Comments:1412 - Prof Garza is the sweetest and funniest old man ever. His 1412 class moves fast and his tests are pretty hard. Homework is online and easy. I came into this class as someone who had never took Spanish so I struggled but he offers office hours every single day and is more than understanding. His lectures are mainly engaging with the class and there is a test over every chapter and a final oral interview.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3302 - Dr. Garza is a very caring professor. I really enjoyed him personally and he was a good professor as well. However, I did not love the class. I felt very intimidated and like I never really knew what was going on. There are pop quizzes super frequently --- so always be prepared!!! He is really good about extra credit although it isn\\\'t like other teachers; if you come to his office hours and show him your not great test/quiz score, he will go over it with you and adjust your grade. Highly recommend you see him as much as possible. The only downside is that his office hours are 7-8am in his office. You have to really be intentional. There is almost never homework. It\\\'s just quizzes and tests (which are DIFFICULT). I\\\'m conflicted - I like him and feel like he taught the information well.. but the class dissuaded me from Spanish. I don\\\'t know. I just did not feel enabled. The class was supposed to be about conversation, although we rarely spoke and when we did I was lowkey terrified (which is not the norm for me).  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:SPA 1412 - Dr. Garza is so nice and so helpful. His classes usually include a short lesson and then the rest of the time is spent practicing conversation, so be ready to talk a lot in class. He is kind of hard of hearing so be sure to speak loud. There are three exams that are mostly fill in the blank with conjugations and vocab. They aren't too hard, and he will answer questions while you are taking the exam. He sometimes gives "christmas bonuses" or free points on the exams. If you go to his office hours to go over your tests with him, he will usually give you extra points (and candy). There is hardly any homework. After each chapter he assigns approximately 10 assignment online that take about 45 mins to an hour to complete. Overall, he's a really great professor who really wants to see his students do well in the class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - I took this class in the summer during the first session, and I have NEVER done so well in a class in my life. I had the advantage of taking Spanish in high school, so I had a little more experience than some of the other students, but Garza was very helpful to those who didn't have the background like I did. There's really not a lot of homework for this course, just online activities due once a week, which take less than 30 minutes. I got a 99.75 in the class, and I don't think I spent any more time studying than the other students. Just keep your textbook organized (I would recommend sticky notes for the vocab pages so you can find them quickly) and you will be totally fine. He is truly the best teacher I have ever had at Baylor, I created an account just to review him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1412 - Dr. Garza is one of the best professors I have had at Baylor! He is very helpful, cares a lot about his students, and prepares you well for the tests and quizzes. In his class you will do a lot of speaking and answering questions, so be ready to participate, but overall it will prepare you really well. Even though this class was at 8 am every day, Garza was always helpful and kind. I highly recommend taking his class!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 3302 - Garza is a nice man. However, I was in his class for conversation and compositions. While there were many compositions in this class, there was literally no conversation. All he would do is write notes on the board that when checked online would not add up. The tests for this class were very, very hard and even the smartest kids in the class struggled. He did give you chances to earn points back to the tests but that never seemed to be enough. Would not recommend him as a teacher if you are looking to enhance your conversation skills.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1412 - This class was rough as an 8 am, but Garza was a good teacher. He's an older man who smiles easily and genuinely cares for his students. Despite his thick Spanish accent, Garza is easy to understand and speaks clearly. The workload isn't too bad and he lays all of the exams and interviews out prior to giving them. AKA, if you pay attention in class, you'll know what to study.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1402 - Took him for Summer 2 would highly recommend taking him if you can during summer and if you can get into his class in the fall or spring even if its an 8am DO IT, you can thank me later ;) . As for the summer there were 3 exams and a final. There is homework on each chapter but is put up only after the class has finished the chapter. Unlike other professors he didn't care if you were late on the homework(vistas), it's for your benefit to do them and they do count towards your grade in the end so don't wait until the last minute to do them. His exams were not easy but not hard he does test review the day before the exam and you will know EXACTLY what will be asked on each section of the exam also the quizzes and worksheets he gives you mirror the exam questions just different sentences. SOOO.... if you fail you really have no one to blame but yourself. After the exams he will go over each part so you can correct it and see where you went wrong. If the class did poorly on a section then he would give us a worksheet to redeem points. So for those with a high B, C etc.. you can get your grade on your exam bumped up a whole letter grade. For summer there were 2 oral interviews super easy and again he will tell you exactly what kinds of questions he will ask and how to respond to them. He gives a lot of chances to earn extra points as stated in other reviews. He is a really nice guy and a good professor. It's a language class so you do need to put some time into studying. This class was 3 hours long but he gave us a 30 min break each day and many times we got out early. Don't expect to just skate by because of the extra points and his good reviews you still need to put in effort. He is there to help when you are struggling, his one rule DON'T STAND HIM UP.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - Dr. Garza is the sweetest man at Baylor! He is super helpful and constantly giving advice or "Christmas Bonuses" on homework, quizzes and occasionally listening portions of tests. I took him for Summer Session 1 and it is probably the only reason why I received as high of a grade as I did. He is constantly offering students additional chances to get points back on tests and quizzes. Like it was stated before, if you show up to his class, pay attention, do the homework, and participate you'll end up with a pretty decent grade. TAKE DR. GARZA!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1412 - As previously mentioned, Dr. Garza is incredibly kind and helpful. He is a relatively easy grader and wants you to do well. If you go to class every day and do the online homework then you will do well. I took him at 8am every day which was tough but totally worth it.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1412 - There are so many wonderful things I can say about Dr. Garza! He is such a sweet old man and really cares about how his students are doing. He will call on different students to answer questions in class, but it's not pressured or difficult to respond. He will constantly give his students "Christmas Bonus'" on quizzes and exams, so as long as you're not afraid to ask questions on his exams, you'll be fine with him. I strongly recommend Dr. Garza- even every day at 8 am!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1412 - Dr. Garza makes Spanish seem like a walk in the park. He is a very generous grader and is always willing to help you. Go to his office hours, they really help! His tests are fairly easy and though he does give a fair amount of homework online, it's best if you do it. They count as completion grade. Class participation is a must and going to class everyday will help you a lot. Dr. Garza likes to emphasize on speaking, so be prepared to be called on during class to speak a lot. If you ever have questions on tests or quizzes, go to his office hours and talk to him about it, more than likely he'll just might give you some points back. Though Spanish at Baylor may be challenging, Dr. Garza makes it very enjoyable.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2014-12-18

Comments:3302 - Dr. Garza is so so sweet. He is hard of hearing, so you have to make sure to speak up in class. But, he is very kind and is a generous grader. He gives you everything that you need to know that will be on the tests. They're very simple. The examples he gives in class are pretty much right on the test. Make sure to go to class. He takes attendance everyday and it's a part of your participation grade. Don't miss any if you don't want any points deducted. There is zero workload. You don't have any homework, ever. You don't even need to bother buying any of the textbooks for the class. You only have to study for tests, and write a few 200 word ensayos. If you just go to class, I promise you'll do well!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1401 - I took Dr. Garza in the summer and was so relieved at how easy he made everything. The pace was reasonable and his tests were pretty straightforward. Before every test, he reviews you and does a break down of the points system. The oral interviews are easy to study for since he gives you all the questions before hand and helps you come up with responses. If you ever get a really bad grade on something, GO TALK TO HIM! He is incredibly helpful and lenient if you make an effort in class and show up every day.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1412 - Oh, Dr. Garza. He is a sweet older man that has been teaching Spanish forever and is quite good at it. This course was slow at first, but then got increasingly harder very quickly. Besides studying and a few assignments online, there was not a ton of homework. Make sure you study for the tests, and quizzes were usually kind of hard, but if a lot of the class does not do well, then he will give another quiz to redeem everyone. You definitely need the book as well as a workbook for the class. The tests were short answer and fill in the blank, and sometimes matching. Dr. Garza is old school and loves writing on the chalkboard when he gets the chance. Class participation is a big deal in this class, so show up!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Spanish 3302 - I loved having Dr. Garza as my professor. Basically, the majority of his course is a review of grammatical spanish, with an occasional day that you speak in class. He is very sweet and is always willing to give a "early christmas bonus" when he feels the class deserves it. The only thing about Garza is that he is very unorganized, so if that is something that bothers you a lot I would suggest not taking him. Otherwise if you are willing to deal with that, I think he will be a great choice!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1402 - First off, my advice to anyone is to take Spanish at community college. If you have to take it at Baylor, then do whatever it takes to get Garza as a professor. I had him for the 1402 Summer I session, which meant that we had class from 0800-1115 every day. There was a lot of work, but it was doable. True, Baylor Spanish is a horror story, but Garza is the one exception to the rule. He is nice, friendly, loves tacos, and is overall a great teacher. For me, his teaching style was very effective - he would have each of us answer questions etc, and was very quick to correct pronunciation. His quizzes were relatively easy (if you had done the homework), and sometimes they were "unanounced" (ie hinted at the day before). For the exams and the final, he told us exactly what to expect, in terms of what each section would cover etc. He is a very lenient grader, and gives a lot of "Christmas Bonuses", as well as doing a lot of (in his words) "Mexican Mathematics" (basically, even if you got all the questions wrong, your grade on the quiz would still be above 0). I can't recommend him enough. Other people say to avoid the 800 am classes. I disagree. I think it is worth waking up early to have a much better teacher and a much easier A. Take Garza. Your GPA will thank you.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1412 - Professor Garza was one of the nicest teachers I have ever had. He will help you out on things you don't understand and he gives a pretty decent outline for every test. He doesn't follow the syllabus so you have to keep up with due dates but hes flexible with them. There's hardly any homework just the online activities and destinos which aren't hard just don't get behind on them. Overall this class was fairly easy and he was very helpful  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2010-12-17

Comments:1412 - To start off, this class could have been so easy had I put in the effort. I made a C+ not because it was a difficult course, but because I took the 8am Mon-Fri and missed 14 classes (the max.) and 20% of the grade had to do with class attendance. He hated me for it, but I thought he was a good guy/professor. If you keep up with Destinos, the online labratory manual, and be prepared for each test, Garza's class will be no problem. Go for it, but don't do what I did.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:Conv. and Comp. - I enjoyed this class even though I didn't learn much. It felt like a very slow review of the first 4 semesters of spanish. He is not very organized and the syllabus was mostly ignored, but he is funny and the best part of the class was getting to know the other people in there. Assignments were few and far between and required little preparation. I got lulled to sleep by the lack of work and ended up with a B+, partly because of a lack of work and partly because he doesn't prepare well for tests or quizzes.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1412 - Dr. Garza is such a sweet man! And on top of that, he was a great professor. He made sure that we thoroughly understood the material before moving on to the next topic. He was very flexible and understanding if you happened to miss a quiz or a test. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Garza! But if you plan on taking him at 8AM you should plan on being in bed by 10PM. Taking this course Monday-Friday at 8AM was HORRIBLE! It's just so hard to wake up.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1412 - I heard so many scary stories about Spanish 1412. But Dr. Garza made it a very good class, even at 8AM everyday. Dr. Garza's class is very helpful, in class you don't write or take notes but mostly just talk in spanish. There's not much homework beside destinos and the workbook, about a chapter a week. The tests weren't very hard but there were some tricky sections. He loves when students come see him in his office, and I would recommend that you go to his office because he gives lots of hints. The final was different than most of the tests and was actually kind of hard, but not impossible. Dr. Garza is one of the nicest and greatest professors at Baylor, and your best choice for a Spanish professor at Baylor.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2310 - Take Dr. Garza!! He is the sweetest man ever. He loves helping everyone out during his tests and quizzes, which aren't hard to begin with. No homework except doing the listening stuff for the workbook. He LOVES it when you come see him in his office. I can't say I learned a ton in his class but I certainly loved having him as my professor.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1412 - Dr Garza is probably your best bet for a spanish prof at baylor. he is very understanding and nice and jokes around with you a little. tests are pretty stinking hard but not impossible. dont really have to learn very much vocab. no vocab quizes. if u go to class almost every time you can get at least a C i think. whatever you do, DO NOT take spanish at 8 am: worst decision of my life. no joke.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:SPA 1412 - He is a great teacher and very understanding, since I had him at 8 a.m. He is very into the language since he is natively from Mexico. I would recomend him, just not that early everyday of the week.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3302 - Excellent prof, I really liked the way he teaches his classes- very clear and concise. Very professional and respectful to his students, he makes class fun and is a very cool person,- take him for ANY class you can! :)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1402 - Garza is probably the easiest spanish prof at baylor. But that isn't saying much b/c Baylor Spanish is VERY DIFFICULT. Whatever you do, DO NOT take spanish m-f at 8:00am... Worst decision I've made so far... Garza would be a good bet if you don't want to take Spanish over the summer abroad or at community college... :)  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2005-01-12

Comments:SPA 2320 - Lets see...Dr. Garza is a great great man. I'm a spanish minor...haven't been known to do too well in my other classes...but his class was my most bearable spanish class...eventhough the class is Writing and Composition...it is mostly full of reading cuentas y poemas...then answering questions about them and taking a few quizzes throughout the semester..if you miss a quiz..he is sooo good about letting you come in and make it up...if you bring him an apple :) Very nice man...often times humorous...and I am taking him next semester as well as going to Spain this summer...Take him...you won't be sorry! :)  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1402 - I loved taking Dr. Garza as a teacher. I did not do so well on the first test, but I went in and talked to him and he helped me to understand what I messed up on. His quizes are long like his tests, but if you dont finish, he is very good about setting up an appointment so that you can finsih it. I would HIGHLY recomend him to anyone that wants a good teacher who knows what he is talking about. He also teachers during the summer trip to Spain and I will be going on that and hope that he will be my teacher there because he is one of the best teachers I've ever had.  - Grade In Class:B
