Comments:CSS1301 - Best teacher to have for Public Speaking! His workload is so manageable if you follow his instructions and rubrics. He goes the extra mile to ensure his students pass.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - It’s hard to think of ways to make my experience in this course better. Richard Edwards seems to be passionate about public speaking and enjoys his opportunity to share his knowledge. This class is extremely low effort apart from the speeches. Even still, when it comes time to give one of your four speeches, they don’t require tons of work. His tests are open note and if you complete his reviews sheets with the textbook it’s basically a guaranteed 100. When it comes to the grading of your speeches it largely depends on the TA you have chosen for your group. I had Caroline Reed and she was fantastic. From what I have heard, it seems like all of the TAs are pretty relaxed with the grading and just want you to learn and grow as a speaker. Additionally, Edwards gave us ample opportunity to earn extra credit. His course evaluation alone is worth 10 points of extra credit, but my semester was able to get 20 points total with the addition of 2 quick surveys to fill out. Even having given 2 pretty bad speeches, my ending grade was above 100. I cannot urge students enough to take this class and bypass online speech options.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CSS 1301 - TAKE THIS CLASS! Edwards was not only an easy teacher, but was also very helpful throughout the semester and a kind man on top of that. If you need a class to take it easy in Edwards is the way to go! There are 5 open-note quizzes throughout the semester, and 4 speeches which are given in a small group and graded by a grad student.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CSS 1302 - This class was very easy. There were four speeches across the semester that you present in small groups with a TA. I wrote all of them the morning they were due and got high A's. There are four online open-book quizzes throughout the semester and all the answers are in the textbook. This class is likely required for graduation, but it is super chill thanks to Dr. Edwards.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - This speech class I went into being nervous about, but it was probably one of the easiest classes I've ever had. Test's were fine, everything straight out of the textbook. Attendance is easy and wasn't ever an issue for me. The public speaking part of this class is done in small groups. The group I had was around six people, so we got done in thirty minutes or less and could leave. There are no classes on Friday, and no class on Wednesday if there is a test that week. Speaking in this class has already helped me transfer over skills onto others. Take this class if possible.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - TAKE EDWARDS! You give a total of 5 speeches, which aren't too hard to score A's on and you present in a small group. There are also module quizzes but they're super easy and you can easily find the answers in your textbook. If you need a speech credit, I would highly recommend him! Make sure you show up to class because you will have attendance quizzes that require a password in class! ABSOLUTELY LOVE HIM!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - Easiest class I have ever taken in my life. All you have to do is read the book and do well on the quizzes. The speeches don't even seem to impact your grade that much. The class itself is kind of useless, so I just use it as a study hall since attendance is required and for a grade. But if you have to take a communications class just take this one  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Very easy. Lectures were completely useless, I would often use them to do homework or even write my speeches. There are 4 online, open-note quizzes of 25 questions that are done on your own time, since he would cancel class on quiz days. Nearly every single answer is found in the online textbook, which is NOT needed and probably findable online. I would recommend taking a few hours early in the semester and writing out all the questions and answers to the quizzes so you have them all in 1 document next to your quiz, instead of scrambling through the textbook during the quiz and running out of time. As for the speeches, there are 4 of them and are all given in a small group setting of about 12 students a TA grader. I’m not sure it matters which TA you choose because I’ve heard they all grade fairly easy and as long as you put in a valiant effort and don’t directly read, you will do fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - His class was very laid back you just attended his lecture and you would have like 4 tests on 4 chapters of the textbook readings. I found a free version of the textbook online just by searching the name and free pdf after so don't bother going to the bookstore to buy or rent it. The tests were done on your own time and with open notes. The day it would be due he would cancel class that day. There were also like 5 speeches and they were super casual in small groups of 10 with one of his ta's. Overall it is impossible to get anything less than an a unless you get screwed with a bad ta that grades your speeches super strictly. He is a super sweet man too and will talk about your grade with you on the last day of class which is optional if you feel a grade should be higher.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Comm 1301 - Equal to a high school speech course in a large lecture hall. It was fine. No real complaints, it’s a relatively easy course if you have experience with Public Speaking. The only annoying parts of the course were outlines, length requirements, and the AI that graded our speech practice, Pitchvantage. Take it or leave it, but it will help you improve if you struggle with public speaking. You speak in small groups with a TA and it’s relatively low pressure.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CSS 1302 - The first words he said in the semester were "This class will change you" or something along the lines of that, but no, it didn't. While professor Edwards is a nice person, he shouldn't be teaching a speech class if his speeches cause me to become drowsy. The assignments were easy but annoying.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CSS 1301 - Take him!! Super nice guy and SUPER easy class. Some people thought his lectures were boring, but I thought they weren't too bad. Regardless though, it was an incredibly easy class with lots of opportunities to make up missed assignments/extra credit. Definitely take him!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - This class was pretty boring but it was easy, so that made it tolerable. Because it is a big class you get put into small speech groups which is where you will be giving your speech. Grad students are the graders of your speech so it is pretty laid back. You have a few exams and he gives you a study guide beforehand that covers everything on the exam. The exams are open notes so you can use the textbook and question sheet. Overall it was an easy class so I would recommend taking Professor Edwards.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2022-05-17

Comments:2302 - This class is super easy. You get into small groups for speeches and the TAs in charge of the speaking groups are pretty chill when it comes to grading. There were a few quizzes over different chapters throughout the semester. He posts the same exact reading questions that are on the quiz. He posts video lectures online for quiz purposes, and they are identical to his lectures in class. People would only go to the lectures for the sole purpose of being counted present for attendance. I would always work on outside work in his class, along with everybody else. I will say that he could have been a little bit less monotone, as he is teaching a communications class. Overall, great professor.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2022-04-25

Comments:1302 - Easy A take him and pick an online speaking group if you can. Literally so easy I cannot stress this enough. No work, I barley ever went to class. TA's grade our speeches so easy. You give your speeches every few weeks in speaking groups of like 10  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - Literally, look at the rest of the comments. They are correct. This class is super easy if you know how to speak.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - I just completed Dr. Edwards' 1302 Fundamentals of Public Communication. The class follows a format of 5 units with one speech and one quiz per unit. The speeches take place outside of the class period within in-person or virtual small groups monitored by a TA. Quizzes are online and open-book and are easy if you take simple notes in class and look up the answers in the book as you go along. The workload is manageable and I only really had to practice my speeches for 3 days max because my TA graded pretty easily. Regarding Dr. Edwards' teaching, you can tell he is genuinely passionate about public speaking. From what I can tell, he cares about his students; he is helpful and understanding if you need to make up a speech. He also gives opportunities for extra credit. Overall, if you have to take this class, you should take it with Dr. Edwards.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2021-12-14

Comments:CSS 1302 - Easy A. I exerted the bare minimum effort in this class and got a 99. All tests are open book, there's only 5 short speeches, and there's a lot of extra credit.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2021-12-12

Comments:1302 - Yeah this was the easiest class i've ever taken. I never went to lecture (granted, attendance is not required at this time due to COVID) and I am going to end the class with a 98/99%. The module quizzes (basically exams) are online open book open note, free 100. I dedicate about 5 minutes to this class every month. Easy easy easy  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2021-11-17

Comments:1302 - The easiest blow off class you will ever take. 4-5 speeches over the whole semester either online or in person with like 6 other people. The only hw ive ever done was about maybe 30 minutes every 3 weeks for the speeches  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2021-11-16

Comments:CSS1302 - The easiest class ever, with a great professor. Professor Edwards is very helpful and responds to emails quickly. The material in the class is so easy. He posted pre-recorded lectures (that are like 5-15 mins) and you really don't even have to go. The guided reading questions are the test. Do those and watch the pre-recorded lectures and you'll get an A on the tests. For the speeches, use the syllabus and do what it says and you'll get an A. If you are taking it M/W/F- we didn't have class this semester on Fridays because we have speech groups other times. SO EASY, TAKE HIM!!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2021-11-15

Comments:1302 - This is probably the easiest class I've ever taken. If you're able to take this course as a hybrid course DO IT! I spent maybe 3 hours per month on this class and finished with a 98. All of the quizzes are open notes and he gives you a very specific reading guide for the textbook/online lectures- I never read the chapters all the way through, just looked for the answers to his questions (these aren't turned in, just to help with the quizzes). You don't need to go into class if you watch the lectures online, typically about 30 minutes worth of recording per unit. One quiz and one speech about every 3 weeks, I always wrote my speeches the night before and never made below a 95. Seriously the easiest class, please take it!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-12-07

Comments:1302 - Dr. Edwards is a great professor! I took his 1302 class in the hybrid format and it was very manageable. All of the course assignments are posted early so you can hypothetically crank out all of the work at the beginning and just submit it as the dates come up. He's very nice and willing to answer any questions!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1302 - This class is so easy! If you have the chance take it with Professor Edwards. Because of the covid-19 pandemic, everything is basically online which makes it very easy. You are allowed to use your notes on the quizzes and the textbook is very straightforward.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-11-19

Comments:1302 - I am currently in Professor Edwards' CSS 1302 class and it is one of my easiest courses. As we are in the COVID-19 pandemic, his set-up is a bit different than other reviews. We have 4 speeches, 5 quizzes, and what seems to be no final exam. The quizzes are straight out of the textbook and his lectures, and he even allowed us to use our notes whilst taking them. There are no trick questions. Edwards does a fantastic job of explaining each speech assignment and broke us up into smaller Zoom groups to give our speeches. Honestly, this is a pretty simple course and you can tell that Edwards is such a genuine, kind guy. Definitely recommend taking him.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:CSS 1302 - I loved Dr. Edwards! He's such a sweet man and an amazing professor. Although his lectures can sometimes get boring, you can tell he knows what he's talking about! The class has 5 speeches, 2 exams, and a final. There's also a discussion portion of your grade along with a website where you can practice your speech for points! He also gives a lot of extra credit! For speech, I'd totally recommend joining a large class! I hate public speaking, but in a big class, you're split up into smaller groups and you get to know those small groups so it's like speaking in front of your friends! Take Edwards!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - Prof was very engaging in lectures and was very helpful outside of class. The workload is virtually nonexistent so long as you keep up with the weekly virtual questions, and the tests are easy to study for. The speeches were performed in a stress-free, small-group, environment. I do believe the grading for speeches depends on the TA you receive for your small group, mine was very lenient. This is a great class for people nervous about performing speeches.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1301 - EASIEST CLASS I\'VE EVER TAKEN! He is so chill, 5 speeches, lots of extra credit, 3 exams, and a final. Super simple. There are points that come from discussion posts every week and also a program called pitch-vantage that helps you practice your speeches. Easy A\'s all around. Join a LARGE class. They will break the class into groups with TA\'s. You meet with the group outside of class for each speech. I took this class during the COVID pandemic so he ended up cancelling exam 2+3 and final. 10/10 recommend. I ended the class with a 99. ALSO the class says MWF but you only meet MW so that\'s great :)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:3305 - This class is 100% doable. Rich is adorable and he’s a kind grader. I can’t recommend this class enough. It’s a relaxed environment and I became a better, more confident speaker because of this class. Rich splits the class into four different speaking groups, so you give a speech one day and the other three days, you listen to the other groups speak. Very low stress class. Highly recommend!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Adv. Public Speaking - THIS MAN SHOULD HAVE A 100! If you follow his examples exactly and give your speech somewhat professionally you will make an A on everything. I had him for intro to Comm as well and he was just as easy there. Don't be intimidated by the Advanced part, the kids in the course were TERRIBLY inappropriate and unprofessional so unless you are one of those kids, you'll be one of the top speakers in the class. Edwards is sweet and wants you to do well. Test is word for word the review, complete that and you'll be good. Also, don't buy the book- google the title followed by PDF and it's free online  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2017-03-12

Comments:1305 - Im honestly confused why he has such a low rating. TAKE HIM. he gives out super easy group projects which requires him to cancel class almost once a week. He gives out WORD FOR WORD reviews for the three exams. They are seriously so easy!!! There is a long paper at the end but he gives you so much time and offers a lot of help it really isn't that bad especially because there is never any homework.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2016-11-17

Comments:1305-Intro to Comm - Dr. Edwards didn't teach very much, but instead assigned many group projects. They aren't very difficult and don't require a lot of prep- basically be able to give a brief overview of your topic and don't look like an idiot. There is one large term paper, but if you do all the prelim work, writing it is simple. Tests are straight from the study guide. He's not all that exciting, but he cares about his students and he wants to help provide a launching point for the rest of your time in the dept.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Speech for business - This was my first class that I took in college and it was great. Dr. Edwards is a really great teacher and really does know what he is talking about. I would recommend taking him if you can. Make sure you do well on your speeches and take advantage of his extra credit opportunities.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:BIC Rhetoric I - Dr. Edwards can be pretty dry, but he's an effective teacher overall. This was his first year to teach in the BIC, but he got the hang of it quickly. As a communications professor serving as an english teacher, Edwards was great at facilitating the in-class speeches you will have to give. He's an easy grader and very patient; do your work and you will be fine.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2010-04-15

Comments:1305 - Research Methods. This course was BORING, but Edwards makes it as good as he can. He is SO smart and really helpful. I turned in my research paper early, and he completely edited it, and even looked up some of the facts that I needed to add! All I had to do is type them in when I got my rough draft back. I hated the actual class, but looking back, I learned alot and his class helped me in alot of other writing classes across campus. Edwards is a good guy. Just go see him if you need help, and he'll gladly give it.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-02-20

Comments:CSS 1304 - This class is simple. You speak often, which serves the purpose of the class. He is helpful in suggesting parts of your speech that can be improved. Overall, the class is plain and simple. No surprises.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2008-03-06

Comments:Independent Study - Dr. Edwards is a great man. He may come across a little harsh, but he knows his stuff! He is one of those people that is too smart for his own good and loves to learn. I personally enjoy that in a professor. He is helpful with research and not impossible in class. I have had him for three courses and I am taking him again next semester.   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:CSS 3308 - The class was pretty easy. Tests straight from review material, and he's not very hard on grading for the speeches. No problems here.  - Grade In Class:B
