Comments:2416 - Dr. Mansell is super nice. His class is the most disorganized class I have ever taken at Baylor. Like to a crazy level. In his syllabus he didn't even post exam dates so you truly had no idea what you were walking in to. Honestly, no class will truly prepare you for this one. I found nothing from other classes helpful/beneficial while taking this class. He let us have a take-home exam and also have cheat sheets on the other exams which was awesome. Basically if you practice the powerpoint questions you know the exam questions which is great. I just put all the powerpoint questions on my cheat sheets and he never changed the numbers and I got close to a 100 on the exams so truly just put the powerpoint questions on your cheat sheet and you're set. Definitely show your work though. The lectures were a huge waste of time and I truly wish I did skip all of them cause he doesn't take attendance, however I knew people in the class that did this and they forgot to show up for exam days cause he didn't post them in canvas so I don't really recommend skipping unless you have a friend in the class that will tell you when the exams are. Labs don't take 4 hours and my TA was awesome so it was super chill. The post-lab work takes super long and learning all the excel stuff was rough. He also didn't grade stuff until the very end of the semester so I truly walked into finals having no idea what I was going to get in this class. His assignments took an extremely long amount of time and I wouldn't normally worry about this class but to get a 94 you do have to put in a little bit more work to get that A. Overall super nice professor and you have to take the class, but I would definitely not take it again. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2406 - It was a class. I can tell that Dr. Mansell is working on being a better teacher, but the class feels like it is sort of messy in its layout. While the labs themselves are some of the most fun you will have at Baylor (If it's like how mine was),the class itself was brutal. The best way I can describe it is that you are being told to do assignments on information you were never taught, without a rubric. Grading also takes forever, but he does grade very fair. The exams are fine, they're about 4% of your grade each, the final is 8%. The kicker to this class is that a 94 is an A. If it was a 90, I would. not have worried near as much, but the 94 makes it so that you cannot let off in that class for a day. If you're a chem major, good luck. Everyone has to go through it. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:Chemistry - Dr. Mansell was a fair professor; his workload wasn't too bad for a chemistry course, but it was still a lot. He is a new professor, but he is getting better at picking up on how to teach. his exams arent too bad if you study for them and have a strong understanding of chem 2. other than that hes a decent professor and is extremely nice to talk to in office hours. - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2416 - Dr. Mansell is an extremely sweet. THIS CLASS IS NOT EASY BY ANY MEANS he will make you work for an A. An A is also a 94 which sucks for a STEM class, but if you do your work you will most definitely get at least an A-. He lets us have cheat sheets on the harder exams or just take it home. If you ask, he will always let you come talk to him in his office and even let me go talk to him for 45 minutes about football and research. He is very kind and willing to help you out, and though this class has relatively difficult in terms of content, it gets fun and he lets us out early pretty often. He is a real sweetheart and has a very high grade distribution. For a 4 credit course, this is not that bad + the labs don't ever take the full 4 hours so do not worry about the huge amount of time blocked in your schedule, most take about an hour. If you can, take a lab time later in the week because he is relatively gracious to the later labs since he just wants to leave. Don't worry about this class, just do the work!!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:2416 - Honestly, this class is just strange. i think he's still a new prof so he's figuring things out. he's so incredibly nice to talk to, but he needs more guidance. this class was a pain and i dont think i actually learned much other than excel - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 2416 - He is a terrible teacher! He does not know how to teach and what to teach, I just figured it out that every lecture is actually a lecture for the book! I always think it’s just an instruction for the lab, no! And he is gonna test on them! It’s basically you learning the textbook by yourself! He always lets you get out very early, because he does not teach anything! And there are totally 4 exams counting the final, though it’s like the person below me said, yes it’s only 20 percent of your grade, but if you get anything below 94 it will be an A-! Which is insane for this course! Because it’s hard!! He might be helpful during his office hour or something like that, but he only has 2 days with office hours! And the things he tells you might not be correct! I have multiple assignments which he said are perfect, but he still takes off points later!! And he also grades things veryyyy slow. It takes him one month to grade one lab report! Which is crazy! Anyway, terrible professor! But he is the only choice for this course, good luck future guys!!! - Grade In Class:A
Comments:CHE 2416 - This course has taken an interesting turn from when it used to be taught. It appears that the chemistry department, after increasing the credit hours, had Dr. Mansell incorporate more exams and assignments into the overall grade. While Dr. Mansell is a good overall teacher and is willing to help with all assignments and lab reports, the big lab report at the end is not my favorite. This course is structured in an unusual way, with lab reports accounting for 40% of the grade (approximately one figure assignment every two weeks), 20 of the grade coming from exams, and the remaining 40%. I found this course to be somewhat frustrating, which had nothing to do with Dr. Mansell himself, but more with the course content, as I'm not sure why this course is taught. If you are a chemistry or biochemistry major, you will have to take it, and since there is usually only 1 section per semester, you're going to be making your schedule around this course. Overall, such a bizarre course; this is kind of all over the place, but Dr. Mansell is kind and is always willing to help. The exams aren't too difficult either if you put in work to understand how to use the equations (which can be confusing at first) - Grade In Class:B
Comments:2416 - He is super kind and easy to relate with, but he cannot teach. The exams are online, but that does not matter because they are so difficult and take so long to complete. The concepts are not hard, but he does not explain what he is asking for, which makes the assignments difficult to complete. For example, he does not mention how to format lab reports or what to include in the reports. He then waits a month or two before grading (many lab reports have been submitted in the mean time) and then takes off a lot of points for formatting, which he never mentioned during class. He also does not know what he is talking about during lectures and lets us leave 45 minutes early each time, which is nice, but also I never learned anything. - Grade In Class:A
