Comments:SPA2324 - McGraw is the goat. While there is homework almost every class, he is always happy to help. The exams are take-home and online. He speaks clearly and I learned just as much about business as I did Spanish. The final was a Shark Tank project and while it required a lot of collaboration and effort with my partner, I had fun doing it. Definitely take McGraw.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 1412 - Dr. McGraw is the best Spanish instructor I've ever had. The class is entirely conversation-based, which really allows you to grasp the language. If you're struggling at any point, he is always open to meet with you after class or during office hours. There are daily homework assignments that prep you for class, and they're honestly really helpful. There are also quizzes nearly every day, but they're not worth much since there are so many so it's nothing to stress too much about. The exams are a bit intense because there are 5 (including the final), but he gives you a lot of help and an outline of the exam before you take it (usually a day or two before). There are also two oral exams, but he's understanding on those and grades generously. Overall, Dr. McGraw is wonderful at teaching the language because he prioritizes actual speaking AND gives cultural context which helps it be more clear in the English-speaker's mind. Take him if you have the chance!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 1302 - This class was way harder than I thought it would be. Do NOT take Dr. McGraw if you are just trying to fulfill your requirement. His class is meant for people who are very dedicated to learning Spanish. The class is 100% conversation based and all of your participation is from daily conversations. There are not any PowerPoints/presentations. Everything is verbal (except for exams). He is dedicated to teaching people to speak Spanish, he calls himself a "language coach" rather than a teacher and that is very accurate. I think Dr. McGraw is a nice guy but he teaches in a way that doesn't work for everyone. If you are a visual learner don't take this class, if you are a verbal/ conversational learner he is a great professor. The class discussions are based on your daily homework so do it every day. Missing class will put you behind almost instantly. He is a good guy but can be a harsh grader and isn't the most accommodating.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:HIS 2V89 - Dr. McGraw's prior service in the Marine Corps makes him one of the best suited professors to lead the Model Organization of American States Program; he also tells stories about his time in the Marines and its always so fascinating to listen to him talk. This class is not a typical lecture based class, instead you are working independently or with another student to create a policy resolution to then be debated at the Model Competitions either here in Texas during the Fall semester, or in Washington D.C. during the Spring semester. This class is perfect if you are interested in Latin American culture and politics, international affairs, or just like to debate policy. Dr. McGraw and the other students in the class make learning the process very easy and make sure that you are supported and confident before conference. The course is also listed under the Political Science and Modern Language departments and can be adapted to your schedule so that you don't go over on hours.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - I’m really surprised this guy has any negative reviews at all. I got lucky on the placement test and skipped Spanish 1301 despite knowing no Spanish, I failed the first test and few quizzes of 1302, but over the semester professor McGraw really went above and beyond and I ended up doing well in the class as well as being able to speak a good amount of Spanish. The class is active and engaging, you’re constantly communicating with your classmates and that really helps you to learn as a group, even if you usually prefer to learn on your own like myself. McGraw taught us about many elements of Spanish culture, as well as sharing relevant and entertaining stories from his past. Most of the courses I’ve taken at Baylor have either been extremely easy and taught me almost nothing, or taught me the material while being excessively difficult to succeed in. This course was the perfect balance, not ridiculously challenging but also rigorous enough to get your money’s worth. Overall, a funny guy who really wants to help students learn.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1302 - Honestly a really nice guy but I took him after reading the reviews because I thought it would be an easy class and that is not the case. 100% take him if you want to learn the language because he is a great teacher, but I took it just because it's required and wasn't able to study for this class as much as my others. If you're in the same position, then find someone else.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2310 - Dr. McGraw is the first spanish teacher that actually helped me learn and apply Spanish. How he teaches is that the day before every class there is a 30 minute hw assignment to complete about what you are going to learn the next day, very easy and on quizlet. He then explains it a little bit in class but mainly asks questions and conversates with the class in Spanish to solidify what you learned with the hw. He is super understanding and funny. He does put you on the spot sometimes by calling on you, but does not humiliate you if you don't know the answer. Tests are pretty basic as long as you know the vocab of the chapter and the grammar rules you learned. Easily the best Spanish teacher I've ever had high school and college. Take McGraw.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - Prof McGraw is great. The class is mostly discussion based, so be prepared to speak often in class. The homework is the online textbook assignments, so you can find most of it on quizlet. Tests were not too difficult; he tells you what is on them and prepares you well for them. I recommend him; he's the best foreign language teacher I've ever had.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - I had Dr. McGraw for both 1301 and 1302. I knew zero Spanish walking into his class. After taking my Spanish 2 final yesterday, I can confidently say that I believe I have learned enough to carry a basic conversation, which is more than I ever thought I could have accomplished. It is all due to Dr. McGraw. He is patient, yet holds you to a high standard, genuinely wanting you to succeed. He is an incredible professor, but even more so, a kind man. This semester, one of my family members had serious medical issues, forcing me to have to miss multiple classes and quizzes. Dr.McGraw was understanding and adaptive, helping me to not fall far behind my classmates. He truly wants you to succeed. HIs ultimate goal is not for you to necessarily get a good grade, but that you learn and begin to love the language, which is most important. PLEASE TAKE DR. MCGRAW!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA1301 - I can honestly understand why Dr. McGraw is rated as highly as he is. He is funny, charismatic, and if you’re in Spanish for the long haul he would be a great professor. But if all you need is one or two Spanish credits and do not plan on pursuing Spanish more then you need to, find a different professor. Dr. McGraw is one of the harshest graders I have had in college and I am on my final year right now. He counts off for spelling or if you forgot to put the accent mark above a word, and he also counts off for sentences if he deems them incomplete even if you don’t have the necessary vocabulary to properly finish it in a better way. He only lets you speak Spanish during class and he doesn’t teach at all during the class lessons. He will talk only in Spanish and expect you to do the same. Any learning for yourself you’re supposed to do for yourself before class on the homework assignments. This is a 1301 introductory Spanish class but he treats it as another professor would a 3rd level Spanish class and he gives absolutely no leniency for his students in terms of grading. It’s sad that Spanish 1301 ended up being the only B I ever got in Baylor University besides a 4 level science class from my junior year. If you take Dr. McGraw for SPA 1301 I hope you’re planning on minoring in Spanish.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:SPA 2324 - INCREDIBLE PROFESSOR! The class is well organized and planned out. Throughout the semester we had daily reflections (not bad at all!), quizzes for each chapter, a presentation, and a few specific writing assignments. I know this might sound like a lot, but trust me when I say Dr. McGraw will set you up for success for each of these. ALL content found on the quizzes is discussed in class and ALL writing assignments come with a template to follow. Daily reflections are pretty straight forward and he will let you know which pages contain the information relevant to the questions. Overall, I really enjoyed his class. Content discussions were great and he would always take the time to check in on each of us. I also wanted to address something someone previously said about him calling on people...HE WILL CALL ON YOU BUT HE WILL NOT EMBARRASS YOU. The point of the class is to learn Spanish and an important component of this is speaking and practicing. Not being a native speaker can make this bit uncomfortable and automatically makes you not want to participate. Dr. McGraw is simply interested in your improvement and effort so yes he will call on you to ensure you are understanding. Don't ever be afraid of not knowing the answer to a question in class! He is patient and understanding.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2324 - I literally made an account to combat the negative review of this class. I personally love this course. It is not hard in the slightest and Dr. McGraw works to ensure the success of the students. His quizzes are easy, especially if you pay attention to the questions he asks in class. Overall, he is kind (especially to non-native speakers) and makes this class enjoyable. I am not even a business major, but the concepts are not difficult. He is a wonderful teacher and this is a wonderful course. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a Spanish course credit.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2324 - I could not recommend Dr. McGraw more highly! Spanish for Business is a small niche class with only about 10 people that Dr. McGraw teaches in a sort of discussion based way, where you will read a couple pages of the textbook the night before, have a short reflection over it, and dive in deep and unpack that topic about Latin-American business the next day. He is patient with his students and makes it so people who are not native speakers can succeed. He is an ex-Marine and he has many stories about being stationed in the countries we're learning about, which make the class that much more interesting. Dr. McGraw will be patient with you and help you improve your Spanish while teaching you about business in Spanish speaking countries. TAKE 2324!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2324 - He should not have a 98 so I am posting to give a more realistic expectation for potential students. I had to drop his class early in the semester because I was so frustrated with how he conducted this class. He will pick on and embarrass students that are less comfortable with speaking Spanish and make them feel inferior. He thinks he is "stretching" the student to grow their ability but goes too far and is plain mean. I took three semesters of Spanish at Baylor before his class and did very well (all A's). I knew that I could not be successful in his class. Be warned.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:2320 - Absolutely loved this class and professor McGraw. He is really kind and cares for his students. One time I forgot to fill out the back page of a quiz and he let me fill it out and email him my answers. The workload is super manageable. You just have to fill out 1 worksheet a week. You will either listen to a song or read a short story and fill out a worksheet. There were maybe 5 quizzes. 2 tests andH a final. He tells you what to study and they were not difficult. Highly recommend taking him!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - I have never written a review for a professor before, but Mark McGraw is SO good that I had to. As others have stated, any bad reviews probably come from someone who didn't want the class to fill up during registration. He is undoubtedly the best Spanish teacher at Baylor, and most of your learning is facilitated IN CLASS with very little outside work. His quizzes are all things that you have heard a thousand times before in class, and he truly tries to make sure everyone is prepared enough to ace them. I cannot imagine anyone making below an A or a B at the absolute lowest unless you absolutely blow off the class. He made Spanish fun, and I looked forward to going to class every day! He's a very nice guy, and he'll make you laugh and feel confident about speaking a new language.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - If you truly want to learn Spanish, take McGraw. His class is enjoyable to attend and it is 50 minutes every MWF that you actually engage in Spanish. Spanish in highschool was a joke but this is the real deal. He is a great teacher and wants you to succeed. Tests were not hard and it honestly is hard to not get an A on them if you go to class. Homework was 3 times a week before class time and really is an easy completion grade. I highly recommend McGraw. I will also be taking him for 1302.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - I never write these types of reviews, but I PROMISE any bad comments about McGraw are probably because they don't want other people to find out how good he is and fill up his class in registration. McGraw is not only an amazing Spanish prof, but he's one of the best profs I've ever had. I hated Spanish in highschool bc I was failing but I have a 98 in this class and actually enjoy Spanish now bc I'm learning the language instead of just memorizing it. Plus it's super easy and slow-paced. We only have MAX 2 pages of reading every other night, the online hw takes 5 min, and the quizzes every once in a while aren't hard at all. McGraw is funny and he's rare in that he truly cares abt whether u succeed or not. I can't imagine not getting an A in this class.  - Grade In Class:A
