Comments:Cal 2 - Dr. Stanke isn't the clearest teacher, but he's fine-- especially because he does things by the book, and there are lots of Cal II resources around in the book and online. His homeworks were simple, and his tests were straight from the review sheets he gave in the class period before the exam. I've had several classes in the math dpt at this point (doing this review 2 years later) and Dr. Stanke remains one of the easiest and most personable professors around. Go to his office hours-- they're very, very helpful. He also allows a drop test, which is huge. The one caveat (that many also mention) is his lack of partial credit. I ended up with something like 12 points off on one exam just for a missed minus sign.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Calculus - WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY WHOLE LIFE. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Ended up dropping the class because he was so bad. STAY FAR AWAY.  - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:3325 - Signed up for a BUBooks account just to lead people away from this man if at all possible. I've been a straight-A math student all throughout my career, put some careful consideration into these ratings, and thought I'd be getting a decent professor for what should've been an easy class. I was fooled. He is very cerebral and abstract with his lectures, offering little to no actual examples, which is crucial for math classes and particularly this course. The harshest grader I've ever experienced--you can arrive at the correct answer differently than the methods he teaches and he will count it all wrong. Partial credit is laughably (and sparingly) distributed. I had to reteach myself most sections from the textbook, which I've never really had to do before for a math class, because the man can lecture for 75 minutes without really saying a thing. This was an eye-opening lesson on just how much a professor can impact your understanding of the material (and consequently your grade) either for better or, in this case, for worse. Don't be fooled like I was by all the rave reviews--steer clear if at all possible.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:Calculus 2 - Dr. Stanke is a pretty cool guy and he explains really hard material well. He does make a couple of mistakes here and there, but he's nice about it when people point them out and they aren't super confusing to what he's trying to teach. The course itself sucks, though. I think our class dropped from 32 to 15 or 16 people at the end of the semester, and I was honestly surprised that my grade wasn't curved at the end despite the fact that the test averages were usually barely passing. If you do all of the homework, spend a good amount of time on the quizzes (they're all take home), and memorize the formulas and proofs Dr. Stanke tells you to for the tests, you will be OK. He is always available during his office hours or if you email him, and he has a review session before each test. Good luck!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:MTH 2321 - Dr. Stanke really loves to teach by explaining the math behind things. If you really love math this is great, but it can make it a little difficult to pick up on concepts that would be easier understood if he just worked out an example. The tests are pretty easy and straightforward- just study the take home quizzes and you'll be fine. The only real danger to your grade is the third exam, but for the past two semesters he has allowed the final to replace the lowest grade if you do well. The lectures can be a little dull but you will learn while most likely getting a good grade with Dr. Stanke.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:MTH 1322 - Dr Stanke is a really friendly guy! His teaching style can be somewhat mechanical, and he sometimes gets lost in proofs instead of showing examples that would benefit the class in the long run. However, if you visit him in office hours, he will answer any of your questions. We had five take-home quizzes and three tests throughout the semester. The quizzes were sometimes a little funky, but the tests followed exactly what he put on the study guides. He also holds a review session in Sid Rich before every test. I started the semester with a C, so the class was an uphill battle for me. Stanke's was my hardest class of the semester, but it's certainly doable. Dr Stanke isn't the best calc II professor out there, but you could certainly do a lot worse.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1321 - THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER! I thought I was getting a good professor here, but no. He is by far the worst professor I ever had in history. He doesn't grade your work, his TA does and when you bring it up to him that although you got the answer right but a different way, he won't change your grade. My first test grade was a 46. I tried to go to him to see where I went wrong. Doesn't help much. In class, he goes over theorems and no examples. The textbook doesn't help much either. I was struggling big time in his class even though I had already took Calculus before. He will not like it if you do a problem a different way than what he teaches. He will count it wrong. His quizzes and tests are ridiculous. He's very late at giving back quizzes to study for the tests. DO NOT TAKE HIM.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:2311 - This class is easy. Quizzes and tests are very simple and test your basic knowledge. Lots of proofs in class, but the tests are so easy  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3325 - Stanke is awesome. I have never put in such little time for a class to still get a high a. Great teacher, made ODE very easy and interesting. Quiz a week, 3 tests and final, no hw, definitely take him  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3325 - Stanke is the man. His teaching ability is phenomenal. He gives a quiz roughly once a week ("every" Thursday), and has three tests throughout the semester and the final-- everything is worth twenty percent. He does not collect hw but suggests plenty of practice problems. Because he tells you exactly what kind of problem to expect on the quiz, those should be easy, and as long as you've done enough hw before the test to understand every problem type, you should do great on those as well. Stanke is great in that he NEVER tries to trick you or make you solve difficult integrations, but only tests for understanding by giving straightforward problems. Everyone raves about Hendersen, but I loved Stanke.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3325 - Stanke is the best professor I have had at Baylor hands down. He knows the material backwards and forwards and his number one concern is not getting through the material but making sure everyone understands the material. The homework is not assigned and everything he tested over was done in class, so the homework is really just extra practice if you need it. The quizzes and tests were exactly like what was taught in class. Some of the material in this course is difficult, but Stanke made ODE seem like a breeze. The only reason I didn't make an A was my own careless errors on one test.   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:MTH 2321 - Only has 6 online quizzes, 2 tests, and a semi-cumulative exam (2/3 new, 1/3 old material) overall easy class if you understand the quizzes since his tests are extremely straight forward. Definitely take him, but don't forget to do the quizzes, there is zero tolerance for that.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2321 - Great Professor, just do and understand the quizzes and your set for the tests.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2321 - Cal 3 - I had no problems with Stanke's teaching. He goes fast sometimes but it worked out okay with me. In my opinion, his tests were fair. But then again, keep in mind that I love math.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-03-26

Comments:2321 - Stanke is a horrible teacher. He doesn't explain clearly, and if you ask a question, he makes you seem like an idiot. He only gives two questions all semester, and they both contain materials from 4 chapters. That is simply too much information for one test. The tests come from the online quizzes he gives. I made A's in all of my math classes until I got to Stanke.Do not take Stanke unless this is your only option. If you do end up in his class, make sure to form a study group.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:MTH 2321 - Prof. Stanke is an okay teacher, but really when i was in his class taking notes I really didn't see any good use for the notes because they were not a good explaination of the material. He gave online quizzes when I was taking him and those are though, but the test are based on those. He is a HARD grader and barely gives partial credit. I feel like you can make it through his class but you are going to have to teach yourself the material, so good luck if you takin Stanke  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:1321 - He is very involved in Math Theory, which can detract from the clarity of Calc I. Calculus is an odd enough subject to bend your mind around (as it is very different from other kinds of math) and learning more advanced phases of calc when you're in calc I will only confuse you. One on one he is very good at explaining what you need to know, however his tests are very hard and hes not the easiest of profs to understand during lecture.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1321 - If you pay attention and do what he says, you'll find just like I did that he's freaking awesome!!! He makes sure you understand what you're doing and you'll definitely end up learning not mugging. It was a pleasure being in his class. Not many agree apparently but he's an amazing person to get to know and learn from.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2005-07-21

Comments:1322 - Very smart teacher, but he desperately needs to work on his teaching skills. The entire semester I taught myself by reading the book and assistance from a cal. II student. He is an okay professor, but if there are better teachers available save Stanke for last choice.  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2005-05-05

Comments:2336 - I found his teaching very convoluted, he tends to be so wrapped up in the mathematic parts of it that he does not take time to explain them in real terms. He makes little effort to get to know his students (he didn't know my name in a class of 25 after the whole semester). Students never ask questions but are always confused, if you take this class get a good study group or get close with your book. Unless you are good on learning it on your own stay away from Stanke. I recommend Cannon, he is patient friendly and explains things well.  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2005-04-12

Comments:2321 - Calc 3 was an extremely easy class. Contrary to what I had heard, Stanke is a very ignorant professor. I taught myself all of the material from the book. It is my belief that Stanke either doesnt know how to teach the material or just flat out doesnt know the material himself. Going to class was a waste of time. I only went probably 60% of the time. I would recommend that one not take this class simply because you cannot communicate with him (no people skills) and he is oblivious to what he is teaching.   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1322 - Stanke is genius when it comes to math so his lectures can sometimes be over your head. Overall good teacher but yah grading is actually pretty strict and don't expect curves either.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:Cal 2 - Cal2...Stanke's an awesome teacher and he really wants you to learn the material. He's also very understanding. The only thing I've noticed though is that he grades in a rather hard way. Little mistakes cost heavy points. He'd be the perfect teacher only if he graded less strictly.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2003-12-08

Comments:Calc II - Very good at making you understand the material, tests aren't that hard. He's cool about students going in and asking him questions every day.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2003-11-13

Comments:Good teaching style and is good at making sure students know the material. Excellent prof.
