Comments:1312 - She is genuinely one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She only talks about her kids and the times I asked for help she didn't know the answer and made me look it up and "figure it out myself". Her BU books rating is low for a good reason and I think honestly it's too high for the quality of teaching you're receiving from her. However, you can find all of the exams online so if you're just looking for a good grade and are smart about it I guess you can get by.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:1312 - Dr. Schafer is a great professor! While she is a little scatterbrained, (and she understands that she is) Dr. Schafer will prepare you to be a great teacher. Also, her confusion may sometimes be confused with her flexibility and desire to give her students as much freedom as possible. She offers the best advice as she has been through a variety of teaching experiences. In terms of this class, Dr. Schafer seemed confusing before going to the schools, yet once we gained the teaching experience, everything she had taught us before made more sense. If you are ever confused, just go to her- trust me you will be glad you did. She is extremely helpful when it comes to answering questions. Just go to her office and she will not only answer your question and help you plan your lessons, but will make you feel comfortable and welcome. Honestly, Dr. Schafer is just a sweet grandma that wants to see her students succeed; therefore, will help you get your A in this course while understanding the realities of teaching. This class is for sure a weed-out class, but her workload is easy so do not worry. Take Dr.Schafer and really get to know her!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1312 - Although Dr. Schafer is a very sweet lady she should not be a professor. Her class is so unorganized. She never had a plan for class and just gave us random information about teaching. She assigned assignments but never graded them or put them in the grade book. She claimed to have put them in multiple times, but they were never there. She was very unclear on what was due and when. She told us what was on the midterm the class before. Very easy class, which is frustrating because it is an intro to teaching class and I wanted to learn something from it. I learned basically nothing. The experience of tutoring in an elementary classroom is incredible, but please take another professor. You will be more prepared and know what is going on. Dr. Schafer made me question if I even wanted to be a teacher anymore, but luckily I realized I love teaching but she is just so unhelpful.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1312 - She has to be THE MOST unorganized teacher I have ever had. There were several times when I scheduled to meet with her and she would not show up. I would text her and she would have either forgotten or "something came up" and then we'd reschedule and she'd miss again. Even though I planned to meet with her several times throughout the semester she did not once show up. There was hardly any work, but when there was work the directions were very vague. I learned to not try emailing her as she does not clean out her inbox and therefore doesn't get half of the emails sent to her. She also knocked my grade from an A to an A- because I missed class TWICE for "unexcused reasons" the first being I WASN'T EVEN IN THE CLASS YET and the second because I had BOTH A and B Flu strands and a doctor's note, but she never saw my emails and said I never contacted her, even after I gave her a note. She's a great person, but a HORRIBLE teacher.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1312 - Dr. Schafer clearly is very knowledgable about education. The way she presents information is not always the best, though, because she seems sort of scatter brained. If you contact her or go in to ask for help, she will help you a lot! If you take any of her classes, be prepared to read between the lines when she gives instructions or assignments because she doesn't usually state all of her expectations and guidelines outright.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1312 - The only thing that was good about this class was that the homework was never checked, making it a class with an easy workload. Otherwise, it was awful. Dr. Schafer is unbelievably unclear with her expectations. She never posts or really describes the homework but will emphasize that it is due. So I would spend time doing the homework only for her to never take anything up. We never got any grades back all semester and she responds to emails a month late. The second to last week of school she told us what she was expecting of us and what we should have been doing the entire semester. The only plus side is that the final presentations were easy. I would highly discourage anyone from taking Dr. Schafer for this class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:TED 1312 - For the most part everyone who has posted that she is "unorganized" is right, she is unorganized. She was however super nice. If you felt stressed by the class she encouraged you to make appointments during office hours and she would help you there. It was mainly just hectic because we were in the schools more than we were in the classroom, so there wasn't much class time to talk to her or discuss things. There were no quizzes, like they said before you have to make lesson plans for each visit to the school. After each visit she encourages you to write reflections which she gives a template for. You cover three benchmarks in this class which you write about a one page paper for if that, and you also have a midterm case study and a final case study. The case studies are somewhat long, but super easy and she gives you a sentence by sentence template in order to write them. There is also one oral presentation which you are supposed to dress up for and present the last week of class, but I didn't even dress up and I still made a 100 on it. It is a very very easy course. It is just a bit unorganized.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Teaching - SUPER EASY CLASS. It was very intimidating being thrown into an elementary school and start teaching before she had really even taught us anything, but it was so much fun. The only workload is having to make a lesson plan for each time you go to the schools, but they're really not very hard. Shaeffer is a very nice lady and willing to help, but she doesn't really ever know what's going on.So I never knew what was going on. She's inconsistent. Love this class, but if I had to do it again, I would have taken Mrs. Stanke.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1312 - DO NOT TAKE HER!!! If you can pick a different teacher. She is so scatter brained and careless. I never felt prepared for class. She basically expects you to read her mind. I had a lot of experience going into this class and I was still lost. I would hate to come into this class being the first time to teach. Her test aren't hard if you have good common sense and read and study everything posted online, which is a lot and not in any sort of order. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2220 - Schafer is an extremely smart woman. She may be a little scatterbrain or forgetful but she is more than willing to explain things more clearly. I think the downfall of most of the students in my class was that they wanted it to be a blowoff class and not have to work. She responds better if you take responsibility as a student and get extra help after class if you're having trouble with something. She is very smart and knows what she's doing if you take the time to learn from her.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1312 - For the education class, this was awful as a freshman. Unfortunatley she was trying to get her Dr. while teaching us. The class was confused about 97 percent of the time. But she is an easy grader. But I hated being instructed by her. She doesnt give back assignments or answer her emails  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:0000 - Social Issues in EDU- long boring class, but she made it fun. You have 2 papers, 1 final, and journal checks over 6 books for the semester. She is the teacher to take for this class! Also you have to teach 1 class for the semester with a friend. She let us bring food, and we stayed about 2 hrs on average instead of the 3 as the class states. Shes really nice, and pretty funny. For this class get her.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2220 - She is not easy. Get baker for 2220 or another teacher. She made her class stay an extra week at the school and a hard grader. Just make your life easier by not taking her  - Grade In Class:A
