*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:1420 - Dr. Matthews is a very smart woman who definitely knowns what she is teaching. She answered all my questions meticulously, to the point where I always left with a better understanding of the topic. She is a little busy attending conferences, but for the most part, I was able to get a lot of help during her office hours. She assigns a reasonable amount of homework and will help you with the assignments if you get stuck. Would definitely recommend. She also gives a lot of extra credit which can boost your grade. We had a quiz every week but those weren't too bad and the exams resembled the quizzes so definitely go through them when reviewing for exams. She is willing to adjust her course if enough people make the same complaint. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1420 - Physics is a really difficult subject in general but I think she did a great job with it. Some of her assignment were very difficult but I always went to her office to get help every time I got stuck. In class, she is really nice and encourages interaction. We had a quiz every week, but they usually weren't too hard and we had plenty of opportunities to make up for bad grades with extra credits. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:PHY 2360 - Physics is hard and requires a lot of hard work. People who complain about the workload have a problem with physics, not Dr. Matthews. She is more than willing to help and wants nothing more than for her students to succeed, but you have to be willing to put in the necessary work to do it because it does not come easily, no matter the professor. She is one of the nicest professors I've had and I recommend taking her class. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:PHY 2360 - Ouch. This was a difficult course...Dr. Matthews is a helpful and nice professor who tackles lectures and lecture information with to-the-clock precision and a neat style. Helpful and to-the-point outside of class, she lends aid freely. One problem lies with her lecture style. Her lectures are based upon the premise that "One must crawl before one can walk...but after one crawls and before one walks, one must hurdle". Her in-class examples comprised of easy examples and—from time to time—a difficult one. The homework problems were, while taken as an aggregate not impossible, sometimes of a different stock altogether. If a problem were difficult, it was often of a form not resembling the in-class example (believe me, "difficult problems" were ubiquitous). Definitely a professor who will make one think like a physicist, but one who expects stellar students with hours available for each and every problem assigned. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:1408 - Yeah I agree with the last 3 comments. She barely did any examples in the class when she was expecting to do tons of hard homework problems by midnight- that was insane! AVOID HER IF YOU CAN!! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Phys natural behaviors - She wasn't a really good teacher at all. I have taken physics before and actually liked it but not with her. My biggest complain is that she gives you hardly any examples and doesn't do a lot of teaching. For the homework and everything else I had to go and learn it all on my own. Her tests are pretty hard but she gives you chances to earn a ton of extra credit and trust me you need those in her class. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:PHY 1408 - She is awful. Her class is really hard, she makes the tests way too long for one class period. She wouldn't even round me up .1 so I could get a B+ instead of a B. STAY AWAY FROM LORIN MATTHEWS AT ALL COSTS!!! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1408 - Whoever it was that decided to post those two ratings about Prof Matthews deserves to be SHOT!!! All of that crap is a lie!!! Students, BEWARE!!! This class is freakin' IMPOSSIBLE if you are a normal Baylor student. She teaches @ the honors level, and she doesn't give a crap about students grades! When the class avg for one exam was below a 60, she made the students that failed do a retake that was 10x harder than the original! That should tell you something people....STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROF! - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:Phy - Great Class, multiple choice tests, that folllowed the homowork to a t - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Physics - She has trouble explaining a few of the concepts, but overall if you do all the homework problems, then the tests are a breeze. She is helpful during office hours, and is by no means rude. - Grade In Class:A
