*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:1301 - I would not take her if you have never taken Spanish before because she does not really teach material, just goes over it. The homework is fine just tedious and you have like 4-5 assignments plus a video quiz due before every class period. But her lecture is very engaging and fun and you can tell she really enjoys the subject. She does provide study guides for exams but personally, I did not find them to be very helpful. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1302 - If you have taken Spanish before aside from 1301, take Fraga. If you haven’t, then good luck. My best advice is that if you haven’t taken Spanish and choose Fraga, constantly immerse yourself in the language so it can become second nature. Only people who were exceedingly passionate about Spanish or took years of Spanish were able to make A’s in the class because it was just a review. Her tests were completely free response, which was difficult. The best thing I could recommend is going over the vistas in practice mode. She doesn’t provide a study guide, but if you know people in other sections their professors often offer a study guide that’s pretty similar to the tests. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:SPA 1302 - Look, if you've taken Spanish before, take Fraga, it will be fun! She's is friendly, kind, reasonable, and encouraging. She knows and cares about all of her students. I will say something to be weary of was how many different categories make up our grade. Participation, attendance, essays, homework, canvas work, tests, speaking assessment, final, and the lab. So this is good if tests aren't your strength, but it also means you have to do well in all the categories if you want an A at 93. Beware she is particular about attendance, if you miss class or are under prepared for one of the days the speaking, essay, or other assignments are happening, it can affect your grade. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1302 - This class is okay, if you are really good at Spanish you will be fine BUT if 1301 was your first Spanish class do not take her. The test are almost all fill in the blank and she doesn't give much room for anything else. Her writing exams were pretty tough, you never get it before so it requires a lot of practice. She is a stickler on attendance regardless if you're sick. This class requires a lot if you're newly learning Spanish, I think other professors are more understanding while you are learning. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:1302-LAB - Professor Fraga is extremely helpful and friendly. I only had her for my spanish lab once a week but I really enjoyed her class every week. There is one project and an assessment after every class and you are graded for participation. Professor Fraga always was happy to answer questions and wanted to get to know students. I would highly recommend this professor. She is from Spain and has a native speaker's perspective that I think is very helpful. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:SPAN 1302 - side note: i took fraga during spring 2020 (covid) OKAY, YOU SHOULD TAKE HER. she is excellent. she has humor and the skills to deliver the material in ways you can remember the information and understand it. i didnt have a strong foundation of spanish prior to taking spanish at baylor and I made an A in the lecture and the lab (i took lab with hannah dyar). her exams: her exams can be challenging. to do well, you must KNOW the grammar, vocab, and etc. you must must study and participate in class. doing the online homework will help you with exams. there are 3 exams and a final. daily/weekly assignments; online homework is due every MWF at 8am. they do take a while if you are really using it to study and apply the material. class time: you kinda have to participate to make a good participation grade. she will call on you too if you don't volunteer. but tbh, i thought it was fun and interactive and it made me more confident with speaking spanish quizzes; there are about 5-6 quizzes throughout the semester. i thought they were easy. they are pretty short and take about 10-15 mins. overall, take fraga. she makes spanish easy to learn and fun! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:SPA-1302 - Profesora Fraga is literally one of the kindest people I have ever met, but she is no pushover! You must show up and do the work to be successful in her class. Spanish is difficult but if you are not understanding, Prof. Fraga will do anything she can to help you - but you have to put the work in. She is always available during office hours and spent nearly two hours with me one time. She makes the classroom fun and tries to do fun activities to keep the material and learning experience engaging. If you are truly interested in learning Spanish then I 100% recommend you take her! I put the workload as a 1 because there is a lot of homework and assignments, however, I believe this is true of any foreign language class. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1302 - HOMEWORK: She assigns online homework before every class, including lab (even if you're not in her lab). However, you can look it up online, and there are always quizlets. Plus, you genuinely do need to study for her exams. This is not an easy class at all. Exams: There are 3 exams and one final exam that IS cumulative. The exams got harder as the semester progessed. You need to know all of the vocabulary, without a doubt. She put the hardest vocab on the exams that you don't suspect. She is also a stickler for grammar. Quizzes: Relatively easy. I just studied for 30 minutes the night before and made good grades. However, you NEED to know the vocab to get through. Essays: There are two in class essays, and she gave both prompts available to the students the night before. She also gave +3 points back if you did essay corrections. Experiential Learning: This is the hardest thing to deal with, especially if you have a job. She requires 5 experiential learning, and only budged by letting us do some that we could do at home (house tour in spanish, recipe in spanish). You can also go to tutoring and it will count as credit. However, the easiest way to get these out of the way is to go to spanish events, that usually happen between 4-6 p.m., so I was never able to make them because I have a job. Oral: There are 3 listening assignments that you do in class, that are relatively easy, depending on whether or not you know the vocab for that section and listen closely. There is also two oral interviews: one for midterms and one final interview. The midterm oral exam takes place in lab, and depends on your lab professor. Her final oral interview takes place in her office, and you have to answer 4-8 questions, in detail, and in spanish. She also offered up to +3 points towards the final oral interview if you recorded yourself singing a song in spanish. Presentations: The class was put into pairs and each pair only had to give one presentation, and had to talk in between 2-3 minutes. All you gotta do is make a powerpoint and memorize 2 minutes worth of information. Overall: She's not a bad teacher, but anytime the class would ask for clarification, she would say to check canvas, instead of reviewing the material. She also has a tendency to go over things once in class, and expect you to master it for the exam. She's a pretty lenient grader, oh and also, she refuses to round up for anything. Have fun! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2320 - Best Spanish professor with super fun and engaging classes! She tries to help everyone speak Spanish in class, but understands if you can't come up with the words. Her class is super doable, quizzes and exams aren't too challenging if you do the homework and readings, and she is always willing to help because she wants everyone to succeed. She is super nice and her class is actually pretty fun as I actually look forward to going to class. Take her, she's the best!!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2320 - Señorita Fraga is BY FAR the best Spanish professor at Baylor! She understands that most of the students who take her class aren't Spanish majors, so she makes her class fun and engaging, and she doesn't make her tests too difficult! Even though the class is Spanish LITERATURE, in addition to the two stories a week, we would also watch movies, listen to songs, and refresh our grammar. I feel like my Spanish has improved so much just by being in her class for one semester. I DEFINITELY recommend you take her class!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1402 - Laura is the BEST PROFESSOR AT BAYLOR. Hands down. She is the best prof I have had over my course of two years at this school. She is well organized, diligent, and so engaging. She literally used up every second of our 8am class in the most productive and beneficial way. She never gave students wiggle room to goof off because we were always either discussing or doing an activity which was just perfect for spanish. You can tell she also just LOVES what she does from the over flow of joy she brings to class. I could go on and on about her. I wish all professors were like her! YOU HAVE TO TAKE HER. - Grade In Class:A
