that took half an hour, boom theres 4 more for every day of the week. Seriously, felt like this was my only class cause I was doing a quiz and an excel workbook and studying for the exams. I do have an A though, so it works i suppose, bud damn I am getting tired of the work after work. Seriously, the teacher is great, he loves his students, hes funny and relatable and not pushy or harsh, but he gives us an obscene amount of work to do compared to any other class I've had. Again, its not hard work, it just sucks. - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:QBA 2302 - Very interesting guy. Never seen a class organized like his. His entire Canvas page is his own custom ecosystem with everything broken up neatly into specific tabs. It is split into 4 units and the work is mostly based out of Microsoft Excel, but he handmade pretty much every slideshow, worksheet, and even Excel document down to the very data we were using. He assigned about 50 quizzes throughout the semester, which were either done in class or just due on a certain night, but he drops like 30 of them so that only your best 20 or so count. We didn’t technically have homework to submit, but you have to do the worksheets because they form the quizzes pretty much every time. The lectures are a bit scattered, as he couldn’t be any less structured with those if he tried. He bounces around between his slideshow, the worksheet, and 10 different Excel workbooks and if you miss a second of it, you can get pretty lost. Yet, he was really good about not quizzing on something that he didn’t get to in class and would usually record a Youtube video of himself working through a whole lesson or worksheet if he felt he went too fast. On that topic, he was generally very forgiving and understanding and would let his student form his policies. For example, he would let us pick when we wanted to come in for the test, he asked us if we wanted to move the final to an earlier date, and would even ask if we wanted to cancel class a lot of the time. For tests, they were also based out of Excel and were usually pretty easy if you did your homework and understood how to complete problems, but even if you didn’t, he would make these ridiculous formula sheets that had everything you would ever need on it. If that didn’t work, he would even allow you to write down whatever you wanted on 3 sheets of paper and use it. Overall, this class is pretty easy is you keep up and he’s a really nice guy who truly cares about his students more than maybe any teacher I’ve ever had. - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:QBA 2302 - This is the first time I have graded a professor because Eide is really a great professor, academically and otherwise. If you don't understand the class, don't worry, go watch his videos and you will understand everything and be able to do very well on his exams, because that's what I did. As a student of his, he would often go out of his way to encourage us and make us successful in the class. His class is very interesting, he loves his family, and he loves to talk to his students. You can really learn something in his class, please don't cheat because he is such a good professor and that's all he asks for. Trust me, if you take it seriously, you will be able to get great grades.如果你和我一样是中国学生,一定要选肖恩,他真的很棒!!他对中国学生非常友善!! - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:2302 - Dr. Eide is one of the most accommodating, lenient professors I have ever seen. He really cares about his students and if the class performs poorly on something, he will give them opportunities to retake. (yes, even exams!) This class should be an easy A if you just do all the work and use the resources he gives you. You don't need the book, and honestly the best way to succeed in this course is to come to class. His lectures are pretty helpful and he often gives quiz answers. There are quizzes every week online, but they are open note. The other thing to consider with this class is there is a decent amount of group work with the same group all year, and you do not get to pick them. This has personally made me like this course less, but I know some people who have loved the groups and made great friends. Personally, I got stuck doing a lot of the group work, so if you hate group work definitely take that into consideration. His canvas page looks scarier than it actually is, Dr. Eide is a great professor! - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:2302 - Professor Eide's class was one I was very nervous to take. The prior ratings on this website claimed that you wouldn't learn anything and that his intelligence in the subject caused his course to be impossible, but they couldn’t have been more wrong. Professor Eide is one of the first professors I’ve had at Baylor so far that embodies integrity, enthusiasm, and flexibility. He truly cares about you learning the content more than a grade. While we still had 4 tests and about 2 quizzes each week, he provided us with the content and material to succeed if you just did the work. He provided several opportunities for extra credit and had retakes on every test that you could work on with your small group for a better grade. He goes the extra mile with each of his students even if that means a zoom call on his personal time to make you feel more comfortable with the content. While others have said that they didn’t learn anything in the class, they must have not done the bare minimum to understand. If you watch the videos and do the worksheets, the information should stick with you as it all builds off of each other. Cheating in his class is pointless and not needed if you do the work leading up to the quizzes/tests. Yes, he can catch you regardless of how you do it, he deals with data and statistics for a living!! But like any class in general you are only cheating yourself and not setting yourself up right for the second QBA course. You are allowed to use your notes, calculator, textbook, and google, just not other people or their work. Professor Eide is a professor I would recommend over and over again and I wish he was teaching the 2nd course of QBA. - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:QBA 2302 - I was in Professor Eide's class Spring 2020 which was half in person and half online. Had the class been fully in person, there would have been no problems. He is the sweetest man who truly cares about each student. He told us several times that he wants us to make an A in his class, and it is definitely possible to. You will have to work to get it, but it is easily attainable if you put in effort. He offered extra credit through Data Camp that could raise your grade by one letter if you did all of it. What we learned on there was supplemental to what we learned in class and will be helpful in the future. In this class, you have a homework assignment from the textbook and a quiz each week. The quiz is online and is usually asking the same questions as the homework, so it is really easy. We had 4 tests this semester because he split the last one up, but most semesters he has 3. They are online open note and open to use Google. Using Google doesn't help though because he makes the questions himself. The tests are pretty easy if you pay attention at all in class and make a decent effort to understand the material. The material is not very challenging! On top of that, you have a project with each unit that was a little hard, but if you ask for help, you will receive it and better understand what you are doing. He also changed the project this semester, so I don't know if he is planning on leaving it that way. With each part of the project, he makes a YouTube video to follow along with which is super helpful. Professor Eide is always available to meet outside of class and makes sure all of your questions get answered. If you have any problems in this class at all, just go talk to him and he is always happy to help. He set up a GroupMe to make it easy to ask questions and communicate which was super helpful. Overall, I thought this was a great class and due to the extra credit, I was never worried about not receiving an A. You will have to work, but he is such a sweet man, and I would totally recommend trying to get into his class if you can!! You will not regret it! - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:QBA 1 - Complaints that students did not learn anything is a reflection on the students, not on Eide, I PROMISE. I am going into my senior year, and currently going back and writing reviews on the teachers that stood out to me the most. Eide is top three. Hands down the nicest professor you will ever encounter. He's not just nice, however. Yes, his course is on the easier side. If you want an easy A and an enjoyable class, then he's your guy. If you actually want to learn, however, he is also your guy. Nearly every class I stayed a few minutes late and asked him more in-depth questions. Many times, even as recently as this year (I took his class two years ago) I have popped into his office and asked him practical and real-world questions. He has answered every single one to an impressive degree. He will make time for your, even if it is his personal time. He has spent more time actually applying statistics in the real world, and if you care about truly learning, this is invaluable. Eide cares about you as a student and as a person, he is extremely friendly and caring, and you will be able to learn as much as you could possibly hope to learn if you take the initiative. - Grade In Class:A |
