Comments:AST 4388 (ch soc/cul) - Good prof and very helpful. Lots of discussion (most classes are just discussion-based and participation is graded). Lots of reading, too. Short answer reading quizzes before most classes (online on Canvas). You have to facilitate two discussions during the semester, do like 5 discussion posts, write a 10-12 page term paper on any topic related to the course (he has deadlines for prospectus, outline, etc.) and if you write 2 pages per week you'll get that amount of points extra credit (up to 10). He's a pretty chill grader, though. Midterm and final are multiple choice, short answer, and essay questions which isn't fun but a lot of the questions are the same as the quizzes and he tells you essay prompts beforehand. If you prep you'll do fine. The course topics are actually really interesting. The first half is history and economic stuff which may be boring but second half goes into specific topics like technology, youth, environment, etc. If you have no background in Asian studies or international relations, things might be confusing at first but you'll be fine by the end. - Grade In Class:A |

Comments:1401 - Wang is not terrible, but not great, and after taking both I would recommend Shi over him. He is unorganized, unpredictable, and honestly his class stressed me out more than anything else, especially taking him my first semester of college ever...lol, bad idea. That being said, though, I did learn, not only Chinese but how to work hard. I didn't really enjoy the class though and almost considered switching out of Chinese completely. You have to take this all in consideration with the fact that I had absolutely zero experience in Chinese beforehand though, unlike literally every other person in my class...lol second bad idea of mine. So if you have more experience, he's probably not that bad, but if you're more like me, I would really recommend Shi laoshi over him :/ - Grade In Class:B+ |
