*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:MTH 3326 - He is really nice and his goal is for sure for you to understand the material rather than just memorize it. We had 9 quizzes but 2 were drops and every three quizzes there is a test. The tests were hard but he does prepare you for what will be on them and they are somewhat like the quizzes. The homework is optional but the tests were very similar to the homework. I could have done better in the class if I did the homework but I didn't start looking at the hw til before the last test oops. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:MTH3326 - So heres the thing. He explains very well, and wants you to truly truly understand (like fully comprehend) everything he teaches. but that can turn badly. He makes you explain parts of the problem, like he will give you z(0,y) =3, and then ask you what that means. He requires you to have very specific wording or else it is completely wrong. ie. the answer to that is "the outward flux normal to the boundary at the left endpoint is fixed at 3" but if you say "heat is flowing out on the left side at 3" it is wrong (but you are still explaining it correctly). My advise is have him write out or check your interpretations for every single condition before any quiz and test. Also make sure you use everything like he did, a different wording or letter for a constant or letter for a made up formula WILL be counted wrong. he is a great teacher but he has super high expectations and grades really harshly. He will also ask dumb questions you were never prepped for. I would not recommend this class unless you need it or are supppper good at math (concept and calculation). - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3323 - This class is known for sucking, but Davis made it not just bearable, but actually enjoyable. Analysis is known for being incredibly difficult, But Davis' ability to break down the concepts and explain them in a way I could understand was unlike what I've seen any other professor be able to do. He was also available a lot of the time, and if you get him talking about something he will never stop (I have never spent less than 2 hours in his office, hours so brace yourself if you need help). If you take him for an "easy A", he will see right through you, and you will not have a great time. However, if you care about what you are doing, he will see that and reward it. He makes it pretty clear that you will get what he believes you deserve, so he curves and rounds final grades generously. The only bad thing is that he does group homework, which everybody hated, and got pretty bad grades in. Overall, if you care about math and want a good professor to get to know, take Davis! Otherwise, he is probably not your guy. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - Dr. Davis is the best math teacher I have ever had. He is very reasonable with his homework and usually doesn't give you a million problems to do. He teaches at the pace of the class and answers any questions that people have, which is amazing. He is always available for office hours, which I took full advantage of. He was always so kind, helpful, and engaging. His quizzes are pretty simple and his exams are only a little more difficult, but very reasonable. If you already took Calculus in high school, this class is pretty simple, and his teaching style and demeanor makes it even better! The content is pretty straightforward (I mean- as straightforward as math can be). Overall, if you do your homework, and practice before an exam, you should have no problems doing well! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - SUMMER- The course itself is not difficult and the homework is not too bad. The workload is only a lot because there is so much material to cram into a summer session. His tests are insane and harder than the homework. He also does not give credit for correct answers, so with the right answer, you can still get a 0. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:ODE - Dr. Davis has to be one of my favorites at Baylor. He teaches the material extremely well and he is also just a nice guy. I would take him over and over again if I could. I learned so much and I made a good grade. You definitely have to work and study but I mean it is supposed to be a hard class. I was nervous about taking ode but Dr. Davis really just knows what he doing. Take him! For real! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:MTH 3325 - Dr. Davis is by far my favorite math professor at Baylor, and I will definitely try to take him again. His tests were super easy and almost everyone got an A or B in the class. He makes ODE pretty fun actually and I always left class happy. He was also very helpful during office hours and is always cracking hilarious jokes in class - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3325 - This class is very doable. He is very good at explaining concepts in a step by step process which I really like. The tests are essentially mirror images of the homework. I will say though that his lectures are EXTREMELY boring. He is basically the most normal person I have ever met. He seems like a genius. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:PDE - Dr. Davis is a smart guy. He explains material very well. His class is fairly difficult, but not impossible. HOWEVER, Dr. Davis is the most insufferable person I've ever had the misfortune to take a class from in my entire time at Baylor. He's full of himself, rude to students, and assumes everyone is out to get him/pull the wool over his eyes/cheat in his class. Just not a nice person. Also, his textbook is one of the worst you'll ever use. Frequently does a complicated derivation and then instead of explaining it, the book will literally say "be sure you understand why". The book is also full of errors, he actually has to hand out a full page of errors to everyone in his class on the first day. Avoid if possible. I did fairly well in his class, but I still hated every minute I spent with him as a professor. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:4316 - Very great teacher. But really harsh. You need to work really hard and he is really helpful. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:4316 - Davis is very smart and enjoys what he does. He made the class interesting and his notes were very easy to follow. He is there for help if you need it but sometimes he expects you to take a more abstract view than the class demanded, using alot of his PDE knowledge for a linear algebra class. Overall a great professor if you want to go beyond the concepts. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:PDE - First math class at baylor below an A. absolutely terrible teacher. Never available and if he has something better to do while in his office, he will kick you out. Also, you use his book (worst math book I've ever seen). Avoid at all costs. - Grade In Class:D
Comments:1322 (Summer) - Dr. Davis is a wonderful professor. He was able to explain everything really clearly, and he made everything fit together. He was always available if you wanted to talk about one of the problems. Take Dr. Davis if you want to really understand Calculus and why it's important. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3325 - He does an amazing job at explaining the material. Maybe because it's just easy stuff, but he is extremely clear and organized in his lectures. Just do the assigned hw problems and you'll be fine. The quizzes and exams are straight from the homework. I would definitely recommend taking Dr. Davis. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3326 PDE - Great teacher. Really cares about you actually understanding the material and not just being able to "run the numbers". He explained concepts we had been doing since Cal 1 and never truly understood. Tests are fair, but are given as to see if you actually have done the homework and understand it. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:PDE - Davis is a brilliant guy who has a knack for breaking down very complicated problems step by step and coming down to your level as a student instead of expecting you to come up to his level as a professor. Not an easy teacher, but exceedingly fair, this is what university teachers should be like. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3326 - Best math professor I have EVER had! He really knows how to communicate math well. He is very easy to talk to, he makes himself very available with office hours, which I found EXTREMELY helpful. Not a blowoff class. Most fulfilling math class I have ever taken. He uses a program called mathematica, which is kinda intimidating at times, but it REALLY helps you visualize and better understand what the heck the solution to a PDE means. Weekly quizzes, daily hw that takes a good amount of time. He recently wrote his own PDE textbook, which I found very helpful to have the writer of the book teaching the class. Take him! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Math 1321 Honors - Davis was a jerk when I had him. The only good thing about him is that he drops 2 quiz grades and he doesn't take attendance. His tests are insanely hard and doesn't give credit for correct answers. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:1321-Honors - Dr. Davis was a great professor, he really knows his stuff and is willing to help students when they need it. Not too much homework, tests and quizzes were reasonably difficult. I definitely recommend his class! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2311 - Davis is very well spoken and knows how to communicate it. I have taken a couple of courses with him and would HIGHLY recommend him to everyone, of course you must do HMWRK but come on now, this is college... Very easy to talk to and very interesting to listen to him relate the subject matter to the REAL WORLD, only Davis and Henderson can do that well in the BU math Dept. TAKE HIM!!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1321 - He is a really good teacher, seriously, he knows his stuff and can communicate it very well. At the same time his tests are REDICULOUS, watch out and study, you can't get away with not studying. At the end of our semester he exchanged our lowest test grade for the final grade if it would help. He doesn't really communicate much outside of class, I could never find him since his office hours were like 10-11 when everyone already has class. So in class, great. Out of class, can never find him, probably off thinking of some ridiculous test questions for kids to bomb. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1381 - His tests are pretty hard, especially if you don't have a good background in math. If you keep up with homework each week the quizzes will be easy. He taught very well and if you're a math person I think you will do very well in his class. He was a great professor and I liked him a lot! - Grade In Class:C

Comments:Had him for Math 3326 (Partial Differential Equations). I was surprised how much he related everything in his teaching back to engineering and physics concepts, real world stuf, even when he was showing us theory of pde's. Beware since he likes to use Mathematica software in his class which you have to get used to. But once you do, it is okay since you only have to follow examples he gives you. It does help you "see" the stuff from class. Intimidating at first, he is organized and explains stuff several times. This is NOT a blow-off class. Overall, really good.
Comments:If you are looking for an "easy" A, look elsewhere. However, if you want to really learn calculus from someone who is organized and extremely good at teaching it, then Dr. Davis is the one for you. He expects you to work at learning math as much as he works at teaching it. I liked this challenge, but some may not. I found him approachable in and out of class. I felt like he really wanted me to understand and love math like he does. His tests are hard (study each day and don't just cram before test time) but fair. If you do well on his tests, the departmental final will be easy. He was the most challenging math teacher I have had, but at the same time, the best.
Comments:Communicates material well to the students. Always willing to help and very sincere. One the very best!
Comments:I thought he was a really great professor. He is willing to help you outside of class. You have got to do your homework, his tests are pretty hard, but he will help you out at the end of the term.
