Comments:1302 - HORRIBLE professor!! Only reason i was able to make a B (which i definitely thought i should have done better, I had a borderline B+/A most the semester) was because I went to every SI and practiced on my own. Nothing, i repeat NOTHING is taught in this class. He spends more time discussing his trips to foreign countries, like Fiji, and high school football, than talking chemistry. and when he does talk chemistry it doesn't make sense. Bad teacher.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2013-05-10

Comments:1301 - Absolutely the worst professor I have ever had. He does not teach anything and you have to teach yourself. It was almost completely pointless to go to class.  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2011-12-26

Comments:1301 - I feel bad for anyone that didn't have a chemistry background or has to take more chemistry because I didn't learn anything from Young. It's pretty easy to get an A, the practice exams from SI are almost exactly like the exams you'll have to take. On a redeeming note, Dr. Young likes to make crazy Baylor football predictions; I wish he were my grandpa, not my chemistry professor.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2011-12-13

Comments:Chem 1301 - Dr. young does little teaching in class, but gives you an exam review that is almost exactly the same as the test. The S.I. is very helpful as well. He is absurdly obsessed with people not being late, even 2 minutes and you will be called out, and showing up to class. As a chemistry major I may be biased, but the material itself was not hard. Keys are to study the exam review and go to class and not be late and you will be fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2011-11-16

Comments:1301 - This man is adorably grandpa-like. That said, he will teach you literally nothing. If you take his class, you're going to sit there and listen to him tell you about NCIS and his own life while people fall asleep around you. If you want to actually learn something and pass the tests (which aren't REALLY that difficult) you have to go to the SI's. They also don't care if you use programmable calculators on the tests so you can use that to your advantage.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2011-11-14

Comments:1301 and 1302 - Dr.young is a terrible teacher!! do not take him unless you want to teach the material yourself. His classes are very boring and he does not know how to explain the material. The test are hard because since he never shows how to work out every type of problem you have to figure it out all by yourself. Again do not take him! my high school teacher can do better than him  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:1301 - DR Young, is honestly a wonderful person, but not a wonderful teacher. Honestly his tests are not hard if you know your chemisty. But if you are going in as a freshmen in college, who has not had chem in a good 2 years be prepare to stuggle. I took the 1301 with young and for next semester I switched to Mcgrath. Young is passable, if you know your chem. I didn't  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1301 - Dr. Young is very boring. His lectures are pretty much him standing at the front of the room working problems on the board. If you took AP Chemistry in high school, you will breeze through this class. There is absolutely no homework in this class leaving your entire grade dependent on exams. He gives two of the exams in class and the rest are off hour exams, which means you have to come in later that day between 3 and 9 to take the exam. Our SI Leader posted practice exams on Blackboard. If you are able to work through the practice exams without looking things up, you will easily get an A. Each exam has 25 questions (4 points each). He is not the best teacher so if you have no chemistry background, I would either find a different professor or attend SI on a regular basis. SI will go through the practice test and work problems until you understand the material. There is a book assigned but I never opened it. He offers extra credit for students that attend every class. Its 10 points to your "point pool" if you attend all lectures or 5 points if you miss one. I was determined to get these points the first half of the semester but after awhile I didn't care because I couldn't get myself up to be bored out of my mind. He's not a great teacher but doesn't require a lot from you. You learn more about solving problems rather than theory. If you need an easy class that doesn't require much take Young.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Dr. Young is not a good teacher, he is boring and talks about football most of the time.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1301 - horrible teacher. monotone and not helpful- relies solely on TA  - Grade In Class:F

Comments:1302 - I absolutely love Dr Young! If you get to know him, he is such a great guy and wants the best for his students. However, it is hard to see that in class. There are onl 4 tests and a final. The final is SO HARD. The best way to get an A in the class is to go into the final with a solid A. I don't recommend Dr Young unless you have a strong chemistry background  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2010-05-27

Comments:Chem 1302 - Dr. Young is really nice and pretty funny (loves NCIS), but i had a hard time learning in his class. I think it would be next to impossible to make a good grade if it weren't for SI and the SI leader (Alex). You MUST go over the practice tests given by the SI leader, NOT the ones Dr. Young gives you. I wouldn't recommend this teacher if you want to learn a lot from him. You have to be good at teaching yourself!  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2010-05-12

Comments:1301 - If you're really good at teaching yourself, go ahead and take his course. However, if you like to get the instruction you pay good money for, avoid him at all costs. True, all the test questions are recycled, however, going about cramming everything in is a burden. It's almost as if you have an extra class...especially if you go to SI frequently. Once again, avoid him  - Grade In Class:F

Date: 2010-05-08

Comments:1301 - GET OUT! Dr. Young is the worst teacher I have ever had. He wasted so much time in class telling pointless stories when i wanted to be learning material for the test. often he would only do 1 or 2 problems the entire class and would explain them in the worst way. If you know your chem/took honors or AP in high school you will prob be fine just bored in class. GO TO SI-they are the ones that taught me everything for the tests and I still had a hard time. Other than his teaching inabilities, he was a very nice man.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2010-05-07

Comments:1311 - Dr. Young's class was great. he is not that good of a teacher, but his SI's give you their tests from the year before which have about half of the questions word for word. they teach you basically everything you need to know. i hated chemistry in high school but this was one of my favorite classes. i would highly recommend him  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2010-04-08

Comments:CHEM 1301 - Take his class for CHEM 1301! He is not that great of a teacher, but his SI teachers are amazing. As long as you go to the si, you will do fine in this class.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2010-01-19

Comments:1301 - Dr. Young can’t teach. If you already know chemistry well then he’ll be really easy. If you don’t know much chem then don’t take him. If you are forced to take him then you’ll have to go to the Supplemental Instruction. He must have tenure. The only good part is that there’s no homework.   - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2010-01-14

Comments:1301 - It is CRUCIAL to get his old tests from someone who took his class before. The old tests are almost identical to the one's he'll give you. Work through and know the old tests, and you can make an A easy.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2010-01-07

Comments:1301 - Young definitely knows Chemistry. He knows his stuff, but he has a hard time teaching it. Maybe it was taking him at 8:00 AM, but it was very hard to stay awake while he was teaching. One good thing was that he had an SI session for his classes, which helped immensely. Again, he definitely knows chemistry, but he can't teach it. I wouldn't recommend him.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2010-01-07

Comments:1301 - I really dont know how I ended up with a C in this class. It was crazy hard! I'm not great at chemistry to begin with but Dr. Young could be a bit confusing to learn from. Unless you have an extensive backround in chemistry, you will probably struggle in his class. My advice to anyone taking the class would be to seek out-of-class tutoring and attend all of the SI sessions. Good Luck.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2009-12-24

Comments:1301 - I GREATLY feared having Young as my professor in Chem before the start of the semester, but he was the only professor I could take. However, I quickly learned that he is a great guy who really cares about his students. While he is unarguably a great person, he's a bad teacher. I rarely, if ever knew what he was saying and never knew how to apply it to practice problems. He was teaching the material, but not in a way that I understood. (For which I take partial responsibility.) However, there were MANY perks to this class. Young didn't start taking attendance until the last couple weeks of class. If you miss less than two classes, you get bonus points. Young had two FANTASTIC SIs (especially Alex) who conducted great reviews of what we should have learned in class. One could frequently hear students leaving SI sessions saying, "I just learned in two hours what I should have learned for the past two weeks." Going to SI was the ONLY way I passed this class, much less with a "B." Another perk is that Young passes out practice exams in class. Some of the questions will be quoted verbatim on the test, while others will have some numbers changed. Alex makes additional practice tests, then works them out so everyone can see how to solve the problems. So long as you memorize how to work the practice tests, you WILL pass this class with a good grade... even an "A" would be possible. Your lowest grade of five 25-question tests throughout the semester will be dropped. The final was fast (only 25 questions) and relatively easy. Even though Young might not be the best teacher, I would say that he has by far the best class for this course!  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2009-12-19

Comments:1302 - He is not a very good professor. He is a nice man, but he lacks teaching skills. He would review examples in class saying they would be similar to the questions on the exam, but the questions on the exam were a lot more difficult. I don't know how I passed. I failed two tests, and I didn't study for the final. I didn't go to SI, maybe that would've helped. He plays favorites.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2009-09-24

Comments:1301 - Goes with comment below... Oh yeah, serious weed-out class. Look around and most of the people in the room will have changed their major within the next 2-3 years. So work hard.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-05-12

Comments:1301 - Does not teach. He talks about college football for the whole class period. But if you are an Ohio State fan, that makes it interesting. His tests are ok, it really depends on if you know chemistry from high school. Read the book. And do the dumb bonus point assignment, no matter how crazy it sounds. Good luck getting in the Royal Order of the Pink Flamingo. Really nice guy.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-05-12

Comments:Chem 1301 - Well, my awesome advisor signed me up for this class summer of my freshman year, i had NO chem background. I told her it was hard for me but she still insisted. IF you are like me, do NOT take young.HOWEVER,** Many people who are excellent at chemistry rave about this man and his teaching skill and how he makes sense. Something very very cool about young is how he took the effort to change my final exam date when my grandfather died days before the exam. He talked to the dept. and everything and got an exception! So i was allowed to go to the funeral. I failed this class terribly but definaltely see how young appeals to some people and respect him.  - Grade In Class:F

Date: 2009-04-30

Comments:1301 - Dr. Young is a terrible professor if you don't have a great chem background like me. Only take him if you have taken more than 1 year of chem in high school. He's a terrible teacher and the only reason I passed this class is because I had a great SI instructor who gave us questions to study that were directly from Dr. Young's previous tests. Get those if you can because he doesn't care if you get them. There's no required homework. A couple of times he gave us review sheets, and he gave us a pop quiz that can only add points to you grade. He gives you a small bonus if you have 0-1 absences. I had 3 and never had any desire to go to class. I don't recommend him at all.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2009-01-07

Comments:1301 - This class was a joke. I took two years of chemistry in high school, and I never studied for his tests, and I got a B every time. I wish I had studied more, because he makes it so easy for you to get a 100 on his tests - he even TELLS you that his old tests are just floating around with other students, and his tests are the exact same every year. Go to SI - it'll help a lot, because going to class is a complete waste of time. In class, Professor Young would talk the whole time, but it was always of so little significance that you didn't really even fully learn it. Luckily, he gives no homework, and he just has his five tests, so the workload is pretty much nothing. I opened my textbook hardly ever, so don't bother buying the $275 brand new one at the bookstore.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-12-29

Comments:1301 - there was no real homework for this class, if you can get a hold of old tests you should because a lot of the questions are the same. Go to SI if possible it definitely helps. Dr Young doesn't answer questions very well so ask another student or the TA.   - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2008-12-27

Comments:1305 - Does not teach!!! if you do not have prior knowledge of chemistry before entering into this class, I suggest switch or attended SI regulary, get a tutor, and go to his office once in a while.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-12-23

Comments:1301 - He basically doesn't teach anything at all. The tests were always 25 multiple choice and easy only if you went to SI. There were no quizzes or homework. But the class was difficult because it was impossible to see where he was going with anything he said. Definitely do not recommend him for 1302.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-12-18

Comments:1301 - Definately a weed-out prof. Definately thought about changing my major after this intro to chem course... however, once I got into the chem II and the two ochems and got A's on all of them, I realized it wasn't my inability to learn chem... it was his inability to teach!!! His notes on the board DO NOT have any sequence to them. His SI's are the reason why people pass this stupid course. TAKE HASSEL, KLAUSMEYER...ANYONE BUT HIM!  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2008-12-10

Comments:1302 - Get old tests and go to SI. There are a few random in class quizzes.   - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2008-11-20

Comments:1302 - One more thing....I didn't learn anything in his class except how to take his tests. Once again, do not take this man for 1302.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2008-11-09

Comments:1302 - I took this class because I'd heard the Dr. Young was such a good teacher. I was in for a huge surprise. Every class day, he would just write equations and work problems on the board WITHOUT giving you any context of what he was working on or why he was doing it. He didn't teach concepts at all. I just took notes faithfully and then would go home and try to figure out what the heck he was teaching. I am a good student (had a 4.0 till his class) and I failed the first two tests. Luckily he drops one of the tests, and offers many bonus problems. If you can't get a hold of old tests (which i couldn't for the first two tests) then you are screwed, to be put simply. The ONLY way I didn't fail this course was because of SI. the two instructors were VERY HELPFUL. Besides the fact that he cannot teach worth a flip, Dr. Young seems Bipolar. One minute in class he's all buddy buddy with the students he likes in his class, and then the next minute he'll be sternly lecturing the class about not reading, or about sleeping. Sometimes within 30 seconds he would go from angelic-trying-to-be-your-best-friend teacher to unprofessional rude, biting, and condescending. I tried hard to like him, but he is simply an awful teacher and mean-natured person. I'm sorry if you were misled by comments on here that he is a good teacher, as I was, and I wish you the best luck. If you still haven't signed up for his class, save yourself a semester of heartache and quickly find a different prof.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2008-11-09

Comments:1302 - Dont let his class fool you. The practice tests are the only way to learn, outside of SI. This class is pretty easy if you go to SI, but if you dont, you cant expect that your grade will be great just based on his teaching alone. Just a word to the wise.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2008-05-21

Comments:1302 - I am not a fan. I hated his tests, in my opinion you had to learn how to take the tests, not actually learn the material. His exams to me were always more of a scale of luck, you got the question right if you had seen it before, and even then he will change one digit, one word, or the units to screw you over. He is very careless and will have questions that make no sense on the exam with incorrect answer choices and still count off. My group proved him wrong on multiple occations. He is just coasting through his tenure and I really feel like he is a very poor teacher that knows he can get away with anything. Just because to some he is funny and random does not hide the fact he can not teach and is senile. I would avoid him at all costs and if you are stuck with him study in advance for his tests and go to the SIs. When a teacher gives such a large grade margin for a C in a class, you know he is even aware of his difficulty.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-05-13

Comments:CHE 1302 - I'm no good at chemistry in the first place. I heard Dr. Young was supposed to be easy and on the first day of class he bragged about how he gives out a ridiculous amount of A's. He gives 4 exams outside of regular class hours. The first 2 have bonus questions and you can make up to like 116. Old tests are probably the best tool for this class. I didn't use them and I barely made it through. He gives 5 pop quizzes which can only give you bonus points, and if you go to class everyday you get 5 bonus points. The class is just so BORING. He tries to be funny, but he's really not. He goes through everything so slow. He hates when people fall asleep. It seems like he's never in his office, but I did catch him on the 3rd try. Overall, if you're good at chemistry, pick this guy. If not, find someone who can actually teach you this stuff.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2008-05-08

Comments:1301 - I struggled hardcore in this class. I put in 12-14 hours studying, and it never seemed to help. When I went to him for help, he gave me the "you're an idiot" stare and basically turned me away. He rarely taught in class - he'd rather crack jokes. Although I will give him this - his reviews were just like the tests and if you can find his previous tests - FIND THEM! They help amazingly!  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2008-04-08

Comments:1301 - Lol all the above comments are accurate. He doesn't teach by concepts, but by examples. Key to doing well: GET HIS OLD TESTS! They guide you to actually learn the material. He's funny too. For a basic class, he's not that bad and the material's not that hard if you put some time into studying his tests. I'd recommend him for taking intro classes.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-03-26

Comments:CHE 1302 - I had Busch for 1301 and made a B+. 1302 was a lot different than 1301 though, 1302 involved a lot more problem solving and for Young's class I felt what helped my grades the most were the old tests. I really recommend trying to get your hands on a recent old test, I think the more recent the tests are, the more similar it will be to the tests in the course. Basically just practice all those problems over and over again and go to SI so you can try to predict what he may try to trick you with on the next exam so you don't end up missing questions because of stupid mistakes.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-10-14

Comments:1302 - I had Pennington (honors) first semester. Compared to him, Young is easy. However, the best way to study for his tests is to get ahold of the old tests, which are incredibly easy to find (just ask around). His grad student even recommends it! As far as learning - I learned how to work problems, but not really understand the material. All in all, learning was okay, the professor is entertaining, and the class fairly easy. If that's what you're going for, then by all means, take Young.   - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-07-20

Comments:1301 - Do not take Dr. Young. His tests have absolutely nothing to do with what he teaches you. He told me the book was wrong when I confronted him about a test question. His practice tests will get you a C at best. In order to get an A or B in this class you must be an athlete or a friend of the family.  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2007-04-20

Comments:1301 - class is extremely boring. make sure you sit in the back & bring other homework or something to work on. very little note taking, but the notes he does give you make sure you write down. GET HIS PREVIOUS TESTS!!! if you do, you can easily make a B in this class. his tests are just like his old one except there are #'s changed. no homework or quizzes. really nice guy.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2007-04-15

Comments:1302 - terrible teacher. he doesn't even teach, just works examples on the board over and over for the entire class. he also has a bad habit of playing favorites...once i went to ask him a question about a test problem, and the girl in front of me was asking the same question...he then marked her answer as correct but told me mine was unreasonable...we had the same answer! very logical. the only good thing is that you can find copies of his old tests, he just changes the numbers around, but sometimes they don't make any sense when he changes them so its not really that much help. he's also pretty rude. overall, i'd recommend anyone else.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2007-01-09

Comments:1302 - This guy and Dr. Hassel are the two easy profs to take here at Baylor for chemistry. I thought the class was a breeze. I hardly studied for any of the exams. Just a heads up, dont dare fall asleep in class. He absolutely hated me because of it, but the class itself is more than doable.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-01-08

Comments:1301 - Dr. Young is not a very good teacher, but I've heard that he is the best chemistry teacher to take. I usually had no idea what he was talking about in class and the only reason I made an A is because I went to every single SI session and Eileen made our lives so much easier. If you can find people with his old tests, make sure you get them because the problems are exactly the same with a few numbers changed around. You have a lot of tests which can balance a bad grade, but make sure you don't do too bad because the final is pretty hard. I guess I can't suggest not taking him, but make sure you have the discipline to learn the material on your own.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-01-01

Comments:1301 - If you have already had chem experience...aka Chem AP Young won't be too bad. If you haven't had any chem in a while, his class might not be so great. He doesn't give you notes, he only works problems in class(which can be good and bad). He has pop quizzes...especially towards the end of the semester but they're not hard at all...they're based on the problems he's just done in class. If you get a hold of his old tests you're good to go b/c they are VERY similar and show you exactly what kinds of problems to expect. You might want to spend some time reading the text though!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-01-01

Comments:1301 - Dr. Young is absolutely, hands down, no questions asked, positively the worst teacher I have ever had to endure. During class, all he does is give examples of problems and give the answers. Don't think that he can do that for an hour and a half? Believe me, he can. For 90 minutes straight he can put example after example after example on the board without explaining how he came to the answer. He teaches no theory whatsoever, so even taking or reading notes is pointless. If you think you understand what's going on, just wait until the test and you'll find out that "that problem was an exception" or "you didn't follow this rule." He never teaches rules, theories, or principles. CHEMISTRY IS IMPOSSIBLE TO LEARN WITHOUT THOSE THINGS! You won't learn a single thing in this class. I am going to have to meet with my next chemistry professor before the semester starts and tell him that I am going to need extra help in the class because I will be so far behind. The only thing good about this class is that you can SOMETIMES get his old tests which are very similar to the tests he will give you. BUT, he will change them up to where the problem doesn't make sense. I would recommend not even taking chemistry if you get stuck with him. It would be better to wait for another teacher during another semester to take this class.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2006-12-31

Comments:1301 - Dr. Young is a funny man but not a good teacher. In fact, he is a BAD teacher. I had copies of his old tests and I went to his office about once or twice a week and still came 1% shy of a C. (Thus my grade of D). He loves athletes and hates everybody else. I started going to his office with my friend who plays football just so I could get him to help me. There may or may not be a good Chem teacher, but Young definitely isn't one of the good ones  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2006-12-15

Comments:1301 - Dr. Young's class is not too difficult. He doesn't like interruptions during class, but is more than willing to answer any questions during his office hours. The SIs were wonderful, and were very helpful. I had a good background in Chemistry and thought that the class was pretty easy. Finding copies of his old tests are very helpful though!  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2006-12-14

Comments:1301 - DO NOT TAKE HIM, he is rude! I asked him a question one day in class and he acts like he doesn't even care about your question. He is not very nice at all and does not curve! The only good thing about his class is his grading scale because the lowest grade for a C is a 65 but other than that he is RUDE! DO NOT TAKE HIM!  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2006-12-14

Comments:1301 - Dr. young is the worst teacher on the planet!!! ten year or not baylor made a terrible choice in hiring this crazy man! he dosent care at all if you do well or even pass his class, he actually cares much more about sports than humans. he tries to trick people up on test... what kind of proff does that??? he actually encourages students to drop his class. DO NOT TAKE HIM! anyone else would be so much better! he is also very unapproachable. If you have no other option, and MUST take this course go to S.I and get the old tests... this is your only hope!  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2006-12-10

Comments:1301 - Dr. Young is impossible!! he teaches this class as if you are a scientific expert! he expects you to know how to do EVERYTHING without being taught at all. he gives a quick run through and how to do a few basic concetps but the test are very detailed and impossible!! not helpful at all and very unavalible. however, if you enjoy talking about football in class every day and learning nothing this is your class. dont take him if you want a high GPA!!! TERRIBLE teacher! the worst ive ever had!!   - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2006-12-10

Comments:CHE 1301 - Basic knowledge of high school chemistry + Old tests = easy A. Nice guy too. Take his class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2006-12-10

Comments:1301 - There is no homework at all. He gave us several chances for extra credit, one of those being just showing up to class. However, he really did not teach us very much at all. I think I learned more by going to the SI sessions for the class than I actually did in the class itself. He also spends a lot of time talking about something and then says that you do not have to know that unless you are going into an upper level chemistry class. So overall I guess it was not horrible, but I would not take his class again.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2006-04-11

Comments:1301 - This man should have gone into something besides chemistry, like PR.... All he talks about are things that have nothing to do with Chemistry. If you play sports then be ready to pampered like you have been your entire life. He used to play baseball, is what i heard, and so he is sports focused. HE IS A HORRIBLE TEACHER AND HAS TRICKY TESTS!!!! DON'T TAKE THIS MAN! YOU'LL REGRET IT!  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1301 - There is absolutly no homework in this class but the man spends the whole hr and a half talking about irrelevent things that do not even pertain to chemistry and when they do, he tells you, "but you don't really need to know that. you will learn that in chem 2." Make sure not to fall asleep though cause he will embarrass you. He can be intimidating unless he knows you well or you are making good grades. I read the book, did all the examples in order to teach myself the course. If you want an easy A, read till you understand, do the examples and get your hands on his old tests. OLD TESTS!! I went looking for them until I found them about half way through the semester which gave me my B+. With old tests and taking time to study this class, it really is an easy A. He gives extra credit and be ready for pop quizes. They really are easy if you are ready for them. He even drops like up to 2 of your lowest exams. It helps to read ahead before his lectures too. I recommend him if you want no homework, have his old tests, and are willing to make the effort to study. This way he is a sure A.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1302 - It could just be the A speaking, but I liked him. He adds huge curves to every test, 12 point curve on the first one I believe, maybe more, which was not even hard. And I think he even curved our final grades. I didn't have the old tests for 3 out of the four of them, but they do help out greatly, make sure you get a copy.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - Terrible teacher...he doesn't explain anything and gives problems that are NOTHING like the concepts given in the book...the only reason I got an A is because I am good at teaching myself and have gotten used to getting moron teachers who can't explain anything...the tests are like his old tests, get those and work them, you'll be fine, but don't expect to learn anything other than how stupid he sounds when makes his jokes...  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Considering the lack of interest most people have in Chemistry he is a very very good professor. He explains things in terms that are very easy to understand and does it slowly enough for everyone to follow along. He cares more about his students than any other teacher I've heard of (knew every club most students were in and frequently talked to them about it). He is so far my favorite prof at Baylor. Feel free to visit him during office hours, he's willing to talk about anything and hes a great guy. I wish he would teach the rest of my classes.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1302 - SUCH A GREAT TEACHER!!! I would recommend him for anyone that is taking this class. His tests are challenging, but he is such an amazing teacher that you can make it through them. He drops the lowest test grade. TAKE HIM IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 and 1302 - I would definately recommend taking Dr. Young. I will admit that he wasn't the greatest at teaching concepts, but in the end it all turned out ok. If you get his OLD TESTS (which he recommends you do) and work them, you will do fine on all of his tests. He gives attendance points and pop quizes that help your grade. He also gives a pretty good curve on your final grade. (I was supposed to make B+ but he curved me up to an A). My word of advice is don't ask any stupid questions, or better yet, don't ask any questions: He had a tendancy to make people feel really stupid. There was also a SI session for his class that helped a lot!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2005-05-06

Comments:1301 - Dr. Young was a decent lecturer, but his tests were killer, I am amazed I pulled off a B in his course. Most of my friends who were in his class are retaking 1301... GET A HOLD OF THE OLD TESTS, I didn't find out about them until the end of the semester, and that really hurt my grade...  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2005-01-12

Comments:1302 - I don't think he is a particularly good teacher, but the class is fairly easy. Like everyone else says, get the old tests and you'll do great. They are almost identical to the new ones. Everyonce in awhile he changes the numbers in the problems, but he rarely changes the wording of them. He can be a bit of a jerk to his students. Its funny as long as it isn't you. Don't fall asleep in his class! He'll give you a lot of crap about it. I'd take him again, though, easy As are important.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2005-01-03

Comments:1301 - Do all the practice tests and go to the SI sessions...they help. He gives lots of extra credit, but can be mean. Don't show up late or leave in the middle of class....he'll call you out! Tests can be tricky, but he'll encourage you alot if you talk to him  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1301 - if you want to do well you are gonna have to do all the practice tests a couple of times before the test and as much work from the book as you can. the tests were fair i thought, you just have to be careful of what he is asking. he is not funny his jokes are not funny, i laugh at him not with him. and he does sometimes make you feel stupid when you ask him a question in class. but im still gonna take him for 1302, hes not that bad  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - He wants you to learn the material, and he expects you to learn it well. A guy with humor that works to make chemistry enjoyable. His tests are very tough but with old tests and lots of studying it can be done. He is there to help you if you need it. Be prepared for a challenge if you take this class, but you can do it.   - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2004-12-15

Comments:CHE 1301 - Dr. Young is an extremely nice man, he makes class entertaining and fun, but he cannot teach. You are left to learn most concepts from the book (which is oftentimes poorly worded and confusing) and learn very little in class. If you don't understand something he makes you feel like it's your fault and that you should understand it, instead of his fault for not describing it well enough.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2004-12-01

Comments:1301 - Not terrible if he's your last choice, but if I were you I would try and avoid him. He's a little on the obscure side when it comes to teaching, but if you have a solid background in HS chem, then 1301 will be a breeze for you.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2004-10-22

Comments:1302 - Dr. Young is a terrible teacher. He actually does not know how to teach. His tests are not like the practice tests. In class he does not explain anything that he is doing on the board. His tests do not reflect whether or not you actaully know the material. He doesn't do anything to help anyone, and could really careless if anyone is doing well. Don't take him. Anyone else is better!!!!He's the worst teacher I've ever had.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2004-05-31

Comments:1302 - His lectures are fairly boring but try to pay attention as best you can. He will give 5 pop quizzes that really help bring up your grade so it helps to know what is going on. The workload is pretty minimal until a couple of days before the test. He hands out a practice test a few class days before the exam and posts the answers next to his office. He recommends you work problems from old tests that you must find yourself, but the are relatively easy to find. The practice exam helps you understand the material, but doesn't reflect the questions on the test. Most of the questions on the old exams will be the exact same question on your exam. Try to get at least two old exams and make sure you can work through them all. If you can do that, you will do well in this class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2004-05-25

Comments:1302 - DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!!! He pretends to be all nice and care, but he's not much help at all if you go talk to him. I did all the practice problems, pract. exam, and old tests, and it still didn't help me. I just made my first failing grade ever and got my A** kicked by that final.   - Grade In Class:F

Date: 2004-05-08

Comments:1302 - All I can say is OLD TESTS. If you take his class get your hands on the old tests. It is not cheatng because the first day of class he recommends it. BUT don't study them word for word because he has a tendency to change them up slightly. Grade--A  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2004-05-04

Comments:1302 - He's a terrible teacher - I can't pay any attention in his class. I thought I had everything understood, I even did all the practice problems and practice exam and looked at old exams, and I still failed. I actually thought I did good till I got my grade back. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:chem 1301 and 1302 - Dr. young is pretty nice, but DOES NOT teach. the only way to do well is to get his old tests, and get more than 1 copy for each test. Dr. Young was really nice to me when i went to his office hours, but i heard he can sometimes be rude to students. Word to the wise: taking dr. young's class will NOT prepare you for MCAT, DAT, etc. chemistry. take him only if you have the self discipline to also study the book material, because if you study just to get an A in his class and dont pay much attn. to the book, you will be clueless come standardized test time.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Chem 1302 - OVERALL, a very POOR professor. He does not teach well. In class, he gives you problems and has you work them, but you have no clue how to work them unless you are a previous Chem SUPER whiz. There is no homework, but his tests take weeks to prepare for. If you get his previous tests from years before, you will pass much more easily -- but get the tests BEFORE signing up for the class, just to make sure you get them. Reading the book and doing the problems and "practice tests" he gives you is pointless. Don't waste your time!!!  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2004-03-10

Comments:1302 - If you get his old tests, you should do okay. BUT, don't rely on the "practice" tests and homework problems he gives you. While they may be helpful in understanding the BOOK, they DO NOT reflect the kinds of questions asked on the exams. I found the exams to be infinitely harder. I studied hard and did well on the practice exams, but got my butt kicked on the real thing. As a professor, I think he tries too hard to be funny and can be a jerk at times.   - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2004-01-11

Comments:1302 - Dr. Young's class lectures are clear and the material is easy to understand-but his tests do not reflect that. SI sessions are helful and if at all possible follow everyone's advice and find old tests. They will at least give you and idea of questions he will ask. Its not impossible without them, but they are a HUGE help. Not much homework, several pop qizzes that don't count against you, and boring lectures. I did well, but I had a great tutor who had old tests.   - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2003-12-17

Comments:Chem II: 1302 - Dr. Young does not teach you and he does not prepare you enough for his tests. He is hard and not many people do well. He talked bad about our class to other professors. Dr. Young try to be nice and funny in class but out of class he doesn't have any time for his students. I felt I have wasted my money for this class and I have to hire a tutor because I don't learn anything from his lectures. DON'T take him!   - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2003-12-01

Comments:1302 - I enjoyed Dr. Young class because I learned much about chemistry. I know many people use his old tests, but I never did and I still got an A. So don't think you have to have the old tests to be successful in his class.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2003-11-23

Comments:1316 - I thought he did fine. Not as good as Pennington, but that may just be a difference in my preference. I did make a 100 on a 1316 exam, but I have never seen a pink flamingo.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:I had Dr. Olson for CHE II first, but had to take it over, due to illness. Dr. Olson was so much easier than Young. I was making a high B in Olson's and when I got into Young's, it was all downhill. I thought Young's tests were hard and I kept trying desperately to catch up and study all the time.

Comments:Dr. Young is easy ONLY IF you can get his old tests. Do not try to take him without them. He is a cool guy but his lectures are boring. He purposely doesn't teach you anything so you could learn the material on your own (from the old tests). But his study guides are also helpful. And he says he has office hours but he's never there.

Comments:I had Dr. Young for lab, and from what I gather he is not nearly as competent as other profs that I have had. I mean, okay, he does make jokes and kids around with his students, but if I wanted to be entertained I'd go to the circus. His lab lectures were really random, he didn't explain much, and he doesn't clarify anything. When "explaining" a problem, he tells you to add this and multiply that, leaving out why you do it and what the numbers mean. Maybe his style just didn't suit me, but for whatever reason I wouldn't recommend him.

Comments:he's an extremely nice guy, funny, sweet...but he didnt explain things well, and i thought his tests were hard. yeah i had his old tests but the questions were never the same. but maybe i didnt look closely enough...i just sorta glanced over them before each test... anyway i NEVER studied for his class and somehow i didn't fail. i recommend him. oh, the pink flamingo thing is annoying for those of us who don't make 100's on everything, you GEEKS.

Comments:EVERYONE told me to get Young. let me just tell you yes he easy...thats because he doesn't teach you anything. sure he's a funny guy but his lectures were soooo BORING! and yes you can get his old test BUT NO they are not the exact same. i got ALL his old test and they helped me but i would have rather been taught by the teacher then trying to learn from the test. ps i got a b. i guess he seems better than all the other though!

Comments:I didn't get much out of his lectures, but if you can get his old tests, you're set for an 'A'.

Comments:I hate this man with an undying passion. I think he is horrible. I passed one of his tests. I think he is the devil. His pink flamingos are gay. He's funny and nice outside of class, but is not helpful and does not work with students who have situations in their personal lives that interfere with his test schedule.

Comments:Dr. Young is hilarious! He makes Chemistry fun for anyone. Anyone can make an A in his class.

Comments:I love his class...and Robbie is awesome!!!! His tests are so easy...i recommend his class!!!!

Comments:Dr. Young is great. He makes the class fun. If you have the old tests you will do great on his tests. Not too much work, and he gives lots of extra credit by having over 100 pt tests. Try to make a 100 so you can be in the Order of the Pink Flamingo!! :)

Comments:Dr. Young is great! See the above comment.

Comments:I have never had a teacher like young before. Personally I think he is a former noZe brother, but that is just a hunch. He makes us all laugh every class and is rarely predictable. As far is the tests and such go, I think he is very fair, he gives a lot of extra credit on the first two tests and less and less as the semester goes by. Tests are a good measure of knowledge AND most EVERYONE has some of his old tests and he uses a lot of questions over again, that's always nice. He also gives study guides and has a SI session with an old student of his named Robbie, he is a lot of help (I love you Robbie)!!
