*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:1305 - TERRIBLE PROFESSOR. the course itself isn't hard at all and the workload is pretty light but Dr. Brewer only talks about herself in the class instead of the subject matter. She will also bring in people to hate on you for your political views. She is a very liberal forward professor, and if you are even slightly conservative there will be coursework and discussions hating on you for that. If you support Trump, I suggest taking another professor. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:SOC 1305 - Dr. Brewer is great. She teaches the class in a really formal, and empirical way. Shes really passionate about what she teaches and shes funny. This class did not have a lot of work besides occasional reflections but those are pretty easy. The tests are in class but they are not hard at all if you follow the lectures. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Intro to Sociology - Dr.Brewer is great and I would definitely take her again if I needed an upper level sociology course however her 1 flaw that no one talks about is that she posts the slides after class so you have to take your own notes or just sit there and do nothing like I did or u can work on other classes. I typically download the power points before class so I can follow along but in her class I can't do that so I'm just working on other things. Her class consisted of 3 major writing assignments that honestly took me 30 minutes each. Then every week she assigns only 1 thing and its relatively quick. I didn't read a single thing in that class, no textbook, no assigned readings and I did fine. The class also has 2 exams that are open note and open book so I used some help from my notes... The the final was online too all in Canvas with no lockdown browser and it literally was 32 questions and I finished in 20 minutes. The final was taken in class but the 2 exams during the semester I could take anywhere on campus as long as it was during the designated class time slot. I learned a lot in her class and while some things hit nerves, it really wasn't all that deep. I like Dr. Brewer and wanted to do research with her however they needed spots for graduate students. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:SOC 1305 - TAKE DR. BREWER!!! This class was an absolute breeze but I still feel like I came out of the class having learned a ton! The exams are open note, no LDB, and super duper easy as long as you've paid attention. Each week you have a reflection due, these are just a 2 paragraph writing where you apply the concepts we're learning to our own lives. There are also a couple "responses" that are slightly larger writing assignments, but as long as you start them early enough you'll be just fine. Her lectures can be long and a little bit boring but she invites a ton of discussion and it is obvious how passionate she is about the subject. Her office hours are a little limited, but she highly encourages everyone to reach out and meet with her. She can be a bit particular about certain things: attendance and tech. I'm not sure if she actually enforces this, but if you are later than 2 ish minutes you are counted absent :/. Also, she told us that if people had issues with being on their phones we wouldn't be allowed to take notes on tablets or laptops BUT the guy next to me slept and watched TikTok most days, and tech hasn't been banned so..... ANYWAY! Loved Dr. Brewer, her class is honestly so easy as long as you try! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - Like everyone else has said, BREWER IS AMAZING! The only weekly workload is Pack Back questions and posts that are due at a certain time, so just make sure to keep up with those. She also drops one. You may have to do a reading assignment where you just answer questions, but it took me no time at all to just answer them in a few sentences and turn it in quickly. You have open book and no lockdown browser exams which are great! She is always open to meeting with you and to feedback. Her tests are easy and all multiple choice. You have to write one paper, but she gives you thorough details on what she is looking for. Overall, I enjoyed taking Brewer and would do it again in a heartbeat. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - TAKE HER CLASS!!!!!! She is one of my favorite professors at Baylor. Her lectures are so interesting. There is a packback each week and a reading response, open note exams, and a neighborhood paper. I fell in love with sociology while taking her class and ended up switching my major to it. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:SOC1305 - Take Dr. Brewer!! She is an amazing professor. The workload is not bad at all and the exams are very easy. If you put in the work, you will get an A in this class. However, I must add that her class is extremely liberal. We were assigned a 25 paged article that argued President Trump and his supporters are homophobic, sexist, racist, and xenophobic etc. It would have been nice if both parties were equally represented in this class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - WARNING: Dr. Brewer is great in most regards. Her class is easy, and she is fun. That being said, she is politically biased. You will get a politically biased course. It is supposed to be an intro to sociology, but in reality it is an intro to conflict theory. You examine everything through a lens of conflict which always paints one side bad and one side good, coincidentally with the liberals always being right. Expect to learn about gender constructs, white priviledge, "christian nationalism" and anything else associated with that. She is not overt about her, but her lectures always center on defaming one side. She teaches very controversial, arguable positions as facts and uses one sided (often old) studies to back it up, while ignoring any contrary evidence. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - Dr. Brewer was one of my favorite professors. The workload wasn\'t bad at all, and she thoroughly explained all the topics. She did not count attendance although it was highly encouraged. Without studying, you could still get an A or B on the test. She\'s also overall such a kind person and was very helpful whenever I had questions. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - I would highly recommend taking this course with Dr. Brewer. The class is very straight froward with no difficult concepts, the exams are easy as long as you know the general content/definitions, and she does a great job at explaining the content. There were no quizzes in this class, only three exams, two papers (which were pretty easy) and weekly reading responses that consisted of answering two or three questions about the weekly readings. Minimal coursework, this class never stressed me. The only gripe I would have about this class would be some misinformation in the "work" unit, but this just a personal opinion and doesn't matter if you want that easy A. Take this class - Grade In Class:A
Comments:SOC 1305 - Dr. Brewer is a great professor. From day one it was very easy to see that she is passionate about sociology and cares about her students. Besides the two papers (which can take a little time), the workload is light as her lectures do a solid job of covering the course content leaving supplemental reading responses due every few weeks as the only graded homework. If you have the ability to take Dr. Brewer I would highly recommend it. As long as you prepare properly, her exams are extremely fair. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - She made sociology interesting, and it was fun to listen to her lecture. She doesn't allow you to be on your phone, laptop, and earbuds. So absolutely no electronics in her class. She makes you write down the notes, or you can just listen to her and download the notes from the canvas. We had a total of 10 short answers to do (on Word doc, one page with double spaced). She does drop 5 lowest ones from them. We also had 2 essays to write, one of them was 2-4 pages, and the other one is 4-6 research paper. Her canvas using skills is horrible. If you decide not to do a few short answers (which is fine because she's going to drop them anyway), it will appear as missing and drop your overall grade. So you really can't figure out your real grade until the end of the semester, and it will look very low. Her test is weird but uses command sense to answer them. Overall she was okay. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:SOC 1305 - TAKE HER!! She is amazing! There is no homework except to read a few articles she assigns. There were online quizzes which were only like 5 questions. Super easy. Take notes in class off the powerpoint or study the powerpoints she posts on canvas. THAT'S THE TEST! The grades mostly consist of the 3 tests, final, and quiz grades. She is very sweet and helpful so don't hesitate to ask questions if need be! The test is answering 2 of the 5 discussion questions and 25 multiple-choice questions. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - I really enjoyed this class her teaching style is very straight forward. All you need to do for an A is pay attention in class, do the readings, and fill out the study guide before the exam. I even got a 100 on an exam in this class. Its also enjoyable considering sociology is that engaging but Dr. Brewer makes it more interesting by bringing in different points of views from many other sociologists. After this course I considered getting a minor in this field. You do have to right a paper about your home town which was a little hard because it had to be long but just start early and be fine. Don't do what I did which was wrote it in two days the week before. Thankfully I got a B but that could have been an A which would have shifted my grade for the better. Also I didn't know she gave out A- until the end of the year so thats what I ended with but know that from the beginning and aim for a 94 not a 90 like I did. Overall I enjoyed her class and recommend you take it. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:soc 1305 - Dr.Brewer is very intelligent, kind, and fashionable. Her lectures can be boring because sometimes it feels like she goes too slow. However, she tries to switch things up often with activities and group work. She assigns the textbook to read but you really don't need to. There are like 10 online quizzes but they are very easy. There is one essay but you basically just talk about your experiences so its easy. The tests are extremely easy if you just review before. Take Dr.brewer and you will do great. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - Dr. Brewer is an excellent professor who, if you pay attention in class will allow you to get an easy A. Her lectures are rather engaging and she makes sure you understand every point. If you are looking for an easy A with a great teacher take this class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - Dr. Brewer is hands down one of the best professors I've had at Baylor! Her lectures are very interesting and fun! She does learning checks through canvas every week or two and they are open note. Her tests are extremely fair and easy with some studying! TAKE HER IF YOU CAN WOU WON'T REGRET IT!!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - Dr. Brewer was the best professor I've had at Baylor yet! She is extremely helpful, nice, and tries to keep class interesting. She really cares about her students! The way she teaches is incredible, and her class is not hard at all! Take her if you can! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - Definitely one of my favorite professors I have had at Baylor! Classes are engaging because she makes the class interactive and students are allowed to voice their opinions throughout the lecture. She is very personable and I enjoyed showing up to her class. Test are directly from the lectures and presentations, so make sure you take good notes in class. There are weekly learning checks, just to make sure you have studied a bit, and if you read over your notes once or twice scoring an A on all of them is not difficult. Overall awesome class and I definitely recommend taking her! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - Dr. Brewer is a great professor. She is personable, funny, and teaches the content in an engaging way. She is very open to recommendations on class content and structure and made the class very enjoyable. Tests were MC and short answer (you choose 2 out of 5). We would have learning checks (quizzes) every week or two and they covered the slides. She posted all the slides after class so don't worry about scrambling to take notes. You also write a paper about the demographics of your neighborhood which was very interesting. She gave all the resources needed, posted a step by step video and it wasn't hard to do. Ask questions if you have them, she likes class to be open dialogue and doesn't want anyone to be confused. She cares about her students, made it a point to learn everyone's name in a 65 person class, and made a great class environment. I would definitely recommend taking her class. - Grade In Class:A
