Comments:1408/1409 - I took Vasut for both 1408/1409, not my best decision. He doesn't teach very well, you definitely have to put in the time to teach yourself everything so beware if you take it with an ochem, h-phys or any other hard, time-consuming class. There are 4 exams plus a final, there are no drops, but you can retake any of the exams (except the final). He also doesn't give you back your final grade, so you don't know what you make in the class unless you go to his office, and he won't respond to emails after the final. My best advice is to buy the pearson+ textbook and stay on top of the chapters, watch the videos, and do the misconceptual questions and homework practice problems because he will pull from those on the actual exams. The retake options are pretty difficult, they are all multiple choice, and typically more conceptual than the original exam, he takes the average of the two exams so make sure to study for the retake (you have a week after he gives back the exam grades, which usually only takes him like two days- he is a very fast grader).  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:PHY 1420 - Not a great teacher and you'll end up teaching yourself half the course, but he curves tests quite a bit and offers retakes so getting an A isn't too difficult. Canvas course is also not organized well. I will add that he's a very sweet and caring guy so I'd try to go to his office hours at least once.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1409 - I admire Dr. Vasut's passion and his dedication to ensuring each individual understands a topic. Vasut has 25% of the class cover the lab which gives you great grade buffer and also offers tons of partial credit on exams. Take this guy if you want an A!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2025-11-05

Comments:1408/1409 - Vasut is Awesome! He made the class reallly easy for us. He allowed retakes on the exams which were really easy. I never got below a 93 on any of his test and I hardly studied. He can be blunt sometimes but he really wants you to succeed. I never had trouble understanding he was saying. Take him!!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2025-10-28

Comments:1409 - Not a great teacher. But his retakes save your grade. Literally offers you an opportunity to take an exam 2 times. You're practically chilling if you abuse this. I definitely had to study a bit, but this class is really doable, especially with the Pearson videos and SI.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1408 - He's just not good at teaching. It's hard to keep up during lecture, I basically self-taught myself the material through online videos. The power points are a bit chaotic, and he doesn't record lectures either. Exams are mostly fair, he does not provide equations though-besides on the final. The pros are that he does curve exams which was great and allows retests(the retest score gets averaged with your original exam score). He does not respond to emails well and is not very helpful in office hours either. He's not horrible but I wouldn't recommend him. Total course grade consists of: homework+lab (1/6), 4 exams(each 1/6), and a final (1/6). Also, there are no drops or replacements.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1408 - This class is hard, part of that is because it is physics the other part is because this man put me through hell. The homework is really time consuming, but some of the questions show up on the exams. He has around 2 practice exams per exam, but the questions are nothing like what the actual test is like. The material covered on the practice exams are not from the current unit that you are studying. Half the questions on there are from the previous unit and the other half seem to be from the next unit. He does have a pretty decent curve, but please do not rely on the curve to help you out. Also with the exams he does not drop a test, how ever he does offer a retest and those grades are averaged together. During class I have a hard time following along with what he is talking about. This has led me to just teaching myself physics from the textbook and youtube. He also just goes so fast that even when im locked in I still cant keep up. He does have some in class questions, but he kinda just speeds through them. Overall the only thing that I gained from this class is the desire to become a business major.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2024-12-03

Comments:1430 - DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Dr. Vasut is genuinely the worst professor I have ever had. Classes are very boring and he does not explain things well. Nothing on the homework or exams is ever gone over in class. The homework is nearly impossible if you don't take the time to learn everything on your own. Every time I asked him a question, I left more confused than I was before. Over a third of the class fails each exam after a very large curve. If at all possible DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2024-05-22

Comments:1409 - I think there are many major problems in this class. The most annoying ones were that he never posted the notes unless it was 2 days before the test, we had to memorize 40+ equations on the slides that we don't have access to until three days before the test, and the fact that he didn't put grades in canvas all year. Overall Dr. Vasut is one of those old school teachers that needs to adapt a better class structure. His lectures are basically useless because its him talking about random derivations of equations that you don't need or wild tangents. Also, the notes have very few sample problems and not a lot of explaining the concepts. If you take his class, magnetism and diffraction will be insanely confusing because he has an image on a slide with no words and then will put a test question that he pulled from a random university's practice bank on a topic that I guarantee he never mentioned. Overall the curve is nice though but that's because without it the averages would be sub 60. I averaged an A on my tests where he marked that I missed over 60% of the questions. Nice teacher, very poor class. Also the re-tests are harder than the actual ones and aren't his questions so the style is different and you won't know the concepts on them. Highly recommend avoiding this class because you probably won't learn much from Dr.Vasut and you'll stress out because of his teaching style. If you do, you'll probably need lots of youtube to explain his notes.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PHY 1430 - He is not a very good lecturer, he is very monotone and boring and doesn't explain concepts with enough detail. He doesn't update grades in canvas so you never know what your grade is in the class. He posts previous tests to use as practice and curves his exams pretty heavily. That said it is still very difficult to do well in the class unless you manage to score well above average on his exams  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2024-05-01

Comments:PHY1430 - Not the best, but far from the worst considering the reputation of the Baylor physics department. He has a slight speech impediment (not his fault) which does make him a bit hard to understand sometimes but he does a decent job of explaining the concepts in a general way. That being said, the homework, which is all online, often has nothing to do with the lecture material and is at a much higher level than anything taught in the class itself. He also bases his exams off of the homework questions so they can be quite difficult. He does curve very generously which makes up for the difficulty, but don't expect to actually retain very much physics knowledge from this class. Lab was easy but I wish it was a separate course rather than being lumped into the overall grade.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2024-02-28

Comments:1408 - Take Dr. Vasut for physics! Coming from a premed perspective, he is one of the best options. He is not a great lecturer but the exams would have exact questions from the practice test, homework, and textbook. He also curves everything like 20%. I had never taken physics before, and it is not my thing but because of the curves it was not difficult for me to make an A. If you can read a textbook (not even that much work) and make sure you know how to do homework problems, textbook problems, and the practice test, you will do great. Essentially, all the physics profs are terrible. Dr. Vasut is the best because he curves more than the rest and even offers retests.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2024-01-08

Comments:PHY 1430 - This is SO BAD. Please don't take Vasut (this is a premed's perspective). While the curve is somewhat generous, it doesn't nearly help enough. 4 exams, each worth 15%, final worth another 15%, and lab + HW assignments are worth 15%. He's extremely disorganized and the PPT and notes he posts are useless. You also don't get any equations provided, and the HW is not reflective of the exam at all. Take someone else if you want Physics to not be a nightmare.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2024-12-19

Comments:PHY 1408/9 - Dr. Vasut is the best option for physics at Baylor. He posts practice tests which are extremely representative of the exam and the curves are EXTREMELY generous. It's a 90 for an A, you can retest for every exam (retest grade gets averaged with your original) if it doesn't go well. Only grades are exams, HW, and lab. TAKE VASUT  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2023-04-23

Comments:1408 - Dr. Vasut definitely exceeded my expectations, which were lowered due to the horrendous reputation of the Baylor Physics department. Dr. Vasut is a character in the classroom and will frequently make corny jokes, bring props to class, and pull up physics videos to make his point. His ability to verbally explain his way through a math process leaves something to be desired, so I turned to the book (turns out I didn't need it very much) and Youtube for help. The workload is rough as we used MyPearson for the homeworks(Chegg helps). The lab is a separate issue and I think the TA and the equipment is what mainly affects your experience there. Fortunately, in Dr. Vasut's class, the lab is combined with the homework grade for 1/6th of the total grade, so a bad lab experience won't end a Vasut Physics grade. The tests are hard but Vasut offers a curve so start strong to get a buffer when things get tough later. He gives an equation sheet on the final as well that definitely saved me a question or two. Overall, I get the complaining about the confusion that happens in Vasut's Physics class, but from what I understand my workload, tests, and curves with him were way better than what the Wu students experienced. As such I have no problem taking him for 1409 as well.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2023-01-16

Comments:PHY 1409 - I had Dr. Vasut for an online asynchronous class Spring 2021 and he was a horrible professor. His online lecture videos were not helpful at all and you cannot rely on him to answer your questions through email. His lecture videos, homework, and exam study guides did not help at all and did not reflect what the exam would look like. I managed to get a B+ because of my own self-teaching and through the physics tutoring department. He also rarely never updates canvas and you'll see your final grade on bear web. If he does put in grades on canvas, they can be wrong because for me he put in a completely random score of a 67 on an exam, but I kept emailing him to clarify and my actual exam score was a 90. He's very unreliable and does not care for his students' success. I would not recommend him at all.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2021-05-10

Comments:1409 - Had him for an asynchronous online class. For the love of all that is holy do not take this man's class. He is impossible to understand, the powerpoints are a spliced disaster of publisher stuff and random things that he added in, and he DOES NOT answer emails. I sent him probably 30 emails over the semester and he answered 3. The HW has nothing to do with the exams (most of his questions come from a test bank) and the practice tests do not look anything like them. The average on the exams is usually around a 30% and his curve is never enough to do well. There are questions on the exams that he never covers in class (some not even related to the content) and one exam we had he asked questions from three chapters ahead of where we were. He changes due dates (moves forward) without telling anyone, so most of the class missed several HW assignments and received zeros, even after emailing him. Overall, he just doesn't care about anything and won't help with anything. I couldn't go to office hours because they were during my other classes and when I emailed him to ask if I could come at another time, he ignored me for 6 weeks.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2021-04-14

Comments:PHY 1408 - Don't ask me how I got a B+ because I literally have no idea. I took AP Physics in high school and hated it, and I took it now, and (surprise) I still hate it. Physics just sucks in general unless it's something you genuinely enjoy and find interesting (I am not one of these people). I tried to study and kind of gave up halfway into the semester. I wish he did more practice problems in his videos, but alas, we're on our own. There isn't an SI, which sucks, but there is a group tutor through the tutoring center, and he helped A LOT!! Everything I learned in physics this past semester I learned through my tutor, and that's the only reason I did as well as I did. I hate to be this person, but it's a class you've just got to push through. There's no way around how hard it is. We had weekly quizzes (1 quiz every week over the corresponding chapters), and weekly mastering physics homework. Sometimes he gave double homework for whatever reason, so plan accordingly, they take a while. I think there were 4 tests, all multiple-choice (thank you Jesus), but nonetheless still difficult. I couldn't even tell you whether the tests were more lectures or more textbook because I think the answer is neither. Yeah uh this class is just not a good time. I feel like Mr. Vasut is a really nice guy and I feel bad saying he can't teach because he seems like a sweetheart but... things would be better if he altered his teaching method a bit. There are better teachers you can take, but physics will still screw you over. Good luck  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2021-01-14

Comments:1408 - Nice guy truly but he cannot teach unfortunately. You cant hear him and he has a tendency to mumble important things but man can guy dress.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2021-01-11

Comments:1408 - For anyone reading this, this class is not easy. By the nature of physics, it requires a lot of outside studying in general. I have never gotten any grade of B in a class and I just found this class to be extremely difficult and I would study 10+ hours for each exam. Every exam except for one I failed and the one I didn't fail I got an 87 on. There are very generous curves of like 20-30 points but I feel like I did not get much from this class. I did learn the concepts and I feel like my grade didn't reflect that. The exams were far too difficult and the homework really didn't even help. I would say to make sure you actually understand what's going on in any physics problem you approach and start reading early. The more you understand and the better you understand lecture, the better you will do when it comes to the test. Understand the homework problems and work problems in the book until you understand them. Understand conceptually what is going on instead of trying to memorize equations. You do get an equation sheet for the final but it really didn't help me if we are being honest. Overall, not a terrible class, but is doable if you put in the work and study smart.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1408 - Fall 2020; Asynchronous Class: In case he is offered again for an online class, read the book. I stopped watching his lectures because I understood more coming from the book. He has a speech impediment and the videos made it harder to understand what he was saying. The exams are pretty difficult but he offers retests and there is a decent curve provided. I took AP physics in high school and I still struggled in this class. The shorter semester meant that all the material was squeezed into the semester making it difficult to keep up with it all which includes having time to study for the exams and actually finishing the homework. There is no equation sheet for exams, which again stunk because there was so much material in a short amount of time. For some reason there was no SI for this class which surprised me, an SI would have been super helpful. I enjoy learning the concepts of physics, its super interesting but this class aint it. Try to take someone else if you can, especially if you struggle with online course work.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2020-11-17

Comments:1420 - This class sucked. While I know the material is hard no matter what, he was not a good lecturer. He doesn't post his powerpoints online and his lectures are not even really worth going to. He's a very nice guy, but a horrible teacher. He tends to just tell you the physics instead of teaching you. He gives make up exams, but his exams are very difficult and you cannot use an equation sheet. He gives practice tests and those CAN be helpful. For each test I would do pretty much every example problem in the book and that really didn't help. I'd like to think I'm pretty smart, but this class did me dirty. Take Hall.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2019-12-16

Comments:1408 - Vasut is a great choice for physics 1408! His tests are doable and really easy to get a B on. His practice tests are really helpful for studying and he does fun demonstrations in class. He does have a lisp, but I promise you will get used to it and be able to understand him pretty quick! He does put some tricky conceptual questions on his tests, but as long as you are reading the chapters and doing the practice tests you should be able to get a B in the class easily. For the final he gave us a formula sheet so we didn't have to rememorize every formula from the past units. While he isn't the most helpful or available professor, he is still a great choice for a not so fun class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2019-04-29

Comments:1430 - Vasut, although not a great lecturer, gave very doable tests. His curves are great and he allows you to retest on every exam besides the final. Just skim the book and do the 3 practice tests he gives and you'll be fine. Take over Olafsen!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2018-12-11

Comments:1405 - Please save yourself the stress and do not take Vasut. He is a nice professor, but his teaching ability not helpful because he assumes you already understand and have mastered physics. His tests have some multiple choice questions A-H or A-L, making even the "easy" problems far more difficult. He assigns incredibly difficult problems on the HW so even the grad student tutors either cannot do them or it takes too long to work the problems out. Also, the HW is online so you can have the right answer expressed wrong and fail the HW. His tests take the hardest problems from the HW, which even Chegg struggles to explain. The only redeeming factor in this course is everyone fails the tests so the curve is huge. Vasut also goes through 1-2 chapters of material a lesson so be prepared to go incredibly fast through the lectures. Also, he does not explain what the variables mean so the letters do not make sense unless you read ahead. This is the hardest B+ I've ever had and I took physics in high school and am a STEM major.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2018-03-12

Comments:1408 - Dr. Vasut is awful!! DO NOT TAKE HIM. wait for a good professor to take physics. I had a B+ the entire semester and after the final (average was a 30% w/o his curve) he gave me a D. His practice tests have incorrect answer keys. I've asked to go into office hours countless times and he is either never there, doesn't reply, or says he's not available. He does practice problems wrong in class and when asked about it he says "well what do you want me to do about it?" His speech impediment is not the problem, it's his teaching ability. He doesn't actually teach anything, you have to teach it yourself through the book and MasteringPhysics. No one I knew in the class got above a C.  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2017-12-18

Comments:1430 Physics 2 - Dr. Vasut is not a great professor, but I feel like a lot of the negative reviews on here are mainly because of his lisp and because the course is challenging. He's actually a nice guy and a pretty decent lecturer once you get used to the lisp. His tests are pretty tough and he doesn't give a formula sheet, but he normally gives a pretty big curve. Overall I thought it was a pretty manageable course.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2017-05-06

Comments:1408 - I took this class over the summer. From high school physics, I was aware that I was bad at physics. Reading Dr. Vasut's reviews did not give me any comfort or reassurance that I would do well. After taking the class, I can say that Dr. Vasut's class is doable. Contrary to popular belief, he is actually a good professor, showing demonstrations in class and explaining material that can be reviewed in the textbook. Yes, he has a speech impediment, but it is not that difficult to comprehend as long as you pay attention. In order to ace the tests, I suggest doing all of the practice tests that he posts. Some answers are not given but frequently may be searched on Google. Mastering physics is a pain so get a Chegg account and understand the problems. A 90 and above constitutes as an A. He posts the powerpoints the day before the test as well. You don't get formula sheets except for on the final but you get to use any calculator. I think the reason that physics professors seem to get low ratings is because of the fact that physics itself is a hard subject. The only way to overcome it is to practice, practice, practice.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2016-08-09

Comments:1409 - Even though this is a long review, it'll be worth the read. Trust me. Don't take him. First, I got an A-, not an A to clarify. The only reason I took him was because in the spring semester when I took the class, the only good teacher, Kinslow, was taken, and I read that he gives curves. Sure he gives curves, but it doesn't matter when the questions he asks ARE IRRELEVANT. For example, one of his questions was "Who came up with a theory of gravity that would allow for light to be affected by it?" The answer was Einstein. Another question was "What experiment gave evidence to the theory that matter has waves?" Answer was electron diffraction experiment. These pedantic questions are ultimately just there to make sure you read the book. Consequently, you have to actually read the physics textbook for minor details so that your test grade doesn't get messed up. He also doesn't provide answers to test questions in person or online. The only thing he does is answer the ones people ask him to answer in class, and even that's not enough because he only designates like five minutes to this, because he has to teach for the remainder of the time. His practice tests online even have wrong answers sometimes. And when he teaches, he literally teaches everything in the book, even the sections that have asterisks next to them, which denote that they are extra material. What's worse is that he essentially teaches us these things so that we may have an overview of everything, but does not emphasize on whether or not these concepts will be on the test, so we still have to study them on our own no matter how much he went over them in class. He's also pretty irresponsible because on one of the questions on mastering that he was supposed to grade, he didn't. He didn't even have a reliable website or anything. Just a Canvas on which all he posted were his powerpoints. To this day, we don't even know the grades we made on his final. Wouldn't be surprised if he didn't even grade them. He also is lazy because as I was explaining to him my work on a specific problem that he took off too many points on, he said that since he couldn't follow it (read: he was too lazy to even attempt to understand it when he was grading), and when I offered to walk him through it so that I could get the points that I deserved he said no. And if you go to him during office hours, he doesn't really explain stuff well, and you can't really read his chicken-scratch handwriting that he writes on, say, your test when he tries to explain things. Finally, his class is set up in a stupid way. An A is a 92-100, and he doesn't drop a test, so I didn't get an A in his class despite my mainly high A test scores because of a stupid 78 on one test. OH YEAH ONE OTHER THING. He allows you to retake tests, but doesn't tell you that the retake is HARDER AND LONGER THAN THE ORIGINAL. If you get lower on the retake, too bad for you. He doesn't care, but lucky for us he averages the two test scores. 10/10 would...NOT TAKE AGAIN  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2015-05-18

Comments:PHY1409 - Do not take this class. His lectures are SUPER boring except for the random meme he might show us. He talks SUPER fast and have a really bad speech impediment. I could not understand anything he said at all and I had to teach myself how to do everything. You have to memorize TONS of equations w/o formula sheets for each exam. The only reason I passed this class was because of his curve.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2015-05-09

Comments:PHY 1408 and 1409 - Hmm, Dr. Vasut. I enjoyed his physics class... he makes class pretty interesting (for physics) and has many cool videos relating to the topics in class. His tests, however, are VERY, VERY difficult. His curve is rather forgiving though, and he is very decent about providing partial credit.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2014-12-16

Comments:1405 - Vasut was an awesome professor. He does have a slight speech impediment but it's not distracting. He is very nice and his class is pretty easy, especially if you remember physics from high school. He curves every test and offers one retest which he curves as well. His class was genuinely interesting, and he made it fun with videos and cool demonstrations. Highly recommended if you need an easy lab science credit.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2014-05-02

Comments:PHY 1430 - I liked Dr. Vasut as a professor. He does have a speech impediment, so I recommend sitting close to the front, but it's not too hard to understand him. He is a pretty good teacher. He just lectures off a powerpoint, but he shows different examples and takes time to explain things. I also thought he was really funny. He made jokes and even used some memes during his lectures once in a while. He did cool demonstrations with magnets and circuits and such which made the class more interesting. His tests are pretty hard but he gives very generous curves. There are a of components to the grade (homework, tutorial, lab in addition to tests and final) so you have some wiggle room if you don't do so well on the tests. He also gives re-tests which people usually do better on (I never took one, but for the students who did, it usually boosted their grade). Physics is hard, but I think Dr. Vasut did a good job of teaching it. I would take his class again.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2014-01-07

Comments:1420 - Dr. Vasut was actually a pretty good teacher. I took him during the summer so it may be different but he let us retake exams if we did bad on them. He was really good about answering emails. He did not tell you when the masteringphysics was due but if you looked online it said right there when it was due. Overall you do have to put effort into the class but that is a given.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2013-07-10

Comments:1405 - This guy is literally the worst freaking teach that I have ever had in my entire life! He cant speak and when he does he sounds like he's slow..... He never tells you when homework is due or posted and you pretty much have to teach yourself everything. JUST DONT DO IT! ITS NOT EASY, FUN, OR ENJOYABLE. HE SUCKS!!!  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2013-03-18

Comments:PHY 1405 - I hated this class. It was SO boring. Dr. Vasut's a nice guy, but I didn't understand much of what was going on. I'm glad it's over.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2012-12-08

Comments:1405 - Dr. Vasut was an average professor. He made the tests for our class very difficult, but curved them a lot and put a significant amount of homework questions on the test. I would definitely recommend learning the homework questions VERY well because you can get a lot of points on the test that way.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2012-05-09

Comments:PHY 1430 (Physics II H) - Has a speech impediment, you get used to it though. Not a great lecturer, uses the phrase "it's pretty self-explanatory" from time to time when it's not, but will answer any question in more detail and is a great helper. MasteringPhysics for every class, three tests and a final, does a weird "tricycle method" that throws you off in lab, but he does some really cool curving things with the grades that make it REALLY easy to end up with a good grade anyway. Nice guy too.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2012-01-02

Comments:1405 - Dr. Vasut is one of the sweetest professors I know.. I'm defiantly NOT good at physics at all...but he did anything he could to help me. True, he does have a speech impediment, and he is not the BEST teacher, but he does anything he can to help. You always have the opportunity to retake the tests, and he EVEN ADDS A CURVE TO THAT! He knows that students taking this course are not majoring in physics, and therefore do not care so much about the class. However, I showed that I put in effort, and did the extra credit (3-5 paper on how something works) and somehow, I got an A. But I did have to read the book in order to actually learn the subject. If you suck at physics, don't take this class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PHY 1430 - Yes, Dr. Vasut may have a speech impediment, but that does not effect his teaching abilities. He is not the best lecturer but an amazing teacher. If you are confused at all, just stop by his office and he is always more than happy to help you out. He skipped a lunch once because he wanted to help me. His class overall is pretty easy. He likes to do what he calls the "Tricycle Method." You go through the entire book (well second half the book) three times, and get tested after each cycle. The first time is a very broad look at each concept, teaching you the basics. Then as you go through it a second and third time you get more and more in-depth. It was daunting at first but became very bearable, and preferred. His tests are not difficult. I only got a B+ because I never did the homework (which is more mastering physics). He curves each test a huge amount of points. My raw test average is about a 60 but with the curve it's about a 91. Huge right... He also curves his final, which is amazing. I would recommend taking him.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1430 Honors - Physics 2 is going to be difficult, no matter who you take. He moves very fast through the material and moves to new topics before you have time to grasp the previous ones. The tricycle method is a little annoying, because it is hard to follow in the book. In the end I felt that it was good, because you do learn the material better and it made studying for the final easier. He is kind of boring, because he teaches almost entirely from powerpoint, but he does throw in some jokes if you're paying attention. The homework is due most nights before class, which isn't too bad. The tests are pretty difficult, but he does give massive curves. He is a very nice guy and I liked that he would bring objects (magnets, lightbulbs, etc.) to class to help you understand the material better. Overall he's not that bad of a professor, but if I could choose again, I would probably try to find a different professor.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:Honors 1430 - Dr. Vasut is a very nice person and has an array of really funny physics jokes. However, his teaching style is limited to simply powerpoint (at least for the honors class) and can get rather boring. For the honors section, he has something called the Tricycle method, in which we go through all of the material basically three times throughout the semester, with each "cycle" being harder than the previous. My main complaint with this method is that it becomes a little difficult to keep track of where you are in the book because you are skipping around so often. As for the tests, they aren't that bad. If you do the homework, read the relevant sections in the book, and go over the powerpoint slides, then you should be fine. Even if you don't do well on an exam, he offers a re-test, in which he takes the average of your re-test grade and your original grade to give you an exam grade for that exam. Because of this, you can actually lose points on your exam if you aren't well prepared for the retest. Overall, with the exception of the tricycle method and Dr. Vasut's mundane teaching style, the class is worth taking only if you are serious about learning physics. Also, Dr. Vasut, as far as I know, only did the tricycle method with the honors class so don't expect to have this if you sign up with him in the regular sections.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1405 - Very boring prof. He really knows the material, but has a hard time communicating it in a way that is comprehensible. The book saved my butt on exams. Overall, ok class, not very interesting guy  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1430 - Comments on this site say he's hard to understand because he has some sort of lisp. He also coughs frequently. I wonder if part of his face/throat is paralyzed, which would explain talking funny and coughing/choking. He can't pronounce "r". I personally was highly distracted by how he said "pwoton" and "electwon" and"equilavent". But besides that, he does show us some really cool physics-related things, such as the website for the Solar Death Ray made of mirrors which burns stuff at the focal point. He showed us various video clips, and brought in one of those chargeballs that make your hair stand up when you touch it, among other demonstrations. I really appreciate when teachers do fun stuff like that, because that's what I remember of the class. I never learn from lecture, I learn from hw, and you get plenty of mastering physics with this. DO IT! he curves ridiculously generously. kids were getting higher than hundreds on some tests. It is good that he uses Powerpoint because his handwriting is terrible.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PHY 1430 - Vasut is a really nice guy, but not the greatest physics teacher. Lectures consist of him going through a powerpoint really quickly and often the slides had some pretty difficult math. As long as you have a good grasp of physics you will be fine. And he does curve tests a lot. Homework load is reasonable and help prepare you for the tests. He is difficult to understand sometimes, but once you get used to it its fine and actually makes the class a little more fun.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PHY 1405 - I took this class after having a really good high school physics teacher and went through it with no problem. Dr. Vasut isn't the greatest Physics teacher, but he's nice and throws in some pretty funny jokes from time to time. There is homewok after every class, but it is only 4-6 multiple choice quetions that can be done in five to ten minutes. The nice part is that the majority of the test questions are directly from the homework. He curves the homework grades and some test grades and also gives 1-4 points on the final grade for writing a paper about how something works. If you have had physics before and are looking for a very easy class and a good grade this is the class to take.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1405 - Vasut is a really easy teacher. He isn't very good at teaching physics, but he makes the class easy. You just do your homework every day and then memorize the answers for the test. He also gives a curve of 15 or 20 points on every test.   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1420 - Vasut is a nice guy but he is not a very good teacher, unless you can learn math from a powerpoint. I think math on a powerpoint is stupid. I learned absolutely nothing in his class. But the good thing is that he curves his tests alot. On every test I got around a 50-60 without the curve. But after I got all B's. This helped me a lot, but I still have not learned a thing in his class. If you want to be able to learn nothing and still get a decent grade, then vasut is the guy for you!   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:PHY 1408 - Very, very nice man. He is always in his office and willing to help. His notes are very helpful and his tests contain some conceptual questions and a lot of free response, but he curves generously.   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2345 - Very Nice Professor.. Probably the nicest professor on campus and He understands that we're not all physics geniuses. For those who really sucks at physics like me, you should really take Doctor Vasut... Yeah he uses Powerpoint and the material is hard to understand, but come on, it's Physics !!! IT's all like that... at least you'll have some laughs and cool demonstrations to look at :) and a better off grade w/ Dr Vasut.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1408 - All he does is read what is on his powerpoint presentations. He NEVER works a problem through to completion and is deathly afraid of ever giving anything resempling an answer. Lastly, with his sthpeach impedimet it is vary hard to understhand thim.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2435 - Physics is a hard subject to learn, but he makes it even harder. This is one of those classes you attend and do some other class's homework in. The only reason you would go to class is because he gives these pop quizzes at the end of each chapter that are pointless because you choose your answer by consulting the class first. You will learn most everything from the book. Become really good friends with your textbook it will do some amazing things. On the test we were not allowed to use calculators which was kind of wierd for a physics class. So the test hardly tested your knowledge of the material because all you needed to do was write down the equation that you would use to solve the problem. Despite my disdain for the class he's a really cool guy. He knows what he's talking about but not very good at teaching it to people that don't know exactly what's going on. All I can is make friends with people in the class and work together with them as much as possible.   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:PHY 2435 - Very good teacher after you get used to his mannerisms (you'll know what I mean). Definitely recommended over your other choice(s). Homework isn't too timeconsuming and tests are fair. His classes are the more interesting ones I've had at Baylor, he can also be funny at times.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1408/1409 - Dr. Vasut is a good man who really tries at what he does. He likes to move quite fast through the chapters, each of which has a homework assignment that takes up a lot of time. Tests are fairly similar to homework questions (excluding one instance) and also have theoretical-type questions that screwed me up. I would suggest getting a Cramster account to help with homework even though they sometimes have wrong answers... it will help you get started on problems.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1408 - The class as a whole isn't that bad. His teaching style did not work for me at all and his homework assignments at times brought me to tears, but if you put in the work you'll get the result you want. Tests aren't that bad, and quizes are a cake walk. Just expect to have to teach yourself and listen in lab as much as possible because the timing for most of the material between the labs and tests is the same.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:PHY 1408 - Great prof. I especially recommend him if you're a visual learner like I am, since he does a lot of in-class demonstrations of physics concepts. Tells corny physics jokes, too. :) Does curve, though not as much as some other sci profs. Always in his office, so try to stop by as often as possible. Don't be scared off by the homework; there's a lot of it, but his tests are easier. Big plus: he puts old tests on blackboard, so download those and do them. Tests are all short answer, show your work. A few in-class quizzes, not too bad. I def want to take him for phy 2.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1401 - Very boring professor that I can't help but fall asleep in his class every single time. His tests are so much easier than the homework problems (which are about 15 problems every night, but are pretty difficult). His powerpoints are very useful, and he always curves tests. The quizzes are easy and you get to share answers with the people around you. He's also helpful, so if you don't understand something, you can go to his office (but sometimes he seems to be rushing for you to get out). Overall, very boring, didn't learn anything in class, easy tests, so have fun teaching yourself physics.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1408 - He has review sessions before the test and he will answer any homework question. He adds a large curve so most everyone passes. There is homework problems due about once a week when he's done talking about the chapter. The tests are reasonable and he gives partial credit. No multiple choice. Unannounced pop quizzes roughly every 2 weeks. Very good powerpoints that sum up the lectures.  - Grade In Class:B
