Comments:Audit - Audit is hard and a lot of work no matter what. There's a giant group project over the whole semester so get with smart/friendly people. He personally was super nice! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:ACC 4330 - Let me preface this review by saying audit is a hard class no matter who you take. Going into this class, I was told by upperclassmen it would be challenging, but I had no idea to what degree. You are either REALLY good in this class or you're REALLY bad, there is no in between. Despite my difficulty with this course, I had no issue with Dr. Mowchan. He is extremely knowledgeable about the subject matter and is extremely responsive if you have any questions in person or email. He starts each class with relevant news articles surrounding the accounting world which I thought was pretty interesting. He's also a super cool guy if you take the chance to get to know him in his office hours. What I will say though, the exams are freaking brutal. They are all questions from previous CPA exams which already have a low pass rate from people that actually study this material. There is basically no form of math or calculation you do with numbers, so if you're a big numbers guy like me, you might find yourself struggling. All the MC's are "choose the best answer" form which is why it is so difficult. Course had quite a big workload especially the semester long Oceanview assignment. Make sure to sit with your friends or at least a smart group of people to be on your team. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:ACC 4330 - He's a great professor. I didn't enjoy the oceanview assignments, but they were helpful for your exam since they are kind of like real-life examples. Audit is a low-key hard class but if you get the hang of it you should be fine. I didn't have or read the textbook. He covers the material with videos that you watch before class. He goes over the same material in class as the video but more in-depth. Overall I enjoyed his class and recommend taking him. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:ACC 4330 - I'm not sure why Mowchan doesn't have a higher rating. He is a fantastic professor and explains all of the concepts in class very clearly. He repeats the important concepts over and over that is hard to forget them. The tests are hard, because it has CPA level questions. He is super available and wants to help his students succeed. The workload is heavy and consists of group projects, but still doable. Overall, an amazing prof. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:ACC 4330 - Not gonna lie, audit is low-key really hard, but Dr. Mowchan is an incredible professor and wants you to succeed. The class consists of tests, a comprehensive final, a semester-long integrated audit case, quizzes, and miscellaneous projects. There is a huge learning curve at the beginning because the tests and quizzes come straight from becker and past CPA questions (the "most right" answer type of questions), but, as he will say, people get better over time. Do the becker and tableau extra credit and watch the lectures before class; do not read the textbook. You'll do great! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4330 - Dr. Mowchan is a wonderful professor. It was his first semester at Baylor, but he had previous teaching experience. He also used to work in Big Four and would give insight in class connecting real Audit experience to our learning. He would also start class with Accounting industry news and this was very beneficial to know what was happening in the career field we were looking to go into come graduation. Dr. Mowchan would create group quizzes, and individual tests based on CPA Audit Questions. While that made the questions difficult, it is the best way to prepare for the CPA Exam. He also would help you break down the questions and give you good tips to understand what was being asked of you. There were a lot of Extra Credit opportunities that were also great practice for the CPA. Dr. Mowchan was very available in office hours and willing to help you and your team to understand the Ocean View Project. There was also an Excel Multiple Regression Analysis project that was a very interesting assignment that I don't believe other classes did. It was a great practical application of statistics in the Audit practice. Overall I had a good experience with Dr. Mowchan and will recommend him to students. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:4330 - Dr. Mowchan was a great audit professor! When I took him, it was his first semester at Baylor, so he was still getting used to the university. However, that did not have a negative impact on his teaching availability. He was very helpful whenever I would go into his office for questions and in class. There are many group projects, but that's how the real world works (in teams). Quizzes are all group quizzes. There's many chances for extra credit, so do the Becker and Tableau assignments. The Oceanview project can be confusing at times, but Mowchan was helpful if my team had questions. He made class as interesting as possible by providing examples of what was going on in the world related to auditing. It was also a fun class, and we had a lot of laughs. Take him! You won't regret it! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:4330 - Michael Mowchan was a new professor at Baylor when I took his class. He had taught Audit at American University, and had some experience teaching. However, I was not pleased with his teaching ability and performance as a professor. On multiple occasions, going to office hours or asking questions provided little insight on assignments, which led to points being deducted for medial things that provided no value to the student. Furthermore, Professor Mowchan would create tests and ask questions in which he did not know the answer. A great example of this was when I went to his office to ask a few particular questions, and he had to refer to the Instructor\\\'s Manual to provide an answer. That being said, the class is manageable and 36 points out of 1000 points of extra credit were provided. That being said, I would not take him again for audit, or a qualitative class, but a quantitive class such as financial or managerial accounting would be adequate but not preferred. One good note - he grades things very fast! - Grade In Class:A
