Comments:HIS 4340 - This professor is the worst. She accused me of plagiarism due to my writing sounding "too professional", and demonstrated clear favoritism with her grading metric. Her grading is 100% subjective and if you are white then you will for sure have an easy and fun time in this course. She brings guns to class and shoots them, as well as has a "paper" which she subjectively grades rather than an objective final. The entire class is a favoritism game and she seems out to get students. Let this be the only truthful rating of this professor.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:HIS 4340 - I so, so HIGHLY recommend Dr. Sweet! We had a special interest class, so we only met once a week and had A LOT of Reading, but she was so flexible and willing to help out. The lectures were very engaging! She gave me multiple extensions on my 25-page term paper and was truly dedicated to student success. She not only gave valuable feedback but wanted to see you improve! I will be taking her to other History classes in the future!! :) (For this special interest class, the Boston tea party, we had no quizzes or test but the term paper was like our final exam)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1365 - Julie Sweet is such a good and engaging professor! She will come dressed up in time appropriate attire depending on the time period she is teaching. She has a ton of cool relics to show from different periods as well. She teaches the material in very fun and engaging ways. Her tests are super easy and you have to write 5 papers throughout the class, but she is a very gracious grader. Like with any class, you do have to show up. It would be pretty hard to keep up with material if you don't. But she is a really funny and focused professor, which is not the most common thing. She makes jokes and fools around, but she never gets off topic or unfocused. It is a really fun class, I would highly recommend her!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4393 Military History - Dr. Sweet has become my favorite history professor here at Baylor after taking this class. She makes the class very interesting and teaches in a way that makes it easy to retain the material. She will dress up in war uniforms and will bring replica muskets and other weapons into class which was definitely a highlight. There are a total of 3 tests that are fairly simple along with 4 personal narrative papers ,but you only have to do 3 of them. There is a quite a bit of reading but I would recommend at the very beginning of the semester planning out a reading schedule because breaking it up into smaller chunks was very helpful. She is a pretty easy but fair grader as long as you give a lot of detail. I was never super stressed in this class and would love to take another class taught by Dr. Sweet.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS2365 - I took HIS2365 with Dr. Sweet as it was the only open history class I could take for my major. I ended up liking it a lot more than I would have thought. She would make classes fun with music and dressing up (a lot!). My biggest complaint was how nit-picky she was; the prompts for papers were super easy, but the answers were never what she was specifically looking for, regardless of how well you backed up your thoughts/opinions. She would dock for the smallest mistakes. Other than that, the class was great in the face of the pandemic. If it had been "normal", as mentioned in previous reviews, I feel I would have liked the class more and done better.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:HIS 2365 - Dr. Sweet is a very good professor. She makes class fun, engaging, interesting, and even dresses up some days. As a hybrid style class during covid, the entire syllabus was changed to solely papers, that and an unnecessary amount of reading each night. While the prompts may have been easy she graded very picky. She will take off for grammar issues and even if she doesn't think it flows or even if you don't answer a question to her length or liking. If things are back to normal with classes, Im sure it would be a good and fair class. If you are stuck with her having to write the papers. Email them to her before hand or go up to her after class and ask what you can improve to ensure a good grade in the class. Don't expect much on fighting for a boost in your grade, she gives no extra credit and won't budge on her grades, even if you answered your prompts fully and correctly. Final was a 50 word sentence on what we learned in the class, and didn't count towards our grade. Again this may just be due to the virus, so hope this helps.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:HIS 4362 - I took Dr. Sweet for American Colonial History and she was a great lecturer. Dr. Sweet taught primarily by lecturing. There were 10 books assigned and she only required us to write 3 book reviews out of the 10. There was a Midterm, Final, and 10-12 page Historiographical Essay. Dr. Sweet was a very fast grader and returned papers and exams during the next class period. The only warning I would state is that she does NOT use Canvas and does not post grades.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2365- Early US History - Definitely one of the best history teachers at Baylor! You can tell she loves history and you can see it in her lectures. She even comes dressed up to class sometimes! Her class is mainly lectures but she writes everything on the board. We also did interacted stuff but they were no biggie. Her class is comprised of 3 tests (25 mc and essay) and 6 papers (super easy prompts). She also is big on participation so make sure you answer questions in class or ask questions. She gives plenty of opportunities for this so don't sweat it if you are a big introvert like me. The class is mostly filled up with upperclassmen and athletes so I would definitely wait until you are able to get into her class, if you want an exciting and easier history class where you actually learn something.Take her!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2365 - Amazing teacher! You can tell she's really passionate about history, so she really tries to help you throughout the semester. She knows her stuff. She dresses up for class sometimes and we had a few "simulations". 3 exams, half multiple choice and half essay. Also 6-8 papers to do throughout the semester but the prompts are super easy. She's big on participation so make sure you do that, she gives you plenty of opportunities. Take her!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 4393 Military History - Dr. Sweet is the bomb! She loves what she teaches, and she even dresses up in military uniform for class sometimes! She is very clear on her expectations for the class and is very reasonable. There is a lot of reading, and you have to keep up with it. If you keep up on the readings and participate in class, the class is not bad at all. There are 3 personal narrative papers based on journals from soldiers in various wars, 3 tests (all in essay form), and a larger 10-15 page leadership paper. I would highly recommend Dr. Sweet; she is awesome!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:HIS 2365 - Take her. She loves her students so much and is a phenomenal professor. Take her. The reading isn't too bad and she prepares you very well for the tests.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2365 - One of the sweetest professors I've ever met. Her teaching style is geared toward a high-school students, but effective. There's no assignments. Only reading for quizzes that aren't too bad. Her three tests were multiple choice. Not hard, but you do have to study for them. I didn't have time, so that's why I ended up with a B.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:HIS 4362 - My best advice would be to take Jules Sweet if at all possible. Dr. Sweet is a fantastic professor. The whole class grade is based on writing (3 book reviews, 2 exams, and one major paper) and participation. As long as you participate in class and do the work, you will get an A. Dr. Sweet is engaging, funny, and will ALWAYS get your assignments back to you during the next class period. Take Sweet, you will not regret the decision.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2365 - Dr. Jules is probably the best teacher I've had so far at Baylor! She is so helpful, and she always makes the class interesting. She frequently comes dressed up according to the topic of discussion for the day, and she's very passionate about what she's teaching...which always helps. Her class was very organized and followed the syllabus very closely. She assigns reading for each class day, but it's not normally unmanageable. NOTHING in her class is cumulative. We had six reading quizzes (10 MC questions) two tests (25 MC questions and 1 essay) and a final (same as other tests), and none of which were cumulative. I would definitely take Dr. Jules if you can!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:colonial- 1867 - Dr. Sweet is the best teacher I have ever had. I absolutely love her. She made going to class lots of fun and kept you really focused and interested. I would recommend taking her for any history class if at all possible.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Early Republic - Great class, learned a lot. She makes you participate in every class for a grade, but she makes it very easy to do so. Grades: a few tests, book response papers, historiographical essay, and participation.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Am. Colon. - A great teacher! She was always very helpful and will help you with your large project. I did not read all the books, and sometimes just looked over them and still did well in the class. Make sure to take notes during lecture and study those notes for the exams. Whether or not you like history, you will love Dr. Sweet.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4324 - Great teacher...she mixes up her classes so that youre doing something different all the time instead of just straight lecture...only bad thing is you don't learn that much in her class that you didn't already know...the good thing is that makes the tests easy...great teacher for people who aren't too excited about history, she'll get you interested  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-05-08

Comments:FAS 1302 - I really liked her for this class. There was a lot of reading for it and a paper every week, but we got to watch movies. You can tell from the way she teaches that she really loves history. If you get the chance to take her, definitely take her class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2006-12-22

Comments:4362 - her lectures are a little boring, but she gets enough class involvement and mixes it up enough to keep you awake, she assigns 5 book reviews which are easy and one historiography essay which is also easy, but time-consuming...she reviews all your essays if you email them to her ahead of time...thats HUGE for bad writers and it can easily raise your avg a letter grade...the only hard part is her tests...they consist of a choice of 3 VERY broad essay questions...and u then must fill up an entire blue book w/ absolutely everything you know about the topic...she cares more about you listing everything you know than writing a well-organized essay...overall a pretty good teacher who makes you work for the A but doesnt make it impossible either...Im taking her again next semester  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:early american - Dr. Jules is so much fun. At first I didn't care for her, but give her a chance. She goes above and beyond what most "good" profs do. She brings creativity to her lectures by having songs, pictures, act out "skits", and staged debates. She is amazing pretty much! I love how she conducts class-- she asks questions that allows the class to in a sense guide the lecture. There are several papers due based on outside reading. These were a pain, and she's a picky grader, BUT its still worth it. She allowed me to learn to like history, which I used to hate. Dr. Jules is great!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:hist & FAS 1302 - Dr. Jules is great! I've had her for 2 different classes...her classes require alot of reading/writing, but they aren't too difficult. She grades fairly on all writing assignments...her history tests are essay...I thought they would be incredibly hard, but she prepares you for them in class. Her classes do require studying (sometimes alot) but as far as a Baylor history class is concerned, it's not bad at all! She knows her stuff & is creative...she makes it interesting...you're not always just sitting in class! I enjoyed her classes alot!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:This lady is brand new to BU and is one of the best teachers I have had. She is extremley helpful and willing to work with you on anything. You are expected to read some books and write papers, but thats expected. You will be well-prepared for her exams and her classes are always interesting. She is quite a character and makes it fun.
