Comments:BUS 4385 - Strategic Management - Pretty lame class. Brett is definitely interesting with regard to his experience and his stories. He worked under Drayton McLane forever and last worked at Magnolia so he shares some neat insights there. However, it just doesn’t really translate to his teaching ability. The lectures are very low effort and honestly seem to be slides made straight from AI. The unfortunate part is every time there’s elements of participation where he asks about companies and strategies, students just type the questions in and spit out what AI tells them. It’s like the initial stages of a dystopian classroom experiment where everyone is a robot. He undoubtedly would benefit from a no-tech policy to keep everyone off their computers while he speaks.
As for the structure, this class also has the worst form of busywork maybe in educational history, with those dreaded McGraw Hill Smartbook assignments that have 30+ topics for every chapter due at least 1x a week. It is also group-based where you work with your row of 3-4 people to compete in this Business Strategy Game. You run a fake shoe company for 10 weeks and have a set of operational decisions by then end of every week to build a successful company and get higher numbers than your classmates. It is so overwhelming at first because there’s 10 different sections/tabs to customize, but once you learn how they all work with each other (watch Youtube videos to do this) it becomes something you can do in 10-15 minutes every week to set it and forget it. 
There are also 2 exams that thankfully aren’t worth a ton, but are awful since they are take home, but are Lockdown Browser + webcam and just consist of 50ish MC questions based off the slides and Connect material. The worst part is you can know your stuff and use common sense and still not do great because it’s not a handwritten test and there are 5 answer choices all written way too similarly.
 Overall, he’s a nice guy but is not meant to be a teacher and needs to just step away and enjoy retirement.   - Grade In Class:A
