Comments:1308 - By far the worst class I've ever taken. Ms. Covill was always late to prearranged meetings and lacked confidence when teaching. My class was always behind the schedule set on the syllabus and she graded much harsher than was originally communicated. She also lacked SI sessions, which forced us to meet with her outside of class time but was prompt in answering emails, however when the time came to meet she was consistently late to our appointments.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:MTH 1308 - This was by far the worst teacher I have EVER had. She has no confidence and half of the class was spent having the students look confused as we all got different answers on our calculators than what she was doing on the board and us proceeding to be confused rather than focus on what she's teaching until we finally say she's incorrect. She never curves and barely gives any chances at extra credit or to get points back on tests. Her tests are unfairly hard and as we approached the final exam and every other section of MTH 1308 was finished and doing review, we were still learning what they had learned weeks prior. It was an unfair setting for us all and I would highly discourage her but if you're stuck with her, get an outside tutor and try to attend other sections S.I.'s since she has none.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1308 - The reality of lower level freshman college math courses is you’re likely always going to get stuck with a graduate student as a professor. Especially since Baylor spends more money turning a fountain green than they do hiring actual professors. Anyway, as you might be able to deduce, Ms. Covill is a grad student, and a very shy one at that. It’s clear she doesn’t want to be a teacher as she spends the entirety of every class talking to the board with no engagement with her class. At first, this gave me a very bad taste for her. I struggled through my first exam, barely securing a C-. However, office hours will save your life. Ms. Covill is very, very generous with office hours and very patient with any student who goes in seeking help. She’ll explain everything as clear as she can and will write down every problem in full length on her board. Unfortunately, extensive office hours will never compensate for poor teaching, and I’d go as far to say that it’s likely impossible to get anything above a B if you don’t have any prior experience in the subject. You basically have to teach yourself everything in this class, but use office hours AND math lab and you’ll have success. As for the class, there’s four exams and a final, which is departemental. Homework is due every monday with one quiz per week (always at the beginning of class on Monday.) All of this is departmental and out of her control. Good luck!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1308 - If your gonna take this class I would suggest getting an outside tutor or something like that. She doesn’t express any confidence really and doesn’t know how to take control of the class. She would start off every example problem with the phrase, “Ok what should we do here”. Tests and quizzes were ridiculous because they were the same problems from the homework and examples but 10X harder and that made up most of your grade. The homework was a reasonable amount and not too terrible. Although she was very convenient during office hours. Overall better one on one then an actual teacher.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:1308 - Do not let your first impressions of her ruin the class for you. She is VERY shy, but opened up for our class by the end of the semester. Homework is departmental so she really has no say on how much we get but it's not really a bad amount. Tests are annoying because it's the same things we learned but 75% harder than any examples or assignments. If you have any questions, she has convenient office hours and she really walks you through what and how to do anything. She's definitely there for you if you need it. Take her if you have the chance!  - Grade In Class:B+
