Comments:3310 - After 2024 Dicksaster, here comes a worse one. The previous comments might be too exaggerated, but they are true!!! Maybe we need some Handy army to clarify these fake news. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3310 - The worst of the worst! He CANNOT teach! I honestly wonder how he even has a finance phd. It feels like he lacks real intellectual depth but still knows how to blah blah blah… It’s a miracle that he still has a teaching job at Baylor. Funny that he also had POOR teaching ratings at his previous schools, which seems evidently consistent... - Grade In Class:B
Comments:3310 - THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST CLASS AT BAYLOR AND THE WORST PROFESSOR OF ALL TIME, I WANTED TO END IT ALL AND JUMP FROM THE 4TH FLOOR OF FOSTER, HOW DOES HANDMAN STILL HAVE A JOB. WHATEVER YOU DO EVEN IF YOURE THINKING ABOUT TAKING THIS CLASS AND HAVE BEARWEB OPEN RIGHT NOW... DO NOT TAKE HIM, YOULL WANNA CHANGE YOUR MAJOR, 260 PEOPLE DROPPED THE CLASS AFTER THE FIRST EXAM, ITS SO HORRIBLE OMG, WHERE DO I EVEN START, ITS A DIRTY WEED OUT FINANCE CLASS THAT TEACHES YOU NOTHING AND THE EXAMS ARE IMPOSSIBLE, CLASS AVERAGE WAS A 68 ON THE FIRST EXAM AND HE'S OVER TALKIN BOUT SUM 2 POINT CURVE!! GEE THANKS MAN THAT REALLY HELPS, TAKE IT ONLINE, TAKE IT ANOTHER SEMESTER, DONT TAKE HIM - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:FIN 3310 - I have so many issues with Handy, it's not even funny. Finance is by no means an easy subject, but it often feels like he goes out of his way to make it harder than it needs to be. He contradicts the textbook, whether it's on definitions or formulas, and he is very unforgiving when students don't understand the concepts that he rushes through in class. He said himself on the first day of class that he expects us to put in at least a couple hours a day of studying for his class, which is entirely unreasonable if you're taking a normal course load. His exams are supposed to be easy, and I personally can't complain about not doing well on them because I don't understand the material. I will say that the ONE time I went to his office hours with questions, he looked at me and told me that if I was struggling "this much" at that point in the semester (4 weeks in), that I should probably change my major. I don't care who you are, that is an insane response to a question about finance. If you have any opportunity to, AVOID HANDY. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:3309 - This is a class that I was terrified to take, and the first day of his class made it worse- when he talked about how much work it is. But in that very moment I decided to man up and face it head on. Let me say hard work pays off, if you truly do the homework and practice before exams its a piece of cake, but if you take the normal approach like my friends did in this class of using chatgpt on homework and cramming the night before you won't do good. I believe all the bad reviews are from people who used chat and crammed- too bad. If it was easy everyone could do it. Dr. Handy is the goat. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:FIN 3310 - The only class i have ever hated going to school for. I never wore my seatbelt while driving to school because i wanted to die before making it to his class. Got a 58 on the first exam average was a 70 and went back to class and he said welcome to college. sir.... if only you taught a little better. It was also his first time teaching this section soooo.... Had to drop the class in order to save my grade and take the W. - Grade In Class:DROP
Comments:3309 - Alright. I made an account just for a review. Finance did not come easy to me, and with the reviews I was seeing for Professor Handy, I was worried that this class would tank my GPA. Boy was I wrong. Professor Handy can see if you are putting the work in and will let you know. He is always available to chat and is a super fair Prof. I cannot recommend him enough. This class is tough, yeah, but if you work hard and show him you're dedicated to succeeding, you'll do just fine. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3309 - As a marketing major I was nervous about taking this class, especially after reading some of the other reviews. Yes - there is a good amount of work. But the CANVAS site is straight forward and he is upfront about this from day 1. What is up with all the tangent comments? I actually liked his stories and life advice. I actually got an internship because of some of the advice! His exams are like 70% from the test bank and he gives you access to the test bank. Spam the text bank practice quizzes!!! So helpful. Def recommend him. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:FIN 3303 - TAKE THIS CLASS OVER THE SUMMER. This course was fairly easy. The reflections, readings, and homework assignments are not very difficult. Do not wait until the last day to do the homework assignments as they are long and can take up to two or three hours. The professor was responsive and nice, also very helpful. He reached out to me to make sure that I was not falling behind after missing two small assignments. 75-90% of the questions presented in each chapter's test practice test will be on the exam. All exams are multiple choice and all vocab quizzes are 50% multiple choice and 50% short answer. I'm glad I took this over the summer because it can be done in less than provided summer term and class is asynchronous only. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:FIN 3309 - If Professor Handy is reading this out loud in class right now… it might be too late for you. I, too, sat in your seat thinking, “How bad could it be?”. And just like you’re about to, I learned the hard way: every review you’re hearing? Not exaggerated. Handy loves to say that learning finance is like learning to swim. Which sounds inspirational until you realize his idea of “teaching” is tossing you straight into the deep end and yelling “just float!” Spoiler: finance isn’t swimming. And Handy is no lifeguard. I tried, I really did. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, showed up ready to learn, stayed open-minded. But somewhere between the endless tangents and the lectures that felt more like unsolicited TED Talks, I realized... maybe the doubt was right. Handy has one way of explaining things and if you don’t get it his way, well... good luck. You might end up feeling more confused than when you walked in. He means well, I think, but the execution is rough. Like, “wish I could jump out the window” rough. One minute you’re learning about interest rates, the next you're deep in a monologue about why women are less confident than men. Half the class is unrelated filler, but hey — you might walk out with some life advice you didn’t ask for. There are many red flags. Mixed messages. Odd tangents. A truly unfortunate story involving a former student’s OnlyFans that no one needs to hear again (or hear at all). Even if he thinks it relates to finance, there are lines, sir. To wrap this up, you’ll laugh, but not for the reasons you’d hope. I ended the semester with less respect than I started with, and a stronger appreciation for the mute button. Come for the finance. Stay because you're too far past the drop deadline. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:FIN 3309 - Dude- put down the stick, the horse is dead!! look, I get the feeling you are trying to teach us life lessons or something, but this is a finance class and I need all the in-class instructional time that I can get. No one asked for a 20 minute rant about how Baylor students are rich kids whose mommies and daddies pay for everything, or how much he gets paid and what a good professor he is (I wish I was kidding, I really do). If this is the only professor you can take, it will probably be ok, but you'll need to learn most of the stuff outside of class - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3309 - Is this class easy. No. But he sets you up very well to succeed. Homework is relatively moderate and exams aren't to bad as long as you do the practice exams he gives you a bunch of times. I, myself, genuinely looked forward to his class each day just because he told lots of applicable stories relating to finance and his personality makes the class very fun. I am not usually one to participate in class a lot but I found myself talking a lot during class and participating a ton. So, as I said, this class isn't easy, but it was manageable and I feel like I am actually walking away learning important things regarding finance that will help me once I graduate. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:FIN 3309 - Run. His class is manageable as far as homework and the overall workload. Exams are pretty tricky, but if you study and practice they're not horrible (usually a C+ average). Handy does drop your lowest exam grade which was super helpful for my grade. However, Dr. Handy has a very unique personality that is not for everyone (it was definitely not for me.) He rambles on about random stories from his life that have no relevance to the material and honestly just make it hard to follow what you're actually learning. He preaches about how Baylor students are just rich and privileged and that our mommies and daddies pay for everything(including his salary, but he didn't feel the need to mention that.) He makes uncomfortable comments and is just overall abrasive. If you couldn't care less about personality, I'd say you probably wont mind the class. If you don't want to be belittled almost every lecture, again I say, run. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3309 - I was originally sooo scared to take Dr. Handy because of all these terrible reviews. Honestly though, I loved his class, I think he was a great professor who made it clear he cares about his students. He would always try to make finance applicable for us non-majors and would offer financial advice to us if we needed it. I won’t say the class was an easy A because it’s definitely something you need to work for, but Handy made the process much more enjoyable with his (actually) funny jokes and upbeat lectures. I think if u have to take 3309 I 10/10 recommend Handy. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3309 - If Professor Handy is reading this during class like he does every semester, drop the class. There are plenty of easier teachers. He is a cool guy but the class is just hard and its a bit hard to learn from him. He gave us a formula sheet to use which Praise God for because without it we we're all going to fail (Give them a formula sheet, they won't have to remember formulas in the real world especially with Google and Excel) - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3309 - Honestly, he's probably one of the worst professors to take. If you check his profile, you'll see he's bounced around a few schools, and it looks like students didn’t like him there either. It's unfortunate that he's still teaching at Baylor given his history at other schools, where he received consistently negative feedback and short stints. His personality is just off-putting. He brushes off student concerns and makes you feel bad if you're struggling. What's funny is he seemed to try to get some positive comments in December 2023, but that didn’t last long. Negative reviews keeps flooding back right after. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:FIN 3309 - Prof Handy consistently talks about how much he cares for his students and there are times when that is definitely felt but, for the most part, he is unapologetically himself despite being given negative feedback. He says he loves data and feedback until it's negative and then defends himself and invalidates those who try to ask for change. His teaching style comes off as abrasive and intimidating and if it doesn't work for you he makes you feel like it is your fault. He is not a bad professor but be prepared to be frustrated in class and left feeling belittled. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:FIN 3309 - He knows the material and provides resources for learning. You definitely need to attend class because he doesn't post completed notes, but he does post lecture videos from COVID, which works well for exam reviews. For his second semester at Baylor, he was engaged with students, the material, and on campus. I thought that the first two exams were fair and the final wasn't cumulative, but it was harder than the first two exams. If you leave the class knowing anything about Dr. Handy, it's that he loves his daughter and cares about his students. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3309 - Learned most the course work on my own time because he goes off topic a lot. Also, he is not good at responding to emails. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3303 - I took Professor Handy online this past semester. He's an okay teacher. His lectures are very boring and kinda helpful. There are 2 assignments each week which is a reflection and a discussion post. However on exam week, there are 2 additional assignments, one a homework and one vocab quiz. Every single homework set was sooooo long so DO NOT wait until the last minute to do it because it will take 2-4 hours. However, it is an easy completion grade so just do all of it and you will get a 100. For each vocab quiz and exam, there were practice questions which were EXTREMELY helpful in preparing for the vocab quizzes and test. It shows you the format and 70% of the problems on the exam practice will be on your test so make sure to do them. The practice vocab quiz will be just like your actual quiz. Overall, he was a good professor. He was very informative. I just wish there was less of a workload (mainly the homework), however, if you stay on top of it, then you will be fine. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Fin 3309 - The worst one to take. He talks about random stuff all class and barely teaches the concepts. Does not know the answers to his own homework questions, and when you try to go into his office hours he is not helpful at all. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:3309 - Handy helps a lot with being prepared for tests, which I appreciate. He gives you resources and if you put in the work, you should be prepared for them for the most part. This class is hard and there is a lot of work, try to not wait until the last minute to do things. For instance, the homework is due for everything the day before the test, but it will take a long time so you should do it as you learn. I think he tries to be relatable to us or something, but he makes uncomfortable comments and I do not always appreciate how he talks about other students of his, or stories about his own family. He also does not go over everything in class, so make sure you understand the McGraw Hill homework. Also, he goes on tangents a lot and does not always give us really important formulas that are in the book. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:FIN3309 - great if you like tangents, random stories, and yapping. bad if you want to learn the material in class to pass the exams. busy work assignments - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:FIN 3309 - He says that he is always available to talk, but then does not respond to his emails. He tells random stories that don’t pertain to exam material whatsoever, and gets off topic so much. The only way I was able to learn in his class was by watching the lecture videos. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:FIN 3309 - For someone who isn't a finance Major, Dr. Handy is literally the man to take for this class. He is awesome at teaching, and makes sure that you understand the material. This is usually a hard subject in the business school, but with Dr. Handy you are in good hands. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:3309 - No better professor to take for finance than Handy. Smart guy and super funny. I actually learned a ton about finance, and got a good grade despite being a marketing major who sucks at finance. Take Prof Handy if you wanna do well - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3309 - Finance is a tough course, but Dr. Handy makes the class entertaining with his stories and jokes. He cares a lot about his students and caters the class towards them. He posts his lecture videos, and his tests are based on practice problems. He gives you all the resources you need to do well if you put in the work. He is a great professor, and an even nicer guy. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:FIN 3309 - Dr. Handy is the best professor to take for finance. Finance is not my strong suit, and I was definitely worried about the class going in. However, Handy is super nice and wants his students to succeed. His reflection assignments are a grade booster, he offers bonus assignments to get your grade up, and his tests are copied and pasted from the practice problems. He also makes himself available to students in office hours and responds very quickly to emails. I struggled with concepts, but he was super understanding. Very nice man, and opened each class in prayer. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3309 - Dr. Handy is one of my favorite professors I have ever had. You can tell how much he genuinely cares about all of his students. He gives you every possible chance to succeed and learn. He is also the funniest guy, his commentary and jokes make the class incredibly enjoyable and it adds to the curriculum because it makes you actually want to go to class. Take Handy, his class isn't easy but you will actually learn something. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3309 - Jon Handy is one of, if not the best professor I have had since coming to Baylor! He is so outgoing in class and is a very down to earth guy. Out of all the classes I've taken this semester, his FIN 3309 class allowed me to learn the most and I was actually excited to learn. Yes, he goes on rants sometimes, doesn't finish the slides, and tells us to finish it on our own time, which can be a pain, but he actually cares about his students success. He sent us an email checking in on us once, it was really kind. Yes, there is some pointless work that we do, like some homework problems. The weekly discussion posts and reflection can be annoying too, but sometimes it helps to learn. Pay attention, take notes, watch his videos, and go to office hours and you will do great! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:FIN 3309 - This course is really hard, especially for non-finance majors but I can say that Dr. Handy can definitely help you! If you don't understand something please feel free to go to office hours and ask for help, he will be happy to do so. Some comments say that he always tells other stories in class, but in my opinion, those stories also give us an understanding of those points and it becomes less boring. The truth is I wasn't good at this course but Dr. Handy kept me from giving up and continuing the semester. - Grade In Class:C
Comments:3309 - The comments that were on here origninally were WAY TOO LOW. Dr. Handy is super helpful and is great at breaking down the quantitative problems. At first I didn't really understand concepts, but Dr. Handy helped me through his office hours and walked me through the steps. By far the best professor I have ever had at Baylor, and he is someone who is genuinely very caring and funny and wants the best for everyone. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3309 - Dr. Handy is one of my favorite professors at Baylor. The subject is difficult and takes practice, but he makes it very doable. There is little homework, just a problem set before each test, a reflection due each week, and a discussion board due each week. The reflection and discussion board are grade boosters. His exams are just like the practice problems from class and the homework. Dr. Handy cares very much about his students and gives you everything you need to succeed. Anyone who isn't doing well is not trying or using all the materials he gives. Dr. Handy is very welcoming and helpful in office hours and is good about answering questions in class. Don't let the other reviews scare you, I guarantee the people writing them just hate every challenging subject. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:3309 - This is a hard class but Professor Handy is the best and cares deeply about his students. He makes class a lot of fun and makes the material understandable. - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1309 - It's not worth it. He's super nice, but is a horrendous teacher. Most of the class is a waste of time because he goes on side rants and talks about topics unrelated to the exam. He talks about his side hustles and the housing market all the time, and relates the class to that. But that isn't on the exams. Majority of class is topics that are not on the exam so we are forced to figure it out on your own. The homework assignments are due the day before each test and are super complex. They are difficult to understand because he doesn't do any practice problems. Also, he says that half of the homework assignments are not necessarily related to the test, so you are learning how to do problems and wasting your time to get a good grade on the homework. But, you won't get a good grade on the homework because he never teaches you how to do the problems. Then, he gets frustrated that we don't speak up in class, but everyone is lost so there isn't anything to say. Take a different professor. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:3309 - Dr Handy is nowhere near as bad as that last review says. It is Finance, so most people struggle through the class, but at least Handy makes it pretty entertaining. Your grade pretty much comes down to the tests, the other assignments are a discussion post and reflection (which felt useless, but easy enough to complete). Our class was in the morning and he is very energetic. One day he made us do a lap to "wake up" before class. He throws a lot of things at you but it's generally easy to remember. - Grade In Class:B+
Comments:1309 - This professor is one of the worst I have taken at Baylor. He gives a ton of busy work every week that has nothing to do with the whats on the test. You have practice questions to work on, a discussion post, vocab quizzes, homework sets, and reflection assignments every week. He gets heated at the class the day after an exam if he doesn't think we did well enough. He also will get upset when we "look tired" in class. He is just generally super harsh and not approachable. Also talks about his wife in a super rude way in class and about he she "b****" at him. Very unprofessional. Has taught at like 5 schools in the past 5 years. That should be a huge red flag. Do not take this class! - Grade In Class:A
