Comments:Phy 1408 Summer - Physics, no matter who you take it with, is going to be a hard class. I took physics over the summer so the workload was a lot, but that was expected. Dr. Ari can be hard to understand at times. His tests are pretty straight forward and he gives curves on each exam as well as at the end of the class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1409 - Okay. I took Dr. Ari's class for both 1408 and 1409, and I do admit that his pronunciation was kinda hard to understand in the first few weeks of the semester. However, as the semester go by, because most of the terms Dr. A use class are technical terms from physics textbook, if you keep up with the recommended reading schedule, his pronounciation is no problem. After all, to get a good grade in class, reading textbook is a mandatory as his exams cover both calculations and conceptual questions. What is nice about Dr. Ari's class is his grading policy. Long story short, if you get an A in final (above 90) you get A as the final grade (no matter how bad your previous exams were). This assumes that you have attended class more than 75% and passed the lab section of the class of course. This is nice becuase you can get Cs and Bs in his exams and still afford to make an A or B in his class. I personally had all Cs in all of my exams, but I worked hard on my finals and was able to pull out an 90 (like barely) on the final exam and ended with A as the final grade for the course. Some may ask isnt the final hard? Well, he uses a lot of questions from the previous exams from class and he gives the exams back once they are graded. So if you review the exams and powerpoints thoroughly for the final, you are good to go to shoot for a high grade in class. Hope this helps in determining which Physics professor to take at Baylor!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PHY 1409 - Dr. Ari is an okay guy. He is obviously very intelligent, and I'm sure he is a capable physicist. However, he is not a good professor. He is just not a good communicator. He is incapable of explaining concepts in a way that is easy to understand to someone who isn't "physics fluent." I've been to his office hour multiple times, and he often gets frustrated when he has to explain something multiple times and if I don't 'get it’ right away. If you ask him to explain something, he will just repeat it the same way over and over. Unhelpful. Also, he frequently teaches things WRONG. Multiple times over the course of the semester, he has taught a concept incorrectly, which my peers and I realized while reviewing at home, and when we bring it up in class, he pretends as if we misheard him. Right. Because the whole class misheard you and wrote down the wrong thing. The workload is light (the only homework is Mastering, which you can Chegg) and his tests have a very predictable format, but if you take Dr. Ari be prepared to do a lot of self study and be sure to fact check everything he tells you by the book.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Physics 1420 - Physics is not an easy subject. However, Dr. Ari is a very helpful teacher. While he may seem somewhat intimidating, it seriously helps to go to his office hours and ask him questions. His tests are mostly based on his powerpoints and if you ask him questions about the powerpoints you are basically guaranteed to get a good grade on his tests.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:PHY 1430 - Ari is a good professor with his main drawback being his accent. It is really easy to miss things if you aren't paying perfect attention and not sitting in the front. There was quite a bit of online homework but considering how hard the tests are, it was a worthy investment of time. Tests were in class with 70 percent multiple choice and 30 percent work-out problems. They required a large amount of preparation to do well.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PHY 1420/1430 - I took two semesters with Ari; I promise you can understand his accent after a couple of classes. His teaching style is not the best, but he gets his points across well enough. He is quite witty, which makes class a bit more entertaining, but his lectures are LONG. Don't ever expect to get out early, because you never will. The tests borrow heavily from the in class multiple choice, and the participation points are crucial. Do the multiple choice before class if you can! He adds a lot of points at the end so don't be completely horrified with test scores (the highest test average I ever saw in the class after a whole year was 62% before the curve). If you put in the work you can get through Physics, but if you don't you will pay the price.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1409 - Dr. Ari is such a nice man. I had him this past summer, and things went by pretty quickly. He usually teaches cal based physics, but teaches non cal based during summer. There were 3 tests and the final. His tests had a multiple choice section and 2 free response questions, which usually consisted of 2-6 subquestions. His tests were not difficult, but I constantly made careless mistakes. He did curve each one, usually by 5-7 extra points. He also gave lots of practice multiple choice questions during class, which showed up on his tests, of course with some words switched around. Also, his free responses came from mastering, with numbers changed as well, but study these and the concepts behind the answers and you'll be fine. On mastering, the highest grade on some slides was about 105-107, which helps (I had a perfect 100 on my homework average). The nice thing about this class was the way things were weighted. Everything was worth 16% except for the final, which was 20%. He also adds a slight curve at the end of the course and will bump some people up to an A if he feels like you have worked hard (by attending class and answering questions). You will learn from him, he definitely knows his stuff :)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1420 - Ari is a good teacher. He is a very nice man and cares about his students and their success. There is mastering due about twice a week, which can be annoying but if you do good on it, it's a nice grade boost. The tests are pretty easy if you study and pay attention. Multiple choice test questions come from the slides. Free response come from mastering. Each test is 10% of your grade. Tests have 30 multiple choice questions which are 70% of the test and 2 free response for the other 30. Lab is 15% of your grade and tutorial 5%. Mastering is 15% and the final is 25%. Perfect attendance earns 3% extra credit and answering questions in class can get you up to 2%. He really helps you get a good grade!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1409 - If you need to learn physics or just want to have a teacher who truly knows his stuff loves his students and wants them to succeed take Ari. He is one of my favorite professors at Baylor and if I could I would take him again for physics one.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2012-08-16

Comments:PHY 3320 - Forgive the fact that he (as of 2011) has not given a single person in any of his upper-level classes an A for eight years, get used to his accent, and think past his verbatim textbook recitation in lectures, and he's a decent professor. In all actuality, he has a good sense of humor, when he bothers to unleash it every other class period or so. However, the class material was difficult, and his explanations were merely textbook recitals. No thought-provoking or aha-moments in his class: I do; therefore, I am. I suggest, although I didn't have the time, to work through the homework problems thoroughly and repeatedly, for some of his exam questions are repeats of the homeworks. Had I done this, my grade would most certainly be higher. Do it, and you may get a shot at that once-in-a-decade A.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2435 - Dr. Ari is very smart. He gives you 3 points extra for showing up for every class. I have taken him for 1425 only b/c I loved the way he gave test 20 M/C and two problem solving. He's a funny man if you stop by to visit him in his office. He also knows people by their names so don't try get people sign your name on the roll b/c he will know.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2007-08-15

Comments:1425 - Dr. Ari is an intelligent man who knows his physics. He prepares for class right before coming. He is very pressed for timing. 20 M/C and two problem solving questions that come from the HWK he assigns at the end of each chapter he covers. HWK is due every other day so be prepared.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1425 - Excellent teacher. I never had any problem understanding him, despite his accent. He's always willing to help out. There is a fair amount of homework to do, but it's usually not to hard, and if you do it and understand it, the tests are not a problem. But if you just fudge your way through the homework, the tests could be killer. I'm definitely taking him again.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Phy1409 - he is a decent teacher, but i'll let you decide on what kind of a guy he is. he wouldn't let me extend my test and go to my grandfather's funeral. i thought it was pretty messed up  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2006-08-23

Comments:1409 - Ari was a great professor. I took him in the summer, and things went by pretty fast. Make sure to do all the homework (with solution manual if possible), do great in lab (only have to write 3 full lab reports in summer), and for the tests, get some old tests for practice and go over MCQ questions from blackboard. Overall, I thought the tests were fairly easy if you studied. The average was always in the 60's, but curves increased them to mid 70's. If you take good notes and study a reasonable amount of time and do homework, theres no reason not to get an A in this class.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Phy 2435 - A good guy; I never saw his accent as a problem. Homework is an easy way to boost your grade. Tests are okay, he gives you practice multiple choice problems, and the free response are directly from the homework. We got extra points for attendance.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2006-04-24

Comments:PHY 1425 - Some people seem to think that he's hard to understand, I never had a problem though. I think he is good at explaining the material and he is was always helpful when I went by to see him outside of class. The homework can take a bit of time, it depends how well you are able to work with the material. If you can do the homework without a problem, the tests shouldn't be a problem either, but if not, they could kill you, so be careful.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Summer - 2435 - I really didn't think his accent was bad. Maybe it was because everyone told me that I wasn't going to be able to understand him. He might have taken an english class or something because he is understandable now. Now that I have cleared that up...here's the rundown on the class in the summer. We had three tests which consist of 25 multiple guess and 2 write out problems. Highest grades were high 80's, but don't worry, he curves the grades at the end. Do your homework! Get the answer manual like the review says below..it helps out big time. The labs are so easy during the summer. If you are not good at physics, I suggest you take this class in the summer because it is so laid back and no one fails as long as you put some work into it. It is a month of hell though, but that's better than a semester of hell.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2435 - Dr. Ari is very kind, and although his accent takes a little getting used to, he is a good teacher and very willing to explain material that you do not understand. The class was a little difficult for me as the only premed and the only non-engineering or non-physics major in the class, but that was not Dr. Ari's fault, but rather a consequence of the difficulty of the material. Dr. Ari is in his office a lot and always willing to answer questions. He curves grades at the end. There is a lot of homework, but I found that it contributed significantly to my understanding and my grade (especially with the extra book available at the bookstore with the answers to most of the homework problems in it). If you have Ari, definitely, definitely get that answer manual...the 100's on your homework will significantly help your grade :)  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:PHY 1409 - Ari was hard to understand at times, but after a while you get it. I had him for summer school so there was homework every night, and physics nonstop for a month. He curves at the end.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2004-01-12

Comments:1425 and 2435 - I took Dr. Ari for PHY 1425 and 2435. His accent makes him difficult to understand and the material is hard enough. Luckily homework counts as a big grade and that can really help out. Get together with other students to work on the homework though, cuz it's pretty time consuming. Phys labs are horrible and nearly all the TA's suck. His tests are difficult, but fair. He also curves the scores. The final is butt-hard, so be sure and study for it. I walked into PHY I with an A, came out with a B+ after the final. Same in PHY II. The course is difficult, but Ari is fair. Put in a lot of work and you can do well.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:phy 1425 - um...second time taking phy 1425 thanks to wong last semester, but had some of the same problems w/ dr. ari...the language barrier is a problem...he really tries to get the material across, but it's like watching the spanish channel, after about 5 minutes you just want to quit trying to figure out what they're saying and just sit in your seat to get the attendance credit...definately a doable class...keep up on your work, he's always around if you have a problem...i should have gone more often...i wouldn't recomend him, but don't have any particular complaints...tests again, are doable, but study...  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2003-12-15

Comments:1425 - Tests aren't TOO bad, curved a good 10-12 points. Homework is worth 25% of the class, which is good for some, bad...for me.   - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2003-11-13

Comments:1425 - Dr. Ari is a very nice man and was alway in his office when I needed assistance. It is true that he can't speak English, but whatever language he does speak is just too cute for me to be upset. Tests aren't too bad, and he curved most of them.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2003-10-09

Comments:nice guy, but you wont understand a word of his lectures. his tests are really easy if you study a little bit.
