*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:REL 1310 - Dr. Chae is the most understanding, kindhearted, and helpful professor. His office hours are most helpful when it comes to exams and he really appreciates it if you utilize that. Sometimes the work load seems like a lot with all the reading but he gives quizzes that are due before every class period that can help boost your grade. His tests can be tricky but if you review his slides then you should be set. I would totally recommend taking Dr. Chae if you have the opportunity. I know so much more about the Bible than I ever did before due to him and his lectures. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:religion - Dr. Chae is literally the definition of a Christian professor. He is incredibly kind, understanding, and truly cares about his students. If you ever need help, go to his office hours, he will genuinely help you. Everything you need for the exams is on the slides, so if you study the slides, you’ll be well prepared. He also offers take-home quizzes that really help boost your grade, and he provides a study guide for each exam. He does not test on anything outside of what he gives you. Overall, he is an amazing professor who wants his students to succeed. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1310 - Scripts- class is kinda boring tbh. You have pre class quizzes and short responses which are not bad at all (open note). You don't really need the Bible they he says you need, any should be fine; the book you will need tho for the short responses before class. The test are the worst thing tbh, I still don't really understand how to study for them. But he is the nicest prof, and if you ask he will help you. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1310 - Best professor ever! He definitely cares about each and every student in his class. his work load can be a lot if you don't stay on top of it, but all of the quizzes are easy and not long at all. his exams are not bad at all if you study, but he gives you the slides from the lectures so it is easy to study, there is never anything on the exam that was not covered in lecture or reading. I would 100% want him as a professor again. you need to do everything you can to take his class! you won't regret it! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1310 - Dr. Chae was a great professor. He cares about all his students and gives you all the resources you need to get an A in his class. As long as you put effort into studying for exams, you have everything you need. I recommend him! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1350 - Dr. Chae is very nice and has let me remake assignments. He is funny and laid back when lecturing, and his teaching style and accent have improved from what I can gather from earlier ratings. He also knows so much about the Old Testament. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:REL 1301 - He is a great professor who really cares for his students and about the material. if you want to learn you will if you engage with the material and listen. He turned out to be my favorite professor Ive had because of the type of guy he is. basically no work in the class accept for the 3 exams. As long as you study the slides and understand it you will be good. It was a great experience and I highly suggest his class. He will help you in office hours. Very understanding Guy! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1310 - Dr. Chae is a kind and patient professor who creates a welcoming and supportive learning environment. Originally from Korea, English is his second language, but his accent is easy to understand, and he communicates clearly. The class requires a Bible and an additional book, which are essential for success. Group assignments occur about once a month and provide a great opportunity to collaborate with classmates. Quizzes are online and relatively easy, while tests are straightforward if you review his materials—his slides are essentially the test! He also provides thorough study guides for the midterm and final, making them manageable. Dr. Chae’s deep knowledge of the Old Testament and his openness to religious questions make him approachable and a great resource for students interested in learning more. If you’re looking for a professor who is both knowledgeable and genuinely caring, Dr. Chae is an excellent choice! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1310 - This class is extremely easy and enjoyable. The weakly quizzes are extremely easy if you have even the smallest amount of biblical knowledge. His class is a little slow and can be boring. I would recommend taking notes in class and asking questions. When I took his class he did curb the test's which was nice. He is extremely personable and is willing to answer any and all questions. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:scrips - Powepoint is the tests. Study the powerpoint and you are good - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - Dr. Chae is super sweet but he can be difficult to understand because he has a thick accent. His workload has decreased from what I have read in other reviews and there aren't any pop quizzes anymore and there is only one review essay. He is engaging with the class but tends to ramble about the power points. He posts them on canvas every week so you don't really have to listen that intensely. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - Dr. Chae is new to Baylor, so he definitely did struggle a couple of times. Dr. Chae is really nice and wants his students to do well. He can sometimes be difficult to understand with his accent, so I would suggest moving to the front of the classroom if you want to do well. The class consists of around 13 pop quizzes, two review essays, and three exams (final included). The pop quizzes can be difficult to predict but are usually once a week and three will be dropped. To do well on these, make sure to follow the sections he wants you to read on the syllabus. Sometimes the questions can be slightly confusing, but they are usually easy As and Bs. The sections are usually really short and should take no more than twenty to thirty minutes to read through. The review essays are impossible to fail (unless you don't turn it in), and any effort will get you above a B. The exams can be challenging if you do not take good notes. Listen to Dr. Chae and make sure to note of some of the important details (he usually will make it pretty easy to recognize). After the exam, if a majority of the class misses a question, he will give those points back to the entire class. To study, I would recommend skimming your notes a few days in advance and having a two hour review the day before. Dr. Chae does have his issues, but I thought he did a decent job overall. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - I would like to start off by mentioning that this was Professor Chae's first year as a professor, and he is a very kind man with a gentle heart. He is from South Korea, so his accent is very thick, but he frequently thanked our class for being patient with him and his accent. Also, whenever someone would ask him to make a change such as using a microphone to talk since it was difficult to hear him at first, he was eager to improve and would take advice and feedback that was given to him. With that being said, the class itself was very difficult to sit through. The lectures were very long and consisted of Prof. Chae standing at the front of the room and rambling on for an hour and fifteen minutes about the PowerPoint. It was very hard to stay engaged, and the quizzes at the beginning of class had very specific questions that even if you read, you would be lucky to get an 8/10 on the quizzes. The tests were very difficult, but manageable if you are good at memorizing. He basically tells you to study the PowerPoints, and when I say anything on the PowerPoints are fair game, ANYTHING down to the most random date or fact is fair game on his exams. The only reason I was able to receive an A in this class is because Prof. Chae was very willing to meet with his students and explain things to them, and I was able to step back and memorize the facts that he thought were important, not that I thought were important. I am hoping that his course gets better as he teaches for a longer period of time because he really is eager to improve and is a very nice guy. Once he gets ahold of being able to control the classroom, becomes more engaging, and narrows down the scope of what he is teaching, I believe this class will be not nearly as bad. Considering it is an intro level class that is required for all Baylor students, he truly expects his students to learn a ton, from the differences between religions and cultures to dates to the scripture itself to the names of different people to the geography... the list goes on. Professor Chae is a brilliant man--that is indisputable--but I think he sometimes forgets that not everyone in his classroom has a Christian background or even a basic understanding of the Bible. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1310 - He made this class extremely difficult. Quizzes were simple and carried my grade. Tests were impossible, he would ask about his personal viewpoints. Would not recommend. He is very nice though. - Grade In Class:B
