Comments:2310 - DO NOT TAKE BARRETT. Prof. Barrett is a very kind woman, but her teaching style is all over the place. Unless you've got prior familiarity with Spanish (I'm talking 4+ yrs exp. or are a heritage speaker), you're going to struggle or need to cram for each test. By the way, there's FOUR tests, SIX written quizzes and her worksheets are hard-copy turn in ONLY. Tests are incredibly long, too. She answers e-mails quite quickly and explains concepts if you ask her for extra help, but in a teaching setting it's incredibly difficult to understand basic Spanish concepts. Overall, if you put in the effort you'll get an A, but I'd take any other professor before SPA2310.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 1412 - I took 4 years of Spanish in high school, but coming into Baylor I felt like I knew nothing in her class. She asked random questions that didn't really fit the topic, and never really taught us exactly how to do things. She would just read word for word what the online textbook says and expect you to immediately understand completely. And when she hands you a paper in class, do it. She will most likely collect it at the end for a grade and you have no idea. Don't recommend her. Quizzes were 5 pages long front and back. Way longer than I thought it would be.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:Spanish - Prof Barrett is a nice person, and as for the rants she would go off in class, they were at the very least entertaining. She has some very funny stories that she breaks into randomly too. Overall it was a fun class, and I recommend it.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:SPA 3302 - At first Dr. Barret doesn't come off great. The course itself is a little disorganized, but really just in how she sends documents/worksheets out, but if it is on the syllabus then ask because most of the time she has just forgotten. Keep every worksheet/doc that she gives you in class because in the end you will have a "cuaderno" which is part of your exam grade and this consists of all the homework/worksheets/documents. IF you do these worksheets throughout the course/weekly/daily then you will be fine, but a lot of people tend to do them the night before, which is why people find it frustrating. I crammed for the cuaderno, but I also made sure I had around 6-7 hours to focus on that. That was also my studying time for the exmas. Just know her exams are long!! They consist of a lot of writing in spanish, but they really aren't that bad as long as you understand the readings or eve sometimes pay attention in class. So, in the end, I would honestly take her again. She is really sweet and funny. So, if you do take her just make sure to stay on top of the work daily/weekly so you don't have to cram or make sure to dedication around 6-7 hours of just doing worksheets the night before so that you are prepared for her long exams. Also one more note is that people rarely finish her exams on time since they are long. I would suggest starting with most of her essay/short answer questions since those take the most time/are worth more, and then go back to work on the vocab and grammar.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1412 - The class was not hard really however the teacher was a pain. Joan was nice but she would go on political rants about how solar panels and electric cars were from government subsidies and that oil should keep going. I spoke Spanish coming into this class and I struggled with this class. Im taking Dr. Spinks next semester so hopefully he is better. I would not reccoment Dr. Barrett  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:SPA 2310 - do not take dr. barrett. i had to take her because she was the only 2310 course left when i registered. the only reason i made an A in her class is because she liked me. i strongly believe that she grades off of personal opinion. if you answer questions or volunteer in class, your grade will go up. like previous reviews have said, she gives out a ton of worksheets and never says which ones to turn in until the last minute. she expects students to learn the material before coming to class and be ready to converse. the exams were always way too long. this class also has some complex topics, so that didn't help. i don't think a single person finished an exam on time throughout this whole semester. there are also 6 short essay assignments with some being timed. the grading structure is weird because of the amount of assignments she gives out. last but not least, dr. barrett made some lowkey derogatory comments in class. this sucked, but sadly, i kept quiet so i could have a good grade. take someone else!!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - I'm going to do everyone who is taking this class after Spring 2022 a favor and let you know where it's headed. She let us know that from now on, she's going to have a new policy where every single assignment can only be handed in hard copy, and if you have to print it, you need to find a way to do it yourself. This might not sound that bad, but she hands out on average 2-3 worksheets EVERY class, and she will pick and choose which ones you turn in for a grade. She gives little to no time to finish them, so I recommend becoming best friends with whoever you sit next to. If you plan on missing a lot of classes, don't. Your grade immediately goes down because you get 0s for all those worksheets she handed out during class, and you will fall behind trying to make them all up. The tests are alright, and you can use your book or timed writes, but she kind of teaches as if you already are a native spanish speaker, and spanish 3 gets pretty hard and messy. I recommend taking someone else, but if you have to take her, just put a lot of work into it and don't miss class.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2022-05-05

Comments:2322 - You have 3 exams + a final but 4 cuadernos (HW binders) if you do it on time, it's not that bad. During class, she doesn't stay on topic so you don't really get that much done. Fortunately, she is a lenient grader but the tests are short answer/small essay at the end. She doesn't speak in Spanish a lot of the time so you don't get the opportunity to learn in an immersive environment. Objectively speaking, this class has the potential to be very good and rewarding but Dr Barrett has a somewhat mid execution of it.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2322 - DO NOT TAKE. Literally just don't do it. I had Prof. Barrett for Spanish for Christian Ministry and it was maybe my least favorite class at Baylor (and I love Jesus so that's not why). You may think that this class will help you to evangelize in Spanish, learn the Bible in Spanish, etc., but that is simply not the case. You will "learn" about things on her own agenda and obscure people groups or have to analyze these odd readings that have nothing to do with Christianity (but don't worry there's a few Bible stories thrown into the middle of the semester). You also can read below about the whole cuaderno situation, but it's worse than you think. Every person in my class was in the library until like 4 am every week that a cuaderno was due because she doesn't tell you what goes into it until like 2 days before (if you're lucky). If anything, this class did further my relationship with the Lord because of all of the prayers that I would make it through it. Please don't make the same mistake I did. Don't take this class.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:2310 - Dr Barrett is such a sweet woman. She enjoys talking to her students and is super quick at responding to emails. However, she is VERY UNORGANIZED. It might be because I took this class online, but I was always a little confused on what we were supposed to do and when things were due. She would often assign something at the end of class, and then tell us that it is due like 2 hours later.. I had another class right after hers so that was kind of impossible!!!! she would also send out a schedule for oral interviews or presentations (without giving students time slot options) and schedule you for a random time outside of your class day or time! then I'd have to email her and try to figure out another time to do it if I had another class at that time. A MESS!!!!! Her way of teaching was also confusing, she didn't explain things well or answer questions clearly. She also calls on students randomly and expects you to know the answer. I found that taking notes on the lesson and coming to class with them beforehand was the most helpful. Overall, the assignments and tests are pretty easy and it was an easy class to get an A in, so if you are looking for that then I would recommend Dr Barrett.. just get ready to be confused and send her a lot of emails haha!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 2310 - Dra. Barrett is a very sweet woman but she needs to update her teaching methods. She says she teaches students how she learned, but that method is only good for one style of learning. She passes out multiple hand-outs every class that you’re expected to complete (you literally never know when she will ask you to turn them in). I believe she thinks this information is on the syllabus, but it’s never really clear. Her exams are extremely difficult, mostly because they are VERY long and hard to complete within the 50 minute class period.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 2310 - SPA 2310 was the first Spanish course I took at Baylor, and I was super worried because I hadn't taken Spanish since my sophomore year of high school. However, Dra. Barrett did a great job of keeping the material transitional in the first two weeks, and the only thing I could tell I was still definitely rusty in was vocabulary. This class was extremely doable, and the workload was not bad at all! Yes, I did learn the majority of the information from the textbook, and the lecture was most helpful just for the ability to be immersed in a Spanish-speaking environment for about 3 hours every week. Dra. Barrett definitely isn't that professor that doesn't speak a single word of English and expects you to speak and understand perfect Spanish when you walk in; she's super sweet and made this class a joy every week :-) basically just keep up with the vocab and grammar lessons, and I'm sure you will be successful in this course!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2020-05-13

Comments:2310 - Dra. Barrett is so sweet, and wants you to learn and do well... but you will not learn Spanish during this semester unless you teach it to yourself. She doesn't teach the concepts in any way, but just jumps right in to having you use the new forms and conjugations in class on the board. She hands out approximately 5 worksheets per class period, and you'll fill in maybe 10% of each before she moves on. All the homework, quizzes, and tests are from VHL, which really is not the best method to actually *learn* the material, especially since it's so old. I've had a really wonderful experience with my previous two Spanish professors (both graduate students), but this semester was the first time I understood what people meant when they talked about how bad Baylor Spanish was. She really is a lovely woman, and tells fun stories about her grandkids during class - but I have never been so lost during a class, or felt so helpless as to how to succeed in a course.   - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1412 - Professor Barett is great! Super kind lady and very fun in class. She loves to chat with students and tell stories about herself and her family which makes the fact that its 5 days a week not the worst. The online assignments can be alot sometimes and the deadlines can sneak up on you. Other than those though, there is hardly any homework outside of class. Theres a quiz every 2 chapters and a test about every 4. All free response/fill in the blank stuff. Not terribly difficult and she is not super picky if you have a few spelling or accent errors. You will have one group oral presentation early in the semester and one individual one later. Final is an interview which is actually really easy and a written portion. My only complaint is that you will do absolutely nothing in that class for and then suddenly have like 2 quizzes, a test, and a project all in the same week. One average though a very doable workload. I highly recommend Professor Baret!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2322 - Professor Barrett is the BEST Spanish teacher at Baylor! She really cares that you learn the material and she is incredibly interesting as a person. She's hilariously sarcastic and is dedicated to Christian ministry in Mexico. She's a woman full of fire and she will tell you exactly what she thinks very bluntly, but she genuinely cares about her students. I really can't say enough positive things about Barrett. I wish I could take her for more classes or just hang out with her because she's so cool. She's also a very reasonable grader. She corrects your wrong work but doesn't take off points for every single mistake. We do 1 short presentation, 1 ~5min presentation, 3 tests, 3 cuadernos (homework folder full of the homework worksheets), and a final. Very straightforward class. Very organized. You always know what is expected out of you and the homework sheets aren't due until the day of the test. The tests are a lot of writing but it's not hard to get a good grade if you put forth effort and know the basis of the stories ***Anyone complaining about this class and the service requirement probably shouldn't have taken Spanish for Christian Ministry. Barrett makes you work, so this class isn't for the mainstream lazy Baylor Spanish student who wants a blowoff. It's work, but it's not hard and it's not unreasonable. Barrett 100% makes it worth it***  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2322 - I'll start off with saying that Dr. Barrett is very nice, understanding, and very approachable if you have questions, which is pretty rare in the Spanish department. She obviously has a passion for what she teaches and brings her real life experiences to the classroom. That being said, this specific course is still fairly new, which means that new things are always being attempted. That makes this class so disorganized it just adds another level of stress to an already difficult class. We had 3 tests (plus the final (all were mostly written)), one oral exam, 10 hours of community service, and homework every night. Often we wouldn't even get the homework, but that doesn't mean it's not due. All of the homework was due in a packet before the exam, but she wouldn't give us the rubric of what's in the packet until almost the night before. Often, she'd have things on the rubric that she never gave us in the first place, which leads to everyone doing all of the weeks of homework the night before the exam due to the disorganization. Take at your own risk  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2310 - Profesora Barret is an excellent professor for this level of Spanish. This class is kind of a transition class between 1402 and the next level, and she does a very good job at making it that way. If you are sick or miss class, she does her best to fill you in. She is overall a great teacher, and if you have her as a teacher, I'm sure you'll do great.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:SPA 1412 - Profesora Barrett is a solid choice for Spanish, but not stellar. She usually gets the point across, but she does not do anything to make understanding it any easier. She assigns way too much work, so beware of that. The class is a big time commitment.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2015-02-12

Comments:2322 - I enjoyed this class a lot. She has a lot of experience doing ministry work, and is a little bit sassy, so it keeps class interesting. It is a big workload, but most of the Spanish classes are. There are four tests, a few projects, and 10 hours of community service required. There is homework every night, but all of isn't due until the day of the test. The tests are difficult, because they are a lot of writing, but she isn't a tough grader. Overall, this class is challenging, but enjoyable, and your Spanish will be better by the end of it.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2320 - I thank God for Professora Barrett. I failed 2310 twice before finally passing and taking 2320 with Barrett, and I was terrified I would be a failure again. Honestly, I probably should've. I bombed my oral interview at the end of the semester and didn't feel great about the final - and I was toeing the pass/fail line. However, I had gone in a few times to Prof. Barrett for help and has expressed my concerns to her, and she passed me with a D. Maybe I did or didn't earn it - I don't really know. But I know that one of my 2310 profs failed me with a 59.93 (wouldn't bump it to a D) and Barrett would never do that. She genuinely cares about her students. She gives a lot of work, but what spanish prof doesn't? It's relatively simple work. A lot of reading. She conducts great class discussion and she's really funny and helpful. VERY HELPFUL. She cares about you and your grade.  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2014-09-05

Comments:SPA 2322 - Well, where do I begin in telling you about Profesora Barrett. Her teaching style is very casual and she\'s the kind of person that can get off topic very easily. She is somewhat disorganized. Once she emailed us the night before class and assigned a 5 page story and some worksheets and mentioned that we would have a quiz over said material the next day. She thinks she is the only professor you have. She takes forever to give test grades back. I actually enjoy spanish and I did enjoy the course but these things were extremely frustrating.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2011-12-15

Comments:1412 - Professor Barrett was amazing! She is so sweet & she really does want to see her students succeed. She sometimes goes off on random tangents about things that somehow relate to the chapter you are studying, but that is sort of nice especially due to the fact that this class you have to take every day, so it gives you somewhat of a break from Spanish. Also, she talks in English sometimes if she knows she is going to go over something difficult, which helps A LOT! Other than that, make sure you do the online workbook pages before the test. DO NOT wait until the day before the test to do them all, you have like 2 weeks to finish them.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2011-11-16

Comments:2322 - I loved 2322 for the content, but as a teacher she could be frustrating. She isn't very good at communicating her expectations, so you have to make sure to ask her lots of questions so you don't lose points for little things. It is a lot of work, but it's not bad if you keep up with it and don't leave it until the night of the test. She does have great stories and a passion for what she does!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2011-11-16

Comments:1412 & 2310 - I loved professor Barrett. She is so interested in the Spanish culture, which is refreshing. She cares about her students beyond the course materials. The weekly videos got a little old towards the end, but otherwise, she was wonderful. I would, and did, take her more than once.  - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2011-08-08

Comments:1412 - Professor Barret is a great teacher. She cares about every student and is very helpful when you need her. I once missed a test because my alarm didn't go off and she replaced it with my next exam. She also did her best to fit my schedule when it came to oral interviews. If you just study and watch destinos, you'll do well.  - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2011-04-17

Comments:2322 - I was expecting this class to be a lot worse than it was. There is a lot of homework and reading but its all due with the tests so you have a lot of time to work on it. The entire class period is spent going over the reading, so its fairly easy to keep up. Personally, I loved her!  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2011-03-29

Comments:1412 - 1412 is a very difficult course because it's two semesters of Spanish crammed into one. Professor Barrett moved quickly because she had to, and it was difficult to absorb all of the information thrown at us. Professor Barrett is very helpful about making up quizzes and tests if you approach her before missing class, and she is very patient and helpful in oral interviews.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2011-02-02

Comments:SPA 2320 - She is a decent teacher but if you ask her a question she WILL respond sarcastically and make you feel like an idiot. The entire class is taught in spanish but it is kind of difficult to understand her because she doesn't always speak very clearly. The homework load is average but the tests were hard. Overall average teacher.  - Grade In Class:B+

Date: 2011-01-22

Comments:2310 - She's a nice woman. There really is no homework except the 'antes de ir' paragraphs, workbook and random worksheets. The most difficult part of the class is her tests. KNOW YOUR VOCAB! You basically have to write everything out. So study WELL in advance. Other than that, she's lenient on oral exams and gives extra credit opportunities. Take her if you're prepared to work hard!  - Grade In Class:D

Date: 2010-05-08

Comments:1412 - Professor Barrett is a good fair teacher. She has a fair amount of daily work, but if you keep up with that the class shouldn't be too hard. She is personable and funny. She'll go over things if need be, but moves quickly generally. If you learn at a fast pace you'll be fine, but don't miss class because you'll miss things and she doesn't do make ups. Overall she's a really good teacher. I learned a lot.   - Grade In Class:B

Date: 2010-05-05

Comments:1412 - Profesora Barrett is a great lady! She is really nice, and always made class fun. The workload wasn't bad compared to other 1412 classes. The majority of grades came from in class activities that you did with a partner. There is a Destinos quiz every week (you have to watch 4 episodes of Destinos a week), and they aren't normally that hard. We never had quizzes, but there was a test every 3 chapters. Tests are tough, so make sure you study. We had 2 oral interviews, and she grades them super leniently. There was one project/paper that was also an easy test grade. Make sure you have a solid foundation in Spanish, as this class flies by!  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-12-23

Comments:1412 - Spanish at Baylor is known for being difficult, but workload wise, I feel like she is your best option. Compared to what my friends in other classes were doing, we did not have nearly as much assigned work. However, that leaves a lot of independent studying that you must do, especially if you're shooting for an A. Her tests are fill in the blank...not too bad, if you study and know the grammar. Don't miss class! At the end of the semester she gives you a participation grade with two points deducted for each abscence, no matter the reason. Her teaching ability is different. She doesn't hand out notes, just kind of has an unstructured disscussion of the material in class, while flipping through the book and work books. She does offer some extra credit opportunities, but is very forgetful. Sometimes she would forget to bring our tests to class to look over until almost two weeks later. Aside from her being somewhat unorganized, she is a very sweet lady. I would reccommend her for 1412.  - Grade In Class:A

Date: 2009-12-18

Comments:2310 - Professor Barret is really nice, but I felt the workload was a little much. We had to turn in journals and workbooks all on the test day. I also felt she could have been more specific on what's on the test rather than study everything.   - Grade In Class:C+

Date: 2009-12-14

Comments:2320 - Prof Barrett is a very nice lady. This is how the class works: she lectures about the stories in class and you take notes. Sometimes there are group work and you present the questions you are assigned in front of the class. All you have to do is make sure you understand the story. I usually went online and found the English translation and understood it. If she has a pop quize, its super easy. She asks questions like..."who is the main character"?...or "what happened at the end of the story"?...its pretty much to see if you read the story and did the hmk. The tests are fair(matching vocab and characters, and short essays). If you read the stories and do the hmk you will get an A. This class is all about effort. But whats great is that the precentages are split in the class. So our 4 tests were only 25% of the grade. But the hmk things that you turn in on the test day are almost worth as the tests (20%)...so you can do bad on the tests but get 100's on the hmk folder(like me)...Its not a hard class at all. If you need help, just go to her office and she is VERY nice. So far the best Spanish class I had at Baylor(too bad its my last Spanish class :)  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1412 - Spanish at Baylor is hard, especially 1412. But, Profesora Barrett is very, very good. I took two years of high school Spanish so I had a pretty good background, but I think I learned more in one semester in her class than I ever did in high school. You can tell she is genuinely concerned that her students learn the language. There are lots of exams, but they are pretty manageable. Lots of daily work and lab manual stuff which is no fun. You have to watch Destinos which is horrible and there are weekly quizzes over the episodes. So the class itself is really challenging. But all Spanish at Baylor is really tough. Prof. Barrett though is very nice and really teaches Spanish. If you want to learn Spanish this is the prof for you. But, be ready to put in the work if you want the grade.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1402,2310 - Really really nice lady. Just don't have the whole class show up and try to pretend like they didn't know the test was that day, bc that made her unhappy. But overall, she is a good teacher, nice lady, and not as much busy work as a lot of the other classes. Take her class...  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1312 - Professor Barrett is an excellent spanish teacher. The class is accelerated so expect to move at a fairly fast rate, but as long as you use professor Barrett as a resource as well as pay attention in class you should do fine. The only homework over grammar is online activities over the chapters which can be very tedious, but if done right they really help you learn the material. Every now and then she turns an easy in-class activity into a quiz which helps your grade. The only thing I really didn't enjoy about the class was watching Destinos. We were assigned to watch four episodes per week with a quiz at the end of each week which consisted of ten questions, true/false and fill in the blank. The questions weren't very specific so as long as you watch the episodes, you'll do fine. As far as tests, studying is well advised. You recieve alot of study tools with your book, I highly recommend using them to help prepare for the tests, which are mainly over grammar and are fill in the blank. Overall I recommend professor Barrett. If you have a fairly strong Spanish background you should do extremely well. If not, prepare to be challenged, but if you use all the resources given to you and actually show up to class, an A is definetely attainable.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2322 - There is a tone of work to do! But it does get easier. Stick it out through the first few weeks of LNV and the work load gets better. Also, for the exams, study the worksheets she gives you, that's about it. If you actually did the readings and the worksheets, then you'll do well. Also, she will take off for grammar and spelling on exams, but that is to be expected. For the community service credit, I highly recommend going to FBC Waco on Tuesday nights at 6 for their ESL classes. It's two hours long each (so you only need to go 5 times during the semester) and they will place you with beginners learning how to speak English. It's really a great experience.  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:2322 - Prof Barrett is really nice, but her class is really hard. We were given atleast 2 passages of scripture to analyze in Spanish every night, and it takes atleast a couple hours to complete each homework assignment. But if you do the homework, and look over it, you will do fine on the test. The class is really interesting because you get to study the Bible in Spanish. And I think every 4th semester Spanish class is pretty difficult...so...all these considered, Spanish 2322 with Barrett would be a good choice. Just be ready for the homework load.   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:SPA 1321 - Profesora Barrett is a great teacher! I'm terrible at Spanish, but this was probably the best class I have ever taken! She really made Spanish fun an interesting. However, I think the reason why it was so much better was because it was Spanish for Christan Ministry. If you're interested in this and you would rather not learn words and skills you will never use in a typical spanish class I recomment this one! First, instead of paying more than $150 for Spanish text books, you only need a $6 Spanish Bible. Her homework is reading bible stories in spanish and answering some questions. She also has you read a book by Paul Powell called the Night Commeth. She has you read it in Spanish, but the entire book is in english on Baylor's website. Overall, it was a GREAT class. She has you do 10 hours of christian community service that requires you to use spanish, so don't wait until the end of the semester!   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:SPA 1412 - 1412 is tough, no Joke, but Prof Barrett is a really good lecturer. Her tests are mainly grammar (which is my weakness) Until the last few tests, because then they seemed to shift more toward integrating vocabulary, and the last test is a 5-7 minute presentation. You have to watch 4 Destinos a week (a killer waste of time!) But the Quizes do help your grades (a little) The final has 4 parts: 50 MC Grammar questions, 5 essays (only 50 words each) A Destinos Exam, and an Oral Interview. I did well on my first three tests, but then the scores slid down... it is a super fast course, but if you have had a solid spanish background, you MAY be able to survive. My main problem is that I had taken two years off from spanish. My saving grace were the oral interviews, and the oral presentation  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1402 - nice lady, very passionate about the language, but if you didn't catch on quickly she'd leave you behind..unless you sucked up a whole lot. the tests were NOT easy, and there was a lot of quia work. destinos, of course, but you're not getting out of that if you take 1402. get a seat front and center and do lots of studying outside of class in order to pass.  - Grade In Class:C

Comments:4th semester - holy F***! do you want to die? i certainly did. the workload took hours of reading. then another few hours of answering questions from the reading. everything Fing class (TR)! then we had to turn all of our work in before the test where she'll grade super hard. then the tests were super hard. they were all free response so that she can take off points for spelling and such and grammar too. then projects. (plural). she could care less if you were taking 18 hours with a hard science major. i forgot to mention that we (the few students that were dumb enough to be there were talking to her about how impossible the test were and she goes "really? i didn't think that it was that bad." there wasn't a day that i wanted to shoot myself for taking this class. but what could i do? i had a 4.0 and accepted into medical school <--thus that shows what type of student i was BEFORE taking this class with her. i DARE you to take this class! good luck! oh, and if you don't do the hour of hours of preparation before class and she calls on you to discuss the reading: be assured that points will be taken off your participation grade. (-: med school is sooo much better now. oh, by the way, i KNOW i failed the final. it was down right impossible. i don't think that there were any a's, and i'm sure my grade was one of the highest. but she's a nice christian lady though. i admire that she does a lot of mission work in mexico. i loved her, just feared for my life in her class. by far, ochem, biochem, medical school's biochem is by far no match for this class!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1412 - shes a good teacher, tries to make class interesting, which is nice. 1412 is just a hard class, no matter who you have. Her workload is absolutly CRAZY!!! You have to do Quia online, wich takes like 4 to 5 hours of work. The class moves really fast, i like that you have 6 tests, because they're really hard. She really makes sure you have your stuff memorized. Shes not horrible, but i think the class just sucked.   - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1402 - Really nice lady, but her test are ridiculously hard . . . dont worry they only count for 20% of your final grade, final is made up of four parts and realitively easy to pass. DO YOUR DESTINOS WORKBOOK FOR EXTRA CREDIT . . . and dont miss more than 2 or 3 classes!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1412 - The fact is that spanish at Baylor sucks, every teacher is going to be tough. Barrett is nice and knows what she is doing. The class moves extremely fast and I would've been lost had I not taken a lot of Spanish in high school. The workload is ridiculous, you have to do this online stuff that takes about 8 hours before every test and it's just a pain. She is pretty strict on her grading too, as in she won't give you extra time if something comes up. Not great, but not bad either.  - Grade In Class:C+

Comments:Spanish 1412 - I REALLY like Profesora Barrett. She's a very strong Christian, and she's really easy to get along with. 1412 isn't the best class to take (personally, I think it's too much crammed into one semester), but she does her best. Destinos aren't fun, but you have to do them anyway, and w/1412, you get it over in one semester. Quia work for every test, but it helps you review...my only problems with her were that she was somewhat unorganized and forgot things every now and then. She's really fun, though, and I enjoyed taking this class. Can't wait to take her 4th semester class, Spanish for Christian Ministries...  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - Best Spanish teacher yet and I'm re-taking her in the fall. BUT, the workload is RIDICULOUS. Great teacher....GREAT teacher (for the spanish department anyways). Killer workload.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:2310 - very sweet lady. best spanish prof i have had here so far but that's not saying much. she is very approachable and knows her stuff. tests arent that bad if you just study a little and have an idea of what's going on. the only thing i hated about this class where the journals for each chapter. but they are TONS better than destinos!! thank goodness we didnt have those again! overall...i thought she was a decent prof.  - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2310 - I thought this class was not that good. I think part of the reason is because the book is not as helpful, so it makes learning the material confusing. In class she doesnt really explain a whole lot. I thought she went fast, but essentially this class is like the 1403 class except extended. Also i never really knew when the homework was due whenever she didnt come to class. Other than that she's nice and pretty fun in class.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1402 - As far as spanish goes, I think Barrett was really good. The class atmosphere was conducive to learning because it was laid back. Not so much explanation as activites, which has ups and downs. Work load is like most spanish classes at baylor: destinos, workbook, lab. it's a lot no matter who's teaching. I would say the class wasn't too hard, but I learned a lot.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:SPA 1403 - We did several presentations/speeches. Most of class time was spent working in groups or with partners on classwork; I felt like she didn't lecture enough for me to understand the material at times. Watch the destinos and do the labs--they'll really help with the tests. The final wasn't bad, but the other tests were hard (short answer/essay). More grammar than vocab. We did have two orals, but she was a pretty easy grader on those. Some extra credit options. The worst thing about the class is that it's extremely fast-paced; don't take 1403 unless you have a GOOD high school background in Spanish.  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:1403 - Very enjoyable professor! although i hate spanish, she made it bearable. of course the wourkload is huge and you do have to study pretty hard for tests as with most foriegn language profs, but if you keep up with the destinos and workbook you'll be okay. Destinos did get really annoying. i stopped watching them after the 25th episode and just read summaries from the UT website and did okay with them. ;) makes herself available to students. reccommended prof!!!  - Grade In Class:B

Comments:1403 - She's a good teacher and a good person, but her workload is horrendous. Also, she wouldn't accept late work even if your mother died. Really.   - Grade In Class:B+

Comments:2322 - She is a great professor and a super Christian. However, get ready...she lives to the standards of the Foreign Language department. There is constant outside class work and her tests are not easy. But, I recomend her if you are taking spanish as a language credit.   - Grade In Class:C

Comments:1403 - Very nice lady, good teacher. Goes very fast, and assigns a lot of outside work, but she makes class fun, interesting, and laid-back!! Tests and not that bad if you've gone over the vocab and know the grammar pretty well. Tests dont cover all that much info, so they're not bad to study for!! Take her class!!  - Grade In Class:A

Comments:She is very nice, but tough. Her class isn't that easy. You really have to study for her tests...she means business. But, overall, I enjoyed the class. However, Destinos and the workbook have gotta go. I really hated that workbook and Destinos...I wanted to shoot myself in the foot every time I had to go watch those silly soap operas!

Comments:SPA 2310 Easy class if you understood material from previous Spanish classes. Assignments prepare you for the tests. Review notes/book before test, and you should be alright.

Comments:I really liked her, shes fun and makes the class enjoyable. You must keep up with the workbook though or you'll be cramming to get it all done before the test and you wont get any time to study. Just as long as you show effort and actually do your work, youre ok. Nos Vemos!!

Comments:Fun prof, have to do tons of workbook pages everynight, tests are pretty hard but there's lots of extra credit. If you work, she'll help you out.

Comments:Excellent teacher the only bad thing is that you will work really hard on outside work. The 1403 class moves very quickly but she gives you a lot of extra credit opportunities.

Comments:Very good teacher. You will have some work to do outside of class which you will turn in the day of the test. As long as you do all your work, it will be okay because the work automatically prepares you for the test.
