Comments:3315 - Dr. Horton comes across as a nice lady at the start; however, she makes this class insanely difficult for no reason. She stated in class that "most students are B-range writers" and that we should be proud to get a B in this class, which is very frustrating for students trying to keep a high GPA. She has a lot of completion grades, which is really nice and her prep for the writing skills exam was very useful, but for the assignments graded for content it's difficult to get an A. She also has a very condescending tone when answering students questions and is really unhelpful. Overall, I would avoid taking her if possible.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:BUS 3315 - Dr. Horton was a good lady at the core but had zero issues picking obvious favorites (seen in the reviews) or being extremely passive aggressive towards members of the class. Class itself was often engaging and I actually got some useful material and experience out of the course. She grades pretty aggressively and has no problem deducting large amounts of points without great explanation. There is one assignment in the first few weeks of the semester that is worth 25% of the course and it is a common grade wrecker. There is no grade rounding at all (not even 0.01%) and the grade scale is wonky. For example, a 86.99 is a flat B and a 89.99% is still a B+, and so on. I understand this is stated in the syllabus, but come on. You need to see her in class or in office hours (or writing center) with any questions or to review your work before turning it in before you expect an A. Also, there were times where she told the class that she would not be responding to grade concerns about certain assignments at all. If I had the opportunity to take this class with a different teacher, I would.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:BUS 3315 - Horton is an amazing professor and you will genuinely learn so much in her class. I was even able to talk about her class and what I learned in job interviews. And I actually used the cover letters and LinkedIn bios we did in class when applying to internships and got the job of my choice. Overall, you will learn a lot and the work you do will go beyond the class. On the other hand, she is an incredibly hard grader. I barely got an A-. Worked very hard on my assignments and got Bs (despite having As in all my other English classes). Every writing assignment we did, she would give in depth feedback on where we could improve and we would write reflections on her corrections. Not an easy A but the class was really manageable.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BUS 3315 - Dr. Horton is an extremely amazing person. She is super personable & wants to make class a warm, serene environment that you want to come to. There is hardly any work you have to do in her class, with about one decently big writing assignment due every few weeks. Which I know she is much lighter on than other professors. However, if you go into this class expecting to just get in A because you got an A in all of your other English classes, you will not succeed. Dr. Horton's goal is to make you a better writer, not just give you an A because whatever you wrote met the basic criteria. She is a straightshooter and grades you based on how you actually wrote. That will probably be a B (take a look in the mirror once in a while why don't ya). The highest grade on a big assignment was probably a 97-98, which I think is adequate because if you give something a 100 & another writing piece is better than the first one, how do you score that? Every other assignment is just completion. So, if you are looking to vastly improve as a writer, I plead you take Dr. Horton.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3315 - Michal Horton is a decent professor. Her class isn't too hard if you stay on top of things and she doesn't ask that much of you. She grades harshly and can be extremely passive-aggressive in addition to picking favorites. She gets visibly annoyed and can be immature when something bothers her, but if you're willing to put up with it, the class is fine. There were about 3 writing assignments, presenting at least once sometimes in the semester for 7 minutes at the beginning of class, and the final exam which was not bad at all. Overall the class was tolerable, but the professor was not.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3315 - Sweet lady, good professor. Class is a requirement. basically english class for business. Explains concepts well. Grades kinda hard on the major assignments. Overall was fine. Would recommend.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BUS 3315 - Good person, solid teacher. Her teaching style is "interesting" to say the least. Not a terrible class if you need it.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3315 - I like Dr. Horton. I think she's a good person, but I disagree with her philosophy on grading. At the beginning of the semester, she told a story about how a student in a previous semester would have gotten an A, but he got COVID and missed an assignment. She said she did not allow him to make it up / turn it in late because "that's how the real world works" (or something to that effect). Along with this, she is a tough grader - highest grade on any non-completion assignment across all classes was a 95 - which is made worse by the fact that an A is a 93. If you're not already a good writer, I imagine it's fairly difficult to get an A in this course (not sure if it's different with other teachers). I would look into the internship option of Dr. Horton's section because I heard it's an A if you just complete all the assignments.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3315 - This class is very much a business school filler course and it is going to be a pain no matter who you get. With that being said, I really enjoyed Dr. Horton. If you're willing to get to know her, she is really kind and funny. Definitely schedule office hours with her or go to the writing center before you submit any assignments. From what I can tell, our class had fewer "concrete" deadlines than some of the other BComm classes, which is great, especially when it comes to the group project at the end of the semester. The departmental exam sucks, but it's the departmental exam so you really can't do much about it. Overall, if you're a solid writer and you put in a little bit of effort, you should be fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3315 - She grades extremely hard for no reason. She also seems nice but is very passive aggressive for no reason.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:3315 - This class also broke my 4.0 GPA. She grades incredibly hard for a business gen ed. She also refuses to curve even .01 up. Don't take if you want an easy A. Looking past that, she is a sweet and personable person and does do a good job preparing you for the departmental writing skills exam which other sections really seemed to struggle with. There is a group presentation at the end but it was not bad at all.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:3315 - This class broke my 4.0 :( the class is not difficult, but she grades unnecessarily hard. For the portfolio assignment worth 25% of our grade, the class high was a 93 (An A is a 93). It was hard to get an A. It was also evident that she picked favorites. Overall, it was not a hard class but just disheartening and annoying.   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:BUS 3315 - This is an interesting course. Essentially, you are going to be taking an english class for business majors. You will be writing linkedin bios, cover letters, sales sheets, bad news messages, and have to reflect on all of them. Horton is an extremely nice professor, but going to this class requires a lot of motivation because it isn't the most exciting stuff. I had to work pretty hard to get an A, but she does offer extra credit that you have to do! It is so easy and boosts your grade about 1-2% (which will make a difference in the end). Week to week, the workload is light with maybe 30 min of homework per class. On the weeks where you have a bigger project, make sure to start them early and utilize her office hours to get feedback on your assignment (she will pretty much rewrite it for you and you'll get an A on the assignment). Overall, this class isn't that exciting, but Horton is a nice lady and I would recommend her.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BUS3315 - Horton is a really sweet professor. You definitely have to work to get an A, and I recommend going to her office hours before submitting any projects. Her grading is a bit intense, but she means well and genuinly wants everyone to succeed. I really liked her  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:BUS 3315 - I thought Dr. Horton was genuinely sweet and helpful. Some class lectures were boring, but others were important to attend to learn grammar and to do assignments correctly. 30% of your grade is basically completion as long as you put in the work and time to complete it. Projects and presentations make up 60% of your grade, which you have to spend a lot of time on to do well. It's important to write your drafts, then spend the most time on editing!! Dr. Horton lays out her expectations for every assignment, so you'll know how to do well on these. The last 10% is the departmental writing skills test (my lowest grade), which is like the English portion of the SAT, so you can't fully prepare for it. I finished the class right on the border of an A, so it was not an easy A, but as long as you put in the work, you will do well. I grew a lot as a writer because of Dr. Horton.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Bus 3315 - This course is made a lot more difficult than need be by this prof and her "helpful" ness felt fake and calculated. Plethora of passive aggressive comments made throughout the semester and overall attitude just felt condescending. The grading is unnecessarily harsh and justification was weak.Don't recommend   - Grade In Class:B+
