Comments:1401 - Professor Dworkin was one of my favorite Geology professors, overall I really did enjoy his course, it first it sounds very boring and something many people seems not to have interest since most of the stuff are earthquakes, rocks, tsunamis, and lots of other stuff around our planet. But Professor Dworkin was extremely knowledgably of the entire course. It seems rough at first as I had him 3 times a week but he made each day very quick we were out within 45 minutes. He has 4 exams and are in person and 60 questions long but there are very easy as long as you did notes and study on his lectures. he also does quizzes once a week but to be honest, he did quizzes only like 5 times throughout the entire semester. One big thing i liked was NO HOMEWORK, only thing we had to do was read the wet dessert novel but i bought the audiobook to make it go quick ( there is an mini-exam dedicated to this book so it is required ). The lab that corresponds with the course is also extremely easy, I had a TA and she would check and make sure we did everything correctly before we turn in it, I got a A+ in lab, (25% of Lab goes towards your actual class grade ). Overall He is a very kind person who loves to engage with his students. P.S if you have him during the Spring Semester - he gives up extra break time when spring break comes around the corner!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - Loved this class, it was brutal doing it 3 times a week but it was a great class. He kept it fun especially with how he talked about the topics it wasn’t just a lecture he talked about the subject and expanded well. It is pop quizzes and test only this class is very much if you are willing to look over notes and study a little a week you will do just fine love him and gave me a great class for the science credit I needed.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:GEO 3427 - I actually love this man. A B+ is my grade in the class currently, but he gives us a project at the end of the year that is so much fun and is apparently a "grade booster." I would 100% take this class again. He is so genuinely passionate about geology and he teaches minerology very well. He sometimes gets off topic when he talks, but the few rants he goes on are all geology related and really help to show how geology is impactful in real life. There are barley any quizzes, and the tests (most likely 4 a semester including the final) are all free response, but you need to spend a good few hours studying for them as there is a lot of content. However, he grades very generously and looks at your writing thoroughly to give you as many points as possible. He is the one that solidified my decision in adding a geology minor. Please take this class if you want a friendly environment with an encouraging teacher.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:GEO 1401 - Had heard great things about this professor, was very disappointed with the actual class. He is a great guy, who tries to make things fun for the class, but the class was very difficult for me and when I tried to get help, my emails were not responded to. There's lots of pop quizzes so attendance is very important, and your only other grades are exams, so if you are not a good test taker, do NOT take this class!!  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:1401 - This class is definitely a must for those just trying to fulfill their lab science credit. The exams are also not as hard as averages made it out to be; the questions were very straight forward, and covered during lectures as long as you paid attention (because some students during class did anything but that). I was on track to earning an A in the class, but neglected the final exam and earned a low C lol. Labs were light work, depending on who you had, and were generally over in 1-1.5 hours max.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:GEO 46C3 - Dworkin is a great lecturer who cares about his students, and more importantly, their grades. However, he stole my m&ms...  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - While Professor Dowrkin is a very nice and straightforward professor, his class is definitely not the blow-off "rocks for jocks" that is often used to identify the class. His tests are online with a lockdown browser. I averaged around a C for all my exams. The questions on the exams are typically straightforward. However, it's difficult to study for his exams because he has a lot of course material and his reviews are useless for studying. He does give extra credit and the lab grade is a big help in the overall average of the course.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2023-05-15

Comments:GEO 1401 - DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT AN EASY A. Dr. Dworkin as a professor is really good and is willing to work with you but the class itself is not easy. At the beginning of the year, he said his average grade in the class is a C and he was not kidding. I would study these test reviews so much and still get C's on the test and my only saving grace for my grade was the lab. Overall, this class is very interesting, but do not take it with the impression that it is an easy class  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2023-05-06

Comments:GEO 1401 - Professor Dworkin is amazing! He is a funny professor and knows how to teach. He never took up the full class time. It isn't a blow off class but he provides reviews and access to all of the powerpoints to help study. It's a really interesting class and the LAB required with the class is extremely easy depending on who your TA is.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2022-05-11

Comments:Natural Disasters - If you needing a lab science take his class. Dr. Dworkin is a really fun guy, and he makes all of his PowerPoints easily accessible. He doesn't waste your time, and I feel I genuinely learned a lot in his class. He also counts a 90 and above an A+ and you can tell he wants everyone to do well. The labs are also super easy and never took up the full time.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1410 - LOVE DWORKIN! I have no idea why his rating is low! This definitely is not a blow off class, but Dworkin seriously is my favorite professor. He is so funny, and cracks jokes all the time in our 150 person classroom where no one talks and it is silent. He randomly inserts pics of his dogs and doesn't say anything about them and its great. No attendance, don't need to be there all the time, but I was which was helpful for tests. Few random quizzes that were open note. 4 total tests including the final that were not too hard, I ended up getting B's on every single one. Also does extra credit where he boosts your grade 1% which was so nice of him (we had to write a paper on COVID-19). That was all of the work that we had to do. Such a nice professor who responded to my emails quickly and was just super personable.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-12-07

Comments:GEO 1401 - I took Dworkin during COVID and do not know why he has such a low rating. He is incredibly approachable, funny, and gives engaging lectures. Your only job in this class really is to copy down his powerpoints from the screen and laugh when he talks about TikToks or his dogs. He gives out study guides and emphasizes what he wants you to know for the test. He actually made a seemingly boring class pretty interesting and I would definitely take him again if I could.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-11-28

Comments:1401 - This class is not a blow-off course but that doesn't mean it was a bad course. Dworkin was easily one of my favorite professors. He was funny and had very interesting lectures. He never really gave out homework but his exams were a little tough. If you study for the exams and know everything on the study guides, you will be fine. The lab was interesting and cool and was not strenuous at all. I would take him again if I could.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1401 - DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AND EASY BLOW OFF!!!! I worked my butt of the entire semester. I struggled with the tests and I really tried and put time in try to learn the material! The average on every single test never got out of the C range. Overall, not my favorite lab course  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2019-05-11

Comments:Geo 1401 - Pretty boring lectures. I'm bad at memorization, so I struggled with the tests even when I took good notes and studied a lot. Study the quizzes from class for the final! It wasn't a blow off class for me at all like other people might say.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2017-12-14

Comments:1401 - While some of his reviews might make it seem like his class is easy.... EARTHQUAKES AND NATURAL DISASTERS IS NOT A BLOW OFF COURSE!!! The course consists of four exams, random quizzes, and your lab. His exams were impossible for me and I did put effort into studying his powerpoints as per previous reviews.... Many people got low grades but honestly, he doesn't care and his curves are pointless. I did better on his exams during the semester but still it wasn't good enough. Quizzes are random although he does sort of give hints, don't always count on it. The labs are boring and are completely pointless. It is a waste of your time and they literally teach you nothing. I had a cool TA but he was kind of a dick when it came to grading. And yes, the quizzes for the labs are all fill in the blank. Honestly, the labs should be a separate 1hr course grade instead of a 25% category for Dr. Dworkin's class. I showed up to 95% of his classes and although he doesn't take attendance, you will fail if you choose to skip a lot. There was only one extra credit opportunity which I did and it was cool but 1% of a grade boost isn't much. I will say, Dr. Dworkin is very enthusiastic in what he does and his lectures but it was not my favorite lab course.  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2017-05-31

Comments:GEO 1401 - His tests and quizzes were really easy. The class was really large and you could probably count the number of times on two hands I showed up the whole semester. Definitely had a passion for Geology though he wasn't the greatest lecturer and I wish he would've dropped the lowest test like most other professors in the science departments that I've dealt with.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2014-08-27

Comments:GEO1401 - as a science class, it is easy~ however, you do need to put some effort in it in order to get a good grade~ I like his tests! they're directly from the ppt, even though there are like 200 people in his class, there are barely only like 20 people absent every time~ his class is interesting! and he is a really really really nice teacher!! take him if you can especially if you are interested in earthquake and natural disasters!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2014-05-29

Comments:GEO 1401 - The exams are straight, word for word from the power points. If you know how to read, then you will do well in Dr. Dworkin's class. The labs are SUPER easy, and for the 5 question quiz, just show up 10 minutes early to memorize the vocabulary. Those who say this class is not as easy as it seems are just lazy. With an decent effort, this course guarantees a B. The material is quite interesting, and it requires students to just read from power points and spit it back out on exams. Dr. Dworkin as a professor is great, but he himself is not a major part of the class, just copy the power points and memorize it all a few days before the exam.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2014-05-14

Comments:1401 - This class honestly wasn't that hard, but the labs were horrible. We have to take a quiz every lab and it wall all fill in the blank without a word bank, from an 8-20 page lab report. I did study for the class, but I made terrible grades. I would always set up an appointment, but he would never show up. When I emailed him about looking at them for the final to see what I got wrong, he never emailed me back. He gives pop-quizzes which aren't bad, but you have to look at your notes during the lecture to make a decent grade on them. I liked the class and actually learned somethings in it, but I am the type of person who likes to see what I missed and I couldn't do that with any of my test. Although this is suppose to be rocks for jocks it is far from it.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2014-05-10

Comments:Earthquakes - The people who take time to ever write comments on these are the people who never came to class and when they did they didn't pay attention so that's why they fail. I am a senior currently taking this class and an international studies major far from the BSB. The class is very easy and straight forward. The power points are his test, but you do need to study...welcome to college. There are a total of five "pop" quizzes, but he always says the class before "I foresee a quiz coming." Quizzes are also always the last 15 min of class so even if you don't show up you can make it to class before if you have friends in the class. There is no reason anyone can't make and A or B. He takes no attendance besides quiz days, make a friend in the class or take it with a friend so that you can always know when there we be a quiz and alternate days you come.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2014-04-24

Comments:Earthquakes - Even though everyone says this is an easy class, it is not as easy as it seems. You think you do well on the tests, and then when you get back the grade they aren't what you expected. The tests come right from the power points, but you have to know every single word on all the power points. He gives pop quizzes but will give a hint as to when they are coming. He doesn't take attendance, but you need to go to class so that you don't miss a quiz. He is a really funny guy, and brought me a lot of entertainment, but unfortunately the tests were harder then he made them seem.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Earthquakes - Terrible workload... Do not do it  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2013-12-20

Comments:GEO1401 - THIS CLASS IS AWFUL!!! The subject matter is so dumb it is difficult. The test are NOT easy and require more than just studying you have to learn this (pointless crap). Dorkin, or whatever his name is, is a terrible instructor who takes this course waaaaay too serious. ON top of all that he READS FROM THE POWER POINTS!! HE TEACHES NOTHING!! Its GEOLOGY come on now. Another thing about this class is there is no attendance policy. NO attendance policy + boring material = hard to attend class and take 1 of the 4 pop quizzes. I am in honors and have a 3.7 this is the worst class ever!!  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2013-12-14

Comments:GEO 1401 - Tests are multichoice and straight from his powerpoints. I barely read the book except for at the beginning of the semester. Take him; easy A  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2013-06-07

Comments:GEO 1401 - AMAZING TEACHER! Best class I have taken at Baylor! His lectures are extremely entertaining and he is pretty funny. His tests are NOT impossible. Study a couple of hours and you will be fine. The tests are DIRECTLY from the powerpoint slides. Gives random quizzes at the end of class every once in a while to check attendance.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2011-12-26

Comments:Geology - Dworkin is a really nice teacher and really corky sometimes which makes class funny. He's really understanding and teaches class pretty well considering he has to make rocks interesting to people who don't want to become geologists. This class wasn't super easy for me but science has never been my thing. If you go to class though and pay attention to the lectures he gives then you should do pretty well. He doesn't take attendance but he will start giving pop quizes when he notices half the class missing and you will get a 0% if you weren't there. All around though Dworkin is a great teacher.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2011-12-08

Comments:Earthquakes and Natural d - Seriously, easiest lab science ever. His tests are word for word from the powerpoint...and he posts his powerpoints. super easy. no homework. and the labs are a joke. We played with sand and water. If you don't make an A (and i rarely go to class) you should just drop out.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2011-11-16

Comments:1401 - This class was pretty exciting and Dr. Dworkin helped with that. His lectures, shockingly, I stayed awake in and rarely fell asleep, maybe once or twice. He's hilarious, and says really funny things during his lectures that are somewhat dorky but nonetheless funny. He's a passionate teacher who knows what he's talking about. You rarely had any homework except for some reading material. I didn't buy the book and did fine in the class because the test questions are mostly over the lectures. The test was all multiple choice and fairly easy as long as you studied the lectures. The only thing is he gives pop quizzes from time to time so I would try not to miss a class. He also doesn't take role which tempts you in not coming to class, I would just make sure, be completely sure, that there isn't a quiz in the day you're missing. Overall, he's an awesome teacher that actually almost made me want to switch to a Geology major. Not a blow off class as people think of it to be. He means business but still, the class is enjoyable. Take him!  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2011-07-03

Comments:1401 - Don't be fooled by the "rocks for jocks" reputation, my friends. His tests are legit difficult & require studying. I made the mistake of only skimming my notes for about an hour & made a C on the first test. Dworkin himself is great! He's super enthusiastic & loves rocks! Has amusing, corny jokes & random slides throughout his PPs. He gives an extra credit "field trip" tour around campus worth a percentage point on the final. Do it, only takes about 30 minutes. Lab SUCCCKS most of the time, but you do what you gotta do. Try to get Alex for Lab if you can.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2011-05-11

Comments:1401 - I loved him!! He was super funny (in a nerdy way) and he really enjoys the subject he teaches on. It is an easy class and the lab is easy as well. Its an easy A if you just pay attention and take notes. I recommend this class/prof.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2011-04-15

Comments:GEO 1401 - Ignore the people who say this class is hard - it's the easiest lab science at Baylor!! No reading (DO NOT BUY THE BOOK) because all the information you are tested on comes from the lecture. As long as you take notes in class and study them, this is an easy A. He curved two of our tests. Overall, you have 3 tests, a final, and 5 quizzes. Great prof as well. Take him!   - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2010-04-26

Comments:1401 - You would think that this would be a super easy class, but it's not. My advice is to not miss class and to pay attention. Most of the grade comes from the tests.   - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2010-04-18

Comments:earthquakes - he is nice and funny but don't take this class thinking it is a blow off. while it is relatively easy you have to work for your grade just the same as any other class. prof dworkin is goofy! he wears terrible outfits and tells random stories in class. he doesn't take attendance but each class covers about 10 questions on the test so you need to go to class. overall he is an okay teacher. he is interested in the material, which is nice, but i don't really thinks he cares if anyone learns it.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2009-06-10

Comments:1401 - Dworkin's a funny guy. If you go and listen to his lectures then read over the notes a few times, the tests are a breeze. He's entertaining sometimes with random stories but it can be boring too. He doesn't take attendance but the tests are alot easier if you go to class. Also there are 5 pop quizzes. They're a joke. Fun, easy A.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-05-11

Comments:1401-Earthquakes - Overall a good class and prof. Pretty interesting and he does a good of keeping things enjoyable. Don't buy the book. everything comes from the lecture and he warns about pop quizzes. No homework, but when tests come around you do need to study... as long as you give it a couple hours the night before each test you will be good. Still a nice gpa booster if you can put in the time before each test... and don't miss labs...  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2009-05-09

Comments:GEO 1401 - First of all, it should be said that Dr. Dworkin is a good teacher and a funny guy. He doesn't assign any homework, and he gives an extra credit opportunity that raises your final grade by a full point. However, if you're thinking of taking this class because, like me, you want an easy A in a science class, BE WARNED. Dworkin's tests are some of the most difficult multiple choice tests I've ever taken. They all come straight from the notes, but you need to know literally every word from the PowerPoint if you want to make an A. Contrary to what you may believe, this is not a class where studying the important stuff is enough; Dworkin wants you to know all the minute details as well. The "Rocks For Jocks" thing is definitely false....this class was the only one all semester where I got lower than an A. Keep in mind, I did get a B+, so it's still not a nightmare of a class, but don't go in expecting to breeze through. Also, don't waste money buying the book. His quizzes and tests come entirely from lecture; I never opened the book.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2009-05-07

Comments:Earthquakes - Earthquakes with Dworkin is the easiest class I've had at Baylor. His tests are easy and never gives homework. He's pretty funny in class sometimes too. I definitely recommend this class to everyone.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-01-06

Comments:Earthquakes - AMAZING! my favorite teacher so far. Has very good/funny power points, he likes to throw in random pictures which made me laugh every time. I learned so much. His tests/quizzes are all multiple choice and consist of the stuff we talked about in class. If it wasn't covered in class, then it won't be on the tests and it was very easy to take good notes. I did minimal studying and got an A, but then again I am a geology major :) but he was prat of the reason that I changed my major to geology  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-12-26

Comments:1401 - I don't understand why everyone says this class is SOOO easy. I just pulled a B, and only because I had an A in the lab (luckily I had an easy TA, I knew people who got a C in lab). All the advisors recommend this class to boost your GPA and to lighten your schedule, why is that? There are much easier classes to take if that's what you want to do. Dworkin is a great professor and very passionate about rocks (haha), but you will have to study because it is a lot of material. It is also very boring for the majority of students that don't care about geology. Also - you can never miss class because he doesn't put his notes on Blackboard and gives pop quizzes.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2007-10-24

Comments:1401 - Dworkin is an awesome teacher! His lectures are very interesting, and he is really funny and quirky. Alot of material, but if you study it all, you will do fine. I really enjoyed his class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-08-07

Comments:GEO 1401 - Dworkin was a very fun professor and the class was quite interesting. However, I always studied for the tests (since they are the only form of grades besides lab) and I always was dissapointed. The tests were hard and the questions were difficult to understand. I made low B's and D's on the tests, except for the last one in which I studied ALL weekend and got a 99. He does give extra credit and curves grades, which is good. I would recommend this class because he loves what he teaches and is enthusiastic, and his shirts are cute. :)  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2007-04-24

Comments:1401 Natural Disasters - Dworkin is a really good teacher, but i have to work really hard in class and take up to 4 or 5 pages of notes a day in order for me to have made high B's on both of the tests thus far. Dworkin makes me look forward to class because you can tell he really loves what he's teaching. Tests are 50-70 questions multi choice and straight from the lecture... TAKE GOOD NOTES!!  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2007-03-21

Comments:GEO 1401 - Professor Dworking is a great teacher, but you have to go every day! He doesn't take attendance, which sounds great, but you miss the equivalent of 5-6 questions on the test with each absence. Take him if you can, because he's a great teacher, and you'll be fine.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2004-05-15

Comments:Dworkin is an awesome guy, but this class is harder than it should be. He is very animated and tries to keep the class interesting. However, even after reading the book, I could never get over a C on the tests. This is the lowest grade I have at Baylor. Watch out.
