Comments:3310 - Possibly the worst professor at Baylor. He's rarely available during his office hours, and when he is, he offers little to no help. He's an incompetent who can barely teach; most students either rely on the book or go to SI. He basically goes up to the board every class and jots down rubbish. You can actually not attend class at all, and basically read the book/attend SI, and still do decent to well. Also his tests are often worded very weirdly; the hardest questions will be the conceptual ones. This professor should be avoided like the plague, you will hate yourself everyday you attend his classes otherwise.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:FIN 3310 - What more is there really to say about Dyson? You can tell that the guy is pretty smart, he just is a terrible teacher. I guess I'll just break it down by category. Teaching ability - his style was to just sit on his butt the whole class and lean back and write something intangible on the board, and then stand in front of it so that you can't see what he's writing. Availability - he's rarely in his office and when you do manage to catch him he's always on his way out. Also, his responses to emails are never helpful. Helpfulness - if you ask him questions and he is actually available, you may get some decent assistance. Workload - Hardly any out of class assignments. I can't tell if this is a good thing or not, because when you get to the exams you may not know exactly what are going to be on them. My advice if you end up with Dyson is to use the textbook/online resources to teach yourself more outside of class. I learned more from my calculator's how-to pages than I did from Dyson's lectures many times. Ooooh! A positive note about him though. He is funny at times. So at least while you're frustrated with his class you can get a good laugh in every now and then. Good luck.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:Real Estate Finance - The two positive posts on here must be from faculty...no one under the age of 40 uses "--". If you want to experience, first hand, the failure of the tenure system, take this guy. He can't be fired, so it doesn't matter to him how terrible he is, he still gets paid. If you value logic and reasoning, don't take this guy. If you study by doing practice problems and/or reading the textbook, don't take this guy because he won't give you any problems or check figures and the tests have nothing to do with the book. If you like hearing irrelevant stories for an hour then being tested over things you never talked about, take this guy. The only thing good that can come out of this class are the entertaining, smug expressions he makes when someone asks a perfectly normal question about the subject material. If you want to be treated horribly when asking him for help or clarification during his office hours, you should consider taking this guy. If you want to hate your life for an hour every other day for a semester, this is the perfect professor for you.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:4335 - Absolutely the worst teacher at Baylor, without a doubt. It is impossible for a person to care about a class less than this guy. What a waste of time and money. This guy is the professor that makes people drop the RE major. I would suggest not being a RE major simply because of this guy. You have to take him twice. I just with Delaney would step in and teach it all. DYSON - QUIT AND LEAVE.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:RE 4339 - Worst teacher ever. It’s an embarrassment that Baylor would have a teacher of such a low caliber. If you are considering a major in Real Estate, just get a degree in Finance so you don’t have to waste tuition money on this guy.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:RE Investments - I took Dyson for RE Investments and RE Finance. I made an A in investments and a B in finance. My first suggestion would be to always go to class. If you get behind in class its nearly impossible to catch back up. The exams are straight out of class notes and exercises, the book is only a reference to fill in the gaps. Argus isnt terrible, you just have to think it through and follow the case examples. You might not like him if you cant handle sarcasm, he lays it on pretty heavy. And be sure to look at him when someone asks a stupid question, his facial expressions are priceless.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4339 - A terrible professor. He doesn't know how to teach and very unorganized. He gives grades based on if he like you or not. Don't know how did he grade us and I had a B the whole semester and in the end I made a C. He took our final early and canceled our third exam without even an early anouncement. I honestly did not learn anything and it was a terrible semester just because of the professor.   - Grade In Class:C

Comments:RE 4335 - RE4335 and FIN4339 are same class, but I don't know why they divide to different Course Name for the same section, so there will be someone just want to learning REAL ESTATE, when there is other students already know the basic materials. He just have no clue how to teach this course.   - Grade In Class:D

Comments:RE 4335 - He is smart, he just doesn't care to share his knowledge. Horrible professor, he does not have teaching ability. If you ask him a question, he will treat you like Idiot. If you just want to learn something about Real Estate, don't even think about him, unless you want to end up with learning nothing. Some of students even drop class before the first exam. The course is not organized at all and really confusing. I think his syllabus is just for school or dean to review, because he will change works during semester without notify you in advance. Tests are almost impossible (Essay Format), since his reviews are unhelpful at all and he is not going to tell you more detail about tests. Also he will let you asking question at beginning of tests, but no questions will be answer during tests. (UNHELPFUL!!!!If you don't even see the tests, how can you know what question you are going to ask?) Do not even think about to go to his office, because he is not going to answer your questions at all and its wasting your time. Most of Assignment are reading, but even you read the textbook is not going to help you at all. Because Tests are not going to come directly from the Textbook. And in my course, there is a student asks a lot questions, he doesn't answer the question and just make fun of student. And his project, unless you are the REAL ESTATE major, otherwise you don’t even know what you are doing at all. (Because I saw a lot of students talk about it in the end of semester.) He is the easily one of the WORST professor I've ever had. Rude, Unfair and Ineffective style of teaching. And we don’t even have chance to evaluate him, b/c he got a permit to do so. Worst professor ever, There should be something Baylor can do to get him out. (We are here to learning, and if he can’t teach, which waste our time and money.)   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:FIN 3310 - I took this guy for finance 3310 during the summer and basically slept through the whole semester and made a B+. Very easy. I didn't feel like I learned as much as I would during the semester but I could tell it was much easier during the summer.   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:RE 4220/4221 - Great class. One of my favorites at Baylor. Two simple assignments: (1) county records office research, and (2) 2-pg legal research paper on an area of real estate law. Four tests (all multiple choice) and no final. Read before class so you can participate more fully and don't have to cram before tests. If you liked B-Law, you'll probably do well.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:RE 4335 - I disagree with most of the posts below. Yes, some of the financial and Argus software concepts covered in the class are a bit tricky at first, but Dr. Dyson WILL help you if you have sincere and specific questions. The bluebook tests are intimidating, but just use what you know--always write down whatever you can to at lest get partial credit--and you'll be fine. P.S. Actually read the book, and you'll be much better equipped for the tests...and have an easier road to the grade you want.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:4350? - RE FIN & Investments: He knows his stuff. Note transfer skills are..... unapparent to me. Find your own way to take notes from his lecture, fast! Say anything that needs to be said in the allotted time bc I rarely saw him in office w/o an appointment. Tests are out of left field, no quizzes, easy hmk if you do it, book is useless unless you can read this crap. You get a few funny jokes each semester, but DON'T be the dumbass class.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:RE 4220/4221 - Dyson is a jerk. He is very unhelpful and seems like he hates teaching. The class is unorganized and confusing. If your a real estate major you have to take him, and it sucks. He grades hard and is unfair. Avoid him if at all possible.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:real estate investments - I think he is by far one of the worst teachers I have ever had here at Baylor. His tests are ridiculous. He does not teach, he is unfair, and simply just plain rude. Do not take his class unless you have too. For Finance majors, take a different finance elective.   - Grade In Class:C

Comments: - by far the worst teacher at baylor...even my advisor told me we should not be paying professors like him to teach at Baylor.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2008-01-30

Comments:Investments - If you make a habit of asking really stupid questions you may just want to bite your lip in his class because he will make you look like an idiot. I personally think its hilarious but as you see from the other reviews it turns a lot of people the wrong way. I didn't think the material was that difficult and as long as you work to understand it and are good in finance you should do fine.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Law - Dr. Dyson is very smart, so much so he cannot relate to anyone or teach. He lkies being tricky but his tests arnt bad if you study. I studyed the night before and made a b.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:RE LAW - Do not take him unless you have to. Unfortunately most Real estate students must have him twice. He's nice outside of class, but overall he doesn't seem to want to improve his class. It's just a big disappointment. I read the whole book and taught myself everything.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Real Estate Investments - Easily one of the 5 worst teachers I've ever had. Impolite, unfair, ineffective style of teaching, and very complacent with these things. He seems smart, he just doesn't care to share his knowledge. Don't come by his office, waste of your time.  - Grade In Class:B+
