Comments:3D Design - This professor is genuinely insane, in the worst way . His workload is over the top, seriously you will spend more time on this class than the rest of your schedule combined, no doubt. He is so disrespectful and does not care about your wellbeing at all. So sexist and unfair to anyone who doesn't literally bow down to him. He expects everyone to be a professional, and if not, he will give you a D. H This man will talk for 2.5 hours (granted this class is 2 hours and 45 mins hours long) and give us 15 minutes to work on the project. He claims to be giving "demonstrations" but ends up on tangents, talking about the most unrelated, random things. One instance, he ended talking about border laws and his grandmother's old house in North Carolina for more than half the class period. All in all, I would have rather changed my major then taken this class, had I known. This is your sign, avoid Robbie Barber at all costs.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3D Design - This class let me say was the hardest class I have ever taken so far at Baylor. I know a nice professor is not important at all, but it was suprising to me of how bad this teacher was when all the other art professors at Baylor are so nice and very good professors. This class has a lot of workload which is understandable, but is extremely difficult to get a good grade in this class. It is almost impossible to get an A in this class. There was no one I knew that got an A. I can tell you that I have worked my butt off in this class, and have worked more harder that I felt than any other student. I have certainly learned that he is a very strict grader, and I feel he is too harsh when grading, and is very hard on students. Especially on Freshmans. I thought 2D was difficult, but it doesn’t compare to his class. I was constantly in that class working on projects and had a hard time passing that class. I would definitely take advantage on making what he likes because it helps you getting a good grade. Like in the wrap object project I would make ugly artwork since you get a higher grade for that project. For the final, I would make objects that you can make with clay, make it earier on itself. For the first project, the key is to making a unique design, you’ll know more about when you take the class. He is certainly unhelpful at times through his advice and doesn’t give you the best answer. I would suggest meeting with him, anyway. What I found most unfair is that the only points given are the projects. There is no extra credit offered unless for evaluation, but there is no quizzes or such points offered. And he expects you to have no social life whatsoever (which I can understand as an art major) but he gives you no break, expecting you to always work on the art projects every weekend since he says weekends are for art. He even gives you art homework in Spring Break. Just know it is a lot of work, and you certainly have to work really hard for this class.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:3D Design - Barber genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He is pretty tough, but it is because he wants to push his students to create the best pieces they can. With that being said this is NOT a blow off class, it has an extremely heavy workload and you WILL have to come into the studio on your days off. The worst part about his class is the attendance policy, if you come in after or while he is taking roll he will count you late. Being counted late gives you 1/3 of an absences. As someone who had a class on the opposite side of campus (the ABL) this really hurt my grade. If you can make sure your class before his is in the same building or very close by that would be a good idea.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:sculpture - I went into his class thinking he couldn't be that bad but he was worse. I don't dislike many people in my life but I very much dislike him not only as a professor but as a person. He is a bully, he is negative, he is rude, he's not caring, and definitely has many personality disorders. I don't know how he was hired here at baylor or how the heck he hasn't been fired. For starters, I never missed ONE class, gave him nothing but my full respect, I tried hard but he treated me like actual crap! My health physically and mentally was so bad during his class. I did everything I could just to be told I suck. He also makes it clear that he doesn't care if we are sick, if someone dies and in his words "if we break every bone in our body from a car accident" we still need to get everything done. Sure if he said it jokingly it would be funny but he is serious when he makes these comments. BTW I have thick skin and I don't get offended easily but this man does everything in his power to make you feel worse than him. He told me I probably don't have friends and that's okay because who actually wants to be friends with people (he was dead serious) Which says a lot because who doesn't want friends and human connection? So strange. Also, He makes it very clear he is liberal (Which I don't care what you are) but he calls republicans awful an harsh names. He acts like he's a saint when he's also literally the most sexist person ever, he always likes the guys in the class better than the girls, its so obvious. Next, we had to buy so much material through out the semester and I work everyday for money to pay for groceries, gas and bills and he didn't care so I didn't have money for food for a while. Another time, I almost severally hurt myself on a new machine we learned and he was mad at me that I almost broke his machine and didn't care to ask if I got hurt. I just don't understand how I always treated him with nothing but kindness and respect every class, yet he can't say one nice thing, like he is so unprofessional. Anyways I thought this would be good insight since if your an art major you will most likely HAVE to take him, good luck his class is absolutely draining.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:2345 Metal - Gosh there’s a lot to say about Professor Barber, but I’d have to start by saying he’s just as wild as his classes, jumping from place to place around the room and saying the most random things, but I think it gives him character and he’s genuinely made our class crack up laughing several times. He’s not the most gentle hearted person, so I’d say you need to build up a thicker skin for his class, but I think it’s more from years of experience than actual cruelty. His workload is extremely heavy so you need to devote a lot of time to his course, and you might find that your grade doesn’t match your effort, which can be frustrating but he truly does grade on quality over quantity which can feel unfair if you don’t take to sculpture. He’s available during his scheduled office hours which are a pretty average amount, no trouble getting ahold of him. I think my biggest issue was that when I would ask questions, it was sometimes difficult to get a straight answer, but if you pay attention and take his answers as suggestions rather than a strict map you have to follow, you should be able to grab the meaning. His deadlines are incredibly strict and barring severe illness he doesn’t give extensions. Overall I’d say he’s extremely tough, his workload is the devil, but his class is incredibly rewarding in the long run and you’ll learn more than just sculpture in his courses.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:3345 - Professor Barber has been one of the most unhelpful professors I've had here at Baylor. I did not have him for 2D Design, so I don't know how he is in that class, but I took him for metal sculpture and he was terrible. He taught us the basic techniques of welding, but offered no insight on how to actually make a good sculpture. His feedback on the final grades (he's a very tough grader by the way) was almost never helpful and somewhat insulting. I frequently got the comments of weak design and minimal effort. However, he did nothing to help me strengthen my design and I know that my effort was far beyond "minimal." Unless you're an actual sculpture major, I do not recommend taking any sculpture classes if you value your GPA and your time.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1316 - Barber is a wonderful and enthusiastic art teacher. He definitely refines your skills. Do not ask for sympathy or pity. He clearly outlines his expectations and will not accommodate them. Work hard in class, try not to chat too much, and work on the project in the room rather than taking it home. The reviews look like A and B but I do not think my class did that well. This was an especially rewarding class and I am so glad I took it!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1316 - Barbers class requires a lot of out of class time but if you are an art major you should be used to that. He is very knowledgeable about sculpting and is passionate about it. He will talk a lot to avoid any confusion and to get the point across. He takes up the entire class period, but it doesn't matter because in order to get a good grade you MUST put in extra effort outside of class. Non art majors might want to stay away from this class, just because it is a lot of work for a subject that is not your concentration. You will learn a lot from Barber if you apply yourself, ask questions, act interested, STAY AFTER CLASS or just make sure your come in and work on your projects A LOT. He will take notice and appreciate it. Take barber if you are an artist, he will teach you a lot. Definitely one of the most influential art professors I have had a Baylor.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1316 - yep, all the comments below are pretty much the real deal. He is extremely picky and can drive you nuts.. also (hopefully this has improved since I last had him..) he can pick favorites which is annoying, and will be downright rude if he constantly doesn't like your work. Once I improved though, and he saw that I do have some talent.. he warmed up to me, and now I like him alright, because i did learn alot from him and he really does know what he's talking about. the projects can be fun too, if you balance your time and don't wait until last minute.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1316 - Oh my gosh! Robbie is crazy! If you have to take his class be prepared for the first day of class. You come in to the first day of a 3 hours class to pick up the syllabus and meet the professor right? NOOOOO not with Robbie, he will keep you for the ENTIRE 3 hours talking about what he expects from you. Yes I said TALKING, without a break … and talking… and talking. This man is like the Energizer Bunny of talking, nothing can stop him. His work load is insane! He is the most meticulous, nit picky, anal, person (and biggest perfectionist ever.) He’s known as the Art Nazi for a reason. He also tries to instill paranoia and fear of failure into his students, which really sucks if you have enough to stress about already. If you’re an art major, get ready! You have to take his class. He’s basically a decent person, he’s just really crazy and his class will make you go crazy!   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1316 - Robbie grades extremely hard, but he tells you exactly what he wants. When I say exactly I mean it...he gives like two hour long explinations about our projects. It's extremely boring especially at eight in the morning for a three hour class, but it is very informative and you aren't left having no clue what to do. He's projects are kind of fun and interesting but hard work.   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1316 - Robbie's class is insanely hard. Don't take it if you have an otherwise challenging courseload, especially if you want to make an A. In his favor, Robbie is a great teacher, he's upfront about what he expects, and he's very personable. And, if you're an art major, there's no way to avoid this class. Enjoy!  - Grade In Class:B
