Comments:Heritage - Personally not my cup of tea. There are only two grading sections, tests and quizzes. She gives out test guides with names but asks very specific questions so you have to know every detail. Nice lady, I just didn't enjoy the class overall.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1350 - While Professor Garcia always tries to make class engaging and manageable, I still would not recommend. After reading all of these reviews, I expected it to be easy and put in the work, but it was just never enough. Scriptures was a breeze, but her 10 minute quizzes absolutely took me out. It did not matter if I read, took extensive notes, or took them cold, I would get an 8 or 9 out of 10 every time. She does give study guides for the exams, but they are so general that I did not find them to be much help. The exams were not extremely difficult, but the issue was that they are mostly lecture based. The lectures were extremely hard to follow, and there is practically no information given on the slides. Your options are basically to do the EXTENSIVE reading and take copious notes which contains a lot of information that she will not test you on, or you can take heavy notes in class if you are able to follow the lectures. Still, she often skips or brushes past information. If you are okay with getting Bs, then this class is probably fine. But if you are looking for a more manageable heritage class as you have a heavier schedule, look elsewhere.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1350 - I cannot say enough good things about Dr.Garcia. Everyone at Baylor complains about Christian Heritage and how difficult it is, but she made it a breeze. You have weekly quizzes that are open note, and three exams. The final is not cumulative and her tests are super easy. She's also super fun in class and always lets you out early!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1350 - Dr. Garcia is a G.O.A.T. I had a horrible Christian Scriptures experience, so I thought Heritage was going to be even worse. Dr. Garcia did her best to make sure that didn't happen. If you simply pay attention, you'll do great. I didn't even buy the books, and I got great grades on the quizzes and exams. It was an easy-A, but also a fun one. She loves her dogs, and will want you to send her pictures of your animals that she will incorporate into the slides.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1350 - Take her for scriptures and heritage. If you hate studying the bible, then take her. If you love studying the bible, then take her. Just take her class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL 1350 - Garcia is a very outgoing and enthusiastic person. She brought a lot of energy and made the class more interesting especially considering that the content was pretty boring. Although she is a sweet individual, I felt that she made the class more difficult than it should be, especially for someone with no previous religious background. Her exams were a bit difficult and took a good amount of studying if you wanted to do well. She assigns a lot of reading that the quizzes and exams go over, which can be very time-consuming. She also tried doing a group project presentation that was not difficult to do, but she graded harshly considering that her rubric for the presentation was very vague. Overall, not a horrible teacher and you can definitely do well if you put in the effort, but I would recommend looking for someone better!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - Garcia was overall a pretty good and engaging professor but her exams were way more difficult than they should have been. For the first two exams I put in a solid amount of effort to learn everything in her study guides, yet was majorly frustrated when the exam required a vast and extensive knowledge not only of the things on the study guide, but also of random little details scattered throughout our readings. The final was thankfully not cumulative, but I still received a mid eighties grade after studying for over 15 hours and memorizing literally everything in the study guide. I honestly was quite disappointed in the grade I received in this class because of the amount of work I put in to get a good grade, even with the extra credit given. In essence, the exams are quite a bit harder than they need to be but at least she's entertaining in class and really engages her students. She is also a bit disorganized/flustered at times which I think leads to her being more entertaining but also has rather obvious consequences. As long as you are willing to put in the work, Garcia is a good professor to take but I can't say I would really recommend her.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - She is the sweetest soul and has very engaging slides. She includes students' pictures of dogs along with having little phone breaks in her class. She has weekly quizzes but they are only 10 questions. She is an awesome teacher, but her quizzes can be tricky sometimes. I’d really recommend knowing the smaller details. She does drop your 2 lowest quiz scores and offers extra credit. If you are going into the class with no knowledge of the bible, this class is for you. She is very understanding for all backgrounds and doesn’t assume you know the Bible perfectly. If you do her study guides and watch all the Bible projects, you will do good in her class.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:REL 1310 - Garcia's lectures are pretty good. Generally has a good amount of information in the lectures and typically you get out let early so that's a dub. The homework is read a couple chapters of one or two books from the CEB study bible and then a quiz due every Saturday night. These quizzes can go a long way towards hurting or saving your grade. Test are only from the lectures, however with that being said you cover a lot of material and the test are only 50 question.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:REL 1350 - Before I say anything, Yvette Garcia is one of the nicest humans on earth and really tried her best to make the classes fun and engaging for us. However, it is hard when you are teaching one of the most boring required GEN Ed's in the school. I got a B+ in this class partially because I didn't pay attention but partially because she had a big workload with hard tests if you wanted to do well. Don't let the high ratings on here deceive you, you will have to put in the work if you want a good grade. Her weekly quizzes are over a LARGE chunk of reading (I never read) and you have to take a quiz on it (10 minutes for ten questions) so you have to work extremely fast for this information, even if you took notes on the reading. They are difficult and she knows it, she even recommended to make an excel spread sheet for each reading quiz so that you can quickly search your notes for the answer. The tests were entirely on the powerpoints, so if you didn't pay attention to her lectures you are kinda screwed because she has different material than whats online and her powerpoints don't have any information on them, she expects you to take all the notes. The final was not cumulative which was nice, though. Again, awesome teacher, great person, just not a super easy class and you will have to be diligent with your work. I would still probably take her again because the other heritage teachers suck too.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1350 - Professor Garcia is awesome! I took her online REL 1350 class and she made it very manageable. Course consists of lecture videos, readings from textbook, quizzes, and 3 exams. Make sure to read the textbook to score well on the quizzes. Exams are over lectures so make sure you take notes. She does provide a study guide so make sure to fill it in and know everything on it to score well on the exams. Overall, I learned so much in this course and Professor Garcia tries her best to ensure students are successful.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1350 - Dr. Garcia is an amazing heritage professor! She doesn't have a big workload at all, so it is very easy to get things done in her class. Her lectures can sometimes be a bit boring, but I think that is mainly just because of content. She really cares about all of her students and wants everyone to do good in her class. In her presentations, she does brain breaks that can either be a video from a movie or pictures of students animals! She has weekly quizzes that come word for word from your readings. The quizzes are also open book. Her tests are actually really easy if you put in the work. She gives out a study guide about a week before the exam. As long as you fill out the study guide, and actually look over it (I suggest flashcards/Quizlet) you will be perfectly fine in the class! She is honestly an amazing professor, and I would love to have her again.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1350 - This class was AMAZING and Dr. Garcia literally always made my day with how much fun she was in class. She is a super sweet and funny professor, but also she was very willing to help reexplain topics to students and reformat exams if she realized the class was struggling with a particular topic. Overall, I would highly recommend taking Dr. Garcia, super easy to learn from her, and even easier to have fun in class!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL 1350 - I LOVED this class so much. I was recommended by friends who had taken her for REL 1310, and she lived up to expectations! The lectures are very helpful, and her tests came straight from lectures; essentially, quizzes were all book based and the 3 tests (each 25%) were all from lecture. She also has study guides that cover everything on the test. If you do the readings for the quizzes and pay attention during lecture, you should be ok! The brain breaks and pictures of class pets were also really nice to have on longer lectures. 10/10 recommend!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL 1310 - I have absolutely no Christian background, and Garcia was a great teacher to immerse me into this new subject. Her lectures are decent (not too boring, but can feel a bit tedious) but she includes "brain breaks" which are mini videos of her favorite shows/movies. There is no homework, just weekly quizzes which are open-note and 3 exams. Do the reading from the textbook and you'll do fine on the quizzes. Wait until after the lecture too as some of the questions are answered in the lecture. She gives out study guides for her exams, and just understand it all and you'll do fine on exams too. She gives out extra credit if you answer random questions she asks in class- and by taking the course eval and making a 50% or higher on the departmental quiz. Overall, great teacher.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1350 - Y'all take her if you can; she's amazing. She puts pictures of dogs and cats on the slides, shows movie clips (ask her about the time she was on Impractical Jokers), and overall does everything to make church history interesting. As long as you do the readings (for the quizzes) and memorize the study guides she gives you (super short, not time consuming), you will be fine. She genuinely cares about her students and always checks in to make sure we're ok and not too stressed (and if we are then she will move assignments or otherwise adjust). Gives plenty of extra credit and is always willing to work with you whatever the situation may be.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1350 - PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND TAKE GARCIA!!! I genuinely enjoy Heritage because of her. The lectures are interesting and she includes pictures of your pets in the slides. She'll pause and talk with you about them and then start teaching again. She provides short brain breaks, which are usually movie clips from a movie she loves, during her lectures, so you can check your phone and relax for a second. She is an interesting person and passionate about church history. Our first exam was open book open note, but our second one wasn't. The closed book test was so so easy. People finished the test in 7 minutes. She provided a brief outline and all yo had to do was know the information on it and you were guaranteed an A. Only downside is that her classes are a smaller size (30-40 students) compared to other professors, so she does fill up quickly, but if you can take her, DO IT!!!! We weekly 10 question quizzes that have a 10 minute limit, but you can use your books and notes. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1350 - Dr.Garcia is a great teacher who keeps lectures very close to the book, touching on the important areas of our reading. Throughout the semester she was always respectful to others religious views in her teaching and was very good at teaching without a bias. Along with this, I found her care for students particularly touching as she truly does care about her students well-being. Though most of what you need to know for quizzes and tests are found in the books and in lecture, Dr.Garcia was very open to clarifying questions after class or through email which was very helpful. The quizzes and tests are fair and what you put in is what you get out. If you have the opportunity to get Dr.Garcia, she is a great professor and a very kind person!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1350 - With a minimal amount of effort, this class is an easy A. All the test questions come from either the books or the powerpoints. The lecture videos were really hit or miss, i found that she often just read what was on the powerpoints so after the first test i never watched them. She always gave us a heads up by telling us what was going to be on the tests and she offered extra credit. Also, there is 1 to 2 quizzes weekly that she pulls questions from either the book or powerpoints and she drops that lowest 2.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:REL1310 - Dr. Garcia is the sweetest lady in the whole wide world. I came into class not knowing a lot about Christian Scripture, but she did an amazing job explaining the content and answering my questions. She genuinely cares about her students' well-being, and it shows every single day. If you can get into her class, definitely do it! Her quizzes are super fair and so are the tests, everything is very straightforward and not meant to trick you.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1350 - Professor Garcia is the best possible Heritage professor. Whether your looking to just get the class out of the way, or genuinely want to know more about Christian history, Garcia makes it easy to do either! Every week, there are quizzes on readings from one of the two textbooks, and she lets you use the book! She also drops two of the twelve quizzes at the end of the semester. There is a departmental quiz that she does not count; she only counts it as two bonus points on any test if you can manage to make a 50% or more! She sends out the notes before class, and you just fill in the blanks as she goes over the powerpoints. She provides study guides that are identical to the notes and to the tests themselves. She is also so nice and genuinely cares about everyone! She's enthusiastic about what she teaches. She also makes it a point to get to know about everyone's pets. It's amazing. TAKE HER!!!  - Grade In Class:A
