Comments:REL 1350 - Professor Lysen is fantastic. Probably not a professor you'd want to take if you're not actually interested in learning or in the topic of the course. I can also understand how this be a more difficult course if you were not raised in a Christian environment. I will, however, say that she was most definitely one of my favorite professors that I've had so far. At first, her lectures were a little bit tricky to follow, but once you get used to her dialect her lectures become very rich. She is VERY knowledgeable. She also challenges you quite a bit as a student to question your own faith and why you believe what you do. I did not find her workload to be overwhelming at all. If you pay attention during her lectures you can easily ace the quizzes. Definitely a class that will make you think critically, though, so be sure to be prepared for that!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - The only reason I got an A in this class is because I literally studied for hours every single day and retaught myself everything she tried to teach in class, honestly. DO NOT take Professor Lysen. She makes this class SO much harder than it already is. She is soooo unorganized and scattered, and it honestly affected us in a lot of ways. She is definitely more focused on proving her intelligence and political views rather than actually teaching us material and helping us learn. She often went away from the syllabus and took out assignments (which most of us probably had already done because she waited until the last minute to cancel them) and added in assignments that were extremely time consuming. We took two tests (which had literally nothing to do with the notes or canvas quizzes) that were legit 100% writing based, so they were very subjective. The final was multiple choice and she did not give any insight to it whatsoever so we honestly went in blind. Come to find out, the final had literally nothing to do with the other two tests. This class was extremely hard to sit through, and even harder to do the work she assigned. I would recommend taking literally any other professor, especially if you haven’t been in church your entire life.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Huge workload, but that's expected with this kind of class. She lectures the minute class starts to the minute class ends and expects you to take notes by hand the entire time. Lots of reading each night. She has a short quiz due before every class over the assigned reading and the material in previous class(es), but they are super helpful when studying for tests. Her tests are scantron multiple choice (most of which are quiz questions) and an essay (she gives you the prompt beforehand to prepare). She is very scattered most of the time, but she covers everything needed. Always helped me out when I needed it.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1300 - All the other ratings are really low but I do not know why. I think she is an amazing teacher and if she offered other classes I could take I definitely would. Her lectures are on powerpoint and before each class she goes through what she's going to talk about, which I know a lot of people write down before hand so that they follow along with her well. She is very upbeat which makes class fun. I would highly highly recommend her!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL1310 - She was very crazy and did not help anyone to understand the material. A lot of the class were people who grew up reading the Bible and no one had any idea what she was talking about. She acted like she had never taught anyone before and she was very scattered. The class was very confusing and not very organized.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - I personally am not a fan of Prof. Lysen's teaching style. She can be very confusing to listen to and seems very disorganized in class. She is constantly adding little annotations and notes and erasing things and replacing words with other words and doodling all over the board so that by the time you are done your notes look pretty horrific. Plus, she is very heavy on writing... she requires two fairly long, in-depth research/text analysis papers in the semester, and her exams are very heavily essay-based. In addition, she is regularly late in posting homework and quizzes, which can be really frustrating. She dedicates a lot of class time to group work and discussion, which really ends up as 30 minutes of wasted class time every period which could be (very helpfully) spent clarifying concepts and reviewing/reinforcing key material. I definitely wouldn't take Lysen if you just need to get this Scriptures gen ed out of the way and are looking for an easy A.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - She is a fairly good professor.. Lectures are kinda hard to follow for most people, but since I was raised in church I pretty much knew where she was going with many things. Tests are 11 matching, 11 short answer, 3 short essay, and 1 long essay, but she grades fairly easy so it makes the monstrosity slightly better. If you do all of your readings, there's right up to 3 hours of reading/responses per class meeting of homework. There's two different essay projects during the semester that consists of a 6-8 page exegetical paper and a pre-writing that took me about 6 hours to complete. For sure my worst class when it comes to workload. She's a great person so if you have time, patients, and LOTS of both, she would probably be a fine option.   - Grade In Class:B+
