Comments:1305 - I have never despised a class so much. She was knowledgeable but only referred to how important the subject was to genetics very often. Test questions were given as trick questions. Only has 1 hw assignment per chapter, very easy. NONE of the slides were up to date and it was detrimental if you missed one class due to missed slides/ information. ALSO, she yanked my calculator off my desk and tossed it in the front of the class... $150 btw! my wonderful SI STEPHANIE MY GOATTTT she was the reason I got a C in the class, hope you are well!  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2306 - I did not enjoy Dr. Luna's class at all. Personally, I found her teaching style hard to follow and frankly, pretty annoying. Her slides in Canvas would not match the slides in her lectures, and she would not explain a lot of stuff in detail. Her class, for the most part, would go like this: "okay do you guys get it?" us: silence, her: "okay can you explain it? (points to one of her LAs)" Honestly, the only reason I got the grade I did was because of the LA practice exams and the textbook. Her exams are practically worth your entire grade, so it is truly sink or swim. Oh, also be ready! Because those exams that are worth 80% of your grade are only 25 questions each. 3 questions wrong, and you're already down to a B. Overall, I would not recommend her. Take Paine or another genetics professor and save yourself the agony of impending doom on nights before one of Luna's exams.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - She is awful. Her slides do not prepare you for the exams at all. She also expects you to have good background knowledge and understanding of biology. She contradicts herself, calls on students to explain, and then gets mad when they are confused about what she is talking about. She also has her favorites, and it's very obvious. There are only 50 points of homework, and the rest come from exams. She is extremely rude especially when lockdown browser isn't working and then she'll blame you for it. Her SIs also do not help. You'd better read the textbook if you want any chance of succeeding in her class.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Bio 2306 Genetics - I really don't understand the bad reviews for Dr. Luna as her class was fine and her explanations of topics were also fine. Her accent seriously isn't that bad either. It's thick but nothing you can't understand. I will say though the LA and SI practice tests and the "tricky topic" videos (a resource made by an old LA/SI or student, I'm not sure) are what carried my grade. Had I relied on Dr. Luna's teaching I would not have gotten an A as you're not really taught skills to solve problems during lecture, you're just taught the idea. Overall, I feel it was very doable to get an A in the class using those resources and putting the work in. Dr. Luna gave 5 opportunities throughout this semester to get extra credit, which ended up giving me 2 bonus points on one test and 8 bonus points on my final which is almost unheard of for a stem class. Dr. Luna does have an attitude and there's very little grace when things go wrong that are out of your control. If thats something you can't handle don't take her, but if you're fine just going to to get your grade, she's fine. She does indeed pick favorites (guys it seems) and if you're not one of them she really doesn't acknowledge you nor want to have a relationship with you. As a person she wasn't my favorite, but her class was fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIO 2306 - Don't let her trick you. She seems really sweet, but she's secretly very evil. For starters, she is horrible at teaching, like one of the worst professors I've ever had. I have never had to overwork myself more for a C in my LIFE. She relies heavily on her TAs and LAs to teach the material for her. In my class, she has like 5 helpers, and she made it her mission to victimize them too!!! If you are unable to teach yourself topics, don't take her because you will end up teaching yourself genetics. To finish this off, she's also not helpful at all. I went to her before my final and was like, "How could I get my grade up?" and her response was something along the lines of "you'd probably be better off failing the course and taking it again." Your boy still got that C tho!! Anyway, don't take this teacher, she's highkey evil.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:BIO 1305 - I would not reccomend her class. I didn't have a strong bio background and have been so lost. Her lectures are all over the place. her slides are on canvas but have of them she doesn't use or has another version of (that we don't have). she also jumps around constantly. she's a nice lady and there's not a ton of classwork, but I don't understand anymore about bio then when I started. her tests are awful, the SI practice is literally no help.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1305 - In class, Dr. Luna is a super sweet and passionate lady, but as much as I like her as a person, I did not benefit from her teaching at all. Her lectures were okay, but do not depend solely on soley just her slides to study for her exams. Her SI, on the other hand, was extremely helpful.. Also, note that your grade comes from only exams, but she does give a lot of extra credit opportunities for the final. She doesn't take Pearson homework as a grade, but it is extra credit for the final. Her exams were tricky, in my opinion, but I did like how she incorporates SI practice exam questions. I also took AP bio before coming in, and I felt like that helped a lot, but if you're looking for an easy A (well, no Baylor science will be an easy A), I wouldn't recommend this class.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:4312 - Viruses and Global Health - Most of the test materials come directly from the slides, though I sometimes refer to the textbook and Dr. Racaniello's video on YouTube for additional clarification. There are plenty of opportunities to earn extra credits (around 6-7 points average) through discussion and in-class quizzes/activities. The test averages are in the usual range between 70-90. The grading format is as all MCQ with a few FRQ exams (4 exams in total, final replace one of the exam grades). The class is sometimes discussion-based at times, due to the nature of this class, political conversation will be part of the discussion and I recommend coming to class to have an open-mindedness to learn. Dr. Luna is very helpful and kind when you ask questions in class or during office hours. Although there are no prerequisite, I highly recommend taking this class with immunology or microbiology. I took this class while taking microbiology and have already completed immunology which helped a lot. Now, out of the four years I have at Baylor, this class has to be my favorite (that may or may not change the trajectory of my life). I highly recommend this class if you are one of that students who are SICK of learning about cells or model organisms and want to learn about something new. This class is very unique in the fact that it's one of those classes that emphasize understanding real-life problems and their obstacles (i.e. measles, polio, etc.) Dr. Luna highlights those examples very frequently in her lectures which help the learning process and engagement of the class. Additionally, she is a very approachable and highly knowledgeable professor who does not mind you asking for clarification, even if she has repeated multiple times. You can go to her office hours and talk about anything related to viruses. Although this class is less challenging than the "actual" virology class, which focuses heavily on mechanisms and protein structures, it is still a strong introduction to this lucrative and highly impactful to public health and medicine. Although I wish the university offered a virology focus class, I still very much enjoy this class and would take a high-level class if it was offered.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4312 (virology) - There's one other review before me about the Virology class. It's honestly not very accurate. I think she saw it and took its feedback into account. As of Spring 2025 the class is restructed to be 100% exam grades. I watched all the videos the previous post mentioned but that content never really showed up on the tests. The first couple tests were actually really difficult (averages in the 70s, but our most recent test had a 90 avg. Tons of extra credit. We're talking like 5-7 points per exam, including the final which can replace an exam. You definitely have to study tho, cuz some of her questions are annoying select-all. She definitely has good days and bad days, as many posts on here have already said. I like this class, but it's just so depressing at times to learn just how mismanaged our health system is. The class kind of branches into immuno a little bit, but taking immuno is not necessary to do well in this class (I haven't taken it)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIO 1305 - I did take AP bio before taking her class, which did help a lot. All of the homework was optional, but we could do it for extra credit. She had 4 tests one of which got dropped and then the final all an equal percent. Assigned a ton of extra credit that brought my grade up probably 3-4 points total. A huge reason why I did well in her class however was I went to most of the SI sessions. DO THE SI PRACTICE TESTS. She re uses usually at least 2-3 of the questions from those and those are usually the harder questions. Her final is at least 50 percent maybe more questions from the previous tests so i thought it was fairly easy. Although her accent is confusing at first you get used to it and she is a very nice lady at least to me.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - 1305 – I love Dr. Luna. I took her Fall of ’24, and was initially just as concerned with her BU Books reviews as you, but I SWORE in the first two weeks of her class that I would leave her a good review because I loved her. I dreaded having science at 8am (bc I’m a normal person) but ended up enjoying every lecture she gave. Luna is a smart, enthusiastic and spirited Latina professor and mother who has a deep love for science – if you speak to her with respect and gentleness, she will return unto you the same. I did NOT take AP Bio in high school, which concerned me much with this class, but I was just fine. Bio is a difficult subject – if you sign up for bio you must study (obviously), but I studied and achieved a B+ with moderate effort and no science background. However, despite this class being my favorite that I took, I still understood that science was not my forté, and this class provided the assurace that I needed to switch my major out of stem. With that having been said, for bio majors, Dr. Luna has my highest recommendation.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Genetics - Actually such an awful teacher. She was very rude and passive aggressive to her students. She had her couple of favorites which is okay to have but she only bases whether she likes you or not- on how you are doing in the class. Her class is based strictly off of test scores-- no homework or quiz grades. She only gives extra credit for the final. Her tests are 25 questions long so you can't miss anything! No room for error- Keep in mind I am in the Honors College and had a 4.0 all of freshman year. Her class was by far the worst- she put stuff on the test when she said she would not. Even the Learning Objectives that the SI had were missing information. She does not play fair when it comes to material. Her final was not that bad because she resuses questions from previous exams but it's still hard if you don't understand even the smallest stuff to their full extent. Studying for her exam felt never-ending  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - She has a very thick accent, speaks way too fast, and writes some information on the board trying to explain important things. But because her handwriting is so bad, and her continuous use of abbreviations for terms is terrible, you can't understand much of what she's writing because there are so many similar terms in bio. She doesn't want to help you if you aren't her favorite. She's an alright person outside of class but DO NOT TAKE HER AS A TEACHER. I could never keep up and went to every SI, but didn't get much out of it. She doesn't let you review the exams except during her office hours but you can't write or take pictures of anything to go over and practice what you missed. She has 4 exams and 1 final and that's it. She will drop your lowest exam grade but there are no other assignments besides 2 extra credit points the whole year that won't help cushion your grades. Her exams are worded very weirdly and she closes the exam early even when you have at least a minute left with questions unanswered. The exams are very specific so you need to study a lot more than you think. She might be all happy and bubbly in class, but on exam days she is a whole different person and will act cold and not smile. She will also make you feel uncomfortable by walking around the class, taking pictures of the class at random to make sure you're not cheating and stare into your eyes right in front of you so it's harder to concentrate, especially if you are a bad test taker. Because the only homework she has due is mastering biology, even though she doesn't count it as any assignment to boost your grade, make sure to read the bio textbook and memorize from there because it's way more helpful than listening to her lectures. So the workload is almost nothing that she assigns but how much you have to study makes the workload 1 star. If you took AP Bio in high school that should help you though. She doesn't post any lectures because then "nobody will show up to class". I'm a bio major and if I don't pass the final with flying colors then I have to retake this class and it will put me behind in my time at Baylor. I might have gotten higher if I had more time to study, but with 17 credit hours of classes, I was very busy even though I devoted countless hours studying for her exams. Overall save your GPA and take someone else.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:1305 - If you arent her favorite SHE DOESN'T WANT TO HELP YOU. shes just rude and sassy and genuinely dont take this class if you want a semi easy bio experience. Shes just not a good lecture and person  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:1306 - Dr. Luna is such a sweet person. She clearly knows biology, but her accent took some getting used to, and she goes very fast in class. I enjoyed listening to her, because she is really nice, but I could never keep up in class. The only reason I got above a C is because I went to almost every SI session. If not for SI, I likely would've failed. Her exams aren't really difficult, but she does ask super specific questions, so you need to be WAY more prepared than you think. I never went to office hours. I would just go to SI, study in groups, study at least a week in advance, memorize all phylogenetic trees, and go over the powerpoints in great detail. I probably could've made an A if I had prepared more than one day in advance, but I am a procrastinator so oh well. Don't be me. Work hard, put in effort, you can make an A. The grade you make will be because of YOUR effort, not how she teaches. She does not teach very well, but she is a lovely human. Be prepared to spend a lot of time prepping for exams, you'll be fine.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Virology - Luna's class is not difficult - if your'e looking for a moderately low effort, upper level bio class this is not a bad option at all. She has 3 exams and an inclass discussion every week. However, for her exams - you will never learn anything in class, every grade I got on her exams were from watching youtube videos. The author of the textbook posts videos online which are VERY helpful so if you can work with those, you are set. She is the most confusing lecturer in the world, she will call on you in class so be prepared for that. she rarely makes sense and the topics that she emphasizes in class never show up on the exams - i dont think she writes the exams, it seems like she just pulls them from somewhere. The youtube videos have practice questions that are identical to her test questions at times so those come in clutch. She has office hours almsot everyday but have the time she closes her door early so. thats that. Don't rely on extra credit - only 2 points on the final which won't do much. If you have questions during an exam, she won't help you, she's quite rude and dismissive. If you have a personal emergency she won't care, she'll just ask for a death certificate if someone died. no big deal right. She plays favorites like no body's business - so if she likes you then by all means take this class. But don't get on her bad side because she is not kind at all - zero tolerance policy for anything. Her grade is made up only of the 3 exams and the discussions. The discussions can be rough - each week a group of 3-5 students presents an insanely tough research paper and she grills them with questions and then for some reason the entire class needs to know the paper as well cause she calls on everyone at some point to answer questions. She grades based on a discussion guide you submit as well as your participation in the discussion - doesn't grade too hard. Her exams are about 20-25 questions. Some mcq, some short answer and longer answers. The time can get pretty tight since its only a 50 min class period so that can be tough but exams are not impossible. she is just rude and does not tolerate anything.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2306 - Dr. Luna is not a good professor at all. If I could go back I would not take her again or recommend her to anyone. She is very unhelpful to everyone but the people that suck up and are her favorites. She will literally ignore you if you're not one of them. The only grades in her class are exams so you have to do really good on them all. The exams are extremely difficult and some questions you would only know if you memorized the entire textbook so be prepared to read a lot. she is a nice person just not a good teacher. Her lectures are pointless as well but you have to go she takes attendence which is off of the clicker quizzes not the paper she makes you sign in class so actually do the quizzes.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1305/1306 - I loved Dr. Luna! She is extremely intelligent and kind-hearted. She is fair and always willing to help. Her tests are straightforward and as long as you study, you will do great. She has no assignments, so the tests are your only grade. It may be difficult for some, but she will either curve the test, drops an exam, or give extra credit. I and many others have done great, so it is very possible to succeed. I plan to take her for genetics as well just because she is that great! Definitely take her!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIO 1305 - Dr. Luna is the BEST professor I have had at Baylor. She is so kind and really great at teaching. She often asks students to interact which makes the big classroom more engaging. I would take her for every single bio at Baylor if I could. Her accent is not hard to understand at all with the exception to a single word, 'yellow.'  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1305 - Professor Luna is a great person. horrible professor. You can barely understand half of the things she says because of her thick accent. She talks so fast and you can't catch anything. Her exams are extremely hard. the quizzes add 2 points and its so many of them. You have to self teach yourself and study every second of the day if you want to pass. I went to her office hours, didnt even answer my questions. HER LA'S & TA'S ARE AMAZING. they were the reason i understood this class before dropping  - Grade In Class:DROP
