Comments:CHE 1301 & 1302 - Dr. K is so sweet and funny. He is very smart and knowledgeable in the field as well. There's not much work besides TopHat and Aktiv, which you have to in any other Chem classes, and they do take very long either. As for tests and quizzes, they are pretty straight forward. He usually gives hints on what you should expect to see on the test aka specific types of problems. Most of the FRQ are similar to the ones in the notes. Going to SI definitely helps! The final was a little rougher as they are cumulative, but he did give a huge curve on that. I would totally recommend him if you want a strong foundation for Chem!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Dr. K is overall a good professor. He can be intimidating and his class is definitely one you need to put work into. I practically failed his first exam, but I started going to his office hours and staying on top of the work which boosted by exam to being one that was curved over the 100 mark. The quizzes themselves are HARD. I personally had a more difficult time with them then the exams. However, the extra credit at the end of the semester is a life saver for quiz grades. When he says that his final is HARD he means it. I really did not struggle with exams until his final, but he ended up curving it so that I ended up with an A in the class. Dr. K gets a lot of hate, but he is honestly there to help you learn and you will if you put in the work. Also, he loves to talk about his chickens if you want to get on his good side :)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - I took ap chem in high school and finished with a pretty high grade but no thanks to him. He was a poor teacher in class but was very available to meet with you if you were confused on the material. A lot of my friends really struggled with the way he taught. I thought tests were mostly fair and he curves them a lot. Although, the final was incredibly hard with lots of material we had never learned. It didn’t affect my grade too much but I was so frustrated he screwed us over like that. Not taking again but fine if there’s no other options.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - People will say he's terrible and mean and rude... and they're not fully wrong. He can be a little rude but I think it's kind of funny, I think he thinks it's funny when he is rude. Sooo better to laugh and just move on. Okay, actually review: he is a solid teacher and is so willing to work with you in OH. I was not a fan of OH and didn't start going till 2nd half, but once I did I practically never left. He will explain the hw to you and give you addt'l problems to help in areas you are struggling. And he'll give FRQ's very similar to the ones on the test. Plus, he's actually SO KIND in his OH. Lastly tests, those are kinda hard, like on a scale of 1-10, probably an 8. BUT, he curves well and his final is curved so good. He is fighting for you on that final to maintain or bump you a letter grade.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - I would for sure recommend Dr. K's class. His quizzes are worth a big part of your grade and he gives out extra credit for the quizzes at the end of the semester so it is very doable to get 100% in that category. He does assign ALEKS homework which absolutely sucks but if you just do them you get 100% in that category too. His tests are pretty hard but he curves then A TON including the final. If you take him I recommend sitting in the front because it can sometimes get a little boring and its easy to get distracted sitting in the back. His class is hard but if you just put the time in and go to SI you will be fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Dr. Klausmeyer is a alright professor. He can come off as rude when you need help one on one with him so would not recommend that. Overall though, his lectures are straight forwards and what he teaches is on the exams so it is straightforward. However, the quizzes are literally worth your life and count for a big part of your grade so if you fail those your grade drops fast. Most are just based on what he puts on his notes though so if you study that you’re fine most the time. The ALEKS homework’s will make you want to switch majors though. Like most of that wasn’t even related to what he put on the exams and it was often confusing but manageable. This course is no doubt challenging but if you put in the effort you’ll be fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Kevin was a pretty good professor. He had a lot of content to teach in such a short amount of time, but that is just chemistry in general. The only critique was the length of homework, showing that I spent 28 hours of homework for the class over these short few months. Apparently he has gone down considerably since previous semesters. Overall not a bad teacher just a lot of homework.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301 - This was my first time taking chemistry since high school and I was really nervous about taking it with Dr. K because of his bad ratings. My experience with him has been nothing but positive. What he lectures is what will be on the quizzes and exams, no surprises. He is always available during office hours if you need any extra help or explanation on a concept. While his exams and quizzes are difficult, they are very fair, as I said, what he lectures on are the concepts that will be on the exam. I really enjoyed having him as a professor and will be taking another one of his courses.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 1301 - If you want stress and minimal help this class is for you  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2022-08-29

Comments:Che 1302 - his lectures were informative and covered the subjects but the tests were much much harder and more dense than the lecture material and examples. He gives a LOT of owls which take for ever to do so don't procrastinate on them. The exams take along time so dont expect to have time to double check or even finish sometimes. If you grind out the owls and rewatch lectures and really jam it all in your head and have a good solid understanding, you can do well but this class cost us all alot of uneeded late nights and stress. He is not the nicest and not the most welcoming when it comes to asking question. also comes off as a bit racsit and clearly shoews favoritism towards the blonde sorority girls as opposed to the other black, indian, or asian kids. not a great guy, not the best class, lots of stress, would avoid if possible  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2022-08-03

Comments:CHE 1301/1302 - If you want a class that is an easy A, do not take Dr. K. If you are willing to put in the work and study hard, I cannot express enough how good of a teacher Dr. K is. You are going to have to be willing to put several hours of work into his class each week, but don't let that discourage you because you will get to the end of the semester and not only will it feel super rewarding to have gotten through it, but you WILL know your stuff. I took AP Chem in high school and had no idea what was going on during that class, however some of that same curriculum reappeared in Chem I and II, and I feel as though Dr.K explained chemistry concepts to a degree where they were finally clicking for me. His exams are very hard, but he helps his students out a little bit and curves them generously. He is not warm and fuzzy, but he will prepare you for future pre-med classes! If I was re-entering freshman year, I would retake him in a heartbeat. Best wishes!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:chem 1302 - DO NOT TAKE. WORKLOAD IS INSANE. HORRIBLE GRADER. UNFAIR TESTS. I HAD AN A IN CHEM MY WHOLE LIFE UNTIL HIM. HE IS ALSO VERY RUDE AND JUST NOT A GOOD PERSON. I MISSED A QUIZ BECAUSE I WAS SICK, HE WAS SO MEAN AND RUDE IN HIS RESPONSES LIKE IT WAS MY FAULT. 0/10, FOR YOUR SAKE DO NOT TAKE HIM  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2022-05-05

Comments:1301 - Didn't really have a problem with him at all until it came to the final. He is really funny and I enjoy the effort that he puts into making notes for the class. I actually had an A all semester until I took his final. When he says that his final is hard, he is not joking. It dropped my grade by a lot and his class is the only class that I ended with a B in. The OWL homework assignments will take up A LOT of your time with 10-15 per chapter. My biggest advice is to do them as you go instead of waiting to do them. Overall, he isn't the worst teacher ever and he seems really nice. If you end up with him as your teacher it isn't the end of the world.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2022-01-28

Comments:1301 - He was overall a good teacher. At first, he seems intimidating but after a couple of classes you warm up to him. If you do the OWLs at the same time you are learning the chapters you will do well on the quizzes and exams.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2022-01-10

Comments:1301 - He is so so nice, but at the end of this we are here to get to med school not make friends. I would not take him at all. He is so so smart and funny but not a fair grader at all. Best of luck.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2021-12-30

Comments:1301 - He was a great teacher and knew the material well. He is a kind person, but the workload is impossible. I have fallen behind in other classes because of this class's demands. His exams are pretty difficult. Quizzes destroyed my grade because if you weren't completely on top of everything and mastered every chapter the second he taught it you wouldn't pass the quizzes. I would avoid his class if you can, but again he is a great teacher and teaches the material well. He assigns roughly 10-15 assignments per chapter with about 9 chapters in total. There is a review at the beginning of the semester which is about 20 assignments on top of your chapters.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2021-11-15

Comments:1301 - I have never had such a rude professor in my life! He plays favorites with students right out in the open, and if you aren't a blonde sorority girl good luck catching his attention. He was never in his office on any occasion that I showed up to his SCHEDULED office hours. He also seemed a little hesitant to assist students of color. Did not like him, his class, and I would strongly suggest against taking him especially if you aren't in a sorority (and blonde of course)  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1301/1302 - Dr. Klausmeyer is extremely helpful and truly wants his students to succeed. I failed Chemistry in high school-- the only reason I passed then was because my teacher bumped me from failing to barely passing. I got a 2 on the AP exam. But Klausmeyer truly understands the subject and wants his students to understand too. A lot of students complain about the OWL homework, but they've never really been a problem for me. You only need to complete 85% of the homework to get an A, and they can definitely be completed in a day or two. I feel like I had way more homework in high school Chemistry than I do in Klausmeyer's class. I think compared to other chem professors it's way more, but it's definitely doable and helpful in the long run. The tests and quizzes are generally pretty easy too-- way easier than the homework is (not that the homework is really that hard to begin with). You really only need a basic understanding of the material to get A's on the quizzes and tests, and he never really tries to trick you on anything. He curves the tests a LOT and tries to scare you at the beginning of the year by saying you're not going to do well, but I honestly think that's just to scare students into studying harder. He also gives and extra credit opportunity that let's you add up to 10 points to your quiz grade. I never attended SI sessions for the first semester because the SI instructor was pretty bad, and I still got high A's for both semesters. The final is pretty hard, but I had a high enough A that it didn't really matter how I did on the final. I think the people who struggle most in his class tend to be people who don't show up-- throughout the year, I saw the number of students in class drop a lot. You should definitely try to attend every class, because just reading over his notes is not enough. In class, he explains everything in depth and even adds anecdotes and analogies to make everything easier to understand. And also!! He sometimes references (but does not test) things you'll see in OChem, which would really help introduce you to topics that would be new to everyone if you take OChem next year. Overall, his tests and quizzes are pretty easy (easier than my high school chem, easier than the AP exam, easier than his own homework), keep up with the homework, and show up to class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - I am not going to lie, Professor Klausmeyer's chemistry class is by no means easy. This being said, it is also not impossible to get an A! Going into the semester, I was honestly prepared to get a B in chemistry 1301, especially after reading some of the reviews for Professor Klausmeyer. This being said, I ended up doing well in his class. Professor Klausmeyer creates his own set of notes based off of the textbook chapters and sticks to those when lecturing. The test material came from his own notes. That being said, the exams were quite challenging. The average was usually around a 65% but he ended up curving it to where the average was around a 72%. There were often 3-4 questions of extreme difficulty. I honestly thought his quizzes were much harder than his exams but the extra credit assignment at the end of the semester is very helpful for boosting your quiz average as well as preparing for the final. Personally, I found the final near impossible and did significantly lower than I had on any unit exam during the semester. There is an excessive abundance of owl homework that does not always pertain to test material, but some of it is helpful. Overall, the class was a challenge and may have been easier with a different professor. I 100% think I would have done not as well in this class if I did not have AP chemistry background in high school.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Honestly not a bad professor. He knows what he's talking about very well. He also adds some random things he knows here and there that have nothing to do with the class. He tells you exactly what types of questions will be on the test so they are very easy to study for. Quizzes were not bad as he gave 15 extra credit points for doing an extra 45 problems which were a good thing to use to study for the final. Quizzes total points were about 90 so the 15 extra credit points made it easy to get 100% in that category. Tests however were very hard. Their would be a couple questions that weren't really focused on every time. The final was basically impossible. The biggest problem was the HW. It would take atleast 6 hours to do an entire chapter. If you did the HW however and knew how to do all of it, you would do well on the test. I would recommend him to someone that is naturally pretty good at chem and doesn't mind doing some repetitive work every so often. He lectures were very good. Went right off his own notes. Never looked at the textbook. Solid prof just a lot of work to be done in OWL.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - What a jerk. If you arent a sorority girl do not expect an A. He is very disrespectful to students and seems like he always has something better to do than teach. Good luck finding him in his office. Do not take this guy!!!  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2021-01-11

Comments:1301 - Dr. Klausmeyer is a very challenging professor who assigns a lot of homework, so if you procrastinate a lot, I would advise against taking him. However, he covers all the material in class and goes over example problems for the test. He is very flexible for office hours. The tests are pretty hard, but he usually gives a curve. I would have ended the class with a higher grade if I would have been more proactive with the OWL homeworks. Overall, he is a good professor, just assigns a lot of homework.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2020-12-18

Comments:1301 - CHEM 1301- Dr. Klausmeyer is an amazing and very fair professor. He does a great job explaining the material, and his notes are very helpful, as they basically simplify what the textbook says. The OWLv2 homeworks are by no means excessive, and are excellent for reinforcing what he lectures on in class. You only need to complete 85% of the homework, and he gives you until the end of the semester, so it really isn’t overwhelming unless you wait until the last week of school to start. He is always open to office hours- which are incredibly helpful- and is prompt when responding to emails. He also makes the final a very small chunk of your grade which I really appreciated, as I ended up only needing a 30% on it to end with an A, which really reduces the stress of finals season. He also has an extra credit assignment which boosted my grade up by 4%. If you are willing to put the work in, and dedicate time to studying chemistry, this course is by no means an impossible A. I had absolutely no background in chemistry, but through a lot of effort I was able to get an A, and I think anyone else who puts that effort in should have no trouble doing so either.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-12-09

Comments:CHEM 1301 - This class was so hard. He gives sometimes more than 20 homework assignments PER chapter on OWL. He says you need to do the homework and he means it! Other than calculating in your grade if you don't do it you will be lost for quizzes etc. He goes over-rules and some theories in class but the exams and quizzes are almost 95% all math problems which come only from the homework assignments. There is a quiz per chapter. The exams were hard and the high averages were around 70. I didn't have a good chem background and I suffered in this class. In HS I had all A's. I would not take it again. I guess if you are really good at math/chem problems and you have some previous knowledge of chemistry and are willing to spend an hour a night on homework then you might do okay.  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2020-11-24

Comments:1302 - Dr. Klausmeyer is an okay professor. He gives an excessive amount of Owlv2 homework, which can help sometimes, but at points it does not help for the tests. His tests are 25 multiple choice. The average is around 69-75%. He does curve your test enough to sometimes bring it up an entire letter grade. But the tests are very difficult at times. He does offer extra credit for quizzes with a 45 question packet. It will add 15 points to your quiz grade. Overall, I would not take him again, but he's not a terrible teacher.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-11-18

Comments:1301 - DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! I strongly encourage that you take literally any other professor. Kevin does not know how to teach and he does not try to help his students. His average test grade is around a 60 and he states that this is where he like to keep the average!! He sets the class up for failure. He states that if you get a 60 on a test you are doing great... Plus, there is an excessive amount of homework that is required and it usually is completely different than what he teaches in class. Don't take this class if you have any other option.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2020-11-16

Comments:1301 - Be warned: the class is difficult and the tests are fairly hard. Average for the tests are around a 69-71%. Only 25 MC questions so your grade can drop quickly. He does curve, and teaches a lot of material he does not really test on. There is a LOT of homework, it is overwhelming. He is decent but I will not take him again  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2020-11-07

Comments:1302 - Dr. Klausmeyer is an excellent all around professor. He does an amazing job teaching the material and makes it very easy to understand. Even after we went online for COVID-19, he still did a great job teaching the material in his video lectures. He does give a lot of OWL homework, but if you do a little bit everyday over time, it's no big deal. His tests and final are hard, but he curves a lot. They have always been at least a letter grade worth for me. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-06-10

Comments:1301 - Since I took chemistry in high school this wasn't bad at all. However, I had some friends that had no background that were kind of struggling but if you really work at it, you'll do well. Klausmeyer is almost always available if you have questions on the homework or notes. I really liked how he uploaded his notes in advance so I could familiarize myself with the material ahead of time. HIs tests were pretty difficult, but he puts a nice curve on it. The final is tough and might bring your grade down a bit so be aware of that.Overall a great professor and definitely would recommend!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-06-07

Comments:1302 - Dr. K is a really fantastic professor! He knows so much, and he is always very enthusiastic about the material. Like everyone has alluded to before me in his reviews, the amount of OWLv2 work is very, very heavy. It probably equates to 5-7 hours per week just for the OWLv2. Dr. K has always responded to my emails very quickly, and he is available for office hours as long as you give him times that you can meet. His exams range from easy to hard, but he curves very generously. The in-class quizzes were very doable, but when we moved to online quizzes for COVID-19, they became more difficult. The final was extremely difficult. It is not a joke. However, I highly recommend Dr. K, because he is a fantastic teacher, and despite the difficulty of his exams, he curves accordingly. Take advantage of the extra credit opportunity at the end of the semester. It helps tremendously.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHEM 1301 and 1302 - Professor Klausmeyer is a phenomenal professor and his love for chemistry is evident! Although his lectures are early in the morning, I definitely think his class is worth waking up early for. All homework assignments are done on Cengage OWL and I will warn you in advance that there is ALOT of homework. With that being said though, you pretty much get an unlimited amount of tries to do the assignments and you have up until the day before each test to finish the homework. The homework is an easy 100 as long as you stay on top of it. Although it can be frustrating to have so much HW assignments, they will teach you the content and prepare you for the test. You have a quiz for the end of each chapter, but he will tell you in advance when the quiz will be. They are normally 5 questions each, open ended. There are a total of 3 tests and a cumulative final. Each test covers 2-3 chapters. They are roughly 25 questions each with all multiple choice and about 5 true or false. At the end of the semester he offers a credit assignment which helps you study for the final and give you up to 15 extra points on your quiz grade. Because you do not have a lot of grades for this class, each score you make is very important. I will not lie, the final is difficult but it is a Chem class after all, it won't be easy. All the chem courses are difficult, but I think Klausmeyer makes it worthwhile!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-05-12

Comments:1302 - Dr. Klausmeyer is the professor you want to have if you are taking Chemistry. He is super clear on the details of the subjects that he's teaching. He makes his own notes where he also takes you through the calculation questions he has and he paces it really well so that you won't fall behind during class. Even though he gives a lot of homework on OWLv2, it is really not that bad when you get use to it, and the homework is really helpful when it comes to quizzes and exams. One extra note, if you are taking 1302 he gives a generous curve on the exams, he curves arounds 17 points per exam.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-04-29

Comments:CHE 1301 - Dr. Klausmeyer was an amazing professor and knew what he was doing. This class is not necessarily easy but because he was a good teacher and had everything planned out well, it was very manageable. The entire semester I accepted the fact I was probably gonna end with a B because I would have to do really well on the final to get an A and I didn't really think that would happen. But after the grades were submitted I was shocked to see I finished with an A and I can't help but think that was because Dr. Klausmeyer curved my grade. He is a great professor and a funny guy. I will always recommend him. Take him!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-04-19

Comments:1302 - He's really helpful, and it's easy to follow with his handwritten notes on the canvas. He's test is fair enough to get As and Bs. He also gives out quizzes after each chapter, but if you are doing online hw, you should be fine. BUT speaking of hw.. he gives out A LOT of hw. Even thanksgiving breaks, we had 13 hw due on Black Friday, and I hated it so much. I heard some Professors give out online hw as bonus credit, but it's mandatory in this class. That's the only part that I don't like about this class, which is TOO MUCH online hw. Everything else it's excellent, and he's nice guy  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301/1302 - Dr. K is the best professor I ever had! I am writing this a year after I took him and it still stands true. He is great at explaining the material in a different way than the textbook, he is always available for office hours and is genuinely a nice guy, and the homework prepares you for the exams which give you a good gauge for the exams. He is known for hard tests, but if you pay attention in class, do your homework, and go to SI, you will do great! He even curves every exam, so if you feel like you just had a bad test day, you should be fine! Dr. K also prepared me very well for O Chem. We went over stuff in gen chem with him that many other profs do not, so when it comes back up in O Chem, you already know it! Hands down, best professor ever.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-10-27

Comments:1302 - Dr. K is a great professor and always willing to work with his students. With that being said this is no easy class. Your grade is composed of exams, quizzes, and homework. Dr. K is a professor that is helping to prepare you for other more challenging courses at Baylor, and therefore he assigns a lot of OWL homework (way more than any other Chem professor). The homework also prepares you for quizzes, so be sure to get a head start and a good understanding of the homework before the quiz and you will be okay. Dr. K is quite easy to get a hold to and is always willing and available to work with students that are actively trying to learn. In 1302 he curves every test (including the final) helping students pass. Overall be sure to study hard and go to him when you need help and you should pass the class.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2019-08-15

Comments:1302 - One of the BEST professors at Baylor. He is an excellent teacher and genuinely wants his students to learn. If you have any problems simply go to office hours or ask him after class; he will always help you and won't be condescending or try to belittle you. He does have more HW than other professors, but it is all useful and isn't random busywork. Doing the all the HW is the best preparation for his tests & quizzes. His tests and quizzes are harder than any other professor's, but he clearly tells you what to study. Pay attention in his class, print off and study from his lecture notes (which contain everything you need to know and are very easy to follow), do the HW, and give and effort and you will get an A. Dr. K will tell you what areas are important for future classes. He seems to pride himself in preparing his students for the next wave of classes such as O-Chem. If you are a chem, biochem, or other science major definitely TAKE DR. K! If you are not interested in chem at all and are not STEM major I would probably consider taking a diff professor. He may be considered the hardest professor, but he is fair and (in my biased opinion) the best at teaching the material.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-05-29

Comments:1302 - Dr. K's class was a struggle for me, but not at all because of him. It was a struggle because I'm not math-minded, but having Dr. K as my professor for 1302 meant I was able to get a B instead of a D. He's funny, not too serious, an extremely capable teacher, and an all-around good guy. His tests are hard and you'll have to really work on the OWL homework to do well; I recommend SI and tutoring if at any point you're not 100% positive you've mastered a concept. However, he's just preparing his students for more rigorous courses later on. I probably would've failed with another professor but I got a B with Dr. K, he's a great professor and if you're willing to work I would highly recommend him.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:CHEM 1302 - Kevin K. What a man. He is engaging and tries to be funny, even at 8 AM. I took him for both semesters, and for me, 1302 was way harder. You really need to work on OWL, and definitely study the calculations examples he gives in class. Also watch your sig figs. If I would recommend going to SI for any class, it would be this one. I needed to be beat in the head with titrations, so use SI as a resource. Overall, his tests are kind of hard, and theres always one or two on there that you have no idea where they came from. However, Kev is a nice guy and likes to curve the tests, so you should be okay if you study. Would recommend taking him, he's a great guy!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301/1302 - Dr. Klausmeyer is my favorite professor at Baylor! He is genuinely such a good person and teacher. I never had to open the book, because his lecture notes were really that good. The material is very content + math heavy so it is crucial that you study outside of class!! Cengage sucks BUT it honestly does help if you actually sit down and do the problems instead of looking them up. The quizzes are harder than the tests and the final is BRUTAL. You can definitely get an A if you put in the work. Dr. K is an amazing professor!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2019-02-07

Comments:1301 - Dr K is a decent chemistry professor. He is very knowledgable and can for sure answer any question you have. His lectures are kinda boring but his handwritten notes are pretty good and he will post them on canvas. His tests are crazy hard, and they're only like 20 questions. He gives quizzes over each chapter ut typically he will tell you when they are. At the end of the year he gives a 45 question packet of problems that will give you 15 extra credit points towards your quiz grade - that brought me up 3 percentage points. The worst part of the class though is ALL THE FREAKING OWL V2 HOMEWORK. (the online assignments) It tracks how much time you've spent on each assignment and I logged a total of 132 hours this semester. One of the chapters literally took me 22 hours to complete. The homework does help you understand the material but sometimes its just so much you just do whatever you can to get it done. Dr. Klausemeyer is not the absolute worst professor for Chem 1 but there are for sure much much easier ones out there.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:4302 (Inorganic) - Gosh I love Dr. K. This review is important since it's the first evaluation for Dr. Klausmeyer's inorganic chemistry class, as the course had been taught by Dr. Pennington for the previous 20-something years before he retired. So, we were sort of his guinea pigs. I don't know how he'll structure the class for you future folks, but for us we had three class exams, a cumulative final, regular (ungraded) homework that we had to participate in for 50 points, and that's it. 450 points total. The 3 exams varied a lot in their makeup; the first one was entirely free-response and was really hard, the second was wholly multiple choice and was decently hard, and the third was short-answer and was the easiest. His final also was fairly straightforward. I made a 97 and the class average was a high B, and he ended up curving the course as well so the overall average grade wound up being around an 80%. The material is pretty challenging stuff and some subjects in particular (I'm looking at you Crystal Field Stabilization Energy) really slapped us around at first. Practice and go to class. Say hi to Kev for me.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - His handwritten notes are only semi-helpful and you have to press him to get them before class. His lectures are really dry, and you never work problems in class, so you have to learn pretty much everything through the homework. He's quick to reply through email, so that's great. But his homework assignments are ludicrous, and it's difficult to do as you go through a chapter b/c they skip around, so you have to wait until the chapter is done.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:CHE 1301 - I really struggle with writing Dr. Klausmeyer a bad review, because he is such a nice and approachable person, but man he's merciless on quizzes and exams. I took him 8 am first semester of college, and was not in the slightest bit prepared for taking a real college level class. His quizzes are very hard but he gives EC at the end of the semester to bump quiz grades. The problem with Dr. K is that he goes very fast and there are such limited resources for help over the material (our SI was a joke) that it is very easy to end up in a hole feeling hopeless about your grade. The final is notoriously hard, but by the time I had to take it I had pretty much given up. I would strongly caution first semester freshmen from taking this class as it is a ROUGH welcome to the world of Baylor science. I ended up with a C- in the class and retook it with another prof and got an A. Dr. K is a sweet man but just not worth the hassle unless you are really passionate about combustion reactions.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1302 - Amazing teaching!! There are OWL assignments and a small quiz for every chapter, but he offers bonus for both. Go to class and take notes because his notes and examples are great and are like the problems on his quizzes/exams!!! The exams are not too hard, but if you study and really know the stuff, you'll be fine because he gives a very generous curve on each exam. Go to office hours bc he wants to help you learn and just put in the work.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Pros: He is funny and interesting. He is reasonable and always gives extensions for the homework. Test aren't that bad. (Be good at math if you are going to take him). Cons: Assigns a lot of OWL homework. It doesn't seem like much, but compared to other professors he definitely gives more. Quizzes are VERY tricky.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301 - Dr. K was so great! He genuinely likes to teach and answer questions and gives great handwritten lecture notes. I didn't even use my textbook because his notes covered everything. There was homework for every chapter on the online OWL Chem tool. There was a small quiz for each chapter, 3 exams of multiple choice, and a multiple choice final. He gave soo much bonus!! You could get bonus on the OWL homework by doing an extra set. He also gave bonus to make back the points you missed on quizzes if you completed 40ish questions to prepare for the final which he provides. The tests were not too hard if you made sure to really understand all the notes and their applications. If you don't have a strong high school chemistry base then this class could be a challenge but Dr. K gives really good notes and will work with you!   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 1302 - Dr. K is an excellent lecturer and chemist. His quizzes were never easy, but the fact that they were hard allowed you to gauge how the hard the test problems would be. I received a B in this class, but an A in o chem because Dr. K's rigor prepared me. Looking back you'll be glad you took this class, but when you're in the class you will be stressed.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301 - I love Dr. K. He is such a sweetheart. I'm crap at Chem and if I actually tried I would probably have a better grade in that class. Dr. K loves chemistry and he also gives you formulas on exams. Definitely take him  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1301 and 1302 - Mastering Chemistry in this class will make or break you. It's a pain, but he hates it just as much as the students which makes it more bearable. He's a great lecturer because he follows the book while explaining everything in detail, which makes for more effective studying. You will definitely learn what you need to know even if you come out with a low grade. He makes sure that you're prepared. Also, he loves chemistry which makes the class enjoyable. However, the greatest downfall is that his tests, especially the final, are very difficult. They're doable, but don't go in thinking you can make an easy (or even moderate) A. You have to work at it just to pass. I would recommend him if you're premed and feel confidently in your study habits because you definitely learn your stuff, but if you're just looking for an easy A try to get McGrath.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301 and 1302 - I love Dr. Klausmeyer. I really enjoyed both 1301 and 1302 with him. He has 3-4 test, a quiz after each chapter, and mastering chemistry homework which can be a pain at times. His test are not that hard as long as you study and do your mastering chemistry. He offer extra credit at the end of the semester which can really help your grade. His final is difficult and if you don't study, your grade will be affected. As long as you study, you will be fine in the class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Very difficult class, but it's manageable. He starts off the semester with hand written notes, which I thought was helpful. However, after the first test he started using power points and he barely explained them and didn't really know what to write down, which was not helpful. Anyways, keep up with the mastering chemistry. There are usually two assignments a week. I'd recommend buying Chegg, the answers with explanation are all on there. His 3 chapter tests are hard, but do-able. The final is absolutely ridiculous. The tests are nothing like it, different questions, different material. I managed a B because I passed all the earlier tests. If you do all the mastering chem, finish the extra credit that he offers, and do well on the exams, you can make a B in this class. Other than that, brace for the final. I would recommend taking someone else for chemistry. He does not drop tests or any assignments or quizzes. I will not be taking him for 1302.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:CHE 1301 - I’d just like to begin with the statement that Chemistry is by no means my strongest subject; I hesitantly entered this course (knowing all too well the effort I’d need to put in to achieve a good grade), but I left feeling much more confident in my abilities and I’m genuinely content with my final grade: Compared to other CHE 1301 professors (drawing similarities/differences between Dr. K and the others), Klausmeyer’s class is difficult. Without attending any SI’s, you’ll likely struggle with the material (because he moves at a much faster pace than any other professor) + you do need to attend 10 SI sessions to be eligible to receive the final review, so make sure you go! The due dates of the Mastering Chemistry do not always align with what we’re learning in class and the written quizzes/Learning Catalytics (timed, online quizzes) that he gives at the end of classes do not accurately reflect your knowledge of the material; personally, it was this category in particular that really weighed down my overall grade. However, he did offer one extra credit assignment, due the week of the final exam, which was strictly graded, but equivalent to 10 quiz points. Since the quiz category is only 70 points total, completing this assignment and, most importantly, doing it well, can strongly impact your grade. Klausmeyer’s final is notoriously difficult, by far the hardest examination I took all semester out of any class. To be completely honest, you do need to spend the semester building upon a solid foundation so that you can still take a hit from the final and keep the grade you want. I went into the final feeling confident and holding on with a low A (attended every single SI session, completed every Mastering Chemistry assignment on time, never missed a class, and received one of the highest extra credit scores in my class), but I finished with a B. In closing, Klausmeyer’s overall course will reflect the effort you put in. You will probably learn a fair amount more in his class than other professor’s and you will be better prepared for future Chemistry courses, but, to be frank, your grade will likely not be as high. Despite my B and the fact that I will not be taking him again next semester, I’d recommend him.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:CHE 1301 - He is harder than the other chem 1301 professors. However, he seems genuinely interested in his lectures and he hates the MasteringChem just like we do. You do have to buy an additional $10 quiz service the other classes don't use and his tests are exceptionally harder. I personally wouldn't recommend.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301 - Dr Klausmeyer is a pretty great teacher. I really enjoyed his class and his teaching style. At the beginning of the year he will teach from his own hand written notes which he shares with the students online. From chapter 7 on he will teach from power points which he also shares with the class. I personally liked his written notes better than the power points. I also think that he is better at teaching the earlier chapters than the later ones. The later more conceptual chapters I think he could have explained a little better, but for Chem 1301 I think that he was a pretty great teacher. The Mastering Chem can be excessive but it is very helpful when it comes to learning the material so I think that it was worth it. His tests are super fair and not difficult until you get to the final. The final will be hard and it will not be like his tests. The final has questions much harder than anything I saw all year and if I would have known that I think I would have studied differently. Do not underestimate the final or think that it will be like the other tests because it is not and you really need to study for it. Overall, he is a great professor who really is passionate about Chemistry.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:CHE 1301 - I've had the time to recoup from this class, and now I can give my opinion: this man should be rated higher. What you need to know: The mastering Chem will be the bane of your existence, but it's okay because he hates it too. The department requires Mastering Chem, not him. Style: very organized teaching style, with most of everything being written on the board. Makes for convenient note taking...but get a big note book. Your average 100 page spiral won't do if you want to take >C- notes. The last month or so of the class was power point based. He uploaded the PP so you can print them out and bring them to class. Quizzes: simple, just study what you went over in class. About 10-11 quizzes this. Exams: difficult but not impossible. He often gave a sheet on the first page with possible formulas (but you better know which one to use and how to apply it.) Exams are very application based. Mostly MC. TLDR: I recommend him! He is excitedly knowledgeable, more than reasonable when consulted with questions/steps you are struggling with, and can be easily reached via email. *but he DOES ask that YOU tell HIM when you are available - not the other way around* and the Tutoring center was a great help too.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301 - One of my favorite classes first semester! Dr. Klausmeyer is super straight forward, he writes notes with you on the board then explains them and sticks around for a little after class so you can ask questions. I never opened my textbook (he actually complained about the textbook a lot and how it's stupid) except for some extra practice problems because his exams are generally more math focused than conceptual. There's a quiz over every chapter and quite a bit of MasteringChem, but these really help your grade in the end. He also offers extra credit. His tests weren't too hard, but you definitely need to study for them and he posts a practice test for each one online with an answer key. The final was a lot harder than the tests, but manageable. He returns all the quizzes and exams after they're graded which is really helpful for the final. I would've taken him again for 1302 but he wasn't teaching it this semester.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Honestly, Dr. Klausmeyer is a great lecturer and is very helpful. He does assign much more HW (mastering chem) than any other professor and his final is ridiculous, but he is a very good professor still. I do recommend him to anyone, I should have just tried harder.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:CHE 1301 - Great teacher, interesting lectures. Very straightforward, goes over what you absolutely need to know for the tests. I used mastering chem as a test prep and it helped me a great deal. You will learn a lot if you work hard for an A, he won't just give it to you. I highly recommend him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Dr. Klausmeyer's class is one that requires some work, you should read and take notes on the chapters in the book, do all of the mastering chem, pay attention and take notes in class, attend SI and study and then you'll get an A. First day of class he told us out of the 130+ students only 15 of us would get an A, but it's really not that hard just put in the effort he's a great guy!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Dr. Klausmeyer is a great teacher!!! I highly recommend him for anyone taking chemistry 1301 who actually wants to learn about chemistry. I HATED chemistry before this class, but Klausmeyer made me love it by the end of the semester. His teaching style is extremely thorough and comprehensive and makes chemistry interesting and easy to understand. As long as you make sure you stay on top of the material and actually study, you should find that his tests aren't too hard (I ended up getting a 100 and 105 on 2 of them). If you want to learn chemistry and want a great professor to teach you, take Klausmeyer!!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - i HATED THIS CLASS. He assigns way more mastering chem homework than any other teacher on campus. I honestly gave up a few weeks into the class. Comments:1301 - Professor Klausmeyer is a decent teacher. His lectures aren't the most exciting, but he's a pretty funny guy and manages to make the material somewhat interesting. The first 2 tests are fairly easy, and the second 2 are a bit more difficult. If you go to class, learn as you go along, and make sure you know all the material before test day, you should be fine. He's usually straightforward with what you need to learn for the tests, but his curves are laughable. He told us he was going to curve the first test, and his 'curve' took my test grade from an 84 to an 85. On another test, he said grades were pretty low so to expect a 'pretty big curve'. Brought my test from a 71 to a 74.5. Don't expect much help from him when it comes to grades. You'll get whatever grade you earn in this class.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301 - Dr. Klausmeyer is one of the better chem professors at Baylor. I'm currently in 1302, so i cant say anything about that class yet. 1301 was a breeze. Just do the Mastering Chemistry and you will make at least a B+. He doesn't test over anything he doesn't lecture about. His lectures are clear, concise and to the point. You usually get out 10-15 mins early (Tues, Thurs). The best part about this class is he gives you an equation sheet and the solubility rules for all the tests so there is little to no wrote memorization of equations. As long as you know which formula does what and can plug numbers in you should be fine. Does require a little bit of studying and doing the Mastering Chem of course. But all and all, not very much work compared to other Pre-Med classes.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CHE 1301 - I don't know why Klausmeyer isn't rated as high as other intro Chem profs. He's straightforward in what he expects, and nothing is on a test that you haven't seen in class. Don't buy the book, you won't need it. Klausmeyer is a soft-spoken nice guy who really wants you to succeed (especially if you ask for help). There's a fair amount of difficult masteringchemistry online homework, but if you complete it the tests are a breeze. His tests are mostly multiple choice, and he gives partial credit for the short answer. He's a nice grader. While he's doesn't have the accent of McGrath or Hodson, Klausmeyer is a perfectly adequate teacher that will prepare you better for future chem class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Good professor. This was the first chemistry class i had taken since about my sophomore year in high school (about 2 and a half years) but it wasn't too bad. Homework is mastering chemistry. He gives random quizzes. His lectures pretty much summarized the book. Final is IMPOSSIBLE. I studied for the final like crazy and some of the questions were just impossible. But overall, not too bad. I could've easily made an A if i put in a little more effort for the tests.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1302 - This guy is hard. He is really nice and wants you to do well, but doesn't know how to adequately teach the information. All he does is write problems on the board which he copies from pieces of paper he did them on. If you are not good at math, DO NOT TAKE HIM. Everything in this class is based off math. He literally gives every single MasteringChemistry assignment he possibly can and it takes hours. Do any extra credit he gives you - YOU WILL NEED IT.  - Grade In Class:D

Comments:1301 - I had his 1301 class during the SUMMER. He is really nice and really knows what he is talking about. His final is beyond passible but he curves like no ones business. Because it was summer we weren't required to do mastering chemistry but I did it some just for practice--if the summer mastering chem is the same as the regular than be prepared to spend HOURS doing it. I would only do about 1 problem from each section and it still took 1-2 hours! Overall nice guy, he's very reassuring. I e-mailed him a few days before the final expressing my concern and he was quick to reply and calmed me down well.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1301 - This man makes me so frustrated! I took chem in high school but had a horrible teacher, however I thought I had enough to take this chem one class. I really should have dropped and taken the intro to chem class first because this class is so hard! he has difficult homework and difficult pop quizzes and difficult tests (luckily he curves a little on tests.) Not to mention, I emailed him repeatedly and he would never reply. I went to his office hours 4 times and all times he was never there (every time I emailed in advance to say I was going.) I ended up getting a lot of tutoring in the Success Center, so if you're struggling, stick to that instead of looking to him for help.  - Grade In Class:D

Just remember to write down anything that he says will be on the test. Do the mastering chemistry on time because you can get extra points which can help. If your decent at chemistry you should be able to make a good grade without having to spend a whole lot of time studying.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Che 1301 - I thought Dr. Klausmeyer did a great job teaching this course. He generally goes over the powerpoints in class and posts them up for you go over them yourselves because he tends to speed through them in class. Generally he works out the problems on the board which was rather helpful. He has masteringchemistry homework which required effort and time. Also he has random quizzes! so DO NOT slack off! He usually gives out a quiz after two class period from the finished chapter he covered in class. Tests are rather difficult. Practice exam is not a good representation of the level of difficulty you may encounter. They are usually 3x easier. He does give a generous curve based on the highest score on each test. (i.e. I got a B from a C test, B to an A). His final for CHE 1301 was a national based exam which is practically impossible to pass. There was a HUGE curve for it. Overall I'd recommend Klausmeyer if you want a good professor.... and like chemistry.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Chem I - HAHA This guy is a total joke. I mean seriously there was a point in our class where someone asked him to work out a problem and he was obviously looking at his teacher's guide to do it. Then he messes up adding 2 numbers together. It was the most ridiculous thing ever, and let's just say he completely lost credibility with his students that day. The one good thing about this class is that it's completely easy. I mean he's horrible at teaching, but then again he tests you like he knows he's bad at it. We have random pop quizzes sometimes which are never bad if you know any chemistry at all. The tests are always 20 questions multiple choice. Seriously really easy class. If you want to sleep through a class and still get a decent grade this is it.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Klausmeyer is super-nice, but if you know anything about chemistry, you will be bored to tears. There are homework assignments for about 2/3 of the classes, and they are EXTENSIVE. He doesn't grade every single problem, though, just glances through it, but if you don't at least attempt it you will fail the quizzes. His lectures were 100% from the textbook-provided powerpoints, and he'll also e-mail them to you before class. The tests aren't so bad if you study, but I'd recommend maybe taking a MWF class instead of the TR class I took because 80 minutes was kind of a long time to listen to this guy drone. Going to class was such a chore for me that I didn't know about the last test and it ruined my A.  - Grade In Class:B+

He does teach STRAIGHT from the powerpoint which the book provides so all the information is the same. No need to go to class except for attendance. My only complaint was that we didnt work enough problems in class until after we turned in the homework so I would spend all night rereading the material. He is very nice and as helpful as he can be. Comments:1301 - His lectures are long and boring--and now he teaches right off the powerpoint which is exactly the same information in the book. there's really no point in coming to class except to sign in for attendance. he'll give pop quizzes every now and then at the end of class.. his tests are okay-- but the 2nd one was a nightmare. there was a massive curve on it because more than half the class failed it.. so a 32% was curved to a 65%. he assigns hw that you have to turn in in the beginning of class. busy work. i hate it. he will teach something and say "oh, but you don't need to know that. but you will for 1302." i hated going to the bsb for his class-- it made my semester a horrible living hell. i look forward to biology. i would rather sit through a thousand chapels then go listen to the man talk.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1301 - He is an amazing teacher...Second time taking 1301 and it was waayyy easier than Kuhler..He lectures from powerpoints that come directly out the book, so you always know what to read and whats going to be on the test.. he assigns homework which i loved because it kind of forced me to learn chem and also plays a small role in your grade...he gives quizzes and drops some which also helps your grade...His test were okay...he doesn't focus as much on nonmenclature but rather more calculations...he gives back the test, quizzes and homework so that you always know how you are doing in the class...almost always in his office and very approachable... I wish he was teaching 1302 cause I would definitely take his class again...  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1305 - Good Professor..... Maybe if I actually did some work in his class.. I'll end up with a higher grade... Do well on all his test and you won't have to take finals..... Finals is wayy harder then the normal test.. soo study everything for that... Sit near the bottom if you can so you can hear him better... Take alot of notes.. that's save you for hours of studying... : )   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1301 - He's an awesome prof. Excellent teacher with informative lectures. Do the homework though, it's not a big part of the grade but it will really help on the exams. He offers extra credit. Definitely recommend for 1301.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1302 - Klausmeyer is a very happy professor. He is good at explaining depending on the way he feels that day. He lets students out early and cancels classes sometimes. His tests are fair and a good judge of how you are learning. Watch out for the quizzes because they can really affect your grade and he is a nice guy.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1302 - Dr. Klausmeyer is a very good teacher, and for me made Chem bearable. His HW is for completion only, and the quizzes are very straightforward. His exams require a little bit of studying, but he gives you old test questions for practice and they really, really help. It takes some effort, as all Chem classes do, but overall it is a pretty good one.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Easy class! No homework, don't even need to read the book. For the tests, just study the quizes and notes and you will make an A easy!
