Comments:3302 - He is a very interesting man. His lectures are boring, there is little to no conversation in his class, sometimes he will repeat himself several times and teach the same thing over and over again. HOWEVER, it's so easy to get an A. His exams are exactly what he posts on his study guides and it's almost certain you'll get a perfect score on the oral presentation by just trying and saying something. I didn't learn much but I'll be taking him again for a GPA boost.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3302 - He is honestly so kind and his class was so easy. He doesn't believe in canvas and only emails. He told us exactly what was going to be on the tests and I never scored below a 93. He is so sweet and I am def taking another one of his classes.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 3302 - Despite what other reviews say, I loved my experience in this class. However, I do see why others don't. This class involves little to no conversation and you probably won't learn much. He lectures (not as boring as it sounds) the whole time and often lets you go early. He gives you study guides for each story in class, and if you memorize some of the information on them, you will get close to an 100 on every test. His "ten minute oral presentation" was 2 minutes. He grades incredibly easy. You will likely become bored, but there is very little homework and you will make it out with an A if you put in minimal effort. So pick your poison.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3302 - The fact that Professor Garcia-Corrales has a low BU books is simply blasphemous. This man is one of the funniest professors you will ever meet. I saw him a few times outside of class and the genuine happiness he gets seeing his students is amazing. He is a very lenient professor, Go to class, answer the questions, study his guides, and you will be fine. In the wise words of professor G-C “canvas is a computer it has no human, I am human and humans give bonus points”NO NEED FOR A CANVAS!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3356 - Dr. Garcia-Corales is a very intelligent professor. He was always very kind to all of the students and was ALWAYS willing to help. You WILL learn a lot in this class, and the stories we read were all amazing! Every Week we read a story and then answered a 12 step analysis. It was very thorough, but helpful. He basically gives you the answers for every single test, you just have to study it, but he will not trick you. Everything is straightforward. Take this class!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - Honestly, screw everything about this professor. In class he will go on tangents about things that have very little or nothing to do with the current topic at hand and most of the time it won't even be in Spanish! He's extremely obnoxious and excessively loud. Without warning, he'll bang on desks and shout just to get his point across. Almost everyday, he will brag about how he got into Notre Dame or how he's so much smarter than you. He's also genuinely one of the least funny people I've ever met, his jokes are absolutely terrible, but he will try to make them all the time. Going to class itself feels pointless because he gives you the answers he wants for the tests and most of the things discussed in class WON'T EVEN BE IN THE REVIEW. Every test is an essay style test where he expects you to copy verbatim whats on the review. He invalidates any real discussion or analysis of the texts in class by giving you his review, despite saying that he's teaching you how to understand Spanish text. He hates when people go see him in office hours because for some reason he just can't be bothered with explaining grades or explaining concepts. This guy is the absolute WORST. DO NOT EVER take him.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2320 - I tested into Spanish after not taking it in 3 years and was extremely nervous but Dr. Garcia Coralez was great! TAKE HIS CLASS IN THE SUMMER! It was a decent amount of work to complete but very manageable. He gives you the answers to the questions so just make sure for the test you write down what his answer was!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Spanish lit - He is seriously brilliant-the man knows everything about everything. He's a little intimidating and can come off as condescending. However, if you go to him one-on-one, he's very helpful. You can't b.s. your way through the class b/c he WILL call you on it. A lot of people hated this class, but as a Spanish major I highly recommend GC. He obviously loves literature & you learn ALOT in this class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:SPA 3356 - He is really full of himself and uninterested in his students. The class is really easy if you are willing to sit through class and listen to his voice, go through an oral interview, and write an 8 page research paper. Grades are arbitrary and are based on how much he likes you. The only grades are two tests, an oral interview about the 2 novels you read, the paper, and the final. He gives you packets with his 12 steps to story analysis, and you just have to memorize his opinions and spit them back on the tests to make an A.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 2320 - Let me just tell you and I kid you not: THIS MAN IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY BAYLOR EDUCATION!! I don't say this because he was hard or that he just expected a lot. I say this because he flat out does not know how to teach and how to help his students. I still CAN'T IMAGINE WHY IN THE WORLD this man was hired in the first place!! You are expected to answer 12 questions that he gives for each short story but he mostly discourages you if you don't have an answer similar to his. At the end of class, he will have a handout ( which is 7 pages long) of all the 12 questions answered by him. You can't go to his office hours and meet with him about the questions because he will look at you angrily and say "you have the answers in the handout! Don't waste your time and don't waste mine!" ABSOLUTELY RUDE AND INSULTING IN CLASS! Yes his tests are straight from the handout. If you don't memorize his answers verbatim from the handouts, you won't do well on the exams. Don't go to his office because he will only criticize you and threaten you by saying he will lower your grade. Even on the first day of class he said to everyone not to complain about the course to anyone higher up than him (like the spanish department) or else there will be serious consequences!! I was lucky to even make a B in the class. Please DON'T by any means take this professor...someone else is better than him...really!!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2320 - I cannot fathom how this professor was able to teach at Baylor. He was literally the worst professor I had at Baylor- ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. I don't understand the ratings below me saying that he was great...like what? This guy would expect us to follow a 12 question handout to discuss everyday in class, no opinions welcomed, and was completely and utterly very rude to his students. Yes- all the answers to the tests are on the handouts....which are also 10 pages long for each story. He thought that all the students were out to get him every time a question was asked. Just take someone else...or take it another semester...by all means, just don't take him...  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:SPA 3356 - Dr. GC is a nice man...most of the time. I'm not really fond of his teaching style or his approach to the literature. Even the stories that I liked were brought down by the cut-and-paste 12-question style of analysis. Discussion on the readings was limited to these 12 questions, and other opinions were not very welcome. He seemed very angry with a student one day because she disagreed with him, and he proceeded to talk for 30 minutes about why you should never disagree with your superiors. Tangents were often, long, and unhelpful. Also likes to say "I'm not bragging," or "This is not about me," but then he seemingly gloats about his accomplishments or the accomplishments of past students. Nice guy whom I would probably like to know outside of class, but terrible professor, in my opinion.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 2320 - By far, Corrales is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He has a passion and energy that communicates to and energizes the students. Corrales has a knack for making you laugh, and class was always fun. His laughter was infectious and class never a drag, but we also learned the material. He engaged students, and never put down anyone's ideas. He is very personable and willing to help students as he can. However, he does have a low tolerance for whining or students that want things made easier for them. His policies are extremely reasonable, and his grading is not hard. Don't complain on how he grades because if, for example, you receive a C average, but you have worked hard and engaged in class, he might just bump you to a B, which is more than majority of professors will do. Corrales knows Spanish literature and is also well read in American and European literature and philosophy. Take the time to talk him, he has a wealth of knowledge to pass on and an extra joke or two. Tests were easy, and if you did the homework questions and read the material, then you were set. The test questions were basically the homework questions. There was an oral interview that he gave a sheet with the possible questions for, so it was easy to prepare for. The final is comphrehensive, but most are taken from questions asked on previous exams. Listen in class, attend every day, and volunteer and discuss your ideas over the literature he'll see you try. I highly recommend Corrales. You won't be sorry if you take him. I wish he taught the upper level classes that I need, I would take him again in a heartbeat.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4376 - Hilarious. Wonderful teacher. His class isn't easy so if you have no interest in learning anything at all, you should probably take someone else. Funny and informative.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4376 - He is really funny, and quite sarcastic. I learned a lot about the Latin American novelist in this class. It was very hard, but the key is to go and see him for help at the beginning. Also, learn the handouts and be able to answer all the questions from the handouts verbatim from his responses.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4375 - Dr. Garcia-Corales is soooooooooooo funny. I LOVED his short story class. YES- he can come off as arrogant.. BUT he NEVER looks DOWN on ANYONE -- as opposed to other REALLy arrogant profs. I NEVER fell asleep in his class. Taking Dr. Garcia-Corales renewed my love for Spanish lit. Fromt the first day you enter his class, you begin to learn how to analize literature and write... I don't know how that man did it.. but I noticed that by the end of the semester, I had actually learned how to write a powerful and insightful paper on a work. This might sound crazy, but I LOVED the classroom discussions, and then when he would lecture on the meaning of the stories.. it was crazy.. I learned SO MUCH in that class, that I would pay to take it again. His lectures were so interesting that I never once saw somebody fall asleep in the class. I'm probably a huge dork to say this, but for the first time in my college experience, I would look up at the clock, hoping that it would actually SLOW down--because I didn't want class to end-- it was when I did that I realized that I was privileged to be taking a class with a professor of such high caliber--without a doubt-- the best spanish professor there is. He TEACHES better than everyone else--- and TRUST me-- I've taken around 40 hours of upper level spanish classes already!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:33something - umm....he is not very nice, nor very humble. seems like this class was going to entail a lot of work, both busywork and serious studying. i heard his tests arent hard, just be able to answer his big 10 questions about every work. i just wouldnt want to put up with his attitude everyday. hes very condescending when u cant answer his questions during class discussion the way he wants u to. i dropped (along with 3 other students) bc he pissed me off with that.   - Grade In Class:DROP

Comments:2310 - Yes, the guy is funny, but a horrible teacher. If you want comedy and don't care about your grades take him. But if you want a good grade, I would take anyone else.   - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:2320 - He is so funny. It's actually easier to understand him when he speaks Spanish. He is very willing to work with students. I wish there were more Spanish profs here like him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - This guy should be a stand up comic! He is hillarious. His class is great. Good grader. Take him if you want to learn and get a comedic performance.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:3300 - A fair amount of work, but from an intro lit course, that's to be expected. Taking him during the summer definitely helped me to keep up. He's a very nice guy, but it's not an easy class... keep up with the reading, and answer his "ten questions" and you'll be fine.  - Grade In Class:A
