Comments:4350 - Professor Young is one of the best Finance Professors in the Business School. He is really good at teaching the material while not overwhelming you with homework. I felt like I really learned the material. He genuinely cares about the content of his course, the exams, and the design. Very intentional guy and cares about true learning.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1310 - Dr. Young is an excellent professor. While his class is challenging—as should be expected for this subject—he does a great job preparing students for success. He clearly explains the material that will be on the exams and provides helpful review videos for studying. The course uses a homework platform called Acepti, which is a much better alternative to Pearson. One of the things I appreciated most about Dr. Young is that he occasionally integrates his faith into lectures, showing how financial concepts are addressed in Scripture. It added a unique and meaningful perspective to the course. Toward the end of the semester, particularly in the chapter on risk and statistics, the pace of the class accelerated significantly. As a result, I struggled to fully grasp some of the later material. The course uses a bell curve grading system, so your final grade depends on how the rest of the class performs. For finance majors who need at least a B-, this makes it especially important to stay focused and perform well. In our class, we learned during finals week that a B- equated to an 80%. All exams are administered on Canvas using Lockdown Browser. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this format because it left room for academic dishonesty. Some students would complete the written portion and then take their laptops outside to finish the rest, which was frustrating—especially with the curved grading system. Dr. Young was generally available during office hours, although his set times often conflicted with other classes. However, he was responsive to emails and willing to accommodate students when possible. One odd policy was his attendance rule: after three absences, your final grade would be docked 2.5 points for each additional absence. This didn’t affect me since I never missed class, but it's something to be aware of. Overall, Dr. Young is a solid professor, and I would definitely recommend taking his class—especially when compared to other instructors like Dr. Dicks.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3310 - Brian is a nice guy, but pretty boring. He does better with smaller class sizes I think. The curve was insane because the average on all the test was failing. My biggest complaint is that you get 3 free absences and then he takes 2.5 points off your FINAL grade for each on after.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:FIN 3310 - The class is easy enough but my problem was during his lectures. I could never pay attention during them as he made them so boring, its not like I can't pay attention during class it is his lectures. I could tell you what we covered the previous class. If he did not have the very weird attendance policy for Baylor of 3 free absences then 2.5 off the FINAL OVERALL grade, I would have never went to class and just watched the video lectures (that were from wake forest kind of obviously). The curving was helpful but not needed for me because I just locked in a few days before the exam and had to go back over the entire material. When I looked for this class, he was the only prof so you may have to take him but just watch the video lectures is my suggestion.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3310 - The instructor is honest about his limited command of the material, but that transparency never evolves into effective teaching. Lectures consist almost entirely of Excel demonstrations—with no opportunity for discussion or student involvement—and the content often bears little relationship to what appears on exams, which understandably depresses attendance. Worse, we’re shown problems in Excel and then expected to reproduce the same techniques by hand under exam conditions, without any clear guidance. A nice man but not a professor to take if you care about the class, most students seem to be passing solely due to his curve  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3310 - Disclaimer: Please ignore prior reviews. As many of you know, they completely evolved the way they do corporate finance 3310 at Baylor, so these old reviews are not how the class goes anymore Not sure why the scores are so low. This dude is awesome. He might’ve had the easiest task in the world following up the David Dicks disaster in the fall, but he killed it. It was in room 240 and still had like 100+ kids, but he commands the class so well. He’s always cracking dad jokes and making fun real world examples which make finance concepts easy to grasp. You really do have to pay attention I will say, as his slides are pretty limited and don’t always have paragraphs explicitly explaining what’s on there. Same goes for the examples we do in class, as they always mirror test questions so you need to follow along. These were all I wrote down, as it wasn’t really necessary to take notes.
The best part of the structure was the new homework software he used. It was a cheap site called Accepi that was SO easy to use and he was able to write the questions so there was nothing weird and they didn’t take 10 hours a week like in Dicks class. The tests were interesting. They were taken during a normal class period (not at home whenever like Dicks) on Canvas (no Lockdown) and were mostly MC, but with a paper of a few FRQs you turned in to him as well. I didn’t find them too difficult, but the averages indicated they were decently hard. The other best part of the HW is that you can just redo the problems and it gives you different numbers, which is the best way to practice and was so nice. However, the rough part is that the 2 exams are worth 27% each and the final 34%, meaning only 12% for the homework, so you really need to perform well. T hey are still using the sort of unorthodox grading structure this semester where the top 80% of the class are guaranteed a B- and up (which is important for those wanting to be finance majors) and the bottom 20% get below that. I’m not sure what letter grade I’ll actually get, but the way he explained it is that you can’t actually get below the % that you have and if anything, you’ll get curved up into the next group if there’s room. Kinda confusing, but just be on the right side of it and you won’t have to worry. Overall, strongly recommend.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4360 - Dr. Young is great, tests are always fair, he's very passionate about what he teaches, and he always tries to make what you're learning applicable to things you would do, or experience, in the real world. The only complaint is his standard office hours are very limited (like once a week for 2 hours), but he is pretty easy to schedule a meeting if you reach out to him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3310 - I cannot be a finance major because of this class. His class seems more fast paced compared to the other 3310 classes. You get 2 exams (25%) and a final (35%) and they are difficult. I studied so hard yet I don't do well on the exams. He does not give any exam reviews with extra practice. Just a study guide telling you to look over the slides. He is a nice professor, but I wish we had more opportunities to improve our grade.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:3310 - Homework takes a while and can be tough but he is a pretty good lecturer and gives you good study materials for the exam. If you don't know your stuff you will not pass his class as exams are almost 100% FRQ. Pretty nice guy overall.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:FIN 3310 - Dr. Young is really nice and fun to talk to, however, I do not think he is a good professor (for my style of learning at least). If you are naturally a really good student, then he is perfect for you but if you struggle at all he is not for you. The homework takes around 4-6 hours and is due on Sunday. I think that this is a fair amount of work but the thing that makes it terrible is the fact that it is so different from the practice questions in class. Dr. Young is always telling students to come in and ask for help, but he is the least helpful professor I have had at Baylor and makes it sound like an inconvenience that you need help. He also won't respond to your emails half of the time. When you do go to his office hours, he will answer your questions with "Oh this is easy we basically went over this already". This always bothers me because most of the time we basically didn't go over it and it isn't easy, that’s why I am asking about it. He will also constantly tell you to just look at his slides if you are struggling but his slides are practically useless. The only good thing about his slides is that the problems on it are similar to the ones asked on the exam (but he doesn't post the answers you just do it in class). The practice questions on the slides are the only practice questions you get other than the homework, but that doesn't help. This means that when you study you will just be doing the same four questions per chapter over and over again which isn't very helpful if you need a lot of practice.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:FIN 3310 - Dr. Young is a very nice professor who loves to get to know his students on a personal level and loves to make dad jokes in the middle of class (usually only one or two people laugh). Fall 2023 is his first semester teaching here at Baylor. He used to teach at Wake Forest. His class is constructed as 6% HW, 9% Quiz, 25% Exam 1, 25% Exam 2, and 35% final. His exams come straight from his lectures and practice problems he assigns and are very straight forward. The class averages for Exam 1 and 2 have been a 78 and a 73 before the 3-4 point curve on each exam. With the exams coming straight from class, it honestly amazes me how low these class averages are when the exams simply aren't that hard. There's HW and a quiz due every Sunday night. The HW is unlimited attempts, but the quiz is only one attempt which usually consists of HW questions just with different numbers. Overall, if you show up to class, take notes, and stay on top of your weekly assignments, you should do fairly well. No matter who you take, it will be hard to make an A since you need a 94 no matter who you take.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3310 - Dr. Young is a new prof to Baylor (started Fall of 2023). He is knowledgeable and primarily teaches from slides and some excel. He has hw and a quiz on the hw due every Sunday at midnight that can take upwards of 4-6 hours to complete both. His exams are difficult as he words things in a unique way at times. He does give a generous curve, but the fact that a 94 is an A in FIN 3310 makes this course hard. Super kind professor and always willing to schedule addition office hours if needed. I would take him again if given the opportunity.  - Grade In Class:A
