Comments:1307 - YOUR GRADE WILL HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MATERIAL YOU KNOW! dont count on what he says cuz he changes his mind! depending on how he feels!  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2010-05-13

Comments:1307 - DANGER!! DOO NOT! I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HIM!! i have been an A history student all my life and cannot stand this man! he is so nice but such a HORRIBLE teacher!! avoid at all costs!!  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1307 - AVOID at all costs!!! not sure how he has a job to be honest  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1307 - worst teacher at baylor. my grade had absolutely nothing to do with my knowledge of the material.  - Grade In Class:C

Date: 2010-05-06

Comments:1307 - worst teacher i have ever had!! class is pointless. He goes on and on about random topics which are not on the tests. He does a very bad job at explaining what is on the tests and grades EXTREMELY hard. There seems to be no logic in the way he grades and i think that the only way to get an A is to be a great writer and suck up to him in class. AVOID!!!  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2010-04-21

Comments:1307 - While I did end up with a B+ in this class I would never ever EVER in my life recommend it to anyone I liked. He is the most terrible teacher I have ever had. All he does in class is ask you questions about why stuff happened in history and then never gives you the answers, and then expects you to write long essays on it. Ridiculous! This man cannot teach!!! and needs to go back to Britain.   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:4341 - Francis' accent and quirky British ways make him entertaining. Unfortunatley, his courses are not very structured and many of us were left wondering what we were doing. As with all history courses, the A's are in the details; specfic dates, names, and locations are essential to an excellent grade. I wouldn't strongly advocate for you t otake him, but if you did you would be fine if you make an effort.   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:World History - Class was a waste of time and money, did not learn one thing about history. Tests are based of off detailed historical events which are not in the textbook or mentioned in class.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2008-12-11

Comments:1307 - Went to almost every single class, and everything on his tests will not even be mentioned in class. I went to his office before the final and he ingored me for 45 minutes helping other people who were already in there. I know they were there first, but come on ITS FINALS i don't have all day. He obviously plays favorites, and it's funny because no matter how hard i studied, i still got the same grade on every test. he's a funny guy, but very unfair and it's funny because i've never gotten below a B in a history class in my life. Def plays favorites, and I'd honestly like to go back and have another teacher grade my test and see what theyd give me on it. because the idiot next to me seems to way smarter than me when he can't even get the events chronologically right on his tests except get a B. Do not take.   - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:1307 - This is supposed to be a freshman level course, but I don't feel like it was. He grades very hard, rarely giving A's. His tests are defining terms and writing a 4 page essay. He does only take one test grade out of the 2, and you also get to drop all but 5 writing assignments and 5 quizzes. Lectures are just very scattered and he tends to focus on himself a lot. Maybe an easy class if you already know a lot about history.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:World Civ. since 1750 - Francis is a great teacher to say the least. He grades somewhat hard, but he will help you with any of your assignment and explain exactly what he wants. I have him again next semester for an upper-level class. Discussion is a large part of the class, so class is actually fun! Sometimes he gets off topic, but he always keeps the class' interest. I recoment him highly.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1307 - I LOVE DR FRANCIS!!!!! Take him without a doubt! The key his class is good writing ability and to think outside the box. Creative and thoughtful answers are the only way to get an A. You cannot fail his class unless you really try. His teaching style is a but scatterbrained but tolerable. He posts all of his past exams from past years online so you can get a great idea of what will be on your exam. Most of the quizzes and qriting assignments are with a friend so that helps too. This is a very writing intensive class so if you don't like to write, i don't recommend him. My grades started low, but gradually rose as he helped me improve my writing style. The tests are hard and he does grade hard. But he is a superb teacher who will make you see the world differently!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1307 - Going into history, I was worried that the prof I got would be a bore and it would be hard for me to learn in class. Not so with Dr. Francis! First of all he's got this amazing english accent that keeps you listening and second of all he knows what he's talking about. He likes to hear peoples opinions but you have to have a source or valid reason for it. Lectures can kinda go on a tangent but only because he likes class involvement and ppl ask questions that get us really off topic, but he usually gets bak on. a good amount of reading, but he breaks it up for you and as long as u keep up with it ur good. a quiz or writing assignment (1pg) every week usually, but here's the deal: he drops the lowest grades... he does that with tests also. there are 3 tests and if you make an a on one, you dont even have to take the other two. and for the final exam, if you make a better grade on that than ur average currently is, he will take only the final grade. highly recommended!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1307 - He is an extremely interesting fellow and will open up a whole new side of history for you. If you want to make an A though, don't take him because he grades extremely hard! He likes creative thinking on the essays and will hemmorage red ink on them. Just print the notes of balckboard and hope you think of soemthing interesting while writing! I'd say 60% made C's, 10% B's, and maybe one or two made A's...the rest failed. Hes hard, but interesting! consider yourself warned  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:4340 - I took Francis for Tudor/Stuart England andVictorian England. I HATED Tudor/Stuart but LOVED Victorian. His lectures for the first were extremely disorganized and he always asked questions but NEVER gave any answers. Victorian England was AMAZING and had me constantly thinking about the class- even on the weekends! The course load for both was easy except for the research paper. But if you do well on the paper, you can take that grade as your overall grade. Francis is HILARIOUS and also great to know outside of class. I would recommend him for any history class.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:VICTORIAN ENGLAND - great teacher and discussion leader. tests are really hard but if you do good on the paper it'll replace that grade. very interesting teacher--but VERY unorganized lecturer--makes it hard to take notes. great guy, fun class! i recommend it. i learned so much!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1307 - Francis is a cool guy. His lectures aren't very organized but they are interesting anyways. He puts a ton of stuff up on blackboard which is nice. Just print up the lectures before class and use them to take notes. His study guides for the occasional quiz are pretty good. Tests and writing assignments suck because they are all essay. He grades VERY hard, he is very nit-picky. He wants you to think outside the box, which i suppose is good, but he grades very hard. you might think you deserve an A for a writing assignemtn, but get a B or C. Aside from the hard gradeing, Francis is pretty awesome. You do get to choose which tests/essays count, since he only takes your highest. Quite hard to get an 'A'.cool guy, good class  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:HIS 1307 - Francis is my favorite professor. He a great teacher and let me see a whole differnt side of history. He is a very hard professor and grades really hard. He is very helpful and help me get better to recievce an A. You can be failing through the whole course and then what ever you get on your final you get on your grade. Take Francis he great.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1307 - Francis is a crazy british guy...hes very nice and his class is ridiculously unstructured...he hates giving As...but passing and Bs or Cs are very easy to get...you can pretty much pick and choose which assignments and quizzes you want to take because of his grading system...his tests kinda suck b/c there are huge essays...but compared to other history teachers, francis is definately the one to take...he never takes attendance, you could pretty much skip a month of class and still come back and be caught up...take francis for a good time and a good grade!  - Grade In Class:B+
