*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:BUS 1350 - Not great at teaching, but she's awesome as a person. She would lecture over what we learned in the previous homework. I know some professors do that and normally I'm fine with it, but in a class like excel that just doesn't really make sense. Those lectures were hard to follow and not be helpful at all. During class, everyone would just do the next homework instead of listening to her lecture. The multiple choice exams were the bottleneck, I think every excel professor gives these, but they were so confusing, and with her, once you answer a question you can't go back to it, so you can't use the "learn as you take the exam" method. Other professors would let you go back and forth between questions on the exam, but she wouldn't, which made it worse. And she would have a course schedule on the syllabus, and the class before one of those exams it says we will have a test review, but we just watched a ted talk and wrote a page on what we learned, and those ted talks weren't even relevant to the class. Some of those ted talks had good life lessons, but before an exam, it was just busy work. I did poorly in the first two exams and I visited her in her office hours, and she was actually very helpful. She set me straight and gave me some great study tips specific to this class. So in class she was not helpful, but if you see her in office hours she genuinely helps you. Later in the semester the class got easier, as we transitioned into the GMetrix stuff, where we actually used excel in class by doing the practice tests. Those helped me actually learn excel a lot more than any exam we did in the beginning. And we had the company capstone, where we make a company and pitch it and make financials in excel. That was easy and fun, and no other professor did that I don't think. All this stuff we did later in the semester set me up well for the final and the certification. Thank goodness that the final was not multiple choice, but doing stuff in excel, like the homework. The final was actually super easy. Midway through the semester I didn't think I could pass, I ended with a B. If you take Schaffer, you will likely struggle at the beginning of the semester cause she's not great at teaching, but if you see her in office hours she will help you, and the class will not get as tough later. Take another professor if you can, but if not, that's how the class will be. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:BUS 1350 - Mrs Schaffer was awesome! She is so kind and down to earth. she talks about her family but also teaches well. Her tests were straight forward 45 multiple choice questions. If you do the homework, it shouldn't be an issue. The online homeowork that every section has to do takes time but there is no way around it. No additional homework accept one group project. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Software Apps - Please try to avoid if possible! She for sure has no idea what she is doing. There is so much homework for no reason, the exams have nothing to do with the lectures or homework, and she teaches absolutely nothing. You can tell she is bs-ing her way through this. She is also not at all understanding or empathetic. This class will be hard no matter what but she is a horrible teacher - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1350 - Okay so yeah, she never opened excel in class, but honestly? That was the best part. In class we would lowkey just sit around and do nothing and the first 30 min of each class would just be us talking about our weekends. This class was pretty much asynchronous and we did all of our excel work outside of class but it was all super easy and you have three attempts on everything to get a 100. During class time she would even let us have free time to get our homework done. The tests aren't hard, and the final project at the end of the year is super easy (my group did it all in one day the night before it was due). Take Schaffer if you want a blow-off excel class (where you might not learn a ton of excel) but will have fun and get a good grade. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - Never once opened Excel up in an Excel class. It is essentially an asynchronous class. She is the sweetest, purest, and kindest person I know. Yet she is hardly a professor. I would avoid if you can find a better one. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - had a 92.98 in her clsas but she doesnt round... im convinced this teacher has no idea what she is talking about half the time. there isnt really any content in this course other than the cengage excel practice that takes anywhere from 30 mins to an hour a day to complete. as for the exams, she gives you a review the class before highlighting the content on the exam, most of which will be on there with the exception of a few questions that she doesnt mention. all the exams are alright with most of them having an average around a low b. teacher is alright but if you are actually trying to learn from a real human beig i would not suggest her. also she is horrible with emails and office hours. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - 1350 You Are My Hero!!! Loved professor Schaffer she is really nice and she really cares about all of her students. There is a descent amount of homework, but it's really easy. There are no quizzes in this class and the tests are a breeze. The class before the test she would give a study guide that is basically answers to the test. All of these reviews on here are because people didn't actually take the time to study and fully understand the study guide. If you knew the short 1 page study guide like the back of your hand this class should not be a problem. In terms of teaching we didn't really do much in class (teaching wise) it was mainly just working on a group project and doing homework. Take if you want an EASY A! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - Ok so Mrs. Schaffer is one of the nicest professors I've had. However although she means well she is a horrible teacher. I don't remember a single time when she actually taught us anything in class and when I approached her with questions afterwards she would tell me to check the textbook to find the answer. I'm honestly not convinced that she knows anything about excel. This class was awful... - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - Let me tell you. This class was no walk in the park, to say the least. She means very well, however, she took about 50 minutes to get to our lecture, which then left for only a 10-minute lecture. There was also a TON of homework that was not hard, just very tedious and not fun. Lot of late nights thanks to this class. Good luck. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - I could say she is a sweet lady, which she is, but most of the people here are not giving her a fair chance. As long as you go out of your way to study simple content and do the homework, you will be fine. The assignments take 30 minutes each, maybe 45 minutes at most. They are super easy and nothing to stress about. Her exams are also super lax. I honestly studied 30 minutes for each one and did fine in her class. She truly cares for her students and is super accommodating to everyone as well! I personally would take her as a professor again. You just have to be okay with really not doing anything in class and having a small workload outside of class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BUS 1350 - Professor Schaffer is a very nice lady, however her class is mainly self-taught. The assignments can take up long hours and the tests are pretty difficult if you don't know your stuff. She cares about students' well-being and also how they feel about the class. If you're looking for a relaxed class, but assignments that may be difficult, this class is for you, however you have to learn it regardless, so give her a fair chance. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:BUS 1350 - I dropped to take with even a decent teacher in the spring. Lessons and lectures cover 2% relevancy to what is on the tests. 2-3 assignments due before each class. Makes the class harder than it has to be. The good reviews on here are becuase she is a sweet lady at the end of the day, but being ncie and a good professor are two seperate things. Just trynna help you out, don't take her! No disrespect. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:1350 - Very nice lady who truly cares about her students. She is very unhelpful with what will be on tests and you can study for hours and leave with a poor grade. The homework is very time consuming but is decently easy points to boost your grade. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:BUS 1350 - HORRIBLE. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER. She is a sweet lady but just does not give a rats butt about what your grade is. She didn’t teach us a single thing the whole semester and it was basically an asynchronous class except you actually have to go. In class she would YAP the whole time about her family or literally anything else except teach. The first test she taught a little bit but after that the power points she had didn’t get pulled up ONCE. I learned everything on my own and spent HOURS EVERY DAY trying to learn this material. I had to teach some friends who were failing as well. I may be one of the only people in my class that got an A and that’s because I fought for my LIFE. You had three assignments due before every class period at 7:59 am. We had a group presentation where you have to create an ENTIRE business just to practice on excel. just horrible please save yourself the pain and take ANYONE ELSE IM WARNING YOU. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BUS 1305 - Every class has 1-3 assignments due before class starts. The assignments are not hard but each one takes 30 minutes to an hours so very time consuming. She spends the entire class reading off of very crowed powerpoints and none of it ends up on the test. We made a game out of how many times she told us something that was not true. All of her information was very outdated and she clearly was unaware of almost everything she teaches about. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - she does not round half points. i worked hard all semester be left at an A- because she would not round a 92.8% to the 93 she requires for an A. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:BUS 1305 - Loved this class. Workload was more difficult but manageable. She is extremely helpful for tests and reviews in the class period before, laying out exactly what you need to know. There are several group presentations but as long as your group meets at least 1 time before they are fairly easy to do. The hardest thing to do in this class is honestly keeping on track of your homework. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1305 - assignments due before every class but other than that she's a great professor and I'd take her again! - Grade In Class:B+
