Comments:GTX2302 - During the first GTX class with Dr Howell, I spent the class period trying to switch into another section because it was so bad. I couldn't get into another section. In the class, we go through Hell with Dante's Inferno, but the class itself was Hell (in my humble opinion). Aside from obnoxious classmates, Dr Howell herself was unbearable. She has an atrocious valley girl accent, brags about herself, gets oddly emotional (like, why are you teary-eyed over dead philosophers on a random Tuesday?), and is very nitpicky. One class period, a couple of classmates went to the bathroom (not disruptively, very normal), and the next class period, she ranted about how upset she was that people were being so rude and disruptive during class. She grades fairly easily, but there is a lot of reading, daily notecards on the readings, an essay, and two exams. Her exams are idiotic because she doesn't allow the texts during the exam, but expects you to write an essay with textual evidence (not required quotes, but still). Unless you want to be sanctified through suffering, do not take Jenny Howell.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2302 - Very very very bad. Extremely poor teacher seems like she read spark notes before class . DO NOT TAKE! Clearly doesn’t think students are smart and just brags about herself.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2302 - Dr. Howell is very passionate about her course material, which is probably the best thing about her. Her enthusiasm definitely lightens up the class. However, you do have to go the entire semester without knowing what your grade is/where you stand in the class. She changed how our grades work in the middle of a semester, and added weekly quizzes. The essays and tests are easy enough to BS and only deal with the class the day before, so getting an A is pretty easy. The only thing you have to watch out for is making sure you participate in class enough to keep a good participation grade. At the beginning of the semester, she said actively paying attention counted as participation. This did not prove true, she really liked students talking and reading aloud. Overall, Dr. Howell is a pretty good choice for a reasonable workload.  - Grade In Class:A
