Comments:Spa 2320 - I recommend this professor to anyone who needs to take SPA2320. It's a lot of work but he pushes you towards an A. He pushes you in the right direction as to what you need to study. -- THE CLASS: You need to do your homework before class, otherwise class will be a complete waste of time. Take notes religiously, especially when he emphasizes something. He never speaks English other than when he needs to convey something that is getting lost in translation to the whole class. -- THE QUIZZES: They are frequent and always pop quizzes. You get quizzed on the lecture from the day before with relatively basic questions and vocab. Make sure to know the vocab because you'll fail every quiz if you don't. -- THE TESTS: Study in advance, he has a review lecture the class period before the test that really helps. If you did your homework, you'll get at least an 80. Again, know the vocab because you will need to use it in your answers. The tests are free response with an essay.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:SPA 2320 - I loved Mr Worley. His class is very predictable and structured, you can expect the same thing almost every day. He only gives quizzes over stories that have already been discussed in class, so even if you don't do your homework on time you can still recover. His tests are the exact same as his quizzes - vocab and short answer - except with an essay. On the essay, he rarely grades for depth/content, only grammar - so be sure to bring a dictionary! Just memorize all the vocab and be ready for very detailed questions. Also, he gives exactly 10 quizzes per semester. Overall, he has a n underrated dry humor and you will come to appreciate him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - I learned more in this one class than in my other 6 years of Spanish classes I've taken. He is the most generous Spanish teacher, in my opinion. He speaks purely in Spanish, but slowly and clearly and will stop to emphasize a point if you do not understand, often translating to English. You NEED to read the stories beforehand. Coming to class prepared is so much more helpful than just sitting there looking stupid. He'll most likely think highly of you if you participate a lot. The quizzes are over the stories gone over in the class period before. Study the vocab and you'll make an easy A. The tests are very specific. Don't just read the notes he gives you on review day, actually re-read each story. That'll guarantee you an 'A'. Vocab is crucial, it doesn't take that long to learn it. Only thing is, we studied over 200 words for one test and only 12 words were actually on it... besides that, he was a fantastic professor, the best decision I've made. I've heard awful things about this class, but it's well worth it. Spanish at Baylor is made to educate you, not just some blow off class. I'd definitely recommend him to any of my friends.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - First, let me say that Dr. Worley is a wonderful professor. That being said, the class requires work. You have to read the stories and listen in class, but if you do that, it will be a breeze. He always explains the stories in detail and he pretty much highlights what you need to know for your tests. He is very helpful and is always available if you have questions, need help, or just plain don't understand anything. He lets you use a spanish/english dictionary a lot, so I suggest you get a good one.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - professor Worley is great. Take him if you can. he makes this difficult class much easier.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2011-05-20

Comments:2320 - Dr. Worley is an awesome professor. Many students are scared to take his class due to rumors that he is difficult. If you read the stories, take notes in class, and study you will do perfectly fine. Dr. Worley is very nice and is always available for extra help. Please do not be afraid to take him! He is a great professor!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2011-05-19

Comments:2320 - Even though I got a C, I would still recommend Dr. Worley as a great Spanish 2320 professor. He does all that he can to help throughout the course. This course is basically reading stories and then analyzing many aspects of them. Dr. Worley does a great job at going into great detail of each story every day. I would have done better in his class if I would have put more effort into it, but got lazy after spring break. From hearing comments from my other friends in 2320 spanish, I would say that he is definitely the best teacher to take!  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2011-05-19

Comments:2320 - Dr. Worley is very helpful! In general this course is challenging, but he makes it much easier. You just read a Story in Spanish for each class, and he talks about it in the next class. There is no homework. You take six simple Quizzes, 3 tests, and a final. You also write two short compositions but you get to correct them and the grade averages. He offers bonus as well. His class really helped me learn spanish better. He speaks in all spanish, but he is willing to explain things in English that you don't understand. he is a VERY helpful teacher and wants his students to succeed. Take him for 2320.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2011-05-19

Comments:2320 - Professor Worley gets a lot of bad ratings because his class is actually challenging. It isn't like most intermediate Spanish classes that students can breeze by. You have to actually work for your grade. That being said, although it is challenging, he is unbelievably helpful and accommodating. You read a story for homework and he literally explains the entire thing in class the next day. Of course, it is in Spanish, however this is an intermediate class so that is expected. He posts summaries in Spanish AND in english online, as well as the answers to the questions in the books. He is always available for questions. He sends worksheet after worksheet to work on grammar outside of class so that you can improve and do better on tests and quizzes. He is a stickler about grammar, but again this is an intermediate class. It's not supposed to be a blowoff class. The only problem is lectures can be kind of boring, but he is very open to suggestions and is willing to change it up and try new things for class. Overall, he was an excellent teacher who was willing to bump my grade of an 89 to an A. He is wonderful. TAKE HIM. DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE STUDENTS HATING ON HIM WHO CONSEQUENTLY GOT TERRIBLE GRADES IN HIS CLASS.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - Dr. Worley is wonderful. The class is great for 2320. There is no homework that you turn in. You have 6 quizes throughout the semester. You know when the dates are in advanced and it is over the reading you discussed in the last class. You have 2 in class compositions of 200 words. You get to use a dictionary. Then there are 3 tests and the final. The tests consist of vocab, short answer, and essays. It's very strait forward. He doesn't count off very hard on grammar. He was always very helpful and kind. He doesn't try to trick you. He also offers bonis for going to charla. He was a great professor and I would recommend him to anyone. He listens to his students suggestions on how to make the class better and does his best to implement them. He's a really sweet professor. Take him!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2320 - Worley is a very helpful teacher. He gives spanish and english summaries of all of the stories that you read. He also posts all of the answers to the questions in the book on blackboard. He is very willing to help his students and does as much as he can to help you understand the stories. Review your grammar and keep up with the vocab and you will be fine. I am not fluent, and did not keep up with all of the readings and made an A. Take Worley!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 2320 - Before I get into this, let me say Worley is a very nice guy. He does a lot to make sure students understand the material. However, he tries to teach the class like an English class that happens to be taught in Spanish. You have to read and do the assignments every day if you want to understand what he’s talking about. If you don’t understand what he’s talking about, then, there’s no point in going to class. The class will be taught almost entirely in Spanish, but that was actually beneficial because it forced me to learn to think in Spanish. He’ll pull test and quiz answers right from the lectures, so take notes (in Spanish, if you can). Quizzes are fairly frequent but aren’t too hard if you read and take notes/pay attention in class. It’s not a blow-off class, though; you’ll need to know your stuff if you want a decent grade. He’s better for native speakers or for those who grew up around a lot of Spanish-speakers. For example, I’ve had 8 years of Spanish class but didn’t speak much Spanish at home, and I found this class incredibly difficult. Probably not a first choice, but he’s not horrible; that said, this class was the reason my GPA dropped so much last semester. I wouldn’t avoid him, but I wouldn’t try to get his class, either.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:2320 - I had a pretty good experience in this class, however it is not for those who can't understand spanish fairly fluently. Most of the class discussions and lectures are in spanish, apart from some instructions. A word to the wise - READ THE STORIES AND PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS. It sounds simple, I know, but I barely scraped by by studying my butt off at the end of the semester and reading and analyzing the literature myself. Most of the quiz/test questions are things he mentions in class, for example "this is ironic because (direct quote from class lecture)". It can be a bit boring at times, and it is a lot of reading, but there are virtually no written homework assignments and (as i discovered) it is possible to pass the class by mostly reading summaries and paying some attention in class. I never really went in for help, so I can't comment on his availability. He also learned spanish in Spain, so he has a pronounced Spanish accent (th instead of c, etc.)  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2011-01-24

Comments:2320 - I've spoken spanish my whole life. I got A's on all the tests with minimal studying except the final because i assumed i knew the material (very bad decision on my part). I made A's and B's on the quizzes, and A's on both compositions.....basically...if you know spanish, and i mean actually have spoken it most of your life, this class is a joke. If you have taken spanish courses in High School, you should be okay. But if you have taken previos spanish courses and still have trouble understanding and speaking spanish...just choose another professor.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2010-12-21

Comments:2320 - Dr. Worley tries to teach this class like an English literature course. He, however, does not have a degree in English. His lack of understanding of basic concepts (like climax and resolution) can get quite frustrating. The homework is reading and answering questions which although is helpful for class discussion, many people got by with just reading English summaries. The tests will kill your grade, no matter how well the quizes go. He isn't the worst option, but I wouldn't make him my first choice.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2010-12-14

Comments:2320 - Spanish Literature was very easy for me since I took 4 years of Spanish in high school. His quizzes are simple, just 3 questions about the story and some vocabulary words. His exams are also pretty easy. He does take off for grammar. I only missed points because of grammar. The exams consist of vocabulary, plot questions, and an essay. Make SURE you answer the questions in the TENSE it is being asked in. I made all A's on every single assignment EXCEPT for the first exam because I answered questions all in the past tense. He also posts all the answers to the book questions on blackboard and he posts summaries of the stories. TAKE HIM! Easy A if you have good understanding of Spanish!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2012-05-18

Comments:3rd Semester - Professor Worley is the worst profesor that I have had at Baylor. Do NOT take him. He will screw you like he screwed me. He purposefully lowered my grade to a D, not due to my grades but due to his opinion. He also gave me a 40 for participation, when I only missed 2 (8am) classes all semester. DO NOT TAKE HIM. HE SHOULD BE FIRED....  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2009-04-15

Comments:2310 - I used to really like Spanish...that all stopped with Dr.Worley. I think Dr.Worley is a really nice guy but not the best prof. He is very willing to help you with anything you don't understand. In class though it is awful and his tests and quizzes require studying. He doe NOT offer extra credit. I know I would have done better with a different professor. oh and yea he does the whole vosotros thing which most other professors do not. I suggest you take 2310 from another professor but like I said he is a nice person.   - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2009-02-24

Comments:2310 - Worley does not deserve to teach at all!!..he is a terrible teacher!..he emails us his lectures and expects us to learn them...then we do the exercies in class...he is a very nice person but he is a really really BAD prof!...on the quizzes he would take off 1 point on each accent you would miss even though you got every answere correct...on the tests(oh god) he would go crazy on you!..he will count off on every little thing he can find...I would spend hours studying for his tests and quizzes and I would barely make B's...his vocab quizzes are even more worse!..we all did so bad on those...one girl fot a 3 on her quiz out of a 100...I usually got 50's b/c he would count off for accents, misspelled words and not putting it in complete sentences!..I am absolutely sure I would have gotten an A if I had taken this class with any other teacher other than this idiot who does not deserve to teach!...He is applying for tenure not...and I really hope he does not get it!!...DONT TAKE HIM!!!!!!(unless you are happy witha a C or below)  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2008-12-20

Comments:2310 - I think Worley's goal is to piss off all of his students in any way possible. No matter how much you deserve an A, he will NOT give it to you. For instance, for the 20 page worksheets for each chapter that are due, if you leave like 2 blank because you dont know the answer, you get a 0 for the entire 20 page assignment. and he REFUSES to help you or compromise. If you ever have a concern or question, he interrupts you and blows you off. He takes off 5-6 points for accent marks. On translation quizzes, you can translate the entire sentence but misspell a word or two and you basically get it wrong. It's hard to ever understand what he is saying with his ridiculous lisp. He will go through the entire semester and never attempt to learn your name. It takes him weeks to grade papers. And he loses a lot of them. The students hate this man and he hates his students. If this is what you want in a spanish "professor," go right ahead. It will be the stupidest decision of your baylor career.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2008-12-17

Comments:2310 - Ok so yea Spanish is hard at Baylor, but Dr Worley made it harder. He spaced out a lot and his lectures we're very disoriented, I would have been very confused if I hadn't already done the reading for the class. If he had a bad day he would take it out on us by making fun of our mistakes and then come in the next time all smiles and acting like nothing ever happened. If you're not a spanish major, you don't usually have a great love for the language and Dr Worley seemed to think everyone should, regardless. I hated his quizzes as you never knew when they we're sometimes every class period or maybe not have one for a week or more. If you had a major test to prep for and you hadn't studied as much as you needed for a quiz you would totally crash and burn. Tests...don't even get me started. They may have been from the book but they were the most obscure of concepts and the weirdest spelled words (he took off points for spelling)!! And we had about 250 words per test and he would only use about 5-8 of them for the test. Tests are also write out, no help is given...and sometimes the directions don't even make sense. So if you need to take this class, and you want someone whose willing to help you out don't take Dr Worley, take Deborah Manzanares, she's amazing, and much better at teaching spanish!! Nice guy but horrible teacher.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-04-11

Comments:2310 - Dr. Worley is an easy teacher. His class is like taking Spanish 1412 all over again. It's basically a review of everything you've learned prior to his class. His tests are extremely easy and his vocab quizzes are even easier. As long as you pay attention during class, and study just a little before the exam, you should do fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-08-27

Comments:2310 - Incredibly boring class and prof. I had just taken 1412 semester before, and so 2310 was almost a complete repeat. Prof doesn't make students use Spanish all the time in class and even speaks English himself sometimes. If you're taking Spanish to become fluent, find a different prof.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2007-06-09

Comments:SPA 1402 - Dr. Worley is very funny and a pleasant person. His lectures are entertaining and pretty straightforward. All homework is graded for completion. Vocabulary quizzes are easy. The hardest part of the tests are the translations. Be sure that you understand the grammar and can apply it.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2006-12-17

Comments:3302 - Great sense of humor, and he'll work with you most of the time. You do have to put in some work for your grade, but Worley is definitely not one of the hardest Spanish teachers at Baylor. You think he's hard, try taking one of the Ortunoz's or Mike Thomas! His daughter comes every once in a while to pick up something, but she's hot and comes and goes quickly. So basically, good guy, but don't take him if you want someone to hold your hand the whole way through!  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2006-10-18

Comments:2320 - Worley isn't a grad student anymore, and his teaching isn't bad. You should read the assignments and come to class as much as possible. If you want an easy way out, this isn't the class to take. I enjoyed his sense of humor, and he is flexible if you need to meet with him outside of class. The key is to ask him for help. I think a lot of people probably misjudge him, because they didn't learn well in their other classes.. but this isn't a grammar course, so you should have learned grammar previously. You can usually scan the readings and easily find the answers to homework. There's a quiz about once a week to once every other week, but the vocab on them is a breeze if you study it. I definitely learned a lot in this class and wouldn't mind taking Worley again! Just be respectful and show him you're trying. :-)  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2006-10-18

Comments:2320 - Don't take this class unless you have a perfect grasp of Spanish grammar, as Worley takes off major points for any errors on the tests, which are significantly writing-based. The readings aren't too bad, and the homework is graded for completion, but the lectures can get boring. Don't skip class, either, because the quizzes can kill you if you miss one. There's an oral exam at the end of the year that's a complete joke, it's literally like he asks you 2 questions about a story. But anyway, I wouldn't take this class again. It's really hard to make an A unless you're really good with grammar and never forget a preposition or a verb conjugation.   - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2006-05-22

Comments:SPA 2320 - Class got to be extremely monotonous, as all we ever did was talk about the story assigned to be read. The discussions themselves were so structured in that he went over the same "preguntas narratologicas" every day for each story. Tests were easy if you studied the stories and vocabulary. They basically consisted of questions cut and pasted from homework assignments and vocab at the end of the stories(you have to translate english words to spanish--not vice versa). The final exam was all questions right from the tests. The 2 compositions were relatively easy if you prepared for them, and the oral exam was an absolute joke. Basically, if you have a handle on spanish grammar, there's no reason you shouldn't get an A if you put in the time to do the work and study. Worley's a nice guy, and his class is a breeze once you get the hang of it.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2006-01-03

Comments:2320 - This class is not for lazy people who want an easy way out. He is a good teacher, but you have to be responsible with your work. It isn't his job to teach you grammar that you should have learned in previous years. If you're not too good in your grammar, my suggestion is that you not take this class yet. This is not a very hard class if you study. The environment is very pleasant, and Mr. Worley always has a great sense of humor, which provides comedy when needed. This was a fun learning experience for me, and was also my first Spanish literature course.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2005-11-18

Comments:SPA 2320 - He is a grad student too. His class is the same thing everyday...He goes over the story read from the previous night, and has you do "preguntas narratologicas" in class. Though there is homework everynight and you turn it in for a grade, it is just completion. His tests are fairly easy, just know the vocab from each story and the basic theme in each story. Attendance is part of your grade and there are lots of pop quizes, so I wouldn't miss class if I were you. Overall, he is an easy teacher and it's really easy to get an A in the class  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2005-11-17

Comments:He is a nice guy. He really helped me out when I needed it. He is funny, but his tests are hard. Especially the final, but spanish is just hard at Baylor. If you have to take it at Baylor, take Worley. But if you can take it at summer school at a junior college.

Comments:I had him for both beginner level Spanishes, and all I can say is that he is one tough cookie. It is easy to get around the Dentinos videos and the workbook because he does not take them seriously. LOTS of work, lots of quizzes, and NO NO NO extra credit. Tests are hard, final is a KILLER, and about a quiz a week on vocab. which he says out loud and you write the word in spanish. I say don't take spanish! Take Swahili with Houser!! It rocks.
