Comments:BIO 1305 & 1306 - To clarify on the grade, the A+ is for semester one, whereas I got a B+ in semester two (because I got lazy, oopsie, not the fault of Dr. Paine at ALL)! Anyway! Dr Paine is such a great professor, I genuinely cannot imagine a more perfect course because 1) She genuinely cares about WHAT she's teaching you, 2) Her slides are very straightforward/in-depth, and 3) She practically HANDS YOU an A ON A SILVER PLATTER IF YOU ARE WILLING TO ACCEPT IT! I just love a passionate teacher, and that's exactly what Dr. Paine is, I was engaged all the time in her class, and she teaches you in a way so that you actually understand and KNOW the material instead of just memorizing and moving on after the tests. In class, we had a set designed group for the semester (this was very helpful imo!) and she went through her slideshows with us and then at a certain point would break us off into our groups to work through a worksheet asking us questions about our homework the night before or what we just discussed to really get us into it. We would go over case studies and do activities that would require us to move around the room a handful of times— Some people may have found it silly, but those times really did help integrate the material more! The packets and such were just completion grades and were completed for your own benefit. She also understood some things needed visual learning so she drew diagrams with us a bunch of times too. Also, before each exam she releases a student generated practice exam filled with questions we submit from our groups. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH— ABSOLUTELY DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS!!! 1/3 OF THE TEST IS PULLED FROM THOSE QUESTIONS, SO THAT'S 1/3 OF YOUR GRADE ALREADY HANDED TO YOU!!!! I (She also pulled questions from our worksheets we completed!!!) never actually attended one of her office hours myself, since she was always available after class to chat, but I've heard they're helpful. She also created a discord server for all of her students so if you have a question or problem you need help with outside of hours, you can ask her and receive a fast response without actually having to GO in, so that was neat! The tests were very, VERY straightforward. If you study/reviewed the slides/did the practice exams, you'll almost always finish the test before time is up. There was a free response section at the beginning, but those were mostly like matching or fill in the blank— I think once we had a math problem, but only once. After that you head into the MC part of the exams and these ranged from like 50-70~ questions depending on the chapter, but like I said you'll be able to fly through those if you know your material. There's a codon which I didn't really like because I would always forget to read it before class, but they're super easy to complete and she does have a grace period if you forget your reading or to turn in your homework. The codon felt like busy work but I prefer it LOADS more than having to read through the 70-page chapters of Pearson she switched from ߹𖥦߹ Also it's cheaper so yippie ^0^ Overall she's just a great professor she's so silly and really cares about the content she's teaching you and has so many fun facts about Biology, I wish I could've gotten her again for Genetics :( - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Bio 1305 - Dr. Paine was overall a great professor! She gave us so many resources to ensure we did well on the tests. I will say her lecturing style was pretty scrambled, and it constantly felt like she was running out of time. She assigned homework on codon before every class which was essentially useless and just busy work. She holds regular office hours and is easily accessible by email. Take her! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1306 - TAKE HER!!! I can not glaze her enough!!!!! Dr.Paine is always available and willing to help you. She also provides a lot of fun resources and games in class, which is something I really miss in these college classes. For me, I just studied her slides two days before the test + SI worksheets and did great. Mind you, I got a B+ first semester with a different professor in 1305, and I hated BIO because of that. However, Dr. Paine makes her lectures really interesting, and she shares a lot of fun facts. So take her!!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - Coming from someone who absolutely bombed AP Bio, Dr. Paine completely restored my faith in biology. You do not need to read the book at all; all the information is found in the organized slides. She loves to do active learning, and oftentimes makes you work within your group on group worksheets and quizzes, which were incredibly useful for exams. Exams themselves were extremely straight-forward, and Dr. Paine even gives you a multitude of resources to ensure you succeed on every single exam. As a professor, Dr. Paine keeps you engaged in the lesson and even makes biology fun. She is available most of the time, and if she isn't, she will give you plenty of resources to contact her for any questions you might have. All-in-all, Dr, Paine is a lovely professor and I cannot recommend her enough for Bio 1. As long as you put in the work and care, I have no doubt you will succeed in this class. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1306 - TAKE HER!!! It will be one of the easiest classes you take. Paine is a wonderful person and such a wonderful professor. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - I think Professor Paine was a really kind and engaging professor. I do feel as though her teaching style was a tad bit too scrambled and abstract for me. She gave us "codon" work for every class and test and it honestly felt like busy work every time. I do have to admit she was very helpful whenever I went to office house and I believe that if I had a stronger foundation in biology before ths class I would have done alot better. - Grade In Class:C+
Comments:BIO 1305 - TAKE HER! She is the best and so helpful. I made an account just to tell others to take her! If I would recommend any professor for bio, its her! - Grade In Class:B
Comments:1306 - I loved that Dr. Paine tried her best to make sure we knew what resources we could use. She would include worksheets correlated with each lesson that would include links to videos on difficult topics. These worksheets were also part of the open-ended parts of the exams and were a great way to review. She was very straight-forward about what was on her exams, and her quizzes, which were weekly, were just review of the lecture in class. We had one homework assignment and one quiz for every chapter, and each exam had about 1-5 chapters on it, but the PowerPoints were very manageable to study. Tests were based on worksheets in class, quiz questions, and were a mix of free-response and multiple choice. Overall, she is a great teacher, responds super quick to emails, and is accommodating and understanding with her students. She's very open to conversation and getting to know her students. I recommend taking this course especially for your first biology as it eases you into the difficulty of college courses. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1306 - I LOVE DR. PAINE!! She is genuinely so cool and easy to talk to. She's not someone who lectures at a monotone voice the whole time, she engages with the class and does a lot of fun activities that help with the content. The course itself wasn't my favorite, but she is definitely the best professor for it. Also, her tests do have an open-ended portion but as long as you study you will be fine! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - She is a wonderful professor who clearly is passionate about what she teaches. Her slides are comprehensive and clear and offers plenty of different activities to get a good grasp on the subject. She would use HW questions on Pearson and had group packets with practice questions. One of the assignments is make test questions and she will then have the student-made questions be a 1/3 of the test. If you do the study guide she puts together with these questions, you will have already seen a third of the test. The tests themselves would be difficult, but she goes through all the concepts in class with and will often draw things out as well. She is extremely easy to reach and loves when students are interactive and have questions. Overall, she is a wonderful professor and I hope to have her again! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:BIO 1301 - She is really good at breaking things down so they are easy to understand and her slides are all you need to know the information. the assignments are easy, and the exams aren't bad. the big issue is her grading. I had to go into her office several times to correct the grades I got on exams. I corrected multiple questions and she claimed she "fixed" them on everyone else's, but some were not fixed. I studied on an exam for 8 days because my exam grades were oddly low and when the grade for it came out I got a low B. Out of confusion I went to her office to look and ended up catching several questions wrong. my grade on the exam was moved up to a high A. Only take her class if you have time to be in office hours after every exam checking after her work. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:bio 1306 - TAKE HER CLASS. She genuinely cares so much about her students and how they're doing in the course. She tries to make her class entertaining and has days where you get to move around and do assignments in a group. She's very passionate about what she teaches and it shows. The class is a good amount of work, but if you study and work hard you should be able to get a decent grade. She drops an exam grade and your lowest quiz and homework grades and is fairly understanding in giving you credit if you can argue your reasoning. This might change in the future, but our exams where made up of 1/3 questions the students write (she gives you these to study as well), 1/3 from Pearson, and 1/3 she writes herself. Dr. Paine gives students as many resources as she can and clearly wants kids to excel in her class. I'm crushed that she only teaches bio, I would love to take her again. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - Dr. Paine is most definitely one of the BEST professors at Baylor! You can tell she genuinely cares about her students and wants us to succeed. I already took AP Bio in high school so I was already somewhat familiar with the textbook. However, I did have some gaps in my knowledge that were quickly filled by Dr. Paine's powerpoints, handouts, etc. The only homework we were assigned was Pearson assignments. About 1 or 2 are due weekly on Sunday nights. There's also a bit of group work in her class, but nothing I would change overall. Pls take her she's the best!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - BIO 1: Such a sweet and energetic professor! Took her first semester and it felt pretty seamless from highschool classes. She does assign a lot of group work, BUT I feel that it's actually pretty helpful and collaborative in a way that we learn from each other. Apparently she studies how students best learn so it makes sense why she's good. I will say it's definitely a different way of learning than other classes, but I'm not complaining. She truly wants you to succeed and makes it clear what expectations are for assignments. Looking forward to taking her next semester! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1306 - Genuinely one of the best professors I've had at Baylor. She makes tests easy and gives so many resources for you to do well on them. She assigns a group quiz for you to make before a test and then uses questions directly from them on the exam. She also uses questions straight from homework on quizzes and tests which is super helpful. Her lectures are to the point and she's super passionate about the material which is helpful to learning. If you can take her, I would 100% recommend taking her class because she gives you every tool to succeed and she's also just a cool person in general. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:1305 - She's a solid teacher and is very energetic about the material she teaches. The exams are kinda hard, but she gives plenty of material to study for them. There is only one real homework assignment per week, but they can be pretty long. She's also a bodybuilder so that kinda neat. - Grade In Class:A
