*A 5 star workload is an easy workload; a 3 star is average; whereas a 1 star workload is extremely hard.
Comments:1402 - Got an A but no thanks to him WORST CLASS AT BAYLOR. Tests were 40 multiple choice with 7 short answer at least 5 parts each so basically 40 multiple choice and 35 short answer (no short hand allowed) all within 50 minutes. Needless to say that no one finished and no one made it to their next class either because of having to stay over. A 70 was an A in the class because no one did better than a 75. This class is basically mission impossible and should be reported to the department of psych and neuroscience (oh wait they can't do anything because the 84 year old professor has had tenure for over 50 years here) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - Dr. Kirk is such a sweet and passionate old man. He genuinely loves teaching this class and is SO smart. Statistics is not everyone's cup of tea and he knows that. Read the book and try to enjoy it and the class can be really interesting. Ask questions and never fall behind. Stats is like climbing 20 flights of stairs, miss one step and you might be okay, miss a couple and it is impossible. Best advice I can give is DO NOT overcram your memory jogger!! Actually try to learn the material so that you can use your memory jogger for really important topics only. Create a short hand or code for your memory jogger to save space. DO THE BONUS ASSIGNMENTS AND GO TO CLASS! This course is not as impossible as everyone makes it sound and honestly if you struggle and hate it that much, psychology is probably not for you. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - Sweet, sweet old man. Absolutely horrifyingly terrible class. Good luck, psych majors. It's required and it's the weed out to end all weed outs, and they're very good at making people fail. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:PSY Stats 2402 - I came into this class terrified of it because of the comments here and because Kirk himself said he had to fail a certain number of students because this is a weed-out class. Ended up being one of the easiest classes I've ever personally taken at Baylor--because if you strategize on your memory jogger, the tests can honestly be a walk in the park. He always writes the page number which the test question came from next to each question on the test, so WRITE PAGE NUMBERS NEXT TO YOUR NOTES ON THE MEMORY JOGGER TO LOCATE THE INFORMATION! I saw literally nobody else do this besides me, and I think I had the easiest time in this class out of all 60 of us...and I took this sophomore-level class as a freshman. (PS your "memory jogger" is a blank sheet of paper provided to you by Dr. Kirk which you are allowed to write ANYTHING on. I slaved over this on each and every test, spending at least 10 hours on each one...but it's basically a cheat sheet, and it GUARANTEED me my A--WORTH IT!) My best advice is; go to all the labs, skip as many lectures as you want but don't fall beneath the 75% mark, organize your memory jogger into blocks by chapter and include page numbers next to your notes so that they are easy to locate, read the book, and focus more on knowing concepts and less on actually understanding the math-y parts of it (as he will NEVER ask you to compute anything, AND you get a formula sheet on the tests), do the "check your understanding" questions in his book (they are essentially VERBATIM what he will ask on the short-answer portion of the tests), and do not freak out. With the memory jogger, you have no reason to freak out. The tests are curved largely anyway--one time anything above a 77 was an A, which, that definitely speaks to how poorly the class did overall, but I'm telling you that with my page number strategy, I got an A not because I knew the most or was the smartest, but simply because I knew how to play the game. That's really all university is--learning how to play the game. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 stats - Boi basically you need to memorize the textbook. he is as old as dirt and he wrote the book so his lectures are basically straight from it. Jam as many things as you can on your memory jogger and tbh lab did not really help, you have quizzes over the chapters in there. Just read the chapter in lecture and you'll do fine. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:PSY 2402 - If you are confused go to office hours and he will help you SO much. Dr. Kirk is such a sweet old man--very grandfathery. Many people complain about this class because it is the first challenge presented to them in college. Overall, if you read the book and go to every lab you will be fine. Tests are difficult, but not awful. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - This class is extremely difficult because of the way it's set up. If you've never had a statistics course before and you don't absorb new mathematical concepts really quickly, you may look into taking an intro level stats course before giving this one a go. You will cover EVERYTHING that is in the book in this course, and when I say you, I mean you, not the lecture. Don't depend on Dr. Kirk to teach you everything you need to know. Read the book very carefully before each quiz and take good notes (skimming will not usually result in a great quiz grade). Listen to your lab TA and really really know everything they've covered before each exam. If they highlight something or read something off of the sheet in their hand, write it down and consider putting it on your memory jogger - the paper they're reading off of came from Dr. Kirk. Write EVERY proof on EVERY memory jogger - there will be about 15(?). Really know that R-handout and every input and output involved in the homework assignments - asking you to replicate it from memory has shown up as an essay question before. Don't underestimate the power of keeping up with the class and taking solid notes on each chapter BEFORE its quiz - I really wish I had done this, I know I would've done a lot better in the class! - Grade In Class:C
Comments:2402 - So this class is not as bad as everyone warns you about. However you have to study literally everynight for this class if you want a good grade. Also depending on your lab instructor is probably the grade you will receive. Daniel Yi was mine and he was extremely helpful. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:2402 - I went into this class terrified and convinced I was going to fail and am coming out with an A in the course. I didn\'t do well in AP stats or even regular stats here at Baylor, but this course wasn\'t the same. As others have said, read the textbook. There is no way you will do well if you don\'t. Take notes over each chapter before the quiz, read the chapter again, and use the online supplement to take the practice quiz. This class is not difficult if you read. The practice problems in the textbook require computation, but his exams do not - it\'s entirely concept-based. Dr. Kirk\'s lectures are boring and it\'s really sad because everyone knows it and no one pays attention and I think it makes him feel badly. Make sure you put every proof on your memory jogger. Once he uses a proof on an exam, he won\'t put it on the next ones, so you can take it off your jogger. Each exam is cumulative based on what you\'ve learned up until that point in the course, so I would advise you save a copy of each of your memory joggers to refer to before each exam. Your lab is the only way you will ever understand this class, so NEVER skip a lab - but missing lecture probably won\'t hurt you too much. PS - the final exam study guide on Kirk\'s website will save you for the final; the questions change each time you retake it, so take it as many times as you can before the final. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - I must admit before entering this class I was terrified, but the class isn't as bad as everyone says if you READ THE TEXTBOOK. You HAVE to read the book in order to do well in this class. If you can get Johnson or Daniel for lab then do so! I have Johnson and she's very sweet and she wants you to understand the material, she's there for you. I do not have Daniel, but one of my friends in the class does and she says he is amazing. The quizzes in the lab are not hard if, again, you read the textbook!!!! I cannot emphasize how important it is to read the book! Lecture can be pretty boring, and Dr. Kirk understands this, but just bear with him y'all! He's very sweet and if you ask questions he WILL answer them. If no one asks any questions he'll just keep on going; don't be afraid to ask questions! If you read the book then the lecture is just a reiteration of what was in the book. All his powerpoint are online in the textbook supplement your TA gives you. There are also chapter quizzes in the supplement that you should do because he uses some of those questions for tests/quizzes. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:2402 - This class really isn't as bad as the comments say it is, and Dr. Kirk is an awesome prof! The reason this class is so hard is because he's only allowed to give out a certain amount of A's and B's. He told me it's the department that makes this a weed out class. I was terrified going into this class, but worked hard and made a great grade. Always go to class and lab, this isn't a class you can skip. Read through the chapters once or twice before quizzes. Reread the chapters and do the check your understanding problems at the end of each section before tests. Perfect your memory jogger!! I spent hours on mine. I put all the proofs on there and typed my notes on there, it saved my life. Honestly, if you put in a lot of effort and work really hard this class won't be that bad. I made a C+ on my first test and got A's on the rest of them and the final. The final was terrible, most of the free response focused on the recent material and the multiple choice was cumulative. Remember, just score above the mean! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402-Psych Stats - Dr. Kirk is a sweet and very intelligent professor. He tries his hardest to explain the material to us, but he is just so smart that it just goes over our heads, that is why the lab is in play. I took his class in the Summer, IT IS SOOOO MUCH EASIER!! I actually enjoyed it in the Summer, after dropping it twice before. I do think Dr. Kirk means well, he is just old and has taught this class for like 50 years and know the book front and back, I MEAN WHO WOULDN'T SINCE HE IS THE AUTHOR OF IT. I would highly recommend getting Linda Kang as your TA though. She is awesome and she dumbs it down so much, I would not have passed this class without her help. Just study and book, and read the book before lectures!! - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:2402 - This is literally the most difficult class in the world. I have put in 5 hours every single day just to make B. Thank the lord for grade curves though, I'd be below a F if there were no curves. Terrible class, incredible difficult material, not that great of a teacher. Good luck - Grade In Class:F
Comments:2402 - Terrible teacher. Terrible class. The most work I've ever had to do in any class. Hands down. It's a weed-out course so be prepared. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:PSY 2402 - This class (and Dr. Kirk) is NOT as bad as everyone makes it seem. Yes, it is difficult, but the reason Dr. Kirk has to grade so harshly is because the department will only allow him to give a certain percentage of A's and B's. Make sure you read the chapters in the book. Also, if you go to the book website, there are practice quizzes for each chapter that often include questions that are on the actual quizzes. It is very helpful. The tests are all curved, so keep in mind that if a question is particularly hard, chances are most of the rest of the class will miss it to so it won't affect your score. The material is difficult, but manageable. Know the proofs. Know SPSS. Use your memory jogger wisely. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - This class is tough. Period. Dr. Kirk really wants his students to understand the material, but sometimes his explanations of the book material don't make the most sense to students. What I did to succeed in this class: Go to class and lab, pay attention the best you can even when it doesn't make the most sense. Read EVERY chapter before Dr. Kirk lectures on it. I ended up reading each chapter 2-3 times total before I was tested on it. I found the chapters I understood the most were the ones I read through once, made a few notes and then read again, but making a detailed outline the 2nd time. Ask your TA questions, they're there to help you. My TA was excellent, and he really helped me understand the material. Pay attention to the questions you miss on the quizzes in lab, that really helps you understand the material. Because Dr. Kirk wrote the book, you have a pretty accurate guide for what to study for the exams. The only material on the exams that's not from the books are the proofs and the SPSS information. My memory jogger saved my life. I spent a TON of time before each exam making mine. I came into this class expecting to fail or barely pass, but I did my best not to get behind and I came out with a good grade! This class is do-able if you work hard. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - Worst class in the whole university. Terrible teacher. Yeah, he is cute and old and all that carp. But he is 100 years old, this is his 100th semester teaching at Baylor and he NEEDS TO LEAVE!!! Unfortunately he is the only teacher for this stupid required class so you have to take him. So get it out of the way, try your best to score high on the first exam, and there is ALWAYS a proof on an exam. ALWAYS. Make sure you get a good TA because they pretty much are the deciding factor of if you get it or not. All I can say is good luck, you'll need it. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:2402 - This class is not as hard as it seems IF you take it during the summer! Which everybody should. It is much more personal and he is very helpful. The concepts are easier to comprehend and the scale is not as skwed as they are in the big classes during the semesters. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:PSY 2402 - I hated this class. I hated the lab. I hated everything about this course, even down to the professor and TA. Dr Kirk is very nice, and old, and a good dancer, but I feel there's an evil, evil part of him that likes to fail students. I'm so sorry psych majors, but this is an obstacle we all must take. The first exam by far was the easiest. The third was hardest besides the final. The long answer part of the final seemed to focus more over the most recent material learned, however the multiple choice was cumulative. The best advice I can give is do NOT fall behind, whatever you do. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:2402 - While Dr. Kirk is a pretty friendly old fella, he's still a difficult professor to follow. He authored the text book, so if you don't understand the reading then ask your lab TA about it. The homework load depends entirely upon your Lab TA, but every lab section takes 8 question quizzes over every chapter. The quizzes generally aren't too hard if you actually read the chapter. However, the course material is EXTREMELY dense, so take your time reading over the chapters. The tests are 90% based on the book material, so I never paid attention during lecture - except when Kirk writes something on the board. IF he he starts writing on the board, its probably a proof, SO PAY ATTENTION AND WRITE IT DOWN, even if you don't understand it. In all, stick to the book and ask your TA any questions and you'll be fine. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:2402-Stats. - Let me start this off by saying that Dr. Kirk is EXTREMELY nice and EXTREMELY intelligent. Also, this class is not as scary as everyone makes it sound. The book is easy to follow and understand (if you read it). You could pass his exams just by reading the book and understanding it. I'll be honest and say that the lectures weren't very helpful, because he confused me more than helped me, so I just read the book the whole time and it actually helped out so much because it was less studying I had to do outside of class ;) You may say, "oh, that's rude to read while he's talking"... but I sat on the front row, and he NEVER noticed or said anything to me about it, and I started reading in class towards the beginning of the semester. The information in the class builds on top of itself (like a math class) so concepts become even easier to grasp as the course goes on. The last half of the course follows a pattern that I found easy to understand. I advise you, if you are nervous about this class, to just know you can do well because it is possible. There is a lab grade you can earn by doing really well in the lab that adds up to 5 bonus points to your final grade which can raise it half a letter grade, he adds up all the quiz grades to make another exam grade (so do well on those), AND there is EASY extra credit you can do for every exam, including the final(which I STRONGLY advise you should do). DON'T BE SCARED! Just know that you will have to put in alot of effort and this class isn't a gimme, but doing well in this course is VERY possible. Go into it with a positive attitude, ready to work, and you're good to go. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:2402 - Great teacher. Tough subject. I went in to the class expecting the worst but did well. He really knows his stuff but can sometimes have trouble communicating it - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Stats - Very sweet man, he really cares a lot about his students. He is very passionate about teaching and really makes it known. This class is difficult and demanding, but he is always willing to help. It's a complete weed out class, so expectations are pretty high. Don't worry though, make sure you read every chapter, maybe more than once, and if you have questions, ask!! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:2402 - I loved Dr. Kirk. very nice man. If you can, do this class in the summer. He says that the students in the summer courses statistically do better than fall and spring. He is willing to do anything for you is it helps you understand the course material. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:2402 - I went into this class thinking it was going to be terrible and it turned out to not be so bad. You do have to put in a lot of time and effort though. His lectures are incredibly boring and I personally got nothing out of them except for proofs. He is a really nice man he's just so smart he doesn't really know how to teach at our level. For the lab my TA was terrible. IF you can try and get a good TA because I not only had lots of homework every night when other labs didn't but I also had to teach everything to myself. For the tests make a good memory jogger because it def. saved me a few times! I would type up all the vocab if you can then when it comes time for the next test you can put it on there also since its all cumulative. Quizzes really helped my grade out and DO the Extra credit because it got me to a b+ instead of a B! Study Hard! Good Luck! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:Psych Stats - I took it the semester that Tommy Vu was one of the TA's and cheated and everyones grades we changed. The class is an experiment. All the tests are the same. If you know what I mean. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:2402 - each test gets harder than the one before, the jogger helps slightly, do the extra credit it helps, book doesnt help, i used the study guide on his website, do good on the quizzes those help you out in the end ALOT! - Grade In Class:C
Comments:stats - After reading many reviews about this professor, I went into this class really nervous, almost epxecting to fail. As it turns out, if I had done better than one more person, I would have had an A. However, I'm not upset that grades are based on how you do in comparison to others, because my actual number grade was probably worse than my grade compared to my classmates. The hardest part about this class is that you have a lot of quizzes (one for every chapter). The chapters are anywhere from 20 to 50 pages long, and since it's a fairly dry read, it takes a long time to study. I would definitely say you should study hard for the quizzes because just reading the material isn't enough. Even after doing so pretty thoroughly, I would get 5 out of 8 correct. The good news is that there's not much other homework involved besides studying for quizzes, except a few packets you complete by using the computer software. The lectures are pretty much exactly what is in the book. Since the quizzes are usually taken before he covers the material in class, the class can be pretty boring if you've already read the chapter. Most people were doing other things durin class, but toward the end of the semester he started randomly calling on people to answer questions. The tests are mostly multiple choice with some essays at the end, which can take awhile. time can run out pretty quickly. Make sure you do a good job of making your memory jogger. Toward the end of the semester things get pretty hectic with two quizzes a week, so be expecting this. I don't think it is Professor Kirk that makes this class so difficult. The material is just hard. He does what he can to answer questions (try to bring questions to class...He gets pretty upset if no one ever has any questions...Also, he allows time for questions when he plans his lectures, and sometimes he will get two chapters ahead if no one has questions to take up time). He is a nice man, not at all evil or conniving. It's not like he is trying to get people to fail. The department just requires that a certain percentage pass and fail. My best advice is to go into this class ready to work hard, and don't have a negative attitude right off the bat (and do every bonus! I did all but one, and if I'd done that one, I would have an A). Good luck! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:PSY 2402 - This class was horrible! First time I failed the class but tried my best to get the grade I got. Tough class because your grade is based off of how well everyone else in class does. So if you get 65/67 on exam but 15 people got 66/67 on exam, you would end up with a B or B+. Not an A! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:Psych. Stats - Kirk is amazing! His lectures may be dry, but the material isn't that difficult to understand. He's the cutest old man at Baylor and really loves his job. Very passionate about statistics. His test were about average, and you get to use a "Memory Jogger" or a cheat sheet (as we call them). He also grades based on a "curve" so to speak. I thought there was no way I'd ever pass this class, and I jumped up and down when I found out I had a C+. Not a bad class. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:2402 - Dr. Kirk knows statistics, there's no doubt about that. His book isn't very difficult to understand if you just breathe and read through the chapters several times. It also helps to outline the chapters. Dr. Kirk's lectures are very dry and late in the day, but he tries to tell jokes to liven it up. They actually really helped me understand the material. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2405 - Everyone calm down...this class is not that big of a deal! Dr. Kirk is extremely sweet and does his best to explain the book...which he wrote. All you have to do to make a decent grade is pretty much memorize the book which isn't that confusing if you read the chapters over a few times. Keep up with the reading and do well on the lab quizzes because these really can help your grade! We had a riot in our class one day because a few students thought that his tests were "unfair" and "impossible to complete". All I have to say is if you really know the material you can do extremely well no matter what. Oh and write every little thing you can on your memory joggers...I would suggest typing the wordy information and don't forget the proofs. Have fun:) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - Dr. Kirk is amazing! He is one of the sweetest professors and man in general I know. He was very helpful and wanted his students to learn. He wrote the book but it is good because his tests are exactly what is in the book and he never rewords so it\'s identical. A lot of people wrote bad things about Dr. Kirk on here and I am honestly hurt by it. Take Dr. Kirk or if your a psy. major you have to, he is great and I hope he stays at Baylor for a long time. Dr. Kirk ROCKS! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - Kirk was terrible. The tests are impossible, even with the cheat sheet he lets you use. He is the only Prof for Psych Stats, so good luck with that... Bring something to do in the class or just sit by someone you like and talk the whole time, he won't notice. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:PSY 2402 - Dr. Kirk is a very nice man, although I would not recommend trying to learn the material in lecture. Get a good TA for the class, he/she will help you out the most. That is where I learned almost all of my material. I skipped quite a few lectures, and don't really feel like I missed much at all. The only thing that is important in lecture that you should be present for are the proofs, because he puts them on every test. The first test is by far the easiest one, so try to do well on it. Otherwise, if you study for the quizzes and review lab notes before exams, the class really isnt that difficult at all, especially since there is a HUGE curve based on the mean score of the class. Bottom line, score above the mean! =) - Grade In Class:A
Comments:PSY 2402 - Dr. Kirk loves what he teaches. However, the students hate it. It is the weed-out class for psych majors so don't expect it to be a breeze. Tests are cumulative and very hard. Study really hard for the first two tests and you can get an A on them. Take advantage of the memory jogger but do not rely on it. It should be used as a comfort blanket. The curve should almost aleays work in your favor. Score above the mean and DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. It's easy and takes like 30 mins. Work hard at the begin. of the semester and your hard work should pay off. GOOD LUCK! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Psych Stats - This is the "weed-out" class, Neuroscience is not. DO YOUR BEST on tests 1 & 2. It's possible to do very well, and many people don't put forth the effort. Spend a few hours on your memory jogger. Cram as much on there as possible. Test 3 is horrendous, but the good news is, everyone does terribly. Test 4 (the final) is where everyone is exhausted and miserable because it's the last day of finals, and it's raining, oh, and it's 9 in the morning. Anyway. So much advice I could give for this class... But just know that he uses a "Z curve." This means nothing to you right now, but basically how well YOU do on a test depends on how well everyone ELSE does. (I got a 40 out of 81 points on one test... and that was a B+.) It's a hard class, I won't lie, but work hard, and for goodness sakes, do well on the lab quizzes, they're more important than you think they are. Good luck... - Grade In Class:A
Comments:STATS - I also took this course in the summer, and it was actually a lot easier this way. Take advantage of the fact that he voids a test grade in the event of an excused absence. I was sick and missed an exam, and it actually helped me out in the end. Study hard hard hard for the first test, because it is by far the easiest. Get an A on it, and miss either the second or third one if you can. Take the final, and as long as you do okay on those, you will come out with a decent grade in the course. Dr. Kirk is a very nice man, and a decent teacher, but it was a tutor/grad student that helped the most in the end. Take this in the summer if you can. There were 8 in the class and at least 3 of those got A's. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - Dr. Kirk really knows his stuff and he's a wonderful teacher. This class is required so you really have no choice about taking it. It's a hard class regardless. I took it over the summer and we spent one day on stuff he normally spends two weeks on. He grades on a curve so if the highest grade is a 60 that's the A. My best advice MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR MEMORY JOGGER!!! Dr. Kirk is very smart and he expects you to really know the material. Overall the class was good and I learned so much - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - Awful awful teacher. Sorry, there's no getting around taking him, but prepare yourself. He seems cute and sweet, but don't be deceived. Lectures are a complete waste of time, so bring a book or crossword puzzle. To get an A- study the book thoroughly and make a good memory jogger. I'd suggest typing it up to fit more info. Best of luck! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - wow...hated this class and this man. first day i thought 'aw what a cute little frail old man' by the last day...lets just say i didn't have much concern for the quality of his life anymore. the lectures are a wast of time, just go for participation credit because he WILL take roll every day. if you have a crappy ta for your lab then you are screwed and you should become friends with another lab instructor. the tutor lab helps if you use it. i survived the class by taking notes on every chapter and just doing crazy detailed memory joggers. for the final i went through and did every page of the study guide and did fine. you will think you are doing horrible but he curves according to EVERYONE'S scores so as long as you studying you really should be fine. dont drop it because you will never want to take it...good luck - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:2402 - This is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. I consider myself a good math student; however, this course has very little to do with math and more to do with select memorization and reading. My main complaint is that it seems your grade is far to contingent upon your TA. My advice for the class is this, READ EVERY PAGE OF THE BOOK and pay special attention to proofs as well as the entire history of statistics for the final. I got a C+ on the first test but then read every page of subsequent chapters and received an A on every other test. Also, do not be overly concerned with your quiz grade, in other words--dont freak out about it. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - This class was awful. It is hard to stay awake in the lectures because the topics and teaching method are so boring. Bring homework to work on in this class. By the second week you get tired of hearing about how much he loves his wife and ballroom dancing. The tests are ridiculously hard and it is basically anyone's best guess as to the answers. The book, which he wrote, is no help either. The class gets confusing as everyday goes by. Only take this class if it is mandatory, and if you have to take it, just know that your life that semester will not be pleasant, and filled with MASSIVE STRESS! - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:2402 - Dr. Kirk is a sweet old man, very much in love with his wife, loves ballroom dancing, loves teaching statistics, and is far too brilliant for his own good (or his students' good, I should say). He wrote the book, so chances are if you're lost with the book (and you probably will be, especially towards the end), you'll probably have that same sinking feeling during class. My TA wasn't very good, so I felt like I was stranded. By the sheer grace of God, I ended up doing well (just 2 points shy of an A) in a class that I came to loathe because of its uncanny ability to make me feel incredibly stupid. Take advantage of the extra credit opportunities - they aren't hard at all, and the memory jogger you can use for each test...those literally saved my life more than once. I can't tell you how elated I was when I finished the course for good....a sentiment you will probably share when the end of the semester finally rolls around. Good luck! - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:2402 - This class is not impossible like some of the ratings may make it seem. But it is very close. The only way to understand his lectures is to read the material before coming to class otherwise you will be lost. Pray that you get a good TA Jo is the best. If you get anyone besides her try to contact her anyway because she is very helpful (even if you are not one of her students) Dr. Kirk is a wonderful man and it is beyond obvious he is in total love with his wife. Getting an A in this class is possible BUT you must study, you must read, and you must go 2 class and PAY ATTENTION at all these things!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - Ok, so you picked psychology as a major. There is your first mistake. This is a requirement for all psych majors, and while the class sucks, Dr. Kirk does not. I was told by three different people that I, like a majority of people, would probably get a C in this class. I had accepted my fate and decided to just cut my losses and enroll. Dr. Kirk is a nice man who is very helpful if you go to his office, but your TA/lab instructor is what counts. If you read the lariat, go online, and pretty much don't pay any attention in class, you can still pass (get a c) by writing down all the vocab and tossing in a few proofs on your memory jogger. Beware, lectures are not interesting, so take advantage of your 12 allowed absences. Finally, he grades on a very big curve using a z-statistic, so when you see a 45 for your score, know that this is STILL PASSING! Do the extra credit (4 simple one page write ups) and remember, SCORE ABOVE THE MEAN! - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:2402 - This class was as bad as I thought it was going to be...everyone told me I was going to hate this class...and I did...the material seemed so boring but I cannot stress to you how important your TA is....especially if you get a very good one-Jo is the best-she explains material so thoroughly and you can actually understand what she is saying- counter to how Kirk teaches it...tests can be challenging (the essays get ya)bc you definitely need to read but take advantage of that cheat sheet you get!! I would put all the vocab on your sheet...that's a start. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - Honestly, I have NO idea where these comments on here come from. I heard all of this plus horror stories from people, so I was dreading this class so much. But seriously, Dr. Kirk is GREAT! He is sooo funny and sweet. I think he explains everything very well. I would recommend reading the book before you go to class so you already have some idea of what he's going to discuss. If you do that and then listen to his lecture, it should fix all of the fuzzy areas. He's easy to talk to, and even gives you his home phone # if you really need to call him (just not after 9.. then he's in the tub, haha). He's a very sweet, funny old man and an exceptional teacher. Go into his class with a good attitude, and I assure you that you'll do just fine. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - Dr. Kirk is a nice old man with a good, albeit sometimes a little odd, sense of humor. He is incredibly intelligent, but not a good teacher. The book is kind of hard to understand too. I recommend reading the book after listening to the lecture so you at least have a context to figure out what's going on (which you have to do either by yourself or from your lab instructor). Every test is cumulative, and has a short answer section. The plus side though is that you can make a cheat sheet. Take your time when you read the book, and keep up with the reading, maybe try to make your own notes from the book so you understand it better, and you'll be alright. But I would recommend taking another professor if the option is available. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:PSY 2402 - Dr. Kirk is hilarious, he dances in class and has a great sense of humor. He cares about his students and is not an 'evil man' as some have said. He is old, a little hard to understand, and you definitely learn the material in your lab, not in his lecture. Therefore, you need to get a good TA ~ Jo is by far the best. If you do your work, study, and make a good memory jogger you'll be fine - Grade In Class:A
Comments:PSY 2402 - Dr. Kirk is extremely hard to understand. Unfortunately, he also wrote the textbook, so that is no help. Tests seem impossible, but there is always a huge curve because everyone else does just as bad. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:PSY 2402 - This was the easiest class I have taken at Baylor. You get to make a cheat sheet for the tests. Your grade is basically determined by how well everyone else does, but he never curves down. Labs are really boring and pointless since the TA just reteaches everything that Dr. Kirk already taught. Also, go to the labs because they are worth 5 extra credit points that will be added to your final grade. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2402 - at first i thought this class wouldnt be bad to sit through since he does have a sense of humor but now i can honestly say that this is the worst class i have ever had to sit through. dr kirk is an evil old man who doesnt care if the students undestand him or not. the tests suck and the book makes no sense. this class almost made me want to change majors - Grade In Class:B
Comments:PSY 2402 - Nice guy, but sooooo boring. Good lord, RETIRE ALREADY! He doesnt know how to teach and his tests are pretty difficult. You'll learn everything in lab. He does give a nice curve though. Recommend taking this class somewhere besides Baylor. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:Stats - HE IS AN EVIL LITTLE MAN!!!! I did not enjoy his class one bit! Charolette was an angel from heaven who saved me from that horrible class. He reminds me of Mr. Burns from The Simpson...RETIRE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!!!!!! - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:This is definitely a class in which you have to earn an A. He's not the easiest lecturer to understand; I guess he's just a little too brilliant. But he's got a great sense of humor. A good TA (or even one who speaks understandable English) would be an incredible help; but unfortunately none seem to be available.
Comments:Dr. Kirk is extremely intelligent, but if you don't understand his book or lecture, he doesn't really know how else to get his point across. A lot depends on what TA you get for lab, but none are outstanding.
Comments:Sucks at lecturing. Doesn't know how to teach at all. The tests are pretty hard too, but he gives a pretty good curve.
