Comments:Cell Phys - WORST PROFESSOR AT BAYLOR. And I say this having seen my fair share of bad professors. This man is on an ego trip like no other, and he will go out of his way to make you feel inadequate. He has no respect for his students, save for the few he remembers from freshman Bio. He covers about 20 pages of notes per day, and gives a quiz over specifics from those notes the next class period. However, don't think that the quizzes will have much to do with what is tested in the exams, because it won't. Eldridge needs to retire, as he did 20 years ago. The third test covers multiple pathways and their energy outputs and tracing carbons: Be ready for outlandish problems that do not get partial credit for having the numbers right on all but one pathway, because without double checking your work (and only having time to do half of the problems) you probably will slip up and get these wrong anyway. The final is manageable, but again, half of the final covers pathways and the breakdown of fatty acids, which will be covered by two pages of notes and about 5 minutes of lecture. I'm telling you now, there's no way to avoid this teacher if you're in a BS program, so you just have to devote your time to this class alone if you want to make a good grade. However, if you are unable to take only four hours for the semester, plan B is to go to another college, get your masters/doctorate in Biology, and THEN finish your matriculation at Baylor with this class; either you'll know the material well enough to succeed, or Dr. E will have retired. - Grade In Class:D |

Comments:4307 - Dr. Eldridge isn't the best professor. He's nearing retirement and doesn't seem to care much anymore. He presents too much information every class period and then quizzes you over only a small fraction of it. There are quizzes EVERY day, and they have a huge impact on your grade at the end, so do well on them. If you can get your hand on quizzes from past semesters, study them like no other. Many times he just copies and pastes. He drops 4-6 of the quizzes at the end of the semester, depending on how many people purchase his pooh tshirts. His exams aren't impossible, but they do require a lot of preparation. Exam 3 is a killer because of all the metabolism problems, but if you practice those problems day in and day out, you will do well. Once you get a grip on the metabolism problems, don't let them slip out of your mind. He brings them up repeatedly on the last few quizzes and the final. Although his class is very difficult, he assigns grades leniently. An 87 or higher will most likely get you an A, so it is very possible. - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:BIO 1305 - Dr. Eldridge is a great professor. He may come across as rude or crass, but he only seems that way to the people who are clueless in the class. He's very enjoyable and makes himself available to students. He has lunch once a week with students in a dorm cafeteria, allowing you to get to know him (and he to know you) outside of the classroom. In terms of teaching, he tells you exactly what you need to know for your exams (including a list of concepts for each test), leaving no questions about what will be covered. Studying for daily quizzes can be a bit of a pain, but if you do well on most of them they will ultimately help your grade. Yes, you must do a lot of studying to do well on his exams, but that should be true of any college course, and his exams are very fair. Frankly, if you can't do well in this class then you simply didn't work hard enough. I found him very enjoyable, and he occassionally tells stories and jokes. He even brought his cat to class once! If he taught 1306, I would definitely be taking him in the spring. - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:BIO 4307 - Dr. Eldridge is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's tough, but he's very nice outside of class if you make an HONEST effort in the class...in other words, don't be annoying. I feel that he was always clear in his lectures, and there is nothing he teaches you that you DON'T need to know, and he won't waste your time with unnecessary material. Everything he teaches is on the exam, pretty straight-forward. There is no textbook, just a notes package. He doesn't follow them in order, so what I did was to take out the pages he covered every class, and put them in a separate divider in my binder, organized by date, and build my notes that way (I used diff. colored labels for the dates within each exam unit...use your creativity!). There is no homework except all the studying you have to do for the daily quizzes...he never misses a day, so don't think he will forget to give you one sometimes. This is college, get used to it. You have to study hard and constantly, but it's worth it. The material isn't hard or impossible, it's just voluminous and requires time and memorization to understand. Study and you will do fine. - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:BIO-1305 - Dr. Eldridge is an amazing professor. He is so smart and he knows it. His class is very hard. It is a weed out class, no matter what he tells you. If you get him, make sure that you buy the supplemental packet and work out ALL of the problems in the back for the chapter that you talked about in class. He has daily quizzes which make up two test grades at the end of the semester. His quizzes are easy if you do the supplemental packet because most of his quizzes have the questions that you worked on in the supplemental packet word for word. If you make atleast 8's in all of his quizzes, you will definately pass. The amount of quizzes he drops depends on how bad the class did on them. So do not take a chance because he might only drop 3, you never know. Get to know him at a personal level. Go to see him at his office so you can go over your test. Go to lunch with him if you can. Sit in the front of the class if you can because not only will he interact with you, but you will also learn when you are closer to him, especially in that enormous classroom. Ask questions, he is very accesible. Make sure your phone is off, he HATES phones ringing in class. His tests are incredibly hard to pass, so study several weeks in advance, seriously they are that hard! He is one of the pre-med interviewers and he knows what he is talking about. If you want to go to med school and do well on the MCAT, take Dr. Eldridge's bio class, because if you really study for his class, you will remember everything he teaches. All BIO courses at Baylor are difficult, it is one of Baylor's specialties. I reccomend his class even though I struggled a little. - Grade In Class:C |

Comments:1305 - During his lectures, he usually puts pictures from the book, an old book, or his supplemental packet and explains the material. If you are a visual learner, you will be very successful, if not, be prepared to do a lot of reading. He covers a lot of material in a short period of time and you must understand the information perfectly to get an A on the tests. He gives you quizzes every day to, in theory, help you learn the material a little at a time so it isn't so overwhelming come test time. This works well for the first couple of weeks, but after a while, they become very tiresome. There is an SI every week that will help prepare you for each quiz and I strongly recommend going. If you go to SI and prepare for the class daily, you should be able to pull off an A. - Grade In Class:B |
