Comments:1301 - Dr. Coogan is overall a good professor considering that she is super passionate about Environmental Science and about creating a fun learning environment for students. That being said, she REALLY cares about student engagement. She will pace around the front of the room with the seating chart and her lecture notes and call on people the entire class period. So be prepared to talk in front of the class even if you don't want to. The homework quizzes are not bad at all. It is basically about 15 questions you have to answer after the reading and you get 1/3 of the point for the question deducted every time you get one wrong. The questions are not hard but they require some prep. The in class assignments are so dumb and pointless but if you do not show up to class for them (and they are usually a surprise) you will get a zero. However, the exams were way harder than necessary. They are based purely off of random stuff she says in class or questions you have to deductively figure out based on several different pieces of knowledge. In other words, the questions are not straightforward at all. The only way to do decent on her exams is to memorize every definition (which is a lot), pay super close attention to her lectures/take notes, and know all about the case studies in the book. Most of us are not taking the class because we want to become environmental scientists but most of time it feels like she thinks we all do or will want to after her class. Also, she gives no extra credit. So be prepared to make no big mistakes. Come ready to her exams. My suggestion is to look elsewhere but if you end up with Coogan you will at least learn a ton.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - I would not advise you to take this professor if you do not have to. She's a great teacher and can be very helpful! But she does not offer too many opportunities to boost your grade i.e extra credit, and her exams are not the easiest.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2307 - Dr. Coogan is the embodiment of knowledge. With that being said her course can be quite the challenge. There are 3 exams all based only on the lecture notes which is great however you have to truly know the lecture notes in their entirety to pass the exam with a decent grade. Her line of questioning can be quite confusing so pay attention to key words and definitions as well as examples given throughout the lecture. The lecture pdfs are given to you so my advice would be to take notes on what she says rather than to get caught up in trying to copy the notes. She gives many assignments that are simple to complete throughout the semester (if you can take field tech first before this class, the skills you get help with the assignments). She also gives quizzes on the chapters from the textbooks so make sure to purchase one and read the chapter. She\'ll tend to post papers to canvas from time to time that she doesn\'t require you to read so don\'t bother wasting time reading them as she doesn\'t ask you about them; unless you would like to know more about certain topics from the lectures. Grades only come from the combination of quizzes and homework as well as the three exams. This class is a challenge so if you want anything above a B you need to really know the material.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:ENV 1301 - There wasn't a B- option, but I finished with a B- FYI! My biggest advice for her exams is to use the Pearson Practice Exams and make Quizlet questions from her review slides. I did that for the final (which is non-cumulative), and I scored 14 points better on that exam than the first two. She uploads her lecture slides on Canvas and also uploads test reviews before the exams. There are a couple of in-class assignments that you do have to be in class for, but unless you literally don't do any work, it's a pretty easy assignment. She is available outside of class as long as you ask her about setting up an office hour appointment at least a day before. I also highly recommend her office hours after exams because she'll let you see where you went wrong and also give you study tips if the methods you've been using didn't work. The weekly Mastering assignments are Open-Book however some of the questions I did have trouble finding some in the book. Overall she is a good professor who cares about her students and wants to know you if you want.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301 - Professor Coogan is an extremely nice lady and very captivating as a teacher. I would go to class thinking I understood things and then do terribly on her tests and as a 4.0 student it pissed me off. However, by the last test, I figured out how to succeed on her exams. 1) make notecards on vocabulary on slides 2) Review all the slides and notes taken over them in class 3) do not take notes on her slides take notes on what she says in class, as that is what you will be tested over 4) Do the dynamic study modules and other practice tests and quizzes on mylab 5) review my lab homework 6) do review slides and make notecards over them 7) read the book prior to coming to class and take notes inside then prior to test reread what you highlighted/ took notes on I KNOW THIS IS A LOT. I was the only person who did well because of this process so it is worth it, but she is an awesome lady so if you are willing to do this work take her. She is very passionate and kind and you will learn so much!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ENV 2307 - Honestly I love Dr. Coogan. While her class is not the easiest, I definitely learned a lot. She really wants her students to do well. Her quizzes are not always the easiest but they are not horrible and are spaced out well. Her exams are fair for a 2000 level class and if you study you will do well. She gives out written assignments that do have a short time to do but she does not grade them very hard and they become an easy way to boost your grade. Overall loved this class and wish I could take Dr. Coogan again.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:ENV 2307 - This class wasn't horrible, but it also was not the best class. The material can be a dry, and Dr. Coogan can start to get repetitive after her first few lectures. We had quizzes every class over the reading, which often had deceptively difficult questions. They usually focused on vocabulary, so I suggest studying that the most. The exams were also very specific and required you to both understand the concepts and remember the examples she used in class. Our averages were usually in the 70s. As a Studies major, the class was definitely designed for science majors. We had several writing assignments that weren't on the syllabus that were geared towards lab/research writing. These assignments were graded pretty harshly, so they can take a long time to complete. Dr. Coogan is very friendly, though, and she loves to talk to her students. If you have to take this class, Coogan is probably your best option.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Coogan is an absolute queen! She is the sweetest person. I have never had a prof so passionate about her work and passionate about her students. She really wants all her students to excel in her class. Her tests are super straightforward and simple. There are weekly homeworks from the chapters that are easy 100s if you use quizlet. HW counts for 40 percent of your grade so its pretty easy to get an A in the class. I love Coogan!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ENV 1301 - Dr. Coogan is the best! She is hilarious and is a great teacher too. The only thing I would warn you about is that she calls on people randomly instead of having people raise their hands, so you have to be listening at all times!!!! Other than that, I would totally recommend.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:ENV 2307 - I love Dr. Coogan! She's very funny and kind as a person, but as a professor she can be a bit frustrating. Grade comes almost solely from quizzes and tests and what you get is what you get. No curving in this class. Tests and quizzes are mostly fair but the amount of material you'd have to study to ace it is kind of ridiculous. The class is lecture based and can get pretty boring at times. Also she assigns a couple of random assignments throughout the course that have a very quick turnaround, so always be ready. Don't expect an A in this class unless you treat it like you would OChem or Physics.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:ENV 1301 - Dr. Coogan is an absolutely terrific lecturer who's very passionate about her subject. She's really wants you to ask questions and tries to get the whole class involved by calling on everyone in the room at least once to answer something that she asks. There's around 15 homework assignments that come straight from the book and they account for 40% of your grade. The reading can range from about 18 pages to 35 pages a week plus she includes powerpoints over the reading which are usually around 2-4 hours long. There are two exams and the final, all are non-cumulative and consist of 50 multiple choice questions. She doesn't throw a ton of obscure questions on the exams so as long as you've kept up with class lectures and readings then you should be fine. Overall, this isn't a blow-off class by any means but if you need a lab science credit then this is the class that I would recommend.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Great professor! Her class is based 40% on homework but there is only 15 questions a week so it is a must! But with that being said, doing well on homework is the trick to an A. Doing the homework also helps you on her straight forward tests. Definetly recommend her for this class!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - this class takes up a lot of time...I was lead to believe I would be able to breeze through this course and it would be an easy science credit. I would study for around 8-10 hours to get an A on her exams...you also have to watch and take notes on about 5 hours worth of lectures before you go to class. if you like environmental science it'll be interesting to you...but this was not my fav class. dr. Coogan is organized but her classes are so big so its difficult to connect with her. she is so passionate and loves what she does ! the homeworks were easy but tests were difficult for me! final is not cumulative tho !!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - I honestly don't know why Dr. Coogan's rating is not a 100. Not only are her lecture's so interesting but her class is super easy too. You really just need to put in some effort to do well, which is easy to do because of how interesting she makes the material. She is easily one of the smartest and wisest professors I have ever had. The reason her lectures are so interesting is because she has had so much experience in so many fields that she has so many stories and knowledge about almost every topic we touched on. Not only is she such a good teacher but she is also so kind and fun. She really likes to get to know her students and help them succeed in the class. I am so so thankful I took her for 1301 because it was just so fun and I learned so much from her. Take her! Please!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4V90 - This is my third semester with Dr. Coogan in some capacity (ecology, 3V90, 4V90), and I am telling y'all- take her. I promise you won't regret it. Dr. Coogan is like the affectionate mom/grandma that you've always wanted, and she clearly cares about her students both academically and as people. Her workload is fairly light, and her teaching ability is easy to understand. She is awesome about answering questions, and I've never once been made to feel stupid. I cannot say enough good things about her!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Dr. Coogan is honestly one of the best professors I have taken at Baylor. She is a brilliant woman and conveys the information into the lectures. There were 10 online Canvas quizzes and she drops the 2 lowest. Her exams were not hard but they did require some studying. She brought candy for the final exam day as well! She likes to call on people in class to get participation going and class was always interesting. She told lots of stories about her time in her PhD programs and her time teaching and doing field work. Definitely recommend going to her office hours if you need help, or even to talk and get to know her. She is easy to talk to and is more than willing to work with you on just about anything. Definitely take her if you get the chance!!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1301 - If you need to take a science class to fill your requirements I would definitely take Dr. Coogan. She is so passionate and interested in environmental science that it makes it very easy to follow. I would always space out in lectures but I still got an A in the class. She doesn't allow any late work, including if you miss an online quiz. There's a total of 10 quizzes and she ended up dropping our two lowest scores, so it's not hard to make 100s on the quizzes. She is very into class participation, but she'll basically give you the answers. If you review her lectures before the exams they are super easy. They're easy even if you don't review. She's super approachable and easy to, so I would recommend taking a class with her.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ENV 1301 - Honestly don't take her if you don't absolutely have to. She is a nice person in general, but her class is extremely boring. She doesn't tell you at all what's on the test, and doesn't base it off of the main ideas of the chapter. she tries to trick you on the tests. I like her as a person but will never take her again.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:3210 - She's like a mix between a mom and a grandma. She loves getting to know each person individually and legit cares about us. I would take her even if I didn't need to take the class  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3210 - Dr. Coogan is the nicest and most passionate person you will ever meet in the Environmental Science Department. I took her during her first semester here at Baylor, and am taking her again for Field Tech. She clearly loves her job and what she does, and even though her classes can be difficult and work-heavy, you will learn A LOT. She LOVESSSS the midwest and always talks about her crazy experiences and research in Chile and is overall just one of the greatest gals out there. Super kind, super smart, super helpful. If you ever have the option, take Dr. Coogan!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2307 - Very helpful, kind, and enthusiastic professor. Her grading is very fair and reasonable, you will have to study and read if you want a good grade, and your grade is mostly weighed on quiz and test grades.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2307 - Dr. Coogan has become one of my favorite professors at Baylor. I learned so much in her ecology course and actually feel like I retained the information. She is excited about what she is teaching which makes her class enjoyable. Her exams took me off guard at first, they need more studying than you would originally anticipate, but they can be an easy A if you study enough. Expect to maybe not do super amazing on the first exam until you understand her style. I also had her for Field Techniques and she wants you to succeed in the class and wants you to understand the techniques you are learning and how they apply in real research. If you use previous lab reports to help you with other ones, you will improve each week. I would take another one of her courses if I could. Wonderful professor, 10/10 recommend any class she will teach.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Ecology 2307 - Dr. Coogan is one of the best professors that I have ever had. The majority of your grade is based on the tests and 25% on quizzes. As long as you read her PowerPoints you will be fine. Dr. Coogan is brilliant and really knows what she is talking about. If you do not understand the concepts you can go to her office hours and she will sit and go over everything with you. My biggest recommendation for her class is to utilize her office hours, get to know her. She has tons of connections and cool experiences that just all around contribute to her being an awesome person. Take Dr. Coogan do not miss the opportunity to actually learn about the environment. She really truly cares about her students, and wants you to succeed in her class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:ENV 2307 - Ecology. I would definitely recommend Dr. Coogan. She clearly cares about her students and wants them to learn. She's also passionate about the material. By the end of the semester, you realize that her notes come directly from the textbook. Her tests are only from her powerpoints, so they're doable. Go talk to her in office hours (she's really fun to speak with), do a little reading, and you'll easily pass and enjoy the class.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301 - I loved Dr. Coogan! She is new this year and moved here from Iowa. She is very approachable, always positive, on track, and organized. Every class is lecture from powerpoint slides that are based off the textbook, so you're pretty much learning from the textbook in class. There are two tests and a final that is not cumulative. Each test covers about 5 chapters and some good studying a few nights before the tests should do you good. Pay attention in lecture and take notes, especially on things not mentioned in the textbook. These will most likely be on the test (that's what hurt me). There are quizzes on every chapter on canvas (not timed) and she gives you several days to get them done. They're pretty easy if you have the right resources and the textbook gives you almost all the answers. There are a few other assignments that are in-class, nothing hard at all. Usually group work that can be done in 20 minutes. She responds to emails fast and is almost always available for appointment. I got an 80 on the final and she added 4 points back which brought my B to a B+! Take her if you can!!!  - Grade In Class:B+
