Comments:REL 1310 - I chose to take Dunbar even after reading poor reviews which I can now personally verify. On a personal level she is quite clearly emotional and disrespectful to those who disagree with her feminist or racial ideas. Those with traditional ideals were singled out and pushed back on - while minorities or females were allowed free reign to express their progressive interpretations of the Bible without critique. Everyone should be allowed to express their opinions regardless of being progressive, conservative, liberal, whatever it may be, but it's obvious if what you say does not align with Dunbar's agenda, its safe to say she will not let it slide and she WILL attempt to humiliate you or push back. On a teaching level it does not get better in the slightest. You are not allowed to use technology, she goes through slides faster than you can write, she will not post the slides, she gives "study guides" that are just graded pop-quizes that you are not allowed to take home to study. You're actually not allowed to take anything home or review past quizes. You are not allowed to ask questions about material on quizes or exams either. Her reasoning for this is she does not want to reveal the quetsions, but she brings it to the point where you dont even know what to study, probably because all she talks about in class is race and gender ideas in the Bible, this would normally be fine but it has nothing to do with the graded material. Theres much more to complain about but I think anyone who read this gets to point, don't take her if you have the choice.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3305 - Dr. Dunbar has easily been one of the best professors I've had at Baylor. She has always been helpful and straightforward in her teaching/assignments. We had reading protocols with a couple of questions about the reading. As long as you actually engaged with the reading, it was an easy 100. There were also 2 group presentations, which were easy, and a solo presentation that was easy as well. As far as the content goes, Dr. Dunbar has no issue engaging in the Bible and working to deepen our understanding of the text, even if that means traversing the uncomfortable parts most of us skip when reading our Bibles. All in all, there are not enough kind words to say about Dr. Dunbar. If you're not interested in having difficult conversations or considering other perspectives than your own, take someone else. If you are, take this professor. Her TA, Jenn, is equally excellent and cares about her students.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4305 - I can totally understand all the freshman reviews on here however in the upper level courses I found her to be quite good. I don't think we agree on a single theological metric... I spent the first 2 weeks just contemplating how heretical her statements where, however as we got into the course I came to appreaciate how much she encouraged her students to think and wrestle with hard passgaes. We read a lot of scripture (not just modern biblical scholarship but THE ACTUAL BIBLE) and it was amazing. I have never cried in a religion class before, she changed that. If you want a course that will challenge, your thinking and give you an amazing opportunity for dialogue with other students then seek out texts of terror. Great class, still think Shes a bit of a heretic. but in the Origen way not that Arius ways so shes alright by me.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Please do not take her for Christian Scriptures I came into it after hearing people say it wouldn’t be too bad but she was horrible for it. Constantly pushed her own agenda and would tear down and call out students in front of the class in attempts to embarrass them. Squeaked an A in the class but definitely easier ways to get the grade and learn more about the topics. Please don’t.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Rel 1310 - This class was the worst class EVER. Don't get me wrong, the assignments are easy, but her teaching style is terrible. The lectures are boring, and honestly, her just reading the bible to herself. She would talk about random irrelevant shit that didn\'t contribute to the class, but just because she thought it was \"fun\". The discussions, class activities and projects are easy grade boosters, however, if you miss an assignment or don\'t do well you won\'t keep an A.   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1310 - The usage of outside materials and understanding Christian Scriptures is honestly nice, it helps apply verses and show impacts in a bigger picture. However, her grading style is unfavorable. The quizzes are easy, the discussion posts are easy to complete, but if you get even one wrong grade you can no longer obtain an A. There is no flexibility, or understanding, even if the fault is hers. Such as giving everyone who did a certain discussion post prompt a zero because we 'answered wrong' yet had not talked about it in class. Along with this, the grading is harsh on the occasions in which it does not need to be. The class overall isn't hard, it's just not fun to listen to nor intriguing enough to want an A. Messing up an assignment or two means you automatically have to settle with a B+ or even lower.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1310 - This class was very disappointing. Her teaching style was not only unhelpful but abrasive and contradictory to many biblical truths. Her main focus seemed to be bringing her own biased views of sex and gender as well as political views into class time. Many of her lessons seemed to just berate the Bible rather than teach us about it.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301 - Honestly one of the rudest and worst teachers I’ve ever had throughout my schooling experience. Would consistently single students out in front of the class and berate “different opinions,” many of which were about sexuality and gender. Additionally, she would barely stay on topic and would consistently push her personal beliefs on the class, even if it meant she took away from class time and actual important material. She’s so new too so she’s still experimenting with stuff, which doesn’t help when you’re looking for a good grade. Do NOT take her there are so many better options!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301 - Literally one of the worst professors I’ve ever had. Not only does she make the class needlessly hard and time consuming because she makes her quiz questions on some random little tidbit from class or the textbook, not just about knowing the topic overall but because she’s one of the rudest professors I’ve ever met. She has no sympathy for anything and thinks her class should be of utmost priority in your life. Absolutely no late work or leniency even if you’re sick and no electronics in class despite the fact that her slides have more information than you could ever write down and she doesn’t post them. Anytime I’ve tried to talk with her she is cold and absolutely shows no concern. There’s no reason that as a senior my lowest class score is an intro level freshman class!! After the first day I wanted to drop and in hindsight I 100% should have. Do not take her!!!!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:rel1310 - Do not take Ericka Dunbar for Christian Scriptures. Worst attitude possible and gets upset if you have your phone, laptop, or tablet out. Classes are lecture-based off of powerpoints that are posted online. I haven't learned a single thing about Christian Scriptures and we have a week left of class. Half your grade is based off of quizzes that can be incredibly difficult. Seems as if she's making classwork and assignments as she goes.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Christian Scriptures - The class is fine. Workload is easy. The quizzes are the main grade which is annoying. However, I do not recommend taking her. I have learned nothing about scriptures. She focuses way too much on social issues. I feel like I am in a political science or sociology class. Also, going to class is almost not needed. We don't learn anything and it is extremely boring.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Christian Scriptures - Do not take Professor Dunbar. This was class was extremely boring. She does not engage her students and if you know nothing about the Bible, you're screwed. We had no tests until the final, so our knowledge was never tested. Quizzes were also worth half of your grade. This class was so painful. If you know Scriptures and want an easy grade, I recommend her. If you actually want to learn something, take someone else.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1310 - I cannot say enough good things about professor Dunbar!!!! She is truly a bright light shining at Baylor! The negative ratings are from people who cannot respect someone with a different viewpoint than theirs. She is SO engaging with the class, has many group projects and fun things like writing your own Psalm or writing witty tweets. The class is easy if you do the readings and don't just sleep through class. She is always available and willing to meet with you if you ask. This class was my favorite this semester, and I'm looking forward to taking more classes with professor Dunbar!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - DR.DUNBAR IS A FIRST YEAR TEACHER, BUT MAKES IT VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE IF YOU DONT HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE COMING INTO THE CLASS. HER GRADING WAS FIVE QUIZZES THAT WERE ALL MULTIPLE CHOICE. SHE SPEEDS THROUGH HER LECTURES AND THERE IS A FAIR AMOUNT OF READING. SHE BARELY RESPONDS TO QUESTIONS AND EXPECTS A FAIR AMOUNT OF INVOLVEMENT IN HER CLASS. SHE TRIES HER BEST TO TEACH THE BIBLE, BUT IT COMES FROM A VERY PROGESSIVE VIEWPOINT. I GOT BY BARELY READING... WHICH IS BORING. SHE IS A GOOD PERSON AND TRIES HER BEST BUT IS NOT THE BEST TEACHER.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - If I could shortly summarize my experience with Professor Dunbar, it's that she wants you to succeed in her class and sincerely cares about those who take her class. This is the most engaging class I have been a part of so far at Baylor. At least once a week we have engaging activities such as group assignments and projects with the material we have recently read or learned. As well, no professor I have had has the same care and passion for their students as professor Dunbar does. She goes as far as stopping class while reading difficult and controversial passages in the bible to make sure nothing in the passage is too much for someone by asking if the class is okay mentally to continue reading. Genuinely cares about mental health and gives a very reasonable amount of homework for a class that's curriculum is about a book. Typically elaborates greatly on what is going to be on a quiz and as long as you put in the work you will easily get the grade you desire.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - She does not engage her students, does not help her students when they reach out for help. Would not recommend for a student trying to really dive into their faith or just do good in the class. Lots of reading.  - Grade In Class:A
